Wrath of the Righteous - W2 (Inactive)

Game Master Lucendar

The Worldwound tore reality apart at the dawn of the Age of Lost Omens, murdering the nation of Sarkoris and unleashing a ravenous demonic horde upon the world. Good luck!

"I don't think they are." Sana said quietly, but firmly, from under the hood that had shrouded her face since all of this had begun. "Things aren't always what they look like, and you shouldn't judge people based solely on things like appearance." there was a certain degree of sincerity in her words... it seemed like this was a subject that was very important to her. "Of course, if you really think that a Paladin of Torag would go out of his way to help things that were probably in league with demons, perhaps you should discuss that with him directly. You're free to leave and try to get out of here on your own, but if you want our help, then I think everyone else would appreciate it if you would trust us a little more." she seemed more... sad, than anything else.

Levelle gesture to herelf, Levelle and then gestures to the eidolon Caomhnoir. We firmly believe that each person should be judged by what they do, not what they are. Levelle does not look at Horgum but clearly intends the comment at him.

Roll20 Maps

Horgus subsides and looks more thoughtful than you've seen him look in the past. His face still shows his disgust when he looks towards Crel, Lann, and Dyra. Both Anevia and Aravashnial introduce themselves simply, Aravashnial appears lost in thought.

Lann begins to lead the way through the tunnels, allowing quiet talk at times, and signaling for silence at other time, especially when passing side tunnels and deep crevices that disappear into darkness.

Male Elf

During one of the period of quiet talking, Aravashnial turns to his guide, asking quietly.
"This Lann, he speaks with a bit of sibilance, and Horgus described them as disgusting. Are they human? What are we dealing with here?"

"I have no idea other than they needed aid. Good Elf. Mayhaps the others know better." replies Goron.

Turning to Horgus however.
"I be a Paladin of Torag Master Horgus, ye do yourself a great disservice here. A Man such as ye should not be jumping to conclusions like this afterall did they not ask fer aid? Look at them, they fear us more than we fear them and it's not right when we have no intention of striking them down. Sana has the right of it.
I be hurting in me heart to find that ye do think so little of me but it hurts even more to find out that me church not be good enough fer you to trust?"

Male Elf

"What do they look like? Do you think they built the statues you described earlier?"

Roll20 Maps

Horgus's face snaps up, looking angry at the continued rebukes, but he holds his tongue.

The hooded girl nodded slightly at Goron's words as they continued to walk along, though she hoped that Horgus' expression showed the first signs of a mind opening up to new ideas and acceptance of others. Along the way, she cast Light on an item every now and then, helping to illuminate the path for others - though she did quickly stuff away her enchanted item whenever they were to be quiet, just in case.

Levelle closes to Aravashnial, If they are those who built the statues, their appearance is inconsistent. These folks look to be of mixed blood, with some of their feature more animal like and not "blended"....does this make sense?

Male Elf

"Hmm, this sounds more and more like the corrupted descendants of the first crusaders. They had been rumored to live below the city. I'll need to think about what else I've heard about them."

"Master Aravashnial, is there anything else you would like to share please." Goron steps beside the blind elf guiding him along the path.

"If you know more, it would be more helpful to us"

Roll20 Maps

Aravashnial is muttering in elven, trying to dredge up memories and dis-entangle conspiracy theories.

You've been walking for about half an hour, when Lann signals a stop. Ahead of you a wide chasm splits the tunnel floor. The air is still thick with dust, this rift must have opened recently. Lann confers with Crel and Drya, they all look surprised by this development and express concern about the tremors destroying their home.

The chasm is only 30 feet deep, the walls on near and far sides look climbable by skilled individuals, but tricky for the unskilled and extremely dangerous for Anevia and Aravashnial. The floor of the chasm looks easily walkable.

Female Aasimar Oracle 2 | HP: 13 | AC: 11, T: 11, FF: 10 | Fort: +0, Ref: +1, Will: +5 | BAB: +1, CMB: +1, CMD: 11 | Init: +1 | Perception: +5 |

Sana timidly raised one hand. "I-I can cast a spell that will slow somebody who's falling... o-once a day..." she said. "If there's a good way to get them back up the other side, I c-can help them get down." Others might need help more than she did, though she wasn't the most dextrous girl around, and she was quite willing to use her limited magic for their beneift as best she could.

Sorry that I didn't post yesterday, work has been a bit *AAGGH!*, also I will be heading out of town for a conference tomorrow so my posting will be spotty through next friday. I should still be able to get in fairly regularly but I wanted to give a heads up. Bot me as needed if I am quiet for too long...

