Well it appears that two of my players have fallen off the face of Paizo, therefore to keep my game running, I'll need some replacements. two replacements...

If you're familiar with CotCT, that next scene is All the World's Meat.

I've been running this game since the former DM dropped it, please I'm looking for players that will stick with it.

Hi :)

I've been getting curious about pbp; it would be a novel form of play for me that I'd like to try. If you'll have me, I'll be glad to join in.

I'm not familiar with the scene All World's Meat (although I am a part of a real-world group playing CotCT - we recently cleared the sunken ship of nasty affliction).

If I'm accepted, what are the rules, what level character should I design for? Wealth, etc - and what are the house rules and guidelines that I should be aware of?

Thanks!

Oh, if you're keen - my girlfriend would play too; that covers you for two characters :)

I am interested as well. I am currently playing in three PbP's here at Paizo, so I am familiar with the PbP process. I know nothing about Curse of the Crimson Throne adventures - I have a pdf of the players guide, and that's it. I would be willing to play any class needed.

Thanks!

Throw my hat in the ring! I think I have the players guide, but nothing else for Curse of the Crimson Throne.

The characters I lost were the rogue and a paladin.

25 pt buy. 2nd level.

Submit character concepts.

Hey, I'm with LoreKeeper. I would like to try PbP out, never done it before
I died resently as a rogue in CotCT and came back as a paladin :P
Anyways, what classes are the people that are still in the game?

Sorceror (Last original player)
& Cleric (recruited with the last round)

Panish Valimer (human paladin, favored class paladin - staying with the core class for the duration of the campaign)

Panish is a servant of Iomedae. He considers Khorvosa a treasured home, having risen from the folds of the street to a respected knight of the Church of Iomedae. Although his superiors find him lacking in the strength to carry a fight on the front line, his warm report with the citizens of Khorvosa and his devotion to Iomedae endear him to most. He sets forth on order of the church to aid Khorvosa in its time of need.

She is very protective of her family, willing to do anything to keep them safe and create a good life for them.

Oh, two traits as well.

Are you open to adding more than two PCs? I am definitely interested and have a character in mind if it is an option.

Looks like you already have plenty of good people ready to go. I will respectfully bow out.

Lamm was a blight onto Korvosa, his passing will be mourned by few.

Here's where we're at, Lamm is dead, The King is dead, Queen Ileosa has been requesting the aid of heroes...The rest of the party was brought to Castle Korvosa and have just talked to field Marshall Cressida, that's where the new players will enter, you will have been seen doing heroic deeds by those under Cressida's command and were brought to her.

OK Camric, LoreKeeper, Endraca, you're in.

Presenting Sargent Dolph Drakus...

___________________________________________________________________

Sargent Dolph Drakus
Decurion of Legio XV (Ileona's Fist)

Human FighterL2 LN

STR 16 +3
DEX 14 +2
CON 16 +3
INT 10 +0
WIS 10 +0
CHA 12 +1

APPEARANCE
6' tall, 220 lbs, dark hair cut high and tight,
blue eyes, generally flinty of demeanor but good looking as well.
He wears armor and equipment of official Korvosan Guard issue.

PERSONALITY:

Sargent Drakus thrived on the duty and discipline of the army, and expects the same of others.
Feeling guilty about letting that family be killed on his watch, and desiring to recover
his good name, he will not let anyone else down for lack of discipline. Having known
injustice however, he is becoming a little more empathetic; sliding towards "Good" as well
as Lawful.

BACKGROUND:

A son of a local city blacksmith, he joined the Korvosan Guard at an early
age and quickly made it a career. He was an up and coming officer of the XV Legion
of the Korvosan Guard, until on assignment the family of a high Magistrate was killed
while under his protection detail. Out on a patrol sweep at the time of the attack, he
was the only survivor. As a political sop to the family, he was unjustly convicted by his
superiors of cowardice and given 100 lashes, scarring his back badly. His reputation is
badly tarnished, and whispers of "Coward" still haunt him. His presence now an embarassment,
his superiors want to unload him on the next available suicide mission.

