Will 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25
There is something... curiously exciting about that mold over there.
Nicholae Szabo |
Something isn't right - for an instant, I had the desire to eat some of that horrid looking fungus. We should burn it.
Lleidr |
Lleidr will pause from getting ready to touch the mold to see what's exciting about it. Fighting the urge to give into curiosity, he will instead look around for something Fine or smaller to Spark and get a fire going.
Selia D`Averam |
Knowledge, Religion: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (2) + 9 = 11 Really?
"I fear if we don't destroy this, it will harm someone else, but who should ever be here anyway?"
Selia gathers all of the things together to take away, and uses Spellcraft and Detect Magic to try to determine the properties of any magical items.
Also, she looks through the drawings and painting, and takes those too.
Finally, she looks at the letter.
Nicholae Szabo |
I'm planning on burning the house to the ground anyway so it shouldn't be an issue.

Foxglove Manor Caverns
The charcoal drawings likely have no intrinsic value, and even if they did, you'd likely be reluctant to have them in others hands. They consist of several dozen pages of erotica, with a single subject: Selia.
The portrait leaning against the table has been recently repainted with blood and bits of runny rotten flesh into a caricature of Selia. Without being restored, it's impossible to say who the original subject was. If restored, the painting is likely valuable.
The fungus patch glows with necromantic power, as does the shattered box on the ground.
The letter on the table is for a specific address in Magnimar. The contents may shed some light on the recent murders in town.
Magical Items:
Leather armor +1
War razor +1
Ring of Jumping
Ring of Protection +1
Ned also finds a mold encrusted chime of opening (5 charges), discarded long ago near where the blackened mold has been charred away.
A note about the pair of keys: A small silver key ring sits on the table amid the rotten meat, with two keys on the ring. The larger of these two is a tarnished iron key set with a round opal. The smaller key is made of bronze and has an unusually long tang ending in a set of three notched blades. The head of this key resembles a roaring lion.
Selia D`Averam |
Selia tosses the drawings into the fire, but holds on to the letter.
"Anyone know what these keys go to? Were there locked doors in the mansion above?"
Selia takes a final look around, gathers the stuff, and heads out.
Perception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 1 = 10
Nicholae Szabo |
If the mold is necromantic then this may work...
Nicolae channels energy to hurt undead.
3d6 ⇒ (3, 6, 2) = 11
Lleidr |
Seriously lacking in any kind of Knowledge: Religion, Lleidr will question whether the fungus surviving might indicate that the haunts or whatever we were experiencing up in the manor might also continue?
Lleidr |
True. So, can either of you holy folks pull of the required spells to get rid of the fungus? Is there anything else down here we want to check out, or are we ready to head back upstairs?
Lleidr |
OK, so back upstairs and outside at least? Do you want to bed down in the barn and take care of this unholy growth when you've rested, or should we head back to town?
Nicholae Szabo |
Lets get the civilians back to town and make sure they are ok... we can rest and return on the morrow to explore what these keys open and the rest of the house once we are fully rested. I need to memorise consecration as a spell and kill the mold. Then we burn the house to the ground!
Selia D`Averam |
"Yes, I am good with that plan. I am interested to explore the rest of the house, now that the evil spirit is laid to rest, but I could use a bath and a good night's sleep."
And maybe some supplies or equipment
ziltmilt |
Sounds like you're in agreement that you'll trudge back to Sandpoint tonight, then return the next day.
The return journey is fairly uneventful, although Horran and Lettie Guffmin are horrified to hear that you entered the Misgivings and have returned unaltered.
"That house is cursed, and has been since before my gaffer was born. Mark my words, you'll wish you'd never set foot in that place", he warns with a stern shake of his finger.
When word spreads in town that you've come back 'home' to the Rusty Dragon, Sheriff Hemlock rushes to meet with you. He's amazed by your tale, but is relieved upon hearing that the murderer has been found and defeated.
"The way I hear it, that house was made corrupt decades ago, in the days of old Vorel Foxglove, Aldern's great-great uncle. I must admit, I'm concerned about that letter Aldern had. Addressed to someplace in Magnimar, you say? To think that evil that far away would strike us here ..." He stares outside, chewing his lip.
A gentle rain patters the Dragon's glass windows.
Hemlock smiles at you. "When can you leave for Magnimar?"
Selia D`Averam |
"Well, I think we want to go back and check for more clues in the morning, but after that, I might be ready for the trip."
Can we trade in loot and buy some potions, wands and scrolls? I need to find some ways to be more useful in combat...
Nicholae Szabo |
I'll be brutally honest - I lost track of loot about a month or so ago. I am like Ned - I'm not sure what we have. I just know that I had to borrow a bit of money off Ned to get my full plate... and thats when I lost track of things.
Lleidr |
I'll admit, beyond the posts on the Discussion tab, I haven't been keeping strict track of treasure myself. Scanning back over those posts, though, I found two big sections about treasure division. We should each have around 1535.5 gp, minus whatever you might have spent individually. Check Discussion posts around 01/19/2015 and 05/08/2015 for what was claimed and what was sold.
Additionally, there's still that giant gold helmet in the bottom of Thistledown that we never recovered; it was valued at 3000 gp...

leather armor +1: 1000 gp
war razor +1: 2000 gpring of jumping: 2500 gp
ring of protection +1: 2000 gp (although this should probably be equipped by someone)
chime of opening (5 charges): 1500 gp
So, 9000 gp total including the ring of protection, 7000 without it = 2250 gp each including the ring, 1750 without it
If no one else is interested in the ring of protection, Lleidr would like to put in a bid.
Selia D`Averam |
Selia already has a ring of protection on, so I say wear it with pride, Leidr.
In that case, I will assume 1750 gold added to her 394 = 2144.
She would also like to sell her chain shirt for 50gp & buckler for 2.5 (50%, right?) since she is now also an arcane spell caster. Total = 2196.5.
So, she really needs a wand of mage armor for 750. Found < 76: 1d100 ⇒ 27
Then a wand of magic missile would be handy for 750. Found < 76: 1d100 ⇒ 1
Some scrolls for those odd needs:
Shield (25)Found < 76: 1d100 ⇒ 92 (guess not)
Endure Elements (25)Found < 76: 1d100 ⇒ 68
Comprehend Languages (25)Found < 76: 1d100 ⇒ 39
Protection from Evil (25)Found < 76: 1d100 ⇒ 41
Detect Evil x 2 (12.5x2 = 25)Found < 76: 1d100 ⇒ 63
Should leave her with 596 gold for another day.

Nicholae casts consecrate on the Mold.
Then burns what is left. Is it dead?
Then lets explore.
ziltmilt |
After casting Consecrate, the fungus animates and tears itself free from the wall, retaining a roughly humanoid shape. It howls in a sloshy, almost human voice, then crumbles to dust.
It is as if a pall has visibly lifted from this place. While still retaining a decayed, decrepit appearance, the whole area has lost its prior feel of menace.
NOTE - the manor is no longer haunted. You can explore room by room, but it's pretty boring exploring a place that poses no threat at all. What do you think of me uploading the full maps with descriptions, and I'll reveal any treasures you may have found.
