ACT III Cutscene:

Korvosa is in flames, Gaedren Lamm is dead, The King is Dead...Long Live the Queen.

Now Four adventurer's, unlikely heroes, ascend the Thassilonian pyramid upon which Castle Korvosa is built upon. Sorin, the Rabbit Prince, halfling rogue, and one of the instruments of Gaedren's demise. Dorrin Kelvar, Ranger and Sable Company Marine apprentice, and companion and friend to Sorin and Marra. Marrala the Lost, now Marra the Phoenix, reborn as Gaedren took his final breaths. And the final companion, Pavo, the grieving arcanist, who's hopes of finding his sister were crushed even as the criminal Lamm was removed from power.

Dorran:

After the Korvosan Guardsmen depart, you're left in the presence of the Captain of the watch, one Lieutenant Marrus.

"Hail Captain of the Watch, Dorran Kelvar returning for duty, I was on an authorized leave. I've finally made it back with the assistance of these fellows. We broke up several groups of rioters on the way back and, came into possession of the Queen's lost brooch. So While I report for duty to quell the riots, these fellows need to see the Queen."

A group of obviously vigilant guards armed with heavy crossbows and swords escort you up to the castle. As they reach the top of the pyramid and the wide stairs curling up to the castle’s third floor, where the Crimson Throne awaits, they are greeted by a beautiful woman dressed in magnificent full plate armor—the queen’s handmaiden,
bodyguard, and closest companion: Sabina Merrin.

Dorran quietly talks to the rest of the group. "Sabina was once the protégé of the famed weapons master Vencarlo Orisini, whose family has been influential in Korvosa for generations. Sabina left the school under dubious circumstances after a bitter duel with her former master. Since her departure from Orisini’s academy, she found her way into the Korvosan Guard. Her skills led to a swift rise through the ranks, and her ferocity in battle and her gothic beauty quickly caught Ileosa’s eye. The queen requested Sabina be discharged from the Guard, then quickly reassigned her to her current role as royal bodyguard, handmaiden, and (rumor purports) lover. Whatever Sabina’s actual relationship with Ileosa, she is rarely seen far from the queen’s side."

Cutscene: The camera pans back over the ruined Fishery, several of the former Lamms are picking through the rubble of the fishery, one of the smaller girls finds her singed buggy bear dolly... several other orphans find pools of half-melted coins, and like the victims of a tragedy, a new leader takes over, a 11 or 12 year old orphan takes the coin piles and breaks them apart...gathers the younger children and they wander off into the night, toward an inn...

I like this medium...it gives you players an insight into the larger world, while keeping the characters separated from the overall story...

PAVO:Obviously you're no longer sickened.

Marra stares at Sabina a few seconds longer than would be normally be prudent...then looks to the floor.

Pavo bows politely as they are introduced to the queen's bodyguard. With a kind smile, Pavo says, "A pleasure to make your acquaintance. I am Pavo Alazario, wizard and Queen's man. These are certainly dark times that we now face, but fortunately we come bringing good news." As if sensing the decorum of the situation, Alistar remains quiet on Pavo's shoulder as the young sorcerer continues, "We have come across something that we believe belongs to her Highness."

"Lieutenant Marrus, please take the mother and those two children to the quest quarters in the south tower."

Sabina then turns to Dorran, "Sable Marine Kelvar, that will be enough, thank you. You should report directly to the Captain of Sable Company, you may even get a chance to ride, several of the griffons are without riders I have heard."

"Alazario, ah yes, your family is know to me. The Queen's brooch you say? Very well, I shall arrange an audience, in the morning, the Queen is in her bedchambers at this late hour, and well you all appear to be needing a rest. I heard of your efforts in the city, well done. Well done indeed."

She claps her hands, and instantly several servants are at Sabina's side. "Arrange hot baths and clothing appropriate for an audience with the queen for our heroes."

"We have a few minutes til your quarters will be ready, please regale me with your exploits of how you came into the possession of the missing brooch."

hectic weekend, I wasn't able to get a picture of Sabina posted, so I did the next easiest thing, I created an NPC of her using the proper picture. I hope you enjoy.

