As he feared, his stomach roils at the spectacle. He stops short of anything his immediate neighbors might regret, but he’s uneasy and upset none the less.

”There’s nothing we can do now against such a large force I think, but perhaps we can return and free the poor man when there are fewer guards. We should plan to return later and see what can be done. Something must be done.”

”The Lictor isn’t here, let’s get on to the shrine and see what can be found there.” Femi is ready to move on, but the condition of the prisoner weighs heavily on his mind.

Elias frowns thoughtfully, "Perhaps there is something we can do, though. Healing his wounds would be swiftly noticed and...corrected. Surreptitiously feeding him, on the other hand, might not. Without hunger to drive him, he could not be forced to confront the hounds, and may survive his sentence. We should research options to see what we can do about this before his first session tomorrow."

I have a plan! To the Discussion Thread!

Murmuring under his breath, Elias replies, "For our purposes, a public failure of this torture to cow the prisoner might be more useful than an immediate escape. I must consider, but I might know a spell that could keep him fed. If I could use that, combined with making Femi invisibly, he should be able to sneak close enough to use his arcane magics and levitate the focus of the feeding spell to the prisoner without his guards ever noticing a thing."

"Boy I don't know. I don't think food will be the biggest of his concerns to be honest. He can't move in there for fear of impaling himself and dying."

"Even if we successfully feed him daily, he's got to hold himself in that impossible position, for 23+ hours a day. That torture isn't something I can live with if we can do something to stop it. I say we return this evening and break him out if we can. I don't think I'll be able to sleep, knowing the condition he's in."

"There must be a way to push Thrune away from this violation of flesh. Death is one thing, but torture? That's something entirely different and while I know it happens, we must do what we can to limit it as a useful tool. If it's more hassle than it's worth, maybe Thrune will avoid it."

Femi is assuming the person in the box will slowly grow exhausted and fall on the spikes, killing themselves. If I misunderstand the nature of the box, please let me know.

The crowd begins to thin a little as the Raven's discuss their ideas. Setrona speaks up shortly after Femi.

"I agree. Food is good, and it'll help, but he can't even lay down in that thing." She frowns as she affords one more look toward the doghouse.

"By sunset his legs will be sore, by sunrise, I don't know, I imagine I'd be full of holes before night fell myself."

She turns to leave the grisly scene, beckoning the Raven's to follow.
"I can't imagine they'll have eight guards watching him all day. Maybe we can come back later and get him out? Or do you think it's risky? I'm relieved my cousin isn't here, but, I'm not sure I can face him after leaving one of his men in a box like that." She puts her hands on her hips and pouts. "Unless you think he'd be of use here? Ug! Is this every day for you?" She rubs her temples as she continues to try and figure out how she can contribute to the situation.

So, are we working out how to save the prisoner, or headed to the Shrine? You don't have enough time in the day to do both.

"This is wrong, pure and simple. And saving the man's life is more important than meeting your cousin. So let's plan, gather some oil and other supplies we may need, and save this man today. Tomorrow, we can bring him to your cousin - a show of good faith."

"How will we get past the lock on the doghouse? I assume it has one. Timing will be critical as guards will most assuredly start arriving as soon as we make a hostile move." he peers through the crowd at the structure to take its measure.

Later, Femi will buy several flasks of oil, or a small cask - enough anyway to coat the bulk of the structure quickly.

He cannot allow it to go unanswered or unpunished. That does not make this the wrong choice. It is a choice thrust upon us, and the guilt for what follows lays squarely at Barzillai's threshold." Elias stares each of his confederates in the eyes, making sure his point is clear.

"The man is a murderer and a monster. He must be stopped, or the travesties he inflicts on our city will never end. The blood that is shed, on both sides, is the price of this freedom."

"Burning the platform is risky, but bold." Setrona says as she leads you away from the plaza and the Raven's begin to plan their rescue mission.

The bar owner offers to keep tabs on the scaffold with the prisoner while you all plan, and in the early evening she informs you that the Order of the Rack Hellknights have left the area, and have seemingly left the Excruciators.

