This is yet another attempt of mine to run an online PBP campaign. I have attempted many a campaign online and have had to shut down a few of them. I learned I that I cannot make these games complicated as it makes it hard for me to run and keep up with. The easier the setting and story, the easier it is to run and to keep up with. Story will still be intricate but won’t require TOO much explaining as my previous games have. So this is an absurdly simple campaign. Here it is,
Xanxiou’s Crystal
This campaign is an underground setting. The majority of this campaign takes place underground. Even though it is an underground campaign, expect a whole world with a variety of terrains.
The main premise of the story is that an earthquake happened and wherever you live or were traveling too, you fell into a fissure in the earth. You fell for hours before finally falling into an underground ocean. You wake up on an underground island with other survivors of the catastrophy. Now you must find a way out but as you do, you also wonder what happened to cause such a furious a catastrophic shake in the land. Find out in Xanxiou’s Crystal.
Build Rule
Material: NO THIRD PARTY. Paizo material only
Ability Scores: 20 Point buy
Races: Core + Drow, Duergar, Mite, Deep Goblin, Orc, or Fetchling
Class restrictions: No Gunslinger
Traits: 2
Wealth: 1000gp (Rich parents can tack on an additional 900) Spend it all because it will be a good while before you can buy and sell again

Application requirements:
Character concept:
I do not need a full history of your character. What I need is an understanding of your characters personality and motives. Wherever your character lives, he/she is miles from it and not likely to return in this campaign. So a brief history. I want to get a feel for your concept. I do not want quiet characters if you can help it. I would like talkative and active characters, not distant or boring. While I know that they are a part of life, they make it very difficult to run a game. Active and explorative character’s with meaningful purposes, goals, and motives. Please.

Posting:
I have games that I have shut down due to lack of posting. I will admit that I cannot post all the time but lately I have had much more free time. I would like to keep it moving so it is best that you can post at least 1 – 3 times a day. I can keep up if the game moves but I usually wait for everyone to post at least once. Often enough the game has ended because someone has disappeared or is not posting often enough to keep the plot rolling. This is especially painful when that person is the one leading the game as in the major conversationalist. I will hold to this standard if you do. Please let me know how often you can post in your recruitment.

Party:
I am not looking for a balanced party. I am looking for unique personalities that will interact well with one another. I will be picking players based off of how you may interact with the campaign and with the members of the party. To figure this out, I may attempt a role play session with ALL applicants to get a sense of what chemistry would be like. Depends on how complicated the choosing will be.

I will have recruitment open for the week and will be accepting 4 – 5 players. I will close it this Saturday.

Any questions, comments, or concerns, let me know.

Any particular deities/religions you will be using?

Dark Archive

Anything else of the setting you can say? close to any of the other well known settings (ei golarion, darksun, ect)

Silver Crusade

I'm interested in playing a drow, but a few questions.

Will drow be an underground race?

How would drow interact with the premise?

Can a person still play an evil drow, as long as their concept would allow them to work with the group (mutual survival type scenario)?

Sorry. This will be in Golorion, only it is an uncharted part of Golorion. Deities and other lands will apply only you won't be seeing any of them. Much of this campaign is meant to be unknown and exploring and discovering more of the unknown as the campaign progresses.

It is a learn as you go style of story.

@Xzaral
Drow will be an underground race only not quite this far underground. You can be "evil" as long as the concept allows you to work with others. This is not a matter of good vs evil. This is a matter of survival and figuring out what the heck happened and dealing with it as it is a threat to anyone regardless of their personal beliefs.

I'm not sure if you'd allow this or not, but I'm tempted to make a sorcerer elemental earth bloodline. The son of a merchant, his parents gave him a chance to learn under a wizard to no avail. A failure at wizardry, He returned to the family business which he didn't like but figured he'd be stuck with that lifestyle for the rest of his life. Then the quake occurred and he just had his true magic triggered by this entire incident.

Which would be great, if he wasn't probably going to die down here alone in the dark.

Silver Crusade

Another question. I'm working out a concept, and was interested in trying out the ninja with it mechanically. Before I got too far I figured I'd ensure that would be acceptable. Flavor-wise, I might want to reskin it slightly as a new style of drow assassin if that's acceptable.

I can pull it off elsewise, just want to give the ninja a shot if allowable.

Dotting for interest. Will post a concept later tonight

Scarab Sages

Sounds interesting, is it first level?