LoreKeeper here :) (reply a bit cut-down now, stupid boards ate my original post *grrr*)

Panish Valimer, male human paladin

Appearance:
Panish has almost girlishly good looks, exotic features such as olive skin and narrow eyes betraying his mixed heritage as a street urchin. His long blond hair is typically tied neatly into a tail. Despite the strenuous combat training at the church his body remains small and lithe.

Personality:
Easy to smile and warm-hearted, Panish is popular with the vast majority of the populace. He is engaging, his intellect and extensive education in religious philosophy make him a popular speaker at religious ceremonies. His early childhood keeps him grounded and allows him to understand the plight of those that live off the street; and he is eternally grateful to the church to accept him into its fold.

Background:
As a small child Panish escaped an orphanage - the lack of effort made to find him lends testimony to his lowly ancestry. He spent his early childhood as a member of various gangs, running simple scams and rackets. Around the age of 12 he attempted to swindle the church of Iomedae, involving elaborate lies of dreams and visions - only to be visited in a dream by Iomedae stating that she'd test him on her longsword and he'd either break or become a liberator for his people.

Panish proceeded to spend in excess of the next three years in or near the church - soaking up knowledge and listening to any excerpts of teachings and lessons on Iomedae - before the church admitted him to training. Perhaps due to the delayed nature of his training, his physical development typically lags behind that of his fellow paladins, but he is never found wanting in theoretical lessons or assignments.

How do we do the intros? Do we introduce ourselves or wait to be thrust in?

Aliandara Leloric, female half-elf rogue lvl2

Appearance:
Aliandara is short for a half-elf though she does not try to hide her heritage, as is obvious her multiple earrings. She has brown almost shoulder length hair and a lightly tanned complexion.

Personality:

Always looking for an opportunity to show her worth and skill, Aliandara puts a lot of effort into any task she attempts. She is wary of new people, but grows protective of those that have gained her trust. Even though she is a dancer, she does not have an entertainer’s flare, more a love of getting lost in the rhythm.

Background:

Orphaned at a young age, Aliandara was saved the fate of going to the Slope orphanage by her brother. He took her in and they did what they could to bring in some money. Aliandara did what she can, first trying to have a "respectable" job dancing as her mother did, but soon had to supplement it with more dishonest methods. She is very protective of her brother, willing to do anything to keep him safe and create a good life for them.

Background Soldier, and the marked bit, where did those come from?

GM:

The Soldier package and the Marked drawback both come from the Occupational background sets and the Character Drawbacks sections of the Book of Secrets. It's cool if they're not allowed, I'd just RP it.

Ah - thanks Set :)

Updated Palish' profile, he now speaks Common, Varisian and Vudrani. Additionally I added class features to the profile.

According to the Campaign Setting, they speak Common (p. 20, 68 and 220 have the goods). Chelaxians also are likely to know a little Infernal, which is apparently the new rage among the upper class.

Being Chelaxians, they might well call it Chelish and pretend it's superior to the language that Andorans and Taldans speak, but that's just Chelaxians for you. 'We only speak Queen's Chelish, here, not that doggerel you colonists are spewing.'

Recruiting a replacement for Curse of the Crimson Throne. Starting Seven Days to the Grave.

This character is the 5th. You will be replacing a Paladin of Iomedae.

The active players are Inquisitor (DMPC), Ninja, Fighter, Cleric.

I'm interested in joining. You say replacing a Paladin of Iomedae, are you looking for a close equivalent, or just another player? The group looks beefy with a Fighter, Cleric and Inquisitor, adding a Ninja as a kicker. I was wondering if you would be okay with something a little squishier? I don't quite have a character idea just yet, but something a little less melee.

