Sorry guys... struggling to get back but making steps.
Its been crippling. I've been unable to function properly for 2 weeks or so now. Just getting up is a struggle, and when I do get up? I act like all is well, fake it for a few hours and then head back to bed... where I find myself for the next 16 hrs.
I'm not gone and I hope you'll bear with me.

Apropos to nothing really, I was reading back over stuff to update Lleidr and realized that Zilt had linked an image of Parthen and that I could have done the same with Lleidr years ago. So, finally, instead of that weird little primate I chose for his avatar, here is what I've always pictured Lleidr looking like: Lleidr. Bonus images are of Arg and Madfall.

Looks good - better than the monkey man you currently use.
Also, welcome to Parthen

Checking it out now... Tell me what attracts you to this system and why.
Edit: This reads as a straight take of Basic/Expert rules... without making races themselves a class unto themselves. An interesting take.
I recommend the Rules Cyclopedia - an excellent document that is BECMI friendly but offers extensive optional rules. If I ever run a BECMI style game again? I'd use the class system in the Basic Fantasy ruleset but the Rules Cyclopedia.
I liked the look of Castles and Crusades as well.
Heres an interesting website to look into for re-do's of the old BECMI system

So, there'a couple of reasons why I like this system:
1) I'm old. Really ancient, and I cut my RPG teeth on Mentzer Basic. So, yes, as you may have guessed, I also like the Rules Cyclopedia, but that came out about 8 years or so after my initial exposure to the hobby. So, nostalgia is one factor. But, while BFRPG revels in its inspiration, it also updates it with more modern fixes like ascending AC, etc.
2) While I admire the mechanical depth of games like Pathfinder, I'm finding I have less and less patience for them. Time for prepping, especially for a live game, is hard to come by, and it's easier to make stuff for BFRPG than this.
Having said all that, I'm not impressed with the published adventures for BFRPG. I still like my old collection of B and X modules better (and the CM ones too!).
Lleidr |
Hold on a sec. You're old?? Translucent logic or whatever would suggest that makes me....you know what? Screw you :)
That said, do you have X1? I love that module!

My fav was X2, Castle Amber (and still have it), followed by X3, Curse of Xanathon... which I tried running here on the forums as a 5e game before I had my mini breakdown.
Helaman |
X3 has the dumbest villains of all time but for the 80's it was good intrigue. I've run them as a little more intelligent but ultimately easy enough for most players to outwit them.
Castle Amber? Rocks. However I've enhanced it somewhat adding a second story (it is after all a big ass mansion) and spread out some of the encounters as a result making it less of a kick down door... Oh, a monster (or crazy Amberville).
Lleidr |
Hey, all - so this weekend starts a long celebration of birthdays (mine, my partner's, one of my bestest buddies, and of course 'Merica's). I'll be around on and off for the next few days, but nothing reliable since I'll be hammered the whole time. If necessary, bot me, and please drink something alcoholic and explode something (safely) in honor of my latest trip 'round the sun!
Lleidr |
Despite the fact that Zilt took off as soon as I return, don't be confused into thinking that he's my secret identity or anything.
Also, best wishes, Zilt, hope everything's as good as can be.

Happy Gary Gygax Day, everybodies! 30 Ways to Celebrate Gary Gygax Day
Lleidr |
To celebrate #NationalTellAJokeDay in game style...
What did the judge say to the halfling rogue?
Why don't halflings plan for the future?
and edited for relevance...
Lleidr walks into a bar and orders 10 pints of ale. After he's finished those, he orders 9. Some time later he order 8. Later 7 more, then 6, then 5, then 4.
By the time he orders just 3 pints, one of the other patrons steps up to him and asks, "Why do you order your drinks like this?"
Lleidr answers, "Simple logic, my good man: obviously, the less I drink, the drunker I get!"

An explanation - Sorry for my erratic posting. I'm coming out of a depressive episode (after going off my meds for a while - NEVER do this folks) and its f&!*ed with my life in the last few days.
