Torvald doesn't really have the skill checks to effectively assist, but after that ambush there's no way he'll let anyone go out alone.

Craggark, absent an objection from someone else, just buy the potion. We can't afford a Raise Dead yet.

Torvald, There's no penalty for failing an aid another check, and diplomacy can be attempted untrained, so it can't hurt to make the rolls to aid Jamir's diplomacy checks.

All - Jamir can't aid a knowledge local check, but Craggark and Jawhar both have higher diplomacy scores than I do and I can aid those.

Should we split into pairs? We could do it this way:
- Jamir and Torvald in the morning, with Jamir leading on three diplomacy checks and Torvald aiding (Craggark either coming along to aid or remaining at the Knot Head to rest and keep an eye on Jawhar while he sleeps);
- Craggark and Torvald in the afternoon, Craggark leading on six knowledge local and Torvald present for security; and
- Jawhar and Jamir in the afternoon, Jawhar leading on diplomacy with Jamir aiding for five checks.

If there isn't time to do all of the checks in that first day after the battle, we could continue the following morning.

If this makes sense, Torvald please post your assistance and aid rolls for Jamir's diplomacy checks, and I will post something general with my aid rolls for Jawhar and let him take the lead on posting who we talk to and what we say.

I am ok with this plan. I would obviously use a fourth charge from the wand if I go out as well.

I'll also have to decide on spells before we go out. I'll post again sometime this afternoon.

Jawhar, as far as healing goes, please use Craggark's brand-new wand of CLW, and he will give it to you to carry for the remainder of the scenario.

Just woke up here in New Zealand. I'll take care of reading all posts a bit later today and replying.

Just noticed this - I don't have a really firm opinion, but I suggest giving the wand of CLW to Torvald instead of to Jawhar. Jawhar can channel without drawing an attack of opportunity and Torvald can use the wand without drawing an AoO (although even the swift action to get it from the spring-loaded wrist sheath provokes), so that way have two people who can heal if needed. Better to 5-foot step and use our potions in combat if possible to avoid losing two PCs' attacks in a single round, but this way we have twice as many options to deal with emergencies.

Also, FWIW, I did not change anything about the purchases I listed yesterday except to add the cost of two nights' stay at The Knot Head for the party. Sent my tracking sheet to the GM, so he's good to go. At the first opportunity, Jamir lends the spring-loaded wrist sheaths to Jawhar and Torvald for the wands of CLW and Protection from Evil (or both to Jawhar, if Torvald isn't going to take the CLW wand).

Craggark, Jamir can also "lend" you a flask of alchemist's fire - he will only have room for 3 on the bandolier anyway (and I do understand that the bandolier does not provide any mechanical advantage over storing everything in Jamir's backpack, but I like the mental image of Jamir loaded for bear, with a bandolier stuffed with three flasks of alchemist's fire, three flasks of acid, a potion of CLW, and a potion of shield of faith, and bags of caltrops and marbles hanging off of him).

So this is what I've got so far:

1. Jamir and Torvald went shopping/investigating together; I'll need just one aid another diplomacy from Torvald for Jamir's first 3 rolls..

2. Craggark is investigating on his own...what time of morning does he leave the knot head? And what kind of establishments does he go to in what order?

3. Jawhar stays and guards the chest at least until Jamir/Torvald or Craggark returns?

Here's what I need:
If Jamir left early he won't return until 6pm after the first three questions..(I'll let you know the result of your investigation after Torvald gives me the aid another roll)

Torvald you also need to list anything you bought while you're out

Craggark please give me 2 additional diplomacy or knowledge local checks you will also do to return at 6pm (lets just assume you guys set a meeting time;).Craggark if you bought anything while you were out let me know.

Well pick it up when you guys meet back at the knot head at 6pm roll play out what we've learned and proceed from there. (if you need to investigate further there are plenty of bars and Inns open after 6pm.)

note it would be easiest that any of you that have herolab just send me updated Herolab profiles after your purchases.

Torvald, please have my wand of CLW.

Edit: I see Jawhar isn't leaving the inn in the morning. I will stay there with him.

