Melchesiech |
In the long pause that follows the nod, Melchesiech looks around at the rest of the party. "Please, do as he says. We are best off treating with these people, and this is the only way."
Kevril Silverkin |
Kevril shows a bow and his axe the only weapons he has on him currently. "I command no magic so I doubt you should worry about that. Peacebond these if you would."
nightdeath |
The doors are opened.
Beyond the stone door lies the settlement of Neathholm.
A small, dark lake ripples in the center of this two-hundred foot- wide cavern, the walls and ceiling aglow with thick sheets of luminescent fungi. In the center of the lake, over two dozen low stone buildings cluster on a rocky one-hundred-foot-wide island. Lights glow in the windows of the buildings, giving the settlement an almost welcoming look. Rafts made of mismatched planks of timber bob along the length of a crooked pier at the lake’s closest shore.
Lann and the rest leads you along the rough paved roads but it's obvious that the inhabitants are either shy or afraid of you. Some of the more nervous citizens retreat to their homes and barricade their doors in full view of the party and soon armed guards arrive and join your inpromptu procession.
The guards escort you to the largest building atop the island’s low central peak—this is the home of Chief Sull, a bloated and unpleasant-looking but mild-mannered mongrel with one clouded white eye.
Chief Sull listens to Lann’s report your part in successfully freeing the trapped Mongrelmen.
His voice is cultured and he speaks well as he turns to all of you and speaks.
"I must thank you for the fortunate circumstances that has brought you to Gar and his company's aid. It is certain Cern would have perished if not for you. For this I thank you."
He pauses a while and gestures for the guards to being in seats, roughly hewn stone that have being rounded and are surprisingly quite comfortable.
"Forgive me for being such a poor host. I am King Sull and I bid you welcome to Neathholm. Now...
E-Terah Deepheavy |
The dwarf maid relaxed in the stonehewn seat, practically lounging causally before the mongrelmen regeant. It had been a particularly tense series of events as of late and it was a rare opportunity to allow herself to uncoil.
She dipped her flared crest of hair for Chieftain Sull to continue, giving her undivided attention.
Daylen Valdrom |
Highly doubtful. I'd certainly not be wearing it. Unless one of the girls, or Horgus decided to throw it on.
Daylen does not sit, instead he bows and steps forward to speak to the king. "Good king, thank you for your hospitality, but I fear we bring you grim tidings. Demons have breached the wardstone above, and caused the cave-in's like the one that trapped your fellow, Cern. Our party was caught in the demons' initial attack and were trapped below. We seek a way to return to the surface to help drive back the demons. Any aid you could render would be greatly appreciated."
With that said, Daylen bowed once more, hoping that gestures of deference would not go amiss in this subterranean kingdom. His wit spent, he sat down, finally taking a rest since setting out from the strange temple they had rested in.
Kevril Silverkin |
I doubt I am, since I don't know what that is :P
Kevril bows then sits down, he doesn't have much to add to Daylen's explanation so awaits the King's reply.
Melchesiech |
In his usual flat tones, Melchesiech provides more details of the party's adventures underground. "We found only a little food and are running low. However, we also found some small valuables, so we can trade for supplies if necessary."
nightdeath |
"I'll have word sent out that should allow you all to do some trading in my modest town. Forgive me for being such a poor host. I am King Sull and I bid you welcome to Neathholm. Now pray tell, what brings you uplanders from above down to this world below? This news of Demons is alarming indeed. Please tell me everything from the beginning please."
nightdeath |
I take it as a no?
King Suli frowns at your news.
"Demons have overrunned the city above? That is ill news indeed. Despite being labelled freaks by you uplanders, my kin and I are decended from Noble stock. We may be outcasts and freaks but our
ancestors helped drive back the demons in the First Crusade. I would ask that you bring our message to the surface—that We mongrels will stand with the inhabitants of Kenabres to defend the city."
He pauses awhile.
