Euphemia 'Femi' Ferka |
Femi’s blood is up and his excitement obvious, yet his question is a hesitating one, ”So you’re the Silver Ravens… you’re it?” he says in disbelief.
He shakes his head, I had hoped to be a lieutenant someday perhaps, but this is more… fundamental. They are truly lost if they are asking me - us - for this aid. He looks to his recent companions and wonders. Can they even be trusted? Can this guy?
“Silver and gold are the same with eyes closed.” he mumbles and looks up.
”Oh, Sorry. I just mean I feel as if my eyes are closed. I can see nothing, no plan, no way forward. You ask us to commit to a cause - the aid of Kintargo, presumably against the house of Thrune.” he grimaces despite himself.
”These are dangerous things to be spoken aloud, let alone pursued with any passion. Yet my research into the Silver Ravens has led me to you, and I trust my research. So I believe you are a Silver Raven.” he looks away and ponders, but only for a moment.
”That shall have to be enough for me. I shall trust you, and I shall put my efforts into freeing this citizenry from the yoke of the oppressor! Long live the Silver Ravens! Down with Thrune!”
He looks to his newfound companions, hoping his neck is not so far out that they rise up and chop it off. Some part of the back of his mind prepares a defensive spell…

Kalem binds and robs the dying man,
well when you put it like that... Now I feel like a s+$+. Now I need to figure out if this is player feeling or character feeling
Kalem Riker |
In retrospect, Kalem isn't the type to just rob a dying guy for his own personal gain. So...
Kalem takes out what he has taken from the dying man and tosses them over to the man they saved.
"Should cover the damages they inflicted." he says. "Fair is fair."
All his life, Kalem has followed a personal system of justice. One that followed rules, but demanded that repentance must be enacted if possible. Even as one man laid dying in the street, his possessions would go to paying back the damage he had caused.
And speaking of damaged caused...
Kalem looks towards Rexus.
"I know nothing of leading rebellion, but even a guy like me who only knows how to swing his fists knows that this city won't survive if the situation continues."
Brask Ulbreaker |
"I'm in." Brask says simply. "There was a reason I ran into Femi and Kalem, and I'm sticking around to find out what it is."
Mykhail |
Hearing about the man's losses Mykhail truly feels for him. "I am sorry for your loss, I know the pain of loosing family to the corrupt of the city. I have been looking for a way to make a change and I believe that this is the path that I was meant to take, at least that is what my mother would have told me. I never bought into the religious humbo jumbo. I am willing to stand beside these men as allies to aid Kintargo."
Eliastraza Malifinion |
Elias frowns at the group. Scowls, really.
"I am not convinced this city can be saved. It sat and watched as it's gods and goddesses were cast out by the Asmodeans and the Abadarans, or choked by their rule. There will be a price for that. A blood price.
A heavy one."
Elias sighs and shakes his head, "But who are we if not the ones to arrange the payment of it? Fine. I'm in."
GM Xynen |
Rexus looks at the five of you with something of a surprised smile on his face. "I must admit, despite your actions at the protest I'd assumed you'd need a bit more convincing. Especially when you consider that I don't even know all your names!"
"As for the Silver Ravens, my friend I would not even say that I am one of them. They have been missing since before the Night of Fires, from what I can gather, but there will always be people dedicated to truth and justice and it seems my mother, Porcia was a part of one of just such a group."
"I was approached not long ago by Laria Longroad, a contact of my mothers apparently. Laria explained that my mother was a high ranking official in the Sacred Order of the Archivists, an organization dedicated to preserving and restoring history. I did not believe this at first. My mother? However I was handed this note and a coffer containing some of the last valuables belonging to my family."
He hands the letter (Link) to whoever is closest and waits for you to finish reading it.
"It seems Laria spoke to my mother last seven days ago, but believed she was over reacting. Once my family disappeared, she sought me out, offering me a place to stay and whatever information she could find. How ever it seems to me this Fair Fortune Livery would be the best place to uncover information, and I would like you to accompany me there. Perhaps it will even give us time for formal introductions."
