The Prospector VII hurtles through Hyperspace, still a few hours from reaching Bespin, the enormous gas giant, and it's primary mining colony, Cloud City. Her crew tries to find ways to occupy themselves during the journey, but for the most part, there's simply a lot of waiting.

Their thoughts inevitably all find their way to the job, and what kind of dreams they have for spending their money. For some it's buying a new ship, for others it's paying off their debts, and for others still it's securing freedom for another.

These day dreams become inevitable on long trips, especially for the type who live on the edge of the known galaxy, and feel that they're one good score away from having their lives changed for the better, never to look back.

Even for (or perhaps especially for) an experienced pilot like Amon, it's hard to deal with the long waits. After checking and rechecking the systems a dozen times, there's still hours left. The desire to grab the controls and jerk the ship into a series of complex maneuvers is strong, but Amon manages to resist. With a grin, he thinks back to a previous time when he didn't have to.

One year previously

Chapter 1: No Easy Jobs

Klaxons blare overhead from the tripped security system. Zagulo mostly looks stunned that he could possibly have missed such a safeguard, but before anyone can reprimand him, the clang of boots on metal grates sounds from the floor above. The Black Sun agents would be on you soon.

With no time to waste, you grab the stolen data and burst out of the first exit you see, finding yourselves on a roof landing pad. A few airspeeders lie directly in front of you, and beyond them? A quick drop at the edge of the skyscraper, several lanes of air traffic, and the bright lights of thousands of other skyscrapers around you, reaching out as far as the eye can see, and only then stopping because of the thickness of the smog that fills the atmosphere: Coruscant.

You all pause for a second to wonder what in the universe you were thinking, pulling a job on not only a core planet, but the core planet. The center of the Galaxy, the throne of the Empire, the single largest city that may have ever existed.

Coruscant's official population has surpassed one trillion, not to mention the countless criminals in the city's underbelly. Where the planet once had oceans, once had native life, now there is only the capital city, covering every square meter of the planet's surface, and beyond: Reaching far into the clouds where you are now, and deep underground where you'd hope to never go.

A blaster bolt whizzes past your heads, and you're brought back to the moment. Whatever bad decisions had brought you here, this is where you are now, far from your rendezvous point, on one of a dozen rooftops of a Black Sun facility, with the data you were hired to collect, and guards bearing down on you. Only one decision remains: Will you run, or will you fight?

"What in the world were you thinking?"

Yeah. Being on the rooftop of the galaxy with blasters flying over your head makes you think those kind of things. What were you thinking, Hou Wong? Stealing from a mafia organisation to pay another?

Only that Hou Wong discovered all too late that they weren't two different mafias, but the very same. Once more, him not paying attention to details might have him screwed. And now, there he is: screwed.

"Come on, come on, I'm not screwed! I just need to get the hell outta here, and fast."

He breathes slowly and deeply for a pair of seconds, not only to calm himself but to give his comrades some time to decide their actions. "A nice trick Li Qian showed me. It seems all the dirty things in my live I have learned or inherited them from him...".

There was almost a manic grin on the "troubleshooter" and owner of the Prospecter known as Tibs. Young, eager, and overconfident, his heart hammered in his chest as the klaxons rang all around them. The job was going well, so absolutely well, before that quiet curse escaped Zagulo and the alarms began to ring out all around them. Even still, Tibs couldn't help but smile like the Devil as he looked back at the exit they ran out of.

"Jeez, we are not getting paid enough for this." He murmured softly, looking back at the others that were with him. It was supposed to be a cakewalk, a quick smash and grab here on Coruscant before they returned to familiar frontiers of the Rim. Drawing out his blaster pistol, he scanned the scene around him before nodding to Zagulo.

"Hey, unless you think you'll trip their alarms, check the air speeders and see if we can get out of here on them. We don't want to be here in the next minute or so." There was little else around but Tibs looked quickly, trying to find someplace to get behind or in case the air speeders weren't the ticket out of this rock and a hard place.

Difficulty for Tibs: 1d8 ⇒ 6 That'll knock out one of those Advantages, but that's alright.

Tibs:
You notice that there's one airspeeder in particular that looks ready to go and could fit all of you. The model is one that's controlled by a droid, so it should be ready to zip away as soon as it's given a destination.

You aren't sure about the alarms on the speeders, though there are enough alarms going off as it is that you're also not sure if they'd even be noticed. From the door you came through, you can hear what sounds like four guards on the other side, getting ready for an assault.