"Without them, getting to the Torrent soldier will be that much easier. We should get there soon, before they start prepping for sunset.

When you arrive back in the area, you see her information was good. Two of the excruciators sit at their posts, watching disinterestedly at the people moving through the area. A third is napping beneath a nearby tree, and the fourth sits near the doghouse, taunting the prisoner with a sandwich and laughing. The torrent soldier already looks exhausted, and his body trembles in it's odd hunched stats,

The guards note your group, but plenty of bystanders have been in the area and they don't seem overly suspicious of you.

[b]"You here to leave scraps for this pitiful f@$#?" Says one of the resting guards as he stands up from where he was seated. "There's a slop bucket over there, throw in whatever you got, but don't get close to the dogs, they're likely to bite you're hand off. We're starving them so tonight's show will be a good one. "

Smirking coldly he watches you to make sure you do as you're told so he can get back to sitting.

Am hoping to buy some deodorizing agent during the downtime while waiting for the area to clear out a bit.

deodorizing agent:

Price 30 gp; Weight —

Coating a creature in a vial of this milky, odorless substance takes 1 minute and renders it scentless for 1d3 hours. Creatures that rely on scent for locating creatures do not gain the benefit of this ability against a creature affected by a dose of deodorizing agent.

The excruciator eyes the Raven's suspiciously as no one answers him or moves to place any food in the bucket.

"You all just going to stand here and stare at me? Maybe show some respect to agents of Thrune!" He starts raising his voice which grabs the attention of the other two guards that are still awake. They sit up and little, hands on their weapons, unsure what's transpiring.

Myradil using his deodorizing agent and Elias' invisibility spell has a clear shot at the gate on the doghouse, now that the one taunting the prisoner has been distracted. The locks in place do not seem overly complex, but they are sturdy.

As Myradil approaches the gate, he sees that the guard sitting by the doghouse might be too close for him to work on the locks, thankfully Brasks bravado finally calls the excruciator away leaving the elf to his work.

The prisoners eyes widen as he sees what's being done and hears a voice from the wind. "Thank you! I knew the Lictor wouldn't let me stay locked up here." He whispers.

The locks are disabled easily, though the gate is heavy and needs to be removed from the structure before the prisoner can make his escape. Strength check, or you could let it fall and run for it, your choice.

Kalem steps toward one of the excruciators and attempts to take them out with a well placed strike. The attack hits, and knocks the wind out of red, but her knees do not buckle and she remains standing.

Elias despite his fear and forgetting -2 from being shaken actually manages to strike the fallen thrive agent with his sword, and while Setrona continues to hide delaye Myradil appears from thin air and finishes off the opponent, silencing his threats.

Kalem presumably targets red, misses with his first attack but lands a solid blow with his second.

Even Brask manages an impressive strike vs green, cutting deep into the excruciator who howls in pain but doesn't falter.

Femi finishes up with a non-threatening but powerfully concussive barrage, knocking the remaining three agents on their backs and at the mercy of the Ravens.

Vulnerable, and without reliable back-up, the agents throw up their hands as green snarls at Brask. "We yeild, let the prisoner go.

At the sound of surrender the prisoner crawls from the doghouse and bolts down the nearest street. I won't go far!" he yells back, Setrona moves from behind Brask and tails him anyway.

A few sounds of shock and awe come from the people in the plaza, as well as some insults hurled at both parties. "we'll leave our weapons, let us go. If you kill us here, Thune will hunt you down like the dogs you are." Green threatens despite his disadvantage.

The exruciators are true to their word, and with a nod from green, they drop their weapons and retreat, stopping only long enough to grab their fallen comrade. The people around the plaza find that they have no idea how to react. You see a few runners, obviously off to share the news, though their opinions on the matter are no guarantee. You hear a few whispers mentioning the Silver Ravens, but no one seems really sure, and as the party retreats into the ally no one moves to follow.

Setrona, having caught up with the prisoner, hands Myradil back his tools and looks at you all with a new found respect.