This is one of those discrepancies I mentioned in the discussion thread where the Players Guide provided more into about the Silver Ravens then perhaps it's supposed to. Given Femi's penchant toward research and Elias' age, I would assume both of them have discovered or heard rare mention of them, however Mykhail, Kalem, and Brask would likely be in the dark.
Brask Ulbreaker |
Brask takes one look at the note and passes it on to the next nearest person with a shrug.
"My name's Brask Ulbreaker." The half-orc identifies. "Been here for nearly... six years now? I just did dock work, but it seems I was just idling about until this protest came along." he looks up at the ceiling and sighs. "This is why I stayed, I guess. Nevermind I had nowhere else to go."
Eliastraza Malifinion |
Elias takes the letter and reads through it, before handing it around. The elf eyes the others, and the old man. He finds it hard to be open about himself after so long.
"I am called Elias Malifinion. I once was a priest to the Lady of Wasps, Calistria. Now I'm little more than a musician, paying my way with my harp, and occasionally doing as I am called by my faith, when I'm certain I can get away with it.
I remember the Ravens of old, for I have resided in this city for over a hundred and fifty years. They were canny, and secretive, even then, and I am not entirely convinced they have utterly vanished. The legend would make a good frame to pin a revolution upon, however."
Kalem Riker |
Kalem glances the note over. He wasn't much for reading, which his mother always berated him for. All that mattered was if it was genuine.
I doubt he could tell with any sort of check
He hands the note to Femi.
"I hope theirs some kind of payment? Not to be a stick in the mud, but I only have what I need for jobs, and not a copper more. A couple more days and I'll have run out of trail rations to munch on. If you ask around though, they'll tell you Kalem Riker is a tried and true workman, with a variety of talents."
Euphemia 'Femi' Ferka |
Femi takes his turn reading the note and passes to Mykhail. When he has finished, Femi speaks, "Well, these Silver Raven's certainly are elusive. Weeks of thorough, painstaking research, days of protests and missed opportunities, and now you're not even one of them, but maybe your dead mother might have left some clues behind?"
"That's subtle..."
He thinks a moment, "And sorry about your mother. That can't be easy. I don't mean to be cavalier I'm just bit surprised I guess."
He walks over to Rexus and shakes his hand, "I'm Euphemia Ferka - Femi for short. At your service. Let's follow this lead!" He looks to the others, glad they'll join him in this wild goose chase.
Knowledge is power, he thinks. What power will this trip bring?
Knowledge Local: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (17) + 9 = 26 What do I know about this next location?
Mykhail |
Mykhail read over the paper, and though he didn't know anything about these Silver Ravens the fact that they were trying to restore Kintargo was enough for him.
"My name is Mykhail Amell. I grew up on the outskirts of Kintargo but have spent the past few months trying to gather information so I can put a stop to Barzillai. If helping you leads to the redemption of our city then you have my aid."
GM Xynen |
"Well met, all of you!" Rexus smiles at each of you and turns to Kalem, "I understand that typically organizations need funding, so let me be your first investor."
Rexus produces the coffer that Laria provided him, the one from his mother, and opens it to reveal 150gp, a Victocora (75gp), a masterwork silver dagger (an old family heirloom) and a set of bracers of armor +1. He also hands back the 4gp and the pendant that Kalem had provided earlier.
"I have removed everything of sentimental value from the coffer, everything inside is yours, I won't take no for an answer! Now, let's go investigate this livery shall we?"
Rexus moves quickly now that everyone has agreed, and he leads the way to Red Roof toward your destination. Femi recalls that this livery in particular was once a Stable for the now dead Juliac family, who had purchased it as a slaughterhouse but insisted on caring for animals instead of killing them.
It's not long before you find yourselves outside the building. This aged stable leans slightly to one side, its roof precariously propped up by aged wooden walls. The air reeks of stale urine. As you approach the doors broken desks, scuffed tables, and torn chairs can be seen littering the inside. Standing in the middle, growling menacingly is a feral mastiff, with two less imposing, but still angry looking mutts on either side.
Kalem Riker |
I was trying to Retcon Kalem's actions. Now I need to figure out if Kalem is okay with taking money he originally robbed. Sigh.
GM Xynen |
Well Rexus is giving it to the party as a whole, so I imagine that's a group discussion.