Dotting for interest and I'll have a concept later tonight.

Scarab Sages

Albereth, (male Drow Magus)

Albereth of House Darg, was part of a drow group out on a mission to escort members of a noble family from a nearby underground city. An alliance, if reached would improve the influence and power of House Darg in their City. However, only a few days away from reaching their destination, they were ambushed by other drow. During the chaos caused by the attack, Albereth was wrestling with an attacker when the earthquake struck.

Albereth doesn't remember what happened next, but when he woke up he was still holding, with a firm grip, a bloodied brooch in the shape of 2 crossed sickles surrounding, 8 arachnid eyes. The symbol of House Muren.

Sounds very interesting. I will most likely go drow. I will post more detail in a bit.

I'm also very interested. I think that this would be a perfect game for my character Harn. I'd still have to purchase equipment.

Also, I second Aiunder's question: is it 1st level?

Personality:

Harn has a burning sense of justice due to his long period of slavery. He's got no use for Chelaxian's (or anyone, for that matter) that have any involvement in slavery.

Harn a deep sense of loyalty instilled in him by his mentor. He extends this loyalty to any he would call friend or ally.

He's also very direct (some would say tactless), and between that and his appearance, the half-orc often makes a bad first impression. Yet for those wiling to get to know him, Harn is a thoughtful and considerate person.

Harn is a survivor, and part of that is his optimistic outlook on life. He doesn't get discouraged easily, nor does he give up. He tends to be cheery, even when fighting for his life.

I was sort of assuming it was first level. Here's what I've got with that in mind.

Background:

Ollivor Myles was the son of a successful merchant family. Charming and personable, Ollivor was well suited to the job in all but desire. He wanted to be anything but a merchant. While it took some persuading, his father arranged for him to be apprenticed to Calyatron the Magnificent, a well respected wizard.

For two years, Ollivor studied spellcraft, arcane lore, and more. It was all for naught, he apparently had NO aptitude for wizardry. Feeling consigned to the tedious path of his father before him, young Ollivor left Calyatron's service and returned to the task of traveling commerce.

It was on one of these journeys that the earth literally swallowed him (and his wares) whole. He should not have lived, but every rock that should have crushed him
seemed to break apart at the last minute, every bit of stone that should have cut him turned aside. In his greatest moment of panic, Ollivor felt ... powerful.

At least until he plunged into the dark sea below. That nearly killed him but as he gathered what he could of the now smashed wagons' contents, he was aware he had changed. Magic was finally truly his. He could never be a wizard, but he had raw natural talent for elemental sorcery, and his journey through the maw of the earth had awakened it.

He had a chance at a new destiny besides that of a merchant. Of course, that is assuming he can get back to the surface world alive.

For now, his goals are to master these powers that he understands in theory, but not yet in practice. To get home, and find out if his father and other friends/family who might have been in the quake and fall are okay. In the long term, part of him would like to gain wealth and fame on his own merits, just not as a merchant.

I have Harn decked out (Background, Gear, etc.) for 1st level.

Well this is my guy, his is 99% done.

I seem to have a good deal of money left over so any suggestions on that would help. ;)

Here's my submission. Not quite done with equipment yet. Still might flesh things out abit.

Been at game night all night. Yes you are all first level. I will start looking over submissions and further questions when I get home from work tomorrow afternoon.

Harn regained consciousness slowly. The half-orc remembered the ground giving way, and the look of helpless horror on his mentor's face as Harn slipped through the man's outstretched hands.

Without shifting, Harn quietly sniffed the air to get a sense of what surrounded him. Well, seems that I'm not alone, he thought. And at least one spellcaster, judging by the stench of spell components!

Carefully, he picked himself up and did a quick check. Nothing broken, but I'm sure gonna be sore for a while.

Examining the area (with his keen scent--and darkvision if there isn't any light), he noted that the others also appeared to have fallen. As they regained consciousness, the half-orc spoke:

In Common:
"Well, since the fall didn't kill us, and I've never seen any of you before, I'd say that magic was involved in our being here.

Now we just have to figure out what's going on. This should be loads of fun!"

The bestial half-orc, his face and other exposed skin marked with geometric tattoos, gave the others a fierce, toothy smile.

Considering the setting, is this a campaign that will take primarily in darkness (i.e. not sources of light save those provided by the PCs?) Or will the "variety of terrain" that you mention be likely to include phosphorescent fungus, glowing crystals, etc.?