If we think the scale will work for such a purpose and long enough I think it is a solid plan.

"I agree! The scale would be a wonderful way of transversing this crevasse."

Roll20 Maps

I don't quite understand the plan -- levitate targets one creature or object -- and all three NPCs probably need some form of assistance. And none of you are skilled in climb.

Male Dwarf Paladin (Stonelord) 1| HP: 12/21| AC: 17/10/17| Fort: +5| Ref: +0| Will: +5| Init: +0 Perc: +3| CMB: +5| CMD: 15| Mwk Warhammer: +6; 1d8+3| Javelin: +1;1d6+3| Long Hammer: +5; 2d6+4|

Here. Let me explain.
Fact: None of us are skilled at climb. I for one would fall to my death.
Fact: The NPCS need help.
Fact: We have frankly none of the skills needed lol. Like Climb, Knowledge(Enginnering), etc.

Plan: On Side A, we secure ropes and using Knotted Rope to make the DC of the Rope easier for us unskillled climbers. We climb down and then the strongest of us will assist the NPCs to come down using more rope to lower them down.
We'll then walk to Side B while Someone levitates to retrieve our ropes on side A.
Said person levitates up on Side B and secure Rope. We'll repeat the process but in reverse to send everybody up.
I'm pretty sure we'd have exhausted all uses of the scale for today so if another cliff/chasm comes up we're resting lol.
I'll include the link for the Climb Check needed so that GM doens't need to go hunting for it.
What do you guys think?

Male Human Ranger (Urban) 2 | HP: 22 | AC: 17, T: 13, FF: 14 | Fort: +5, Ref: +7, Will: +2 | CMB:+3, CMD: 17 | Init: +4

That is what I thought as well, but we really should have laid out the plan for the DM...sorry about that! We have 3 uses of levitate and will only be using 2 at this time...unless we wanted to use the 3rd one to take one of the wounded up without needing to climb. How much weight/people can each charge use?? I dont think we ever asked the caster level for this item, but the spell allows 100 pounds per level...so it may be possible to take a few people at once. Maybe Tomas should have a look at the scale to get a feel for the caster level of the item...

Roll20 Maps

Got it. And RAW say you should already know the caster level of the scales. Its 19. So your plan sounds plausible, but maybe you have another idea with that knowledge.

I have no problems with this plan. ^^ Sana's rather weak physically, but please feel free to let me know if there's any way she can help - or if you'd rather she simply do her best to stay out of the way.

A 100 pounds per level? Caster level 19? 1900 pounds? that scale could lift everybody up and down. We just need to tie ourselves together, I should think. One of us activate it. we go down walk to the other side and then use the scale again. Just a question though, could I pull a levitating creature along just like a balloon? GM Fiat i should think.

Can we lasso a rope on the other side and use that as a method to pull or levitating creatures to the other side if that's the case for allowing us to pull?

Roll20 Maps

I think you'd need to get someone over to the other side first to find a secure tie off point, but once that's accomplished, yes that could work.

The closest I've got is Mage Hand; if it was mostly going upwards, Sana could always try "throwing" something a rope was attached to. If that's not workable, then yeah, let's go for Plan A. ^^

Roll20 Maps

OK knotted rope with the cliff wall, is DC 0 for any able bodied person. I'm going to assume that the four PCs and three mongrelmen make it down ok. Without rolls. The three NPCs all have negative climb skills so they could fail the DC 0 test. I'll allow one assist attempt, per NPC, (not per player, 1 assist from the whole party). If you can get them down safely, I think your plan is strong enough to get them up later. The down is the riskier bit.

His hands shake as he pulls the last of them up that cliff. Even with the others aiding him, Goron feels the numbness in his fingers begining to set in as his back and shoulders starts to inform him of their displeasure but it does indeed feel good to have accomplished so much so far.

Stretching himself and then retrieving their rope, he looks to the others after resting for awhile.
"Shall we move, my friends?"

Goron once more takes the lead and brings his companions forward. Trusting to his gods to protect them all.

Yeah could've been better but ya know, is what it is. See Eric posted about posting later then hasn't...hope that is all okay, we didn't lose the first DM THAT fast, lol

Goron continues the lead the party and its motley crew of humans and mongrel people through the dark caverns.

Horgus: Male human nobleman Pic
Lann: spokesperson for the mongrelmen and half-goat man, half-lizardman Pic
Dyra: female hunchback, her face so warped by tumors that she’s incapable of intelligible speech Pic
Crel: male with serpent head on gorilla body whose life you helped save Pic

I'm not going to populate my account with aliases for each of the NPCs, just know that whenever they speak, their names will be in bold.