As for recommendations, I don't think I've gamed with any of you except Donager. I play the Gnome in the DL campaign he's in. If you look at almost any of my aliases though, there is a good idea of my style of RP/concepts.

Scarab Sages

I've got a gnome wizard that I started in another game that failed to launch a while back. I could advance him to 5th.

I'm thinking I will base it off the premise I used for the other CotCT game I applied for.

Racist Shoanti Half-elf son of a long-line of Korvosan Guard, who doesn't realize he's a half-elf. I was thinking of a witch with a pseudo-dragon familiar (don't have my books, so I don't know exactly when/how I can get a pseudo dragon). He hates mostly halves/mixed (orc, elf, and tieflings) seeing them as a taint on bloodlines, despite not really liking most others. He's more of a grumbler, than an acting on his hate, and when/if he learns of his heritage he will be self-loathing until he learns to cope with himself. He learned of his affinity for magic through the guidance of the familiar.

That's just a quick write-up, if you have any questions please ask. I will put it together at home, into a profile and basic format.

I'm really interested!

I would like to present a bard or a sorcerer. Will be finishing up the concept.

I'm also interested in playing a urban ranger, but your group seems all set on that front.

Here is my concept for Nikalia 'Nik'o' Kaladan. She could be a bard or a sorcerer.

Nik'o:

Appearance
Nikalia Kaladan, nicknamed Nik'o, is gifted with a very strong presence. Her light grey eyes captivate and taunt the soul for confidences. She is generally joyful in her demeanor. Her voice and her laughter remind one of the sound of water bouncing off the leaves of a luscious green plant at the bottom of a small spring. Youth and energy pervade her movements and her stance, yet she keeps an impeccable posture at all time.

Trained from her infancy in the arts of entertainment, influence and seduction, Nikalia shows a devout care to her appearance, for she understands the subtle power such things have on people's hearts.

She wears her black hair somewhat short and straight, keeping them lustrous and dense. She paints her lips and often lightens her skin with makeup. Other times, she'll use make up to accentuate her features in a matter appropriate to the circumstances.

She usually mixes Varisian jewelry of silver with Chelish dresses of black, white and red tones that underline the very fine bone structure of her silhouette. She favors clothes that follow the latest fashion in Westcrown and that are likely to have a symbolic meaning. She often makes small modifications to make them more comfortable and to add Varisian influences.

Background
About a hundred years ago, Lady Ashaz Dermekis of Westcrown, after loosing her husband, decided to put some space between herself and the Dermekis family. Somehow, her husband's side of the family had a feeling she might be responsible for his death... With her only daughter, she stepped on a boat to the colonies, casting her fate to the winds and the seas.

Upon landing in Korvosa, she set upon growing a network of connections and influence by holding fast and exciting soirées for Korvosa's social elite. For Lady Ashaz, the time of the Empire was a Golden Age, and her goal was to maintain the social fabric of its declining polite society through those meetings of nobles, scholars, artists and aristocrats. Her power of influence thus grew considerably and her daughter, Lady Danaeth Dermekis, took over and continued the tradition upon her death.

But things didn't go as well for Lady Danaeth. She did not have her mother's savvy for intrigue and soon found herself embroiled in clique powerplays that threw off most of her patrons and therefore her revenues. Lady Danaeth was eventually forced to marry and took on the name of Kaladan. Marriage brought resources but also sorrows, for her husband was an ill mannered and brutal lover who did not share the same views on Chelish nobility.

Lord Galeus Kaladan was the twelfth descendant of Donius Kaladan, one of the founding settlers. The Kaladans have always been merchants and importers and well aware of the situation in Cheliax. They see the colony as a beacon of hope for Cheliax and have always worked against the powers in Cheliax. The Kaladan family was wealthy, but had seen better days. Rumours of strange curses or nefarious deals, as well as bad investments in Cheliax crippled the family's business and Galeus thought it best to try and change its luck by finding a wife.

