OPERATION FALLEN SHIELD:

The XCOM Squadron has been re-deployed to Basra after receiving more information about the history of alien activity and the foundation of the shadowy organization they now work for, called XCOM. After Basra was bombarded, UN Peacekeepers were sent in to clear out any remaining opposition as well as scavenge useful alien technology. However, attacks led by a known terrorist have hindered retrieval efforts and have both XCOM and UN forces worried, as no information about what occurred in Basra has yet to be released to the public; it is believed someone is funneling them information for unknown reasons.

Having arrived and met with a Master Sergeant Mylls, the squadron suited up for another scavenging expedition. The site of the latest attack is on the way to their original search area, and the squadron has taken some time to investigate the area and see what they can learn about the assailants. After sabotaging an ambush planned by the terrorists,
they captured two twin brothers leading the cell for questioning.
While one of them was broken during interrogation, the other stood strong and refused to relinquish information. It was learned that they were communicating with someone on the inside in order to gain information on troop movements to salvage alien technology, but also that their mysterious benefactors were American and likely ex-military.

The next day, one of the brothers was found dead and the other abducted after the troops are guard were ambushed. After discerning their were a number of attackers involved, the squadron found trace evidence of the blood of one of the attackers and tracked them to a supply closet. While all they found was a dead body, they did locate a radio which clued them into the position of the traitors. Heading to intercept them they found they had already fled the scene in a stolen vehicle, but using the acquired radio they could triangulate their position for pursuit.

Past Operations:

OPERATION DESERT SPEAR:

Having been selected for UN Peacekeeping duties, the squadron has arrived in Basra after a mysterious event leveled the city. After the dust began to settle, the group accompanied Lieutenant Wingham into the ruined city in order to determine the cause of the damage. They searched a home that appeared to be the site of some sort of attack, with an eviscerated body on the second floor and signs of a struggle below; in addition, the scene featured odd burn marks and other inconsistencies. Eventually, they happened upon a group of refugees and patched their wounds as best they could before heading back towards the base camp. On the way, they were attacked by strange creatures and learned their base camp had been destroyed, and were re-routed to a new location. On the way, they encountered more enemies disguised as humans, but managed to defeat them and regroup with the Lieutenant.

After regrouping, the group was sent out to retrieve a downed helicopter before retreating from the city. They found a damaged radio and contacted the Master Sergeant who had flown them into the city, learning they had been downed by more enemies (these being capable of flight). After locating the helicopter and repairing it, they were attacked by these same enemies and managed to fight them off before flying back to the forward base. Just before they evacuated the next morning, they were assaulted by enemy forces; the squadron held off the encroaching forces before finally evacuating via helicopter as the last departing group. After fighting off more of the dangerous flying creatures, they landed and boarded a truck on their way out of the city. Overhead, UN forces carpet bombed the entire city to eliminate all resistance, and the squadron was told they'd be expected at the UN Headquarters in New York for a debriefing on what really happened in Basra.
