Price |
Back in the coffin room, to Cain's previously mouthed words, Price speculates, "Balin's son most likely, if Timeon wasn't lying. It seems he's being offered as a reward for hard work... unless it's a trap." She considers this for a moment. "If he's an honest reward, what are we being rewarded for? I have to wonder if the Screamer room has another exit - one that leads towards the necklace. Then, on our way back, we're meant to polish off Balin's son. It seems strange to me that we can approach the Screaming room from two directions."
Cain, the beast! |
Cain nods at Price's thoughts. He'd always had a certain low cunning, but his ability to actually think things through had never been nearly as strong as hers. It was something he'd begun to respect in Xanos as well… time will tell.
His mind snaps back to the present.
… Price's thoughts …
"That pretty much just makes me want to hit this room first. Not really interested in doin' things the way we're supposed to." He grins a hungry grin, "Gotta admit I'm itchin' to spill some of Balin's blood…. even if it's spilt from his welp."
Price |
With a delicate wave of her hand, Price offers the men the corridor with a smile. "Oh, I see no profit in running through this rat's maze as expected... and what sort of genteel lady would I be to deny you fine gentlemen a chance at vengeance? Just leave me a small piece, if you'd be so kind."
Gwyndolin Maulsen |
"He's in armor, really heavy armor from the sound of it. If you don't mind lettin' poor wittle me get first stab at him, I can make things easier. Who's up for being sneaky?"
The fear and unease from the last fight is evaporated by the prospect of facing a much more familiar opponent. Even the rosy aroma from the last undead thing isn't doing anything to dampen her playful mood.
Cain, the beast! |
"I'm in. I'll open the door... you do your thing." Giving the team one last opportunity to make any final preparations, Cain stalks up to the door. He gives Gwyn enough time to get into position and ready before taking the key from the wall and -- as quietly as possible -- opens the door.
Perception (for any change since we listened last) 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (13) + 8 = 21
Stealth 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (13) + 8 = 21.
Sir Eldon |
The door opens to reveal a man, a tabard bearing the symbol of a Knight of the Alerion Order. Attired in full plate mail, bearing a longsword in one hand, a heavy shield in the other, dangling from his neck is a fantastic holy symbol to Iomedae, composed of silver and sapphire.
Seeing him dressed in full armor and attire, the resemblance to Sir Balin is quite visible in his face, his features, his stature.
As the door is opened, he takes one look upon your group, hate burning in his eyes as he recognizes several amongst you. "In the name of Iomedae and the Knights of the Alerion Order, I demand the lot of you throw down your arms and surrender immediately. Foolishness in resistance will be met with steel!" There is no jest as he speaks.

Gwyn moves up beside Cain. The little theif isn't as quiet, with her constant attempts to suppress the giggles trying to get out, but still quieter than a man in clanking armor. When Cain opens the door Gwyn slides inside to attack the man.

Well, King Mark, I'm going to leave the description of what happened up to you.
Edit: IS it okay if I retcon this? Since it looks like we get no surprise round.
Gwyndolin Maulsen |
Check the Discussion thread if you haven't. Anyway, here's Gwyn's first actions after the door is opened.
Gwyn's eyes light up with hope and the slip of a thief rushes forward as tears brim her eyes.
"Save me! They're said they'd kill me if I didn't help!"
Of course, this is all a ruse.
Bluff: 1d20 + 8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 8 + 1 = 13 -1 for 12 if Charming is not in effect. Here's hoping his WIS is dumped.
Cain, the beast! |
Recognition slams home, and a snarl rips the air. There's no hesitation as the bow clatters to the ground -- the beast already circling around the south side of the room, coming at his prey's flank as his great falchion finds its way into his hands. Getting into position, the wolf lunges at the armored Iomedaen, teeth grasping at the man's leg in an attempt to drop him to the ground.
IT'S ON!
FREE: Drop bow in initial square
MOVE: Circle around to AB6, moving so as to avoid AoO's (though the Iomedaen hasn't gone yet, so it shouldn't be a problem), drawing the falchion on the move.