Male

Zagulo has the most nonplussed look on his face at the blaring alarm. He'd sliced through 4 layers of security to get to the data they needed, broken every safeguard they had, and yet, somehow, he'd missed one. Well, no crying over spilled blue milk. Once the data finished copying, he grabbed his datapad and shouted, "Let's run."

The group bursts from the building onto the speeder pad, with nothing but the speeders and a drop. Take a job in the Core Worlds, they said. You'll be able to pay off your debts, they said. Coruscant's a great place. It's not like you're breaking into Black Sun's headquarters. Zagulo flinches as blaster bolts fly overhead.

"I'll deal with the security software. Amon, help me figure out which one to investigate."

I'll slice the security software on whichever speeder Amon chooses. If there is no security software and we decide not to use the speeder Amon chooses, I'll merely use my roll to wreck that speeder's piloting software and render it inoperable.

Tibs will point to the speeder with the built-in droid, nodding towards it and shouting over the alarms.

Amon stood and sped up as fast as he could, peg-legging on the walking cane. When Tibs pointed to one of the speeders, the pilot shook his head in agreement towards both him and Zagulo.

I have a bad feeling about this! - he let escape, before engaging to assume the controls on the vehicle - Let's get out of this rock already.

He made the movement, moving his body with agility and adjusting his walking stick on his back magnet.

Muhax Tos was waiting patiently outside, leaning against the target building. Eyeing over her datapad, she crossed her leg. Shaking her head, she checked the time on her device, and in a minute, checked it again. Clearing her throat, she checked her stocks and startlingly hit the sell button when the alarm went off. Jumping up, she nearly drop her data pad, fumbling with it in the air.

The others busted out of the door that she was standing nearby, and she tucked the device into her cargo pants, "What happened? What is that alarm?" The payout for this job was just too great to pass up. And what with their very talented slicer..

Muhax Tos followed behind the others, towards the speeders. Swinging her leg over the vehicle, she lifted her lips in a snarl, "This metal beast and I, we meet again." She looked over the different controls, taking too long and completely lost with all the bright colors glaring at her, teasing her.

Then Tibs pointed to the droid-speeder combo and she left her speeder for that one, telling the droid, "Drive! Just drive! We need to contact our shipmates, tell them we must prepare to retreat!"

At Tibs' direction she sprinted towards the speeder he indicated, vaulting over its edge into one of the front seats. I can't decide who made the better first reference: Zagulo with "No use crying over spilled blue milk", or Amon's "I have a bad feeling about this".

GM Rolls:

Difficulty for Zagulo: 3d8 ⇒ (6, 6, 3) = 15 Z Threat, 2 Failure. Zagulo still ends up with 3 Success.

Zagulo and Tibs jump into the droid-controlled speeder, with Zagulo hacking into its circuits and Tibs yanking out the auxiliary controls. While the onboard system may have taken them where they wanted to go, they were in too deep to starting trusting automated systems now.

Hou Wong jumps in behind them, rooting around in the speeder for anything of value, and finds a wallet, containing a cred-chip and an ID for a Black Sun officer.

Tibs moves out of the way, letting Amon take the wheel as the older man walks over with his cane. As Muhax jumps off the swoop bike she'd been contemplating to shout at the speeder-droid, it lets out a few beeps and attempts to take off, finding the controls have been taken from him.

"Good evening" The droid begins mechanically. "This speeder appears to be malfunctioning. Please exit calmly and choose another vehicle. We apologise for the inconvenience."

Ignoring it, Amon punches the controls manually, firing up the engines, to the droid's confusion.

While the others are getting the speeder ready, Aralli sets to work disabling the others, taking two of them out of commission. Unfortunately, she doesn't have the time to hide the efforts, and it'll be pretty obvious that something is wrong with them. With the one being stolen and two disabled, there are only a smaller airspeeder and the swoop bike left on the pad.

As the four guards burst out onto the platform, blasters firing, Amon lifts the speeder up and bursts into the bright lights of traffic. Unfortunately, the Black Sun agents are not that easy to lose, and within seconds, two of them have piled into the remaining airspeeder and are in hot pursuit.

"We appear to be under attack." The droid drones. "Please remain calm while I alert th-" Before it can finish, a blaster bolt flashes through the top of his head, frying the circuits and leaving a hole through his face.