I am thinking about a half-orc ranger on the run from his orc tribe trying to find his place in the world.

I submit Nuggle. A goblin rogue with a bent for poison.

Can I trade GP for more Point Buy? (Armor-Less character, "hand-wave" the cost of high DEX, no Improved Initiative.)

@Princeimrahil. There will be other light sources provided in various areas but expect to deal with complete darkness most of the time. Characters with darkvision are definitely the easy way out but other creatures will provide a unique challenge.

@Void no you cannot trade the gold for ability points. Sorry. I recommend a wand of cure light wounds or potions. Very minor magic items are always useful.

Sovereign Court

Intrested, I got an idea for a duerger Bear Shaman or a Fetchling Bard(Dervish or Arcane Duelist or Sandman) will post a character up a little later today. I like the idea and always enjoy your games Shano.

I am thinking about switching to a class without dark vision either a human or a halfling. I haven't decided on class yet what is needed?

Could everyone who is applying let me know how often they will be able to check in and post. I kind of want a steady game. I have the time, and the material is simple enough to were I can post here more often than most of my games and I'd like players who can keep up or even surpass me.

I'm able to post fairly often (okay that's an understatement). I can access forums at home and from work (at work it can be spotty), and while home often have the internet up. Oh and my phone. And iPad. And waiting on a direct connection inside my head (I'll beta test it).

I can post several times per day on weekdays, and at least once a day on the weekend (I am usually, but not always, busy on Saturday and Sunday).

Edit: By busy, I mean: Away from a computer. :P

I can post several times a day as needed.

I can post at least once a day. As for my max well that depends, sometimes I make it seem like I dont sleep. So yeah I dont think it will get to the point where anyone will have to wait on me. I reserve the right to change this statement at a later date, real life is surprising. ;)

Here is my try :)

I would be able to post once or twice a day on all says except when i have the days-evening shifts at work.

I can do once a day. Maybe twice, though RL can get weird and my family has had some problems recently (to confess)

Scarab Sages

Once a day for me

Not bad. I got some good selections.

I have got to redraw from recruitment, I just can't make a concept work out. Best of luck to all of you.

I'm looking forward to your decision.

**Bites nails**

I will be going over selection this weekend and hopefully starting up Monday or Teusday. Maybe Sunday if I have time. I seemed to have ceased on recruits. Thought I was going to have quite a few drow players jumping in since this IS a good campaign for them.

Right now this is what I see

-Ridge as Olliver Myles a Human Sorcerer

-ulgulanoth (TBA)

- Xzaral as Xzevrra a Female Drow Ninja

-Talomyr (TBA)

-Aiunder (TBA)

-DragonBelow as Albelth a Male Drow Magus

-OmniChaos as Zhimon Rad-something a Male Drow Cleric

-Weren Wu Jen as Harn a half-orc Male Fighter

-Princeimhril (TBA)

-Fallen Mage as Nuggle a goblin

-Void Munchkin (TBA)

-Roidrage (TBA)

Thats everyone I could see. A lot of people interested but not an equal number of concepts. I hope to see more builds soon

Recruitment is still open. Tell your friends. This is a very unique game and I am too take it to the vast and unexplored magical depths of the world.

I've had my eye on this and thinking something Duergar or mite. Still mulling though

Hey if I go Duerger Bear shaman, would I be able to switch out the scythe Proficiency for being able to use a great club? If not no biggie was just curious since I keep seeing him with a great club for some reason.

Are ghosts allowed?

@Roidrage, I cannot believe you want to suffer my wraith again. You are a glutton for punishment.

@Void Munchkin, You mean am I allowed to use them as GM? Of course! Are you allowed to be one as player? Of course not! Nice try though.

Here is Ralvox

I was doing my 30 day Rite of Maturity for my tribe when I was captured by a Drow Patrol after 10 days. I was blind-folded and bound. After 3 days the ground began to shake. The sounds of death were all around me. Suddenly I was falling and passed out. When I awoke my bindings were looseand upon freeing myself I removed my blind-fold. I find myself in a strange place surronded by being I don't know. I realize that my survival may depend upon these strangers. For now I will not kill these unworthy souls.

Cheers!

Just saw the game, will put up a character as soon as I can make sure my boss isn't looking over my shoulder. Sounds epic!