Sorin faces the women and says "We were taking care of a problem most of the guard thought was to small to be bothered with."

Realizing that sounded harsher than he intended he quickly continues. "It looks like you have a big problem right now the city is ready to tear its self apart."

My wife is building her female half-elf ranger tonight.

great, now many people have received their Core? I got mine today. One of the reasons I let you guys have a sleep and clean-up before meeting with Queen Ileosa.

Not here yet, so Sollus will have to stick to Beta until it arrives.

CotCT GameMaestro

First change that will affect you Sollus: Humans no longer gain a martial weapon proficiency for free.

Male Halfling Rogue 2

I got the Core book yesterday so I will start to use the new rules.

Hey this is Dreamweavers wife. What is the point build and starting gold?

CotCT GameMaestro

20 point buy, I had to actually go back and look up what the point buy was from the original recruiting post, since it wasn't my game at the start. Whatever is in the Core book for 2nd level. Sollus, what did you use for your character?

20 pt buy, 2000 gp (DMG p 127, NPC gear value for level 2, which, I just discovered while looking it up, was the wrong value. PCs only should have 900 gp for level 2, according to page 135! Oops!). Since backing the mithral shirt down to a chain shirt will save 1000 gp, and the darkwood shield to a heavy shield 250 gp, it should be easy enough to tweak to 900 gp.

"Taking care of a problem, well that is definitely something Heroes do, and the Queen is looking for heroes. So please go to the rooms provided, clean-up, I shall have the kitchen staff bring some hot food as well, afterwards you can sleep, and the Queen shall meet with you in the morning."

Nina/Set as I said before, I think the easiest way to get you into the game at this point, is to have the two of you know each other, and you were assisting the city, someone saw what you did, and knew the queen was looking for heroes, so you were summoned, you will appear with the others in the audience with the Queen. (probably after they recieve the reward for returning the brooch.)

CotCT GameMaestro

Level 2 PC wealth is 1000gp per the PFSRD.

Need to do the traits and background. Everything else it done.

"Three books, nobody said anything about three books!"

err I mean paladins...what happened to the ranger? heh

EDIT: Yes, two traits are acceptable from the non-background trait now...

Sorin, Marra and Pavo are shown to their adjoining rooms, where fresh tubs filled with epsom salts and lilac are being prepared...an Adept of Abadar, one "Pontus", is on hand to heal your wounds and burns. (Marra wonders if his talents might be better used elsewhere)

You reflect upon your last 24 hours...

[Interject any thoughts here...]

After your baths you are brought regal outfits to choose from (Noble's outfit, no jewelry...yours to keep, feel free to describe the outfit)

Sollus and Tamarie are shown to separate adjoining rooms, and offered the same hospitalities.

RP post bath if you wish.

Human Inquisitor of Iomedae 6

Marra chooses an orange and red outfit. A red doublet chased with golden thread, an nice red hooded cloak, and matching pantaloons. Fine Black leather thigh high boots of the finest quality. Thinking more of utility than looking for a lady-like outfit. The golden thread forms the form of a phoenix.

The Exchange

M Human Cleric (of Abadar) 2

Sollus' head is awhirl. It seemed like only yesterday the city was engulfed in chaos and flames, and he only did what he felt was right, pushing his Abadar-given talents to their utmost to heal those who were injured in the madness that swept over the city, to attempt to comfort those who worked so hard to keep the city under control. It felt like Korvosa itself was screaming, and he never consciously chose to react the way he did.

He could hardly believe that he had been summoned to the castle itself, and could only assume that some of the guardsmen he'd healed had praised him highly. A woman with the bearing of a warrior had also been escorted into the castle, and directed to the room next to his own, along with some others that he only saw in the distance.

He shooed the fluttering acolyte out of the room, before setting aside his soot-and-blood stained robes and choosing from the ostentatious outfits provided to find one that wasn't too gaudy, preferably in brown and golden colors. The bath was luxurious, and Pontus' interruptions made him uncharacteristically impatient with the man, who was only doing his duties, after all. He attempted an apology for his abruptness, but the man's polite dismissal only served to make him feel worse, as he was sure that this functionary received more than his fair share of unearned dismissal.