Marriage, money and a new name brought back some patrons to Lady Danaeth's soirées, and the salon found a second wind, but soon after the wedding, Lady Danaeth was with child. As it turned out, the fates had a plan of their own, for she gave birth to quadruplets: three boys and a girl. The rare event catapulted the Kaladans' social status, as people became fond of Taleus, Finelon, Daltus and the girl Nikalia. Yet, Lady Danaeth still hadn't mastered the intricacies involved in the deadly art of polite society entertainment and manipulation. This time, Korvosan elite simply abandoned her.

This blow crushed her soul, and she soon became very ill. Galeus used their last contacts to secure a loan and buy a small shop near the center. They opened a coffee shop, hoping that the trend that was appearing in Cheliax would spread to Korvosa. Galeus also made deals with coffee growers in Sargaban’s Kalabuto. Slowly, the lady recovered, and the Lady Ashax became quite popular among the middle upper class.

Meanwhile, her children were growing older. The three boys were of the meanest stock and picked especially on their sister. The best way she found to keep them at bay was to help at the coffee shop. She learned a lot from her mother, but also saw the simple mistakes she made. Somehow, Nikalia had inherited Lady Ashax's acumen for polite society.

Nikalia was sent to a boarding school, escaping her brothers, but also being refused to help at the Lady Ashax. Still, she loved school, had great masters that saw and nurtured her potential for the social and the arcane arts. She graduated and came back, a young woman, only to find her home in shreds.

Times had been hard and the Lady Ashax stood on the verge of bankruptcy. Furthermore, her brothers had turned the heart of her home upside down and chosen a path leading to loss and sorrow. Finally, uprisings in Kalabuto had strangled the coffee trade. The final blow had been the death of the King and the uprising in Korvosa. Nikalia, through a request from a former tutor, had been helping the Guard during these troubled time, hoping to make a name for herself and bring fame to her mother’s cafe.

Let me know what you think and what other information you would like to see.

Okay, looked at some of the rules and what it would take to build my concept.

Just crunch:
I would end up going Urban Ranger 1 to represent his time in the Korvosan Guard. After that it would be Arcane Duelist Bard until I met the requirements for Eldritch Knight. Taking Eldritch Heritage (Arcane bloodline), when I was close enough to meeting the level needed to get a pseudo-dragon from Improved Familiar. I think this wouldn't be until 9th level-ish before I got the familiar, and when I would be able to take my 1st PrC level. Most of this spoiler is just thinking out loud.

Using text from the premise I had presented before, here was some of the Q&A about the background.

Concept (His name will change):
He is a hometown Korvosan. He loves his city, and is proud to be a member of the guard. He hates to see mismanagemnet and corruption ruin what he loves. He also hates those dirty half-breeds, and their foul mixed blood. You can trust an orc to be violent, you can trust an elf to be snobbish, but you can't trust those darn mixes further than you can throw them.

His disdain was groomed into him from his father, a retired member of the Korvosan Guard himself. His mother, according to his father, was a no good wench that tricked his father and then ran off after Pruitt was born. Pruitt doesn't know that his mother was an elven emmisary, or that he is even Half-elven. His father hid the truth from him, and filled him with his own hatred.

Pruitt has very fine features, a gift from his mother's side, but sometimes it's better if he doesn't say anything depending on who he's dealing with. He knows he can use his looks to get what he wants.

Q: Does he have any idea as to his heritage? Perhaps very sharp vision, slightly pointed ears, something of the sort?

A: He doesn't have any comparison to his sight or vision in regards to others. To him he is attentive to detail, and has decent night vision. His ears had minor points as a baby, but his father wrapped them as an infant, much like the toe-wrapping technique. By the time he was at an age to make a distinction, they had already been deformed to have mellowed points.

Q: How did his father get this attitude?

A: The hatred began with Pruitt's grandfather and the tieflings, who so flagrantly flaunt their obviously wicked heritage, sometimes with pride. Over time and drinks with fellow old guard, the hatred ran over to all of those with unclean heritage. He grew to believe that the only good heritage was a pure one, and passed his beliefs to his son. It was these long held beliefs that got passed down to Pruitt himself.