"Thought for a second we would lose Kalem, but you really turned it around."

"They sure did." Says the Torrent Hellknight, shaking from his ordeal but looking eager to move, his voice is weak and tired. Setrona pats him on the back, looking sympathetic. "We need to get him somewhere safe, I could use your help keeping him from being noticed if you can. Just until we get back to the Tooth and Nail anyway, but I understand if you need to tend to your wounds too. We should probably lay low for today. Once the dottari hear about this, they'll be out all day and night. There's no way we can search for my cousin now. Let's try again tomorrow."

In either case she requests that you all make your way to her place before noon the next day, so you can decide on your approach to the shrine.

When Elias, and anyone after him, returns back to the Wasp's Nest, your assaulted by a number of complaints from both the Fushi Sisters and Harley's merchants. It seems that sometime during the week the two teams crossed into each others territory and sparked something of a rivalry. Angry words are exchanged as both teams drop off their weeks work and blames the other for getting in their way or stealing their profits. On the bright side, the treasury grows by an even 70 gold.

The two teams have developed a Rivalry and will be unavailable for the next week unless an Officer (only 1) attempts a DC 20 Bluff, Intimidate or Diplomacy check to resolve the issue.

Pavus, though his troupe did not get into any fights, doesn't have much better news. "Looked everywhere, but can't find any mention of Nox. Not even by Hellknights at the Opera House. No praise, no complaints, and if you knew what a hardass she was, you'd know that last bit is really odd. Although, from what I hear, she's not the only one to just up and disappear lately. I can look into the other disappeareances if you want, just give the word." The flamboyant half-orc smiles apologetically and awaits further instruction.

When Forvian hears about the fight at the plaza he gives his input.
"Barzillai is twice as likely to keep these punishments up now. Thrunes always double down before they give up." He shrugs casually but his eyes are angry. "If you want, my Black Feathers can keep an eye on the plaza. We could probably rescue any poor saps they iron next. Best if we rotate the people making the rescues though, you boys get too famous and this rebellion is done before we get to the good part!"
If/when any future doghousing occurs the Rescue Character option may be used to save prisoners throuhgout the week.

Alright, another weeks worth of work needs to be planned for the Silver Ravens while their officers help Setrona Sabinus out. Let me know what you want your teams to do, and you still need to decide if your approaching the shrine under cover of night or light of day.

”Laying low sounds a good plan, and you’re right. This won’t stop Thrune, no one action will. But we must persist in our attempts and, eventually, we’ll overcome.”

When he gets back to base, he’s even more convinced the group needs a second hide out. Just too much traffic for one coffee shop. When he hears of the rivalry, he does his best to sort out a solution.

”Everybody please calm down. We’re all on the same side, aren’t we? Let’s redraw your territory, and create a no-man’s land in between to avoid this in the future. OK?”
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (20) + 10 = 30 (Only doing this if it does not take my Rebellion action.)

He sips some coffee and chats with the group, ”Well, we have too many things to do this week, and not enough time to do them all! Clearly growth is our primary concern, so let’s grow. We can’t let our coffers go bare, so we’d better do that too. Finally, let’s let the Black Feathers save the next prisoner as well. Thrune has to give up eventually, right?”

”This does delay our need to get another safe house by a week. We need to train up a crew to investigate some options and work the problem. Let’s make that a priority next week - even if we have to donate cash to the cause to make it happen. All agreed?”

Here’s what I suggest for this week but, as always, happy to change it up if folks want to do something different.
- Recruit Supporters (no team required)
- Earn Gold (Fushi Sisters)
- Rescue Character (Black Feathers)

To get a second safe house, we need to train up an outlaw crew. Two weeks minimum. As it’ll be a while before we get four actions, and one is always to grow, and one to rescue a character, we’re going to have to leave off cash collection for two weeks to make it happen. That will almost certainly require us to pony up a few hundred gold for the cause.

We can start that this week or next if folks agree to the plan. Thoughts?
