DM X |
[spoiler=Donagar]The derro, with no weapon in hand is unable to capitalize on Donagar's grapple attempt. The derro draws a wand, and speaks a word, then attempts to touch you. provokes an AoO (you can punch with your gauntlet without provoking an AoO)

You hear the familiar sound of Donagar cursing as he fails to hit once more, as the little derro cackles with glee!
Not easy enough I guess,
Donagar: 1 CON DMG
make a secondary save at DC14 next round.
DM X |
OK going to end this dark combat...the derro could keep it up for a while, he's used most of his big spells, I'm going to remove a coule more charges from the wand, failed uses due to Donagar's FORT save. This combat is just not fair to Panish heh.
You hear cursing, clash and clatter of combat and spellcasting, then a body falling as the darkness dissipates.
DM X |
Fairness to characters do not really matter - but I imagine that it is only prolonging the inevitable, so that is fine by me :)
"Aha!" Panish rushes back in, examining what turns out to be the derro's quite lifeless corpse. "Well done Donagar! We couldn't have done it without you."
It's something I have to be aware of when running PbPs. The more I leave other players out, the more likely they are to...disappear...
Donagar |
"We wailed away in tha dark boy-o, But I finally gots em. Ya'll er all gettin potions so yah ken see better an they will be mah treat so I do not have tah go through tha again."
"I do not think were out o tha woods yet, but we should be gettin back. Yah got all yer limbs still, both attached an unattached?"
Sgt. Drakus |
Sgt. Drakus heaves a sigh of relief as he recovers his Bardiche. He gives it a twirl and slams the butt down onto the floor.
"Right. I don't want to spend another moment here. Are we ready to leave?"
DM X |
Sorry Drakus, it appears I meant to write ...'unfair to Drakus and Panish' and forgot you, no slight intended sir.
With the derro down you now have plenty of time to examine the TWO rooms. The first chamber holds a large four-poster bed and a simple writing desk, along with a full length mirror propped up against one earthen wall. The chamber seems almost unlived in, as if it's more of a place to rest only occasionally. The second chamber must have been the chamber of the derro you just slew. It is dry and well kept, with a nearly empty shelf containing only a few bones, and various skulls and a few books. Below the shelf lies an battered oaken bench, upon which rest a heavily tattooed torso with a right arm still attached, more pieces of Ghaeken...As you approach, the arm twiches as if you lash out at you, though a very feeble attempt. Examining the titles of title of the books, they appear to be necromantic texts regarding reanimation.
Sgt. Drakus |
Revulsion on he face, Sgt. Drakus carfully wraps up the torso/arm and puts it with the others.
"OK, NOW can we go?"
He looks around, wondering what else can happen in this vault of the dead.
Marra "The Phoenix" Warblade |
Marra casts detect magic. "Oh, there are a few items here with a magical dweomer"
Then you hear a distant groan to the south that echoes through the complex, followed by a booming shout.
She grabs the wand and strips the robe from the derro, as well as stripping a ring off his finger. She also grabs a MW dagger, and a few vials.
Donagar |
"Awww fer f@#~s sake, Let's go find out wha tha blazes is goin on. Dwarf calls lead!"
"Anybody need healin first?"
Huddle up then."
Channel positive energy
2d6 ⇒ (6, 4) = 10...
Donagar barrels off in the direction indicated
DM X |
You move quickly and quietly to the room. This foul-smelling cavern is bordered on three sides by ten-foot-deep pits. It is from these pits that the rancid smell of excrement and decay fills the air—each pit contains a few heaps of moldy straw, a wooden trough of filthy water, a few rotting body parts, and a couple still living prisoners. Standing over the rear pit is a hulking brute, tossing rocks into the pit. Each rock followed by a moan, and the mongrel's slurred laughter.
Donagar |
"Panish I doubt this one will listen tah reason."
takes a sturdy grip on his flail.....
Casts weapon of awe....
"Tha ladies ken save tha prisoners, an we ken take care o tha guy who do not listen, cause iffen he was listenin he would be runnin fer tha hills right now."
Marra "The Phoenix" Warblade |
Marra looks at the former guard with a bit of disdain.
"There are people in those pits Drakus, get to fighting or get outta my way. I recognize this type of beast, ogrekin, not much more civilized that an ogre, and we know what they can be like."
Marra levels her repeater, lets loose but the bolt hits the creature, and kinda, just, falls out.
1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13
1d10 ⇒ 4
DM X |
The ogrekin hears Panish, and turns, and looks at you? (hard to tell where his eyes are in that mushed up face
"Oh Boy! Rolth give Cabbagehead big present for more prisoners!!!" Then he rushes forward and tries to grapple Panish (provoking an AoO)

Sgt. Drakus |
Sgt. Drakus mutters something about "women!" as he runs up to attack the brute.
Mw. Bardiche: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (20) + 8 = 28 for a possible 1d10 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6 cutting damage.
...Critical threat? 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10 for a possible extra 1d10 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6 cutting damage.
Panish Valimer |
Attack, headbutt 1d20 + 4 - 2 ⇒ (17) + 4 - 2 = 19 damage, non-lethal 1d3 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Panish, his arms pinned to his side by the brute reclines his head then thrusts it forward - smashing his forehead into the hulk's nose. "Iomedae's head will crush your skull you oversized boy!"
Yea, I know Panish could attack with his sword, but this is cooler.
DM X |
The brutish Cabbagehead, only slightly injured by Drakus' attack, and attemps to swing Panish over one of the pits and lets him drop. Panish smashes his face into the ogrekin's pig-like nose. And Panish lands safely at the edge without falling in.
1d20 + 9 ⇒ (9) + 9 = 18
"You next slashy man"
Sgt. Drakus |
On Sgt. Drakus' next turn, attacks cabbagehead:
Mw. Bardiche: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (11) + 8 = 19 for a possible 1d10 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5 cutting damage.
OK, seriously considering headbutting...
DM X |
Yeah, Cabbage head goes last, and he tried to drop Poor Panish in the pit.
As the beat flounders around he reaches out for Donagar after Donagar bounces the ball of his flail off Cabbagehead's head. Drakus' attack should have drawn blood if not for the thick hide around that fat face of his. Panish's blade slips between a fold in his blubber and draws a trickle of blood.