"What you do seek is however guarded by a tribe of mongrels who do not have the same opinions as those of Neathholm. This smaller tribe, a group, 'the traitors,' have consorted for some time with cultists. I have ignored them for other pressing concerns but this shall not stand anymore.
I will have a small amount of supplies prepared for you should you accept."
Horgus is disgusted by Neathholm and can’t be away from the place quickly enough, but Anevia is intrigued by the possibility of recruiting the mongrels to aid the crusade.
Aravashnial is delighted to learn that there are entire societies of “mole people” and “pitlings” under the city, but his use of such phrases, even if unintentioned are insulting.
Melchesiech |
"Thank you for your kindness. This is what we have found; is any of it is of use or interest to you?" Melchesiech will show the king the non-coin items recovered by the party.
At some later point, the wizard will try to get a moment with Horgus. "Master Gwerm, you are being rude to our benefactors. Would you allow a customer's appearance to influence whether you traded with them?"
Sense Motive check: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20
E-Terah Deepheavy |
1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15Sense Motive
Sensing the mongrelmen's discomfort from Aravashnial's tactless comments, she gave the blind elf a pinch on his bum to gather his undivided attention. When he jumped and rounded on her,she reached up to haul him down to press her lips into his ear.
Mah apologies,Mister Aravashnial. But if'n you ain't notice, your use of the word molepeople an' pitlings is considered rather derogatory to our hosts.Like if I referred t' you as a knifeear or you referred t' me as a stuntie. Please refrain so we don't offend them and are forced to leave earlier than planned.
nightdeath |
Horgus makes to answer but shuts up considering Melchesiech's words as a businessman while E-Terah gains Aravashnial's complete attention. The elf has obviously noe being handled that way before.
King Sull nods at your words.
"Your words bring gladness to my heart. Rest for the I'll send word for a place for you to rest from your doubtless dangerous travels. My merchants will have their wares prepared should you need to resupply. The Traitor Tribe on the other hand I have no real idea of their numbers as they keep themselves well hidden and my scouts have indicated that there are robed humans along with them."

King Sull notices the Brooch and with a trembling hand and tears in his eyes asks for that brooch to be handed to him.
"That brooch!............... It used to belonged to one of my sons who left after a great quarrel between us. I held little hope that he'd return for I have had no news of him since he left. I gave his this brooch before he left and now seeing this I know that he perished. I must ask that you give this to me and in return I shall gift you a weapon passed down from my ancestor's time."
Upon being given the brooch, King Sull retrieves a beautifully crafted morningstar that sheds light and has the symbol of Iomedae upon its shaft. It's design is certainly ancient but looks as if it was freshly forged.
Morningstar +1
Daylen Valdrom |
Daylen graciously accepts the king's present in exchange for the trinket. With reverence, he says "We will put this weapon to good use, smiting the evil that caused his demise."
I don't really need a +1 Morningstar, does anyone else want it? Can we move on once everyone has leveled up? Also, should we make a list of things we want to sell here, or do they not buy our stuff?
nightdeath |
They'll buy your stuff and here you can rest up and level up.
nightdeath |
You are shown to your rest areas and given brief directions as to where the closest shops would be.
nightdeath |
The healers here look at Anevia's broken leg and most tsked about spells ready to heal it. They do commend all of you for a job well done in ensuring her leg doesn't suffer any further strain.
They change her bandages and apply a foul smelling stuff to deal with her discomfort before resplinting her leg. They also add some form of paste to prevent her leg from moving once it dries, they explain.
Melchesiech |
"I am sure that there is nothing you can do for Master Aravashnial." Melchesiech will also ask after more information on how long the mongrelmen estimate it will take to reach the surface, then buy more rations for himself and the trio of refugees with the party. The purchases completed, he sets his pack in place. "Come, then. It is time we left. Thank you for your hospitality."
nightdeath |
They shake their heads at Melchesiech's questions, their skills limited to patching up minor wounds.
Nothing in their skills to restore sight to Aravashnial.
The party purchases new supplies and after a good night's rest are ready to proceed onwards.