Q: Seeing as he knows about Pruitt's heritage, does he treat Pruitt badly?

A: He has always been hard on Pruitt. The family line have been members of the Korvosan Guard for a long time, and he wasn't going to let the little bastard ruin the line. Growing up, Pruitt saw it as tough love. The old man was strict, tough and demanding with him. Pruitt grew up beating up the kids that suggested that he had elven features. His father never really shows affection as much as pride for his son following in the footsteps of the family. Pruitt sees it as pride in him, but most of his father's pride is in the fact that he pulled it off, with none the wiser.

Q: How long has Pruitt been part of the guard?

A: Pruitt is a legacy member of the guard, his family has served in the guard as far back as his great-great-grandfather. He was educated at the institute, since he reached the age of 14. Some of his instructors were his father's rookies.

Q: If his father was a member of the guard, there are likely some that know the secret of Pruitt's birth. How do the old-timers treat him?

A: In his father's shame, he hid it from everyone he knew. For one mission he was assigned to a security detail for some of the elven emmisaries. During the course of the detail, he had ended up bedding one of the Lady's handmaidens. When she arrived with the child, he rejected her, and chased her off in anguish, claiming that she had ensorcelled him and tricked him into laying with her. He kept the boy, as he was older and had none of his to carry on the name other than the little bastard. He decided he would just hide the truth from everyone. The only people that know are Pruitt's father and some of the other ladies that his mother worked with.

Q: Korvosa is a cosmopolitan city. Does Pruitt keep his opinions to himself, his close friends, or anyone who will listen? Has it been a strain on his relationships with his fellow soldiers, a small number of whom are nonhuman? Has he ever made, or is currently making, an exception that he says "isn't like the others"?

A: Pruitt knows that he can't just spew bile amongst the ranks. He manages to only work with Human or other purebreds in the guard, and he has a few friends he knows share in his philosophy. Some are the younger generations of the friends that his grandfather started with, kind of that whole cop families that grew up together sort of thing. There's others in the guard that know he has predjudices, but like him they tend to avoid working together. He doesn't have any exceptions, as of yet, since he has never given any the opportunity to prove themselves to him.

He was my submission for DM Barcas' Korvosan game, but I didn't get in.

Definitely don't need to have a Paladin replacement.

Let's see what your were doing during the last few weeks during the Edge of Anarchy, this would help me solidify the concept.

Points of interest include...

The Riots after the King's Death

The food shortages resulting from the riots

The Search for Trinia Sabor (the one the Queen accused of assassinating the King)...and of course

The Execution of Trinia Sabor (the failed execution due to the intervention of Blackjack and some other unknown conspirators)

What do you think of BlackJack?

The Heroes of Korvosa? (the PCs)

Trinia Sabor?

The Queen?

Korvosa itself?

Varisians, Chelaxians and Shoanti?

Liberty's Edge

I'm interested in joining in but I'm not very familiar with the AP. What reading would you recommend beyond the player's guide?

Nik'o's last few days:

It had been so long that Nikalia hadn't taken a breather. As she followed the crowd to the gallows, she recollected the days that followed the King's death. At the request of Master Fordisgath, Nikalian had offered her service to the Guard.

She had told her mentor how she felt about their King's death and how some of the rumours echoed in her heart. Could it be true? Could their Queen order such a villainous act? Fortunately, the next days proved such a challenge for her talent that she didn't get a chance to think twice. For days she followed Guardsmen through town, summoning and mastering the arcane currents present in all things to shape miens of protection or illusion to keep the mob under a semblance of control. She slept in the barracks with the men, listening to their silent screams as they faced their inner demons. She too wondered what would be left of Korvosa after this, what would become of Cheliax's former colony.