Okay, chase time. I need Average (2d8 Difficulty) checks from Amon to fly. Average (2d8 Difficulty) Perception checks for anyone who wants to find any kind of escape route. Right now you're flying in traffic so you'll all take a Setback Die (1d6) for traffic and distraction. Anyone who wants to fire back at the pursuers will roll Hard (3d8), with the understanding that stray bolts can hit civilian vehicles.

The speeder finally takes off, escaping from the Black Sun security that begins to fire down upon them. Cursing under his breath, Tibs still can't shake that grin off of his face as he looks back. They weave through traffic, as Tibs looks back at Zagulo.

"What happened back there! I thought you said you had it!" He draws his blaster pistol out, narrowing his eyes for a moment as he spends a moment aiming at their pursuing craft. There is a fire from the blaster pistol as the shot rings out, hoping to connect.

Taking a maneuver to aim first for a boost die, then taking a shot.

Tibs manages to land a successful shot on the pursuing speeder, causing it to fall back slightly and change its tactics, trying to keep civilians between the two of you. Unfortunately for the Black Sun operatives, this loses them precious seconds when Muhax and Zagulo both point to a small side street and Amon swings the speeder down it.

By the time that the Black Sun operatives cut over and take the turn, the stolen speeder seems to have vanished. They continue down the street, not even pausing for a moment as they pass overhead. With the hiss of machinery and darkness of the alley, their presence is not detected in the slightest.

No sooner has the crew begun to catch their breaths than Muhax's commlink starts beeping, with a call from their contact with the Pyke family."Boy, you sure know how to make an exit. Hou Wong gives reiterative looks backwards, trying to discern whether they have been found again.

-Guys- he says to no one in particular -shall we try to go unnoticed? We might want not to be too obvious. Who knows who's watching us...

Muhax couldn't help but smile, "For that, I am glad. Thank you, Tibs." Walking around the vehicle for a bit, she looks up at their doctor, "We have what we rushed for. If this Chopper hasn't been found yet, he likely won't be found before we arrive. I think we should take the slowest path. We are the prey in this, we must hide and move quietly less the hunter find us."

Muhax is all for going the round-a-bout way.

Amon started preparing to pilot towards the given address, for times looking at the keyboard, slowly, as if searching for the buttons. Finally, he turned around to Muhax and Hou.

I agree. We should probably lay low and navigate the shadows. I'll trace a stealthy route, if no one objects... Zagulo, would you help me here? - he completed looking at his usual co-pilot.

How do I aid another in this system?

Storyweaver 10

Aiding another is a great way to use Advantage. In this circumstance, you could use Computers if you wanted to use the onboard navigation system, or Streetwise if you thought you had a good idea of the route. (Easy Computers - 1d8 Difficulty - or Average Streetwise - 2d8 Difficulty).

Essentially you're giving Amon directions by way of the computer system, so your Advantages on that roll would boost his piloting. So you could say, you know, oh, I'm going to spend my 1 Advantage to give him a Boost Die because I helped him find a better route. Does that make sense?

And Amon, for piloting Stealthy I'll need an Easy Piloting check (1d8) and a Hard Stealth check (3d8)

Male Undine (Mostly Human) Spiritualist (Drowned Channeler) 7

Rolls:

Piloting (Planetary) - Easy: 1d12 + 3d8 - 1d8 ⇒ (4) + (1, 5, 8) - (2) = 16
2 Successes + 3 Advantages - 1 Failure

Stealth - Hard: 4d8 - 3d8 ⇒ (3, 7, 5, 4) - (6, 4, 7) = 2
4 Successes + 2 Advantages - 4 Threat

Male

Rolls:

Computers: 2d12 + 2d8 - 1d8 ⇒ (10, 1) + (7, 2) - (6) = 14

Net 2 Advantage, 2 Success. Can I spend the 2 Advantage to help negate Threat from Amon's rolls?

Storyweaver 10

Yep!

The ride to Chopper's goes somewhat slowly but miraculously uneventfully, with Zagulo using the computers system to give Amon directions that circumvent busy areas of the city. As you park and enter the establishment, you see several groups of Ugnaughts, hard at work. Sparks fly from various spots throughout the large and cluttered repair shop. Everywhere you look are half-built droids, strange contraptions, and parts piled to the ceiling. The Ugnaughts ignore you, focused on welding parts on a disassembled airspeeder.