Male Halfling Rogue 2

Sorin stretches out in the large bath and closes his eyes. He lets his mind wander over the last day and soon the water starts to get cold. He gets out and finds a red and black tunic and a loose pair of black pants. He tucks one of his daggers into the small of his back under his tunic.

You never know what is going to happen, even if she is the queen. he thinks as he prepares to meet up with the others.

We will be traveling most of tomorrow but we will post tomorrow morning and night.

I'd like to wait til Pavo and Tamarie, hopefully both before the weekend is over so we can start moving forward on Monday at the latest...

Male Human Rogue 4 AC:18 T:14 FF:14 / HP:16 / Init:+4 / F:+2 R:+8 W:+2 / CMD:19

Pavo simple gives a curt bow at the lady warrior's recognition before heading off to his room. Discarding the clothes that by now are torn, soot covered and bloody, he lays out his scrollbook and valuables on the bed before he gets into the tub. Letting the warm, lilac infused water cover his body, the stress and weariness of the pass couple of days seems to melt from him as the dirt leaves his body. However, the child's similarity to his own dead sister still weighs on his mind as he soaks in the tub.

As if trying to cheer up his preoccupied master, Alistar takes a running leap from the counter to the tub, landing in a splash of water and crwaling onto Pavo, looking like a wet ball of fur. Seeing Alistar's soaking wet state, Pavo erupts in laughter as he finishes up his bath.

Picking his outfit, Pavo dawns dark blue pantaloons and a red doublet that covers a loose sleeved white shirt. Around his shoulders is a fine blue cloak held in place by the stylized broach of his own outfit. Clipping his scrollbook to his black leather belt, he slips on polished black boots made of high quality leather. Then taking a black thong, Pavo ties his hair back in a tight tail that only lets a few stray strands loose to frame his handsome face. Once he is ready and Alistar is clean and dry, Pavo heads back out to meet with Korvosa's Queen and new leader.

Female Half-elf Paladin 2

Sorry we were at a waterpark all weekend with our kids and internet time was harder to come by then we thought.

After taking a bath and enjoying the wonderful scent of lilac that has now soaked into her skin she gets dressed in a simple blue dress and has let her long hair hang down rather than having it in the usual ponytail. She feels rather naked without her weapons but knows that they will not be a welcome sight. She wonders just who the gentleman next doors is. She saw only a glimpse of him but is fairly certain that he is a Cleric. "I wonder what he is here for?" She asks herself out loud. She had seen several others looking rather worn down when she first entered the castle and wonders about them as well. After pacing several times trying to get the butterflies that seem to have settled in her stomach she takes one last look at herself and heads down to meet the Queen of Korvosa and see what is in store for herself.

Here is a quick blurb about why I might be in the Castle. I hope this works for you and Dreamweaver has filled me in on the background of the game so far.

When the riots first broke out Tamarie helped out a squadron of hell knights defend a church in the city. During the course of the battle she gained the attention of the commanding hell knight who mentioned to the queens guard. The queen asked for Tamarie to come see her.

CotCT GameMaestro

Tam, work that story in with Sollus' story, and I think we havea cohesive background for you two knowing each other.

After your baths, you're brought a sumptuous meal for each of the separate parties, more food than you could possibly eat...

[interject RP here - Meal Flashack]

After dinner you are allowed to sleep, only occasionally awoken by the sounds of rioting, when dawn rises...

The Exchange

Sollus' eyes furrow at the sight of the sumptuous spread laid out before them, but he puts that sour expression away quickly and looks instead grateful. He's wearing robes that seem appropriately clerical, in slate-gray with cloth-of-gold embroidered trim.

At the sight of the woman from the adjoining room, hair down and cutting a very different figure in her blue dress, he stands up again with a start and extends a welcome.

"Greetings. I am Sollus, of the Bastion of Abadar. I believe I saw you earlier, in front of the church, fighting alongside the Hellknights, although I'm afraid I never caught your name in the confusion..."

Male Halfling Rogue 2

Sorin smiles at the obserdly huge amount of food but quickly start eating. Sorins years of living on the street not knowing when the next meal will come kick in and he starts eating as much as he can.

