Nik'o extends her fingers and three bolts of darkness fly in an arc, landing in its chest. The vampire staggers forward, then dissipates into mist. You watch the mist slither into the cellar and into a coffin.

Sgt. Drakus breathes carefully away from the trap door, then wraps a handkerchief around his nose and mouth. Grimly he takes up his shield and weapons and approaches the trapdoor.
Still upstairs and struggling with the infect smell, Nik'o warns: "Burning is fine, but I'm not sure how the fire will spread. I don't know much about these things, but everyone in Korvosa remembers Sedathiel's unlucky fireball... Idiot almost burned half a district and killed many."
It's still night time. Sorry, super busy, prepping for Halloween, the DCCRPG mystery map contest, sick kids and doctor's visits. Will update after Halloween.
OK I have to face it, I'm not able to keep this game up as fast as it should be running. As I said before this is a great adventure in person, but it really bogged down in PbP. I need your feedback as to whether you want to continue at a slow pace, or if someone wants to step-up and take over. I have too many irons in the fire to keep up a fast game, when I started my new job in April, I didn't realize how much the 8-6 Monday - Thursday would drag me down, especially since at my old job, I had the luxury of watching the thread all day long, and at this job, I can only check at 10, lunch and 3. When I get home, it's eat, chill, help kids with homework, then relax before starting it again...I sincerely apologize for the grind this has become, and thank you all for sticking with it.
No worries on my side. I find the pace difficult on motivation. I unfortunately could not take over without messing up my participation in a number of other threads. I'm ok for slow, but I'm also ok with stopping if we feel it's for the best.
"Then let it be done. We should arrange for those crow faced jackals to come around and clean up this mess as well. Those corpses need to meet a pyre."
I do my best, but sometimes it's rough. Especially with trying to design my own OGL game now also. Basically my own house-rule system.
Working on a system from scratch is a huge project, converting OGL is noisome, but at least I have the SRD/PFSRD to work from. The big thing is figuring out how to write my mechanics in a logical and coherent style. I'm really liking how it feels, but it will have to go thru massive playtesting. Take OGL, and throw away d20s, and the concept of iterative attacks, remove feat taxes for combat maneuvers, and add in the ability to attempt any non-supernatural feat (albeit at a penalty). And that's the concept.
What's Kirth Finder?
The fire builds but luckily doesn't spread to the buildings, due to the heavy fog, the stench attracts a group of guardsmen.
with a serious face and tone
"We are burning an infection vector of the plague."
But by building it from scratch I can incorporate some more balanced systems and concepts, and make EVERY choice at character creation matter for the whole game.

Sgt. Drakus tries to waive the newcomers off.
"Whoa! Stop there! Seargent Drakus, Centurion of Legio XV, City Guard. We're burning some disease sources here and I ain't sure we got them all." Intimidate:1d20 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10
"This is above yer pay grade, we got orders tah make sure tha city is safe, unless yah want tah face vamps yer selves, yer jobs err keepin tha commoners in line, wer fer killin tha critters tha likes o you prays yah never even sees...this is clos tah seein a vamp yer ever goin want tah be. Iffen yah gots objections takes it up wit field marshal Croft. Or yah ken go wit us tah sees her yerself, shes gonna want tah hear bout this first ting."
Gregor watches, concern heavy on his features as he lets a building just burn in the middle of the city. His weariness hangs off him like a cloak, the pallor of his skin showing how much of a toll the touch of the creatures truly took on him. He doesn't flinch from staying focused on the blaze, comfortable that Nik'o and Drakus are handling it. He cringes though as the dwarf speaks up. Really? Above your pay grade, spreading talk of vampires, take it up with Croft? Maybe he doesn't realize that the lot of them are more like mercs in the guard's employ, than they are actual guards. Or maybe it is just the typical dwarven drunkeness clouding his reasoning.
Sorry, lost this game in the updates, then had a hard time getting back into the mojo of posting to my PbP's.
Not that it matters, but Gregor would have put up serious protest to just burning down a house in the city. What's done is done, though, so oh well.
Gregor, luckily it's not a house, but an abandoned business, the owner died some time ago. It's filled with creepy dolls. No problem with losing it in the updates, I know Paizo had an issue and I was lagging behind.
"Oi, Sahgint Drokis, no need t'git up in arms abaht it, Oi wuz just won'drin waht 'appened? Waht's dis stubby dorf talk'n 'boat tho. Oi Sahgint Ward, you're 'ere too? Here' 'ave some o me watuh, you be look'n rough."
True, by working from scratch you can incorporate everything you want, it's just a huge undertaking. I'll check out Kirth's rules sometime also.

Sgt. Drakus waives off the thought of insult.
"No, no. Sorry about snappin' at ye; we ran into some Hellknights earlier. You know how they like ta interrogate everyone, and we're *bleep*ing city guards! Them foreign troops got no respect I tell ya...
"Anyway, Father Donagar's all right.
"Hey Donagar!" Drakus motions towards the proffered water.
"Can ye do that water-to-beer trick again? That could go down sweet after a day like we had..."
Trying to diplomatic here, but am way better at intimidation. Diplomacy:2d10 + 1 ⇒ (8, 4) + 1 = 13 I call situational bonus! ((city guard vs uppity foreigners)+(city guard + beer))
"We be on duty Sarg, but, if you be giv'n this cor'pril and his troops leave t'ave one beer, I'd be thankful as Erastil in a field. 'Owever les 'ead o'er there, away frum th'stench o them corpses."
After the long evening of vampires, corpses, death and disease, a beer and 15 minutes of rest really let you know how tired your are.
Nik'o follows along, asking instead for a dark ruby wine from Westcrown. As she spins the crimson liquid, thinking of blood and Korvosa's throne, she ponders the day's events. "Looks like they did. They didn't strike me as great thinkers or plotters. It seems they're just no better than rats. Vehicles, but not the source we were looking for. How should we go about looking further into this? I miss the King now..."
"Agreed, I miss him as well, the city has gone to hell since his death, as a bad omen. May Iomedae punish those responsible. May we be the instrument of that punishment. It feels as if we're drawn toward higher purpose, we 'heroes' of Varisia."
"Hang-overs is fer amatuers, yah gets a professional on tha job an yah ken get it done. Iffen any bad guys come while Im out yah jus roll me right over em!"
Just before you're about to depart the tavern, a rapping on the door startles you all as cheers and laughter erupt outside. "Open up the Ratcatchers have executed a wererat! It's time to celebrate."
