DMPCing Shulme
Shulme one hands his spear, drawing out his heavy mace and striking the elemental he flanks with Gwyn.
Price summons a hellish blessing onto the villains, only the undead servant unaffected.
Xanos throws a net at the triton caster, entangling the creature like the half fish it is. The creature only minimally struggles against it's bond, instead focusing on maintaing it's spell.
The southern triton summons another elemental creature, then switches tactics, beginning to heal itself of it's wounds.
The boat's moving closer together, Odenkirk's men switch back to melee weapons, leaning over the side of the boat and shoving their swords into the water at the tritons. This proves to be more effective for them, combined with the hellish blessing.
Kalina is up.

Kalina deals two wounds to the elemental in front of her, though estimating the damage is difficult due to the creature's nature. It still stands at this point.
The triton summons another elemental of water behind Gwyn, and the two working in concert push the poor rogue over the side of the ship and into the water. (Gwyn, you get an AoO if you choose to take it on WE15). The Triton then proceeds to swim under the boats, healing one of the wounded tritons from below the depths.
Cain is once again attempted to be pushed. (Cain, same on WE14.)
(The dolphins go now because of this. All but D1/D2 provoked, so if you have combat reflexes, you can take as many AoO as you choose on them with a successful DC10 swim check. Two attacks hit for 2 damage each.) The dolphins, sensing Gwyn's fall into the depths, move to engage the rogue in a frenzy not natural to their species.
Fargo and his frog gang up on one of the elementals while Odenkirk charges another. Both of the beings are sent back from whence they were summoned.
More to come momentarily.

Swim: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23

Gwyn doesn't have much time to do anything more than squeak as she flips over the side and into the chilly water. More worried about getting out of the water and back onto the ship, she sheathes her knives and tries her best to dodge the frenzied attacks. She gets scraped a couple of times, but it could have been worse. She swims up to the side of the boat and tries to pull her self out of the water.
*koff koff* "A little help please!"
Xanos |
Getting Gwyn was going to be my revised action anyway. :)
Xanos reaches down and clasps Gwyn's wrist, hauling her easily out of the water as if she were nearly weightless and setting her on her feet again.
"Breathing is a troublesome vice. You may want to see about breaking that particular addiction if you have trouble staying out of the water."
Gwyn's entire body weight plus gear and soaking wet is still only a medium load for Xanos. :)
King Markadian V |
As Gwyn attempts to climb out of the ocean and back into the boat, the dolphins continue their persistent assault on the poor rogue, beating at her with their snouts. The continued bashing takes it's toll. (2 hits for 7 damage total.)

The battle continues on, Gwyn climbing desparately back aboard the ship with the aid of Xanos. As this happens, Xanos slave hauls the triton on board the ship, Shulme attempting to impale the creature as it's brought aboard.
Cain's target summons a rejuvenating force as two more arrows fly by it. one strikes the water and bounces off it's coral suit, a hit diverted by the last minute barrier. Both attacks missed.

King Markadian V |
Entangled gives a -4 dex penalty but does not deny dexterity to AC, so no sneak attack from that method. I moved people around on the map abit to help make things clearer.
Through much bashing/stabbing/impaling/dazing in concert, the triton caster is thoroughly beaten, stabed, impaled and dazed. In the end, this leaves the fish man within an inch of death, barely staying conscious. "Grooaaannn."
The triton to the south calls out to his men in a strange rolling language.
Suddenly he calls out as his mind becomes clouded and blurred, unable to focus as Price's spell takes hold, dazing him. Meanwhile Cain sends two arrows into the Triton in front of the caster, wounding him deeply though not enough to incapacitate.
As far as the cover goes, anything in the water being shot at by something above the water gets cover. So effectively each triton is getting a +4 to AC from attacks from the boat. They can actually dive and get +8 as well, but then they can't fire back.

Those near the entangled triton stand to watch a vile yet beautiful sight as the fish man is not so much eviscerated as he is filleted by Kalina's swordplay. Even the creature's coral shell is cracked open like that of a lobster to get to the gooey insides. The only blemish in this scene is that of the triton's eyes, filled with hate as his final breath leaves him to pass on to the next world. (He's dead, Jim. And his armor is fragile so that confirmed crit did indeed give it the broken condition.)
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITION: Dim Light. Everything has 20% concealment without darkvision or a light source. There is a bullseye lantern at the front of each boat to guide them. This is negated within 60' of Price from her Daylight spell.

Xanos |
As the light and the hate fades from the triton's eyes, Xanos grabs the net and turns it to look into them.
"Consequences. Every choice has them. I did try to help you avoid them. Tell your goddess I will come for her in time."
Captain Kargeld Odenkirk |
Fargo sends a bolt of pure acid at one of the triton's, the blow striking the creature in the face. Screaming in pain, he desperately washes away the scalding acid in the ocean, but not before his face is horrifically scarred.
Meanwhile his frog pulls the dolphin he's grasped onto the boat deck itself, the fish (Yea, I know, not quite a fish) flopping about seeking the water.
Odenkirk heads to the deck, taking a shot with the bow claimed from his injured man. "Begone from my boat!" He sends an arrow flying into the depths.

The triton assault continues. One of Odenkirk's men takes two bolts, one plunging into his side while the other into his neck. The man's fate looks grim.
The two men guarding the rope holders take their shots as a triton emerges, their arrows going wide while one takes a bolt in the chest, the force throwing him back as he falls to the deck.
Even Odenkirk takes a bolt, though he merely pulls it out and throws it back with a scream.
Onto Round 8.

A terse Aklo word of command from Shulme once again stems the flow of blood from Gwyn's wounds. The sorcerer glances around, assessing the battle, and moves towards the other boat where disabled and dying sailors litter the deck.

Gwyn looks around the boat for a crossbow, or anything else that she could use to get at the Tritons in the water as she sheathes her knives.

Price slides next to Cain and pulls a vial from her bodice. She lobs it in a high arc towards the cluster of Tritons. Flames dance across the dazed spellcaster as the vial shatters against his skull. Price grins, satisfied with her throw and the ensuing chaos. "I love a fish fry, don't you?"

King Markadian V |
Shulme heals some of Gwyn's wounds as the rogue looks about for another weapon. She does manage to find a shortbow similar to the ones used by all of Odenkirk's men.
The triton leader is unable to act, in a daze.
Odenkirk's men take up bows once again against the tritons, while one man attempts to bandage another's wounds.