Xanos |
Xanos simply raises his eyebrows and laughs a low chuckle of amused disbelief.
Witha roll of his eyes he waves a hand towards the knight.
Daze. Not worth trying a real spell on a Paladin. He'll probably make the save.
"Kill him." he says flatly to the undead creature beside him.
Slave of the Spiral |
The damp shambling creature lunges to homicidal life, surging forward with all the finesse of a crazed dog unchained by it's master.
Greataxe, Charge: 1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 5 + 2 = 13

Even resolving against a Prone target, I don't think that's going to do it :(
Gwyndolin Maulsen |
For flavor, and because Gwyn is honestly terrified of that thing.
At the unnatural growl from behind, Gwyn takes a quick glance behind, and doesn't have to fake the fear any longer and her eyes go even wider as the undead monster charges forward to attack the knight.
"It's gonna kill me. It's gonna kill me as dead as it is..."
King Markadian V |
Gwyn comes barreling into the room, startling Sir Eldon as he stares down at the girl. Following behind her is the giant form of the fused summoner. Bringing his sword up to defend, Teon quickly wrests control from him, taking the blade away. As he does Cain moves in behind, knocking the Knight's feet out from under him, dropping him to the ground. Finally Xanos attempts to cloud the knights mind, failing to penetrate his iron mind. Xanos's controlled pet moves into the room at his command.
Figuring Teon's CMB, I'm getting 13 (Dice) + 6 (CMB) + 1 (Size Increase) + 2 (Flank) = 22 (Total).

Sorry for the delay. I was waiting to see if we polished him off before my turn.
Price strides into the room, her own response a mocking parody of his challenge, "In the name of feckless Iomedae and her Misguided Knights, I demand the lot of you throw down... Oh, I see you've already lost your arms and prostrated yourself. That's convenient. What was the rest of that bit? Right! Foolishness in resistance will be met with steel. In your case, by all means - resist. But we'll greet it with steel, claw, and spell." Her voice rises to a blasting ultrasonic screech that pounds at the warrior's ears alone.

King Markadian V |
Price calls forth a painful noise in the ears of the fallen knight, causing them to begin bleeding slightly. But the effect, while painful, does not stop him.
The knight stands, provoking attacks from Cain, Teon, Shulme, and the Draugr. The rest only happens if he survives those attacks.
Using his shield as a weapon, he steps into the range of the spear and attacks the fused form of Teon, striking him from an incredible blow (Teon takes 17 damage), then proceeds to follow through, cleaving into Shulme and striking him as well (Shulme takes 15 damage). "Maid, quickly while I hold them attempt to escape. I shall bring down these curs, even if it costs me my life!"
Grumblejack enters into the room, bringing his own weapon to bear against the knight, but failing to connect. "Smash metal little 'un!"

Sir Eldon |
As Sir Eldon makes to rise, our villains lay into him. Shulme digs his spear deeper into his should, but Sir Eldon grabs at it, pushing him away. Teon comes in, digging into the same shoudler with his fangs, causing obvious pain to the knight. He brings up his shield to smash it into the area of Teon's neck when the Draugr commanded by Xanos comes in with it's axe causing the knight to pull back, a deep gash as the plate armor buckles underneath the force of the strike. His akward twist opens his back up to Cain, the advantage given and his Falchion digs deep into his back, opening yet another wound. The knight is still not fallen, preparing to launch his own attack, yet sluggish from blood loss as Shulme comes back in with his spear, penetrating the opend gash in Sir Eldon's armor, who finally succumbs to his wounds. The knight falls to the ground, bleeding.
Hope you don't mind me taking a few liberties with the descriptive post there.
Cain, the beast! |
Heal 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10. Eesh.. skin o'my teeth.
Cain's growl quiets to a low constant rumble, even as he dips his nose close to the unconscious knight's wounds. "Still alive."
He plants a foot on the man's chest on the off-chance that there are some surprises left in him, "Now we're even, whelp. But don't worry, your da'll be comin' soon." He lets the blood run off his falchion onto the knight's face as he waits to see if any of his teammates want anything else from the fallen knight.
Do I even need to make a roll to grapple/pin an unconscious man, Mark?
And I say we off him.
Price |
She shakes her head and gives Shulme a sideways look. "Not really... He infiltrated and betrayed my church cell. Then his father finished the job." She regards Eldon again, "I was just giving him a name to take with him on the road to Hell or to share with Iomedae."

Xanos |
Xanos looked at the fallen knight, considering. Once the others had stripped the knight of his possessions and begun the process of dividing things up, Xanos drew Backerly's sword, lifted the knight's arm and took three hard chops to sever the dead man's hand at the wrist.
"Indeed Teon, it exists now only to serve."
Turning to the undead, he said "Obey each of these people as if they were me, placing only orders from my lips above theirs."
Looking back to Teon, Xanos gave a thin lipped smile. "Do with it what you will."