It appears to be:

Jamir and Torvald go out in the morning/afternoon while Jawhar sleeps and Craggark guard.

Mid-afternoon Craggark and Jawhar head over to see Arvida.

Everyone returns to the inn around 6 PM for dinner/planning.

I will memorize Obscuring Mist before leaving with Craggark and let him know that if enemies appear I am going to bring up a cloud so that we can escape without battle.

Jamir isn't getting back until 6. You wanted to return from your visit at 6. Either we take it or we leave it in the locked room. Probably safer in the locked room. Enemies haven't mentioned the chest yet.

First level cleric spells suck.

So, no change to my spells after all.

My only purchase will be a scroll with 2 Commands on it.

@Jamir I'll wear the spring loaded wrist sheath, but I don't own that book, so I can't keep it.

I'm not sure if this is violating the intent of PFS, but it seems logical during game play

Jamir can lend anything he buys to anyone. If it's a consumable used during the scenario, it's the same as if Jamir used it; if not, Jamir gets it back at the end of the scenario, regardless of whether the borrower has the book.

I have pretty well decided that Jamir will take a level of bard at 2nd level, so he'll be happy to have the sheaths back by then anyway, for at least one wand.

My two cents: I suggest we see what else we learned before we confront Runa in a public place. We might decide we would be better off going after Hjort first, or maybe we hear something that leads us to where Runa lives instead of the marketplace.

Hjort hired the thugs to kill us, Runa managed to suborn them for her own ends. I think that probably makes her the bigger threat, but it also suggests there may be more for us to learn first.

The minimum Fame to buy a bag of holding (other than off a chronicle sheet) is 13, into 5th level. So at all but the highest tier available for this scenario, the chest is clearly intended to be an albatross around the party's neck. Absent a 3rd level wizard with Arcane Lock, our obvious choices are limited to trusting the lock on the door at The Knot Head again (which gives me the shivers) or bringing the Nag of Holding with us to carry the chest - which means as soon as we go indoors, the chest is unprotected (which gives me shakes).

The third option, of course, is to open the chest. Perhaps whatever is inside would be more portable or easier to conceal without the chest? We do have a key...

I'm not sure which option you mean by "first" - the first realistic option I listed was leaving it locked in the room. Which is probably still the best option, but it makes me nervous.

The over-powered mooks in our first combat have me worried that everything about this scenario is equally over-powered, including the burglars. Probably not realistic.

I think we are all voting to stick together at this point. Jamir agrees with Jawhar that we should probably start fresh in the morning, unless we happen to spot the boss thug from the day before, or someone matching the descriptions we have of Runa or Hjort.

Ok then let's get 3 diplomacy checks from Craggark and we'll pick up the narrative from the next morning. You guys arrive back at your room the guard reports no incidents and the chest appears locked and unmolested upon investigation...

Grand Lodge

We should open the chest to make sure nothing was disturbed ;)

Growl. (At Jawhar)

;)

Diplomacy: 1d20 + 7 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 7 + 1 = 23
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 7 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 7 + 1 = 21

Do we want to hire the guard on for another day/night?

male Snows of Summer

yep I think they do Torvald. Will you Pay for it again?

Yup! Another 3sp for trained hireling.

Are we expecting combat to begin as soon as we enter the tavern?

I can cast buffs before we enter if that is the case.

I suggest using the wand protection from evil just before we go in. It can't hurt, anyway.

Craggark will be ready to throw down, but I won't be doing any significant preparation apart from making sure that someone ELSE is holding my wand of CLW this time.

male Snows of Summer

let me know on this board if you used the wand before entering the pub. I'm going to game play thread to give a description of the outside of pub now. We'll pick up the roll play inside the pub tomorrow..(Sat 22nd)

male Snows of Summer

OK guys lets keep this encounter light and fast ok? If combat does break out; try to keep the flow going as far as game play goes. Jamir is in charge of the map and you should defer all movement questions toward him if you're unsure if the move you're about to take is legal.

Sure. 4 charges of Prot. vs. Evil before entering. (I haven't looked at the gameplay thread yet)

Torvald has the Wand of CLW (also about to check gameplay. 13 posts guys, sheesh!)