Euphemia 'Femi' Ferka |
"I have removed everything of sentimental value from the coffer, everything inside is yours, I won't take no for an answer! Now, let's go investigate this livery shall we?"
Femi is unsure how all this will work itself out, but he knows not to look a gift askance...
"Thank you very much Rexus, that is most kind. I suspect our donations shall all be of blood and sweat," he looks at his companions, "Not a one of us as wealthy as all this! Thank you." he smiles warmly.
Anyone want anything in particular? Femi will eye the bracers, at least until we can sell 'em. But he won't pick them until everyone else has turned them down.
- - -
Femi eyes the mastiff. "That's a big dog. I have a few magic missiles, of a sort, left, but nothing heavy - and no more healing I'm afraid. So let's take care here."
Kalem Riker |
Kalem steps forward, his arms outstretched and hands open.
"Easy there," he says softly, making his way over to the beasts. Ready for any lunge or agressive motion
Handle Animal: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10

Brask will draw his falchion again. "I got something heavy." he says, a look of concern on his face. "Though I feel a little bad killing dogs if we don't have to."
Best thing for me is to get ACTUAL heavy armor. So keep an eye out for that, I guess. I think Femi of current can benefit from the bracers of armor.
Eliastraza Malifinion |
"I also have 'Something Heavy', as you say, and I have some access to healing, myself. But if it comes to it, I hope we will slay the dogs before we let them attack us. Does anyone know a butcher nearby? Fresh meat may suffice where calm words do not."
Elias steps forward slowly and quietly, one black-gloved hand resting on his harp. Keeping his movements slow and steady, he slides his sword from it's sheath, holding it low.
"It might be best if some of you stayed back, Femi. I am not yet so practiced that I can protect all of your from my Lady's energies, if I am forced to release them on the hounds, and of all of us, you seem the most practiced at the greatest range."
GM Xynen |
A very rare gem, last of its kind. The rest were destroyed in a fire one week ago. ;)
That was supposed to read a Victocora signet ring. My apologies.
Mykhail |
"Take care when traveling through Red Roof or Temple Hill alone, the gangs there are getting restless, they say the Red Jills' boss has gone some sort of crazy."
When Mykhail realizes where they are heading he shares the information that he had heard during the protest and advised that they all tread carefully. Thankfully he was not alone but thought they should still play it safe, who knew what was lurking just beyond. Seeing the dogs among the refuse Mykhail drew his pistol making sure it was loaded and readying himself for battle.
"If they attack try to give me a clear shot."
I am good with splitting the money evenly so that I can keep my stock of bullets up.
GM Xynen |
"Thank you for the warning Mykhail, I hadn't realized Red Roof had become so dangerous." Rexus reflects on the number of strange changes that have upended the city the last few days. As the dogs reveal themselves and the would-be revolutionaries discuss how to handle them, The noble seems lost in thought.
"Well Brask, there is a proclamation calling for the turn in of feral dogs to rehome them. And our dear lord-mayor is awfully fond of the Mastiff breed, perhaps you don't have to kill him, and we could make a little gold on the side, straight from the Thrune’s pocket!"
Rexus hangs back behind the group, making it clear he has no intention to engage the beasts.
The dogs move up as Kalem attempt to calm them, but it seems their patience has been tested to its limit and the half starved pack starts in toward the party at an alarming speed.

Femi you can think of number of places to bring stray dogs, but carrying them around would make you pretty obvious to the Dottari so you'd probably be forced to turn them over to them anyway. As to whether or not they go to citizens or soldiers, that's generally a case by case basis.
Kalem Riker |
Would Kalem have some rations on him in case of emergencies? If he did, would he have some kind of dried meat to feed to the dogs?
"I don't think we should kill them. If anything, we could leave them here."
Kalem stoops down to feed his former attackers. Even with the pain of the bite wounds fresh, he can't help sympathize with the beasts, born into a life that was hard for them.
"If we can't bring them somewhere safe, I say we leave them here. If any of you are against that, then I vote to sell them to the Dottari. At least they'll have a chance for a decent life and I don't believe our revolution should be built on the blood of anything that might turn against us..."