Soon he can eat no more and sits back to drink some expensive looking wine and he looks at the two new additions to the table.

(Same for each group) Sabina shows her face once more, "I hope the meal was satisfactory, I see you all dressed in the new clothes already, hope you found outfits to you liking. Get a few hours sleep, the Queen shall see you after we make battle plans in the morning. The Queen will thank you in person. Oh, and leave all your weapons in this room for the audience, I give my word, no harm shall come to you in the Queen's presence, unless of course, you're caught with a weapon on your person..." Pavo finds a seat at the table, neatly picking food from various trays arrayed around the table, dressed in the fine clothing and in this setting, Pavo seems almost like a completely different person. The weariness in his eyes, dirty clothes and the harsh edge in his voice have been replaced by the smooth tones and neat clothes of a noble. However, a tint of sadness seems to mar his actions as he goes about eating his food. Occasionally, the young man takes a bit of fruit and hands it to Alistar for the little monkey to enjoy.

After all his comrades have gathered, Pavo starts with, "I am glad that we have made it through our recent trials but in the rush of everything, I feel that our introductions are as yet, incomplete. Again, I am Pavo Alazario. I come from a minor noble family who for generations have supported the crown both physically and in spirit for my entire family line may have only been minor nobles, but they were also rather powerful arcanists. I have always been seen as a sort of 'black sheep' in my family due to my failure at joining the Acadamae, and that is one reason why we had met. I hunted Gaedren down not only to save my sister, but redeem myself as well. Now that the deed is done and Gaedren is dead, I find myself wanting to return to my family, but this chaos that has gripped Korvosa can not be allowed to continue. I am a man that doesn't always play by the rules, but when breaking those rules sees innocent people hurt, I must act to help them and support the throne." Pavo takes a drink from his wine glass before continuing, "We have fought side-by-side and I place more faith in you all than a legion of Hell Knights. So I ask you this. What about yourselves? Now that your revenge has been had, what do you see for yourselves?"

For DM X

Spoiler:
, I was wondering if it would be possible to switch the Kukri that Pavo has for something he is actually proficient with since human's no longer get a martial weapon proficiency

Marra watches Sabina with an a playful interest.

"I can tell from the way you carry yourself, that you could take down any one of us in moments, were we to draw any weapons."

After Sabina leaves...

"That was delicious, I've never eaten like that in my life, though I've probably eaten some of these dishes from the garbage..." Marra spouts as she takes a bite from a fresh apple.

"Well I'm exhausted, I need to try to get some sleep before meeting the queen."

post any final RP before going to bed, I will be picking the game up at full speed tomorrow.

NOTE: As this is now fully my game, anyone who has 2+int for skills bump it to 4+int (it is my feeling, that no amount of skill points can destroy the balance of the game, but the lack of skill points can definitely disrupt a story. You can't fudge a related skill if no one has that skill.)

Sollus gets up as Tamarie leaves, attempting to be courteous but flubbing the timing and missing the opportunity to make a good impression. Shrugging, he snags up the non-perishables 'for later' and heads to his room, where he stores the food items out of reach of any vermin (perhaps in the top shelf of a wardrobe that latches shut).

He carefully cleans and de-crumbs his outfit for the morning, not wishing to meet the Queen with gravy stains on the fine outfit she has lent him for the occasion!

He frets for a moment about whether he would even be able to sleep after the events of the last day, and with such a momentous morning ahead of him, but his head hits the luxurious pillows and suddenly it is morning... He wakes up wondering how anyone can get out of bed, with such opulent comfort, and forces himself with a groan to get up and make his daily prayers, placing his hands on the cool stone of the palace walls, finding the patterns of his god in the straight lines and enduring strength of the architecture.

Skills adjusted, thanks!

Moving on:

Sabina comes to get you from your rooms, for the first time you see the others, 5 adventurer heroes fall in step silently behind Sabina, as you follow her through the twisting corridors. Passing the occasional guard, who looks on with suspicion.

As you round the corner, Sabina announces your arrival with a loud, clear voice,

"Heroes of Korvosa!"

Sabina then steps aside to allow you to enter the throne room.