One night she faced a particularly vicious crowd that was about to set fire to a stable where patrolmen had taken refuge. The Guard's effort were vain and it seemed the men were lost, when she spotted her twin brother, acting as a mob leader. With a smile, she targeted him with a compulsion spell when he too saw her. To this day she doesn't know whether it was her spell or principles that stayed her brother's hand and saved the men from the flames...

The Lady Ashax became a refuge during the famine that swept through Korvosa's youth. There wasn't much she could do, but the skills of Lady Daneth, her mother, allowed for optimal use of whatever was available. Nik'o became well known for her cantrips as they lit the frugal meals with a touch of wonder that filled the souls of the refugee, if not their belly.

And finally word reached her of the King's murderer. She joined the Guard, this time on her own, and swept through abandoned houses, led by misleading tips. Deep down, she hoped she would be the one catching Trinia. Deep down, she hoped the girl would tell her why. Deep down she hoped there was an answer to these last days' madness.

And so she walked, following the crowd towards the gallows, finding herself too far away to hear and see, informed only by rumours of the murderer's inexplicable escape and of BlackJack's involvement.

Her mind spun and spun as she made her way through the crowd. The Guard would not have the answer she sought, but the 'heros' she caught sight of near the gallows, they might know...

Gregor's Last few weeks:
As a part of the guard Gregor was around initially to try and help quell the riots, and he is dutifully loyal to the Korvosan Guard, as a fourth generation member.

During the food shortages, he was on hand to help break up any disputes or other issues that arose from it.

As the catching of Trinia was to find the truth about her innocence or guilt, he was one of the "Trusted Agents" that she was to be turned over to, as it is well known that you would be hard pressed to find anyone less likely to go against the orders of a ranking officer in the Guard than Gregor. Finding out the truth that she was innocent, and that another was put in her place as a scapegoat (I think that's what I read in your game), soured him against the Queen's rule. If she is only doing what quiets the people, but not what is just, then there is something that makes her untrustworty as a leader to him.

Black Jack is a vigilante, who does what is right, but he goes about doing it the wrong way. He would be more useful as a member of the guard, doing what is right by the city in a legal capacity, but the only laws he seems to break are to help the citizens and the city, so it is a tough on whether to approve or disapprove of his methods.

The heroes themselves are doing great things on the Field Marshal's behalf. These side jobs allows deeds to be done, and free up the rest of the guard to work on maintaining peace within the city.

Trinia appears to have been made a scapegoat, and when that failed, the queen found one close enough like her to prove that she cares not for justice, as much as she cares for making a good name for herself.

As a queen, if you have to lie to the people to show them that you are doing the right thing, then you are someone hiding something. Maybe the rumors are true that the king's death was her fault, but without proof, it's just a theory.

Korvosa is home, and any other city, Gregor could not be prouder of than this. His family has been here as long as the city itself, the way they tell it. Everything he does is for the sake of making her better, and standing by his family's service to her. It could do with a lot less of the other races, especially the "Bastard Halfies" that corrupt true bloodlines.

Varisians are vagabonds that never truly know what it's like to settle somewhere and build pride in a place. Chelaxians are double-dealing law-mongers who will twist every sentence to corrupt the laws and use them to their own ends, not to mention being so allowing of those filthy devil-bred Tieflings. Shoanti, they are good people, they have strong ties to honoring one's own family, rarely reduce themselves to half-breeding with other races, and have a strong tie to the land and region of Korvosa.

I've noticed you have a DMNPC in your group and might be interested in adding more than one PC. If that were the case, I have an inquisitor/monk concept whose background was developed for a CotCT game, taking inspiration in the Bene Gesserit Order of Frank Herbert's Dune series: Sister Milena Teg.

It could be another option.

My DMPC is the reason I'm running the game, she started out as my PC in someone elses CotCT game, that person had to drop the game, so I picked it up, because I liked my PC that much. She's a background character but I still get to run her.

Read the game thread I would say.