Levelle, in truth, feels relieved to have such "mixed" company, feeling at ease with those who might otherwise be cast out. It was an all too familiar feeling to the summoner.

To no one in particular Levelle offers, How far to our next stop? Time and distance are so hard to gauge down here...

Horgus: "By the gods, when are we going to reach the city above?? It's dark and scary down here. I did promise you all a great reward if you save me, did I not? And you bring this blind elf along who is doing nothing but spouting history no one cares about and slowing us down?! I am a man of my word, but instead of keeping to ourselves, you went and allied yourselves with the forsaken beasts of the underground! Woe is me!"

Traveling at a slow methodical pace so as to not to separate yourselves from the rest of the travelers (15 feet per round due to the elf's blindness), Goron and the rest of the travelers tune out Horgus' complaints and after 18 minutes of traveling, reach the entrance of a cave ahead. As Goron is about to head in, Dyra starts moaning, Crel hissing, and Lann quickly speaks up. "Master dwarf, before you proceed, please know that the cave ahead is one we rarely use, for it has become the den of a particularly dangerous fungal creature we call the “spore-cougher.” That beast has claimed more than a few unsuspecting travelers down here I would imagine. If you must proceed, do so with caution."

You may try a Knowledge (Dungeoneering) or {Nature) check to identify the creature.

Sana tilted her head slightly. She wasn't terribly familiar with any creature by that name - at least, not enough to really identify it and know what its weaknesses might be, though her guess was that it probably spread clouds of some kind... in which case ranged blows might be best? "Um... t-this might be a situation for your skills, T-tomas?" she ventured hesitantly.

"I understand and thank you for your timely warning." The dwarf readies his shield and hammer and moves forward in front of the party.

"The rest of you make ready should yon beasties attempts to attack. Stick to ranged weapons if ye have it. Let me be the sole target of tis beastie though I be naught but a hard rock."

"Master Horgus, I once again must ask for your graciousness in allowing us to seek guides in our quest for the surface.
Tis good folk know the way and they do not register as evil to mine Torag granted senses. Tis way it be much faster for us to achieve what we need and avoid more beasties, would thus not be a good thing for all of us?"
Goron tries to pacify the man even as his eyes search out for danger.

"There be a chance to rest yer tired bones and have at least a good time to rest before we continue on, don't you wish that? Master Aravashnial has knowledge about this place and even though he be blind, his mind isn't. Perhaps Master Aravashnial could enlighten us on the creature mentioned?"

Horgus pauses, "You make sense Master dwarf. I will trust your instincts...but be wary of them.

Aravashnial stays silent and then stammers, "Uh...my specialty is more the arcane and history and the planes. Spore-coughers? Never heard of them, my apologies." The last words slip almost silently from his mouth.

Surprisingly Anevia clears her throat.."Actually, I have heard stories of these creatures. My wife Irabeth and I would swap stories right before bed. Uh..anyway, I believe it's called a basidirond, technically. It's a strange plant that consists of four spidery stalks, long green tendrils, and an inverted bell-shaped cap filled with spores. It spews a cloud of gas that is said to cause its victims to experience mad delusions. I believe it is susceptible to cold, due to its plant nature, but the specific effects I am not familiar. That is all I know. Be careful, Goron." A look of sadness comes over her Anevia's face when she mentions Irabeth.

Venture forth?

Madness she could handle, if only because her deities were far more incomprehensible than, well, just about anything else in all of existence. Still, offense truly wasn't her specialty, despite the years she'd lived, and the timid Aasimar merely nodded slightly as she listened. She wasn't planning to take the lead, but she was ready to advance along with the others... though she did look at Alevia for a few moments, noting the sad expression on her face. "...The gods watch over everyone." she said quietly. Anevia could interpret that however she wished; knowing they were approaching some danger, Sana quietly faced ahead, just to be careful and keep watch for trouble.

Anevioa smiles at the compliment and bows her head in gratitude at the dawrf's kind comments.

With the mongrel people clearly scared of the spore-beast, they volunteer to protect the NPCs and let the party go forward. Goron leads the party into the cavern, where he sees with his darkvision that the tunnel opens into a circular cavern. Thick sheets of fungus grow in the cave. What appear to be two dead bodies lie on the ground in the middle of the cave, next to a strange heap of ropy green fungus. Weapons are lying close to the bodies and much blood is everywhere.

I've yet risked my life in battle against a plant. I'm sure many a druid would chide me for my lack of imagination but this thing is quite disturbing to behold...

Levelle subconsciously urges Cao forward to follow the dwarf as Goron leads the group forward.