From being one of the piles of junk, a voice booms out. "My friends! It is so good to see you again!" A large, green-mottled Besalisk emerges, his four arms wrapping around Tibs first, and then Zagulo, in an enormous bear hug. To the others he smiles broadly, "Welcome!" As he scans them, his eyes fall on Zagulo's datapad, and his smile falters slightly. "Please, join me in my office." He leads the group towards a small room in the back, just as filled with mechanical parts as the rest of the shop. He brushes some equipment off one of the chairs where it clatters to the floor. Gesturing to the datapad again, he speaks more quietly. "How did you obtain this?"

Amon peg legged across the room, holding to his cane and almost tripping a number of times. Finally, he entered Chopper's office and let himself go against a wall, scratching his unshaved face while making an effort to focus on conversation - as much as he didn't have much to add, exactly. He wondered what kind of business Tibs and Zagulo had with the besalisk on the past, but then quickly chuckled and decided to forget about it.

Male

"In the usual way. I assume you were told to expect us?"

Storyweaver 10

"Of course." Chopper says with a smile, before his look turns to mock disappointment and surprise. "But what is this? No juicy details?" He turns to Tibs. "Surely I can at least get you to boast, my friend."

-We will boast when we're rich and outta here. Meanwhile, we're just dead meat.

Muhax rode through the city, comfortably. Once she arrived at the shop, she followed the fellow into his office after having a gander at the vehicles being worked on. Turning her attention to him,"We stalked and watched the hunters move around in there camp until they hungered. Then we took what was theirs when their camp was empty. It's a common hunting trick, but they returned sooner than we liked when their beasts started to yell wildly. "

"Chopper! My friend! It has been so long since I last saw you!" Tibs is dwarfed by the large Besalisk but they embrace like old friends. He pats the man on the back, looking him over with a grin. "Things must be going well, you've gotten fatter!" The teasing grin is evident upon the human's face as Chopper introduces himself to the others within the group. Business had to come first before pleasantries though. Settling into the back office, Tibs settles down onto the chair but swings it about just a little bit to put his back to a wall and to keep an eye on any other entrance in. An old trick his father taught him when he was quite young, make sure you can never be taken by surprise if you can help it.

The others seemed focus on getting their enrichment but Tibs grinned widely, brushing his chest with his knuckles. "It was smooth sailing through it all. We broke into the building without a sound. There was one guard but a quick arm around the throat and a few seconds and he was happily sleeping away. We got to the terminal we needed but it looked like their security had been...updated...more than we expected. Alarms went ringing, shouts came from everywhere, and we escaped in one of their speeders and raced through Coruscant's traffic! I thought we'd be rip to pieces in the traffic but Amon's driving here pulled us through and we did the ol' "Drop Dead & Quiet" on our pursuers. They speeded along and we made our way nice and quiet-like to your lovely office. Which, by the way, I have to say looks very nice comparatively to your old one, far more spacious and organized." Which is saying something, compared to the landscape of equipment and mechanical parts that laid all around them.

"Do forgive my comrades, being shot at by blasters ruins the mood. You do know where we are to take this chip and where our nice sum of chips is awaiting us, yes? Tibs asks with that charming smile upon his face, nodding. "Help us out and we may have a speeder that you can disassemble on the cheap side, going real fast and real hot. The droid part is a bit busted...missing most of its upper half..."

Storyweaver 10

Chopper looks enthralled with Tibs's telling of the story, his wide eyes following along with each complication, and finally claps his large hands several times when it's finished. "Marvelous." He says, with a satisfied smile, looking not unlike a junkie who has just gotten a fix.

"Ah yes," He replies to Tibs, with a large grin. "Coruscant has been good to me. There is always... interesting work to be done." He laughs. "You should have seen first workshop here. Little more than locker. Couldn't even fit entire speeder inside."

Pausing for a second to look at the others, he finally nods, and moves some more piles of junk, efficiently lifting with all of his hands, to reveal a computer on his desk. He holds out one of his large hands towards Zagulo. "Now. For my part in this story." Taking the datapad, he plugs it into his computer, and speaks to the others as he presses several keys at once, without removing his eyes from the screen. "I am to help with file decryption."

"This Bounty Hunter used an alias, betrayed the Pike family, stole from them. Always a risky idea to steal from those more powerful. We will find out his name." He glances back, the file starting to decrypt on the screen. "The Pike family appreciates your help this far. They would like for you to take care of this problem."

"Now. You have questions?"
