Alazandaru Viorec |
Three men? There was only one left. I keep getting the impression that I want some of whatever Avrandes is smoking xD. Try using the latest version of Firefox for the maps, works 100% for me. IE is usually problematic on a lot of Google apps.
Morthos "the Malevolent" |
Morthos looks to Bostarg, "Dogs? That's gonna make things a bit more... interesting." Morthos ponders how they might deal with this new bit of information. Turning his attention to the ogre, "Grumblejack, the 'little 'un's' have dogs and they will use them against you. Kill them just as you would the 'little 'un's'." Morthos rolls his eyes, "Oh how I hate that term." He sighs.
Grumblejack |
"Grumblejack will go smash dogs." With that the ogre heads to the outside and, seeing the cage with the dogs in it, proceeds to head in that direction. The dogs have indeed begun to bark at the ogre. "Dogs in cage. Open and smash?"
Outside the prison, a stone path travels around a fountain upon which stands a statue of Iomedae, sword pointing towards the prison. An inscription upon the statue reads 'Let Justice be Done'. The stone path ends in the large gate that is the entrance to Branderscar prison. Walls surround the prison from your vantage point. At present you see no guards in sight, an unusual fact. The only current source of activity are the barking dogs, their attention focused on Grumblejack.
Random Fate: 1d8 ⇒ 8
I've put up a slightly different background map to account for outside. If anyone isn't happy with their position, feel free to move it.
Morthos "the Malevolent" |
"No, Grumblejack, do not open the cage. Hold on a moment, Grumblejack." He holds his hand up making sure he understands to stop. Turning to the others, "I do not like this. It is an obvious ambush." With that last statement, Morthos loses himself in thought, then, "Of course, I could be giving them too much credit." He says as an aside. "Nevertheless, if there are no guards, I say we move toward the entrance and see what it will entail to make our way past it."
Avrandes Ghael |
This truly is a general's plan. But we are where we are. We go forward and meet the ambush, or we find another way out, which seems unlikely. The alternative is we find whether the guard knew about the ambush.
The pirate says all this very quickly, then adds Are there stables to go through?
King Markadian V |
A quick visual search of the area determines no sign of any stable that can be located.
A pair of prisoners can be sighted leaving the tower to the northwest. They appear to be in a rather heated discussion at present and apparently have not yet seen the ogre, tough it's only a matter of time.
Beatrix the Fallen |
Bea pulls a chain shirt off one of the guards, pulling it over her head before picking up a longsword and shield. Feeling a bit more confident now, she peeks outside, and nods at Bostarg's comment. "I see them, up on the wall."
1d20 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 1 = 19 - perception
Morthos "the Malevolent" |
"Well done, the both of you. I saw nothing. To be left unguarded would be far too easy and little challenge." Morthos gives a meager attempt in trying to spot them. Realizing he can't do anything about them at this time, even if he could see them, "Well, we cannot stay here all day. We either move towards the gate in an attempt to see if we can make our way out, or, do any of you have another idea in how we should go about it?" He looks at them all in turn, wondering if any of them might.
Morthos "the Malevolent" |
"Well, I could try shooting them but I don't trust my skill with a bow nearly as much as a blade. You see any way we could get up to that wall?"
"No. I would expect we would only be wasting arrows if they happen to be too far. And climbing the wall would only paint targets upon us for their archers." Listening to Haruk, Morthos nods. "Yes. Let us make for the gate and see what we need to escape this injustice."
I say we go to the gate and see if we can find a way to open it, bypass it, whatever.
Alazandaru Viorec |
We passed several other rooms- we could be better prepared for our escape if any of them happened to be a storeroom for equipment. Alazandaru pointed out. Seeing some indecision at the front door, he muttered back soon... and opened the door leading west.
Door into room 12 please. Its right by the party so if anything does go down, I won't be far away.

Alazandaru Viorec |
Alazandaru emerged from the side room with a crossbow and quickly loads it. He also has a new heavy mace strapped to his belt.
Plenty of weapons and armour in there- arm yourselves he said, and someone get that Ogre back inside before he is spotted.
See the last spoiler with my name on it for the contents of the room. I think everyone can benefit in some way from it :). In particular, a greatsword, masterwork quarterstaff (we should take this even if no one uses it) and a Glaive.
Morthos "the Malevolent" |
Morthos looks on with interest as Alazandaru mentions the rooms contents. Quickly turning and calling to the ogre, "Grumblejack! Come back inside a moment. I believe we may have a weapon for you that is a bit more useful than that table you carry."
Alazandaru Viorec |
I think that would be a logical plan. Alazandaru answered carefully. No matter how careful we are, there is little doubt we will eventually run into more guards. We'd best be prepared.
GM, I assume crossbow is a light rather than a heavy?
Beatrix the Fallen |
Bea ducks into the room and smiles broadly at the stockpile. She spots the greatsword, and ditching her current sword and shield, picks it up, weighing it in her hands as she tests a few swings.
Any mechanical penalty?
Her eyes rest on the guards uniforms and she pauses for a moment. "The big brute aside...you think we could all just walk out of here if we put on those uniforms and acted like we owned the place? Maybe while he makes a distraction we could slip out."
Morthos "the Malevolent" |
Morthos thinking along the same lines, "I wondered that as well, Beatrix. But I believe our small companion here," he motions to Bostarg, "might stand out a bit with an oversized uniform. Which, in an of itself, would more than likely draw a fair amount of attention our way."
Morthos "the Malevolent" |
Morthos rubs his chin, pondering such a plan. "I believe the lady has come up with what sounds like a clever idea. It should be quite a useful disguise at a distance. Of course, if they come to close, well, we will deal with that as necessary when/if the time comes." He grins wickedly. Turning to the gnome, "What say you, Bostarg?" He asks as he grabs one of the longbows along with a score of arrows.
Bostarg Halvardonwine |
Stroking his chin a moment in pause before shrugging, Bostarg finds the smallest of the guard uniforms he can and dons it. Once he is garbed, he mumbles in gnomish as he smooths out the folds and bunches in the fabric. When he stops he seems slightly larger in all proportions. Taking a critical eye he shrugs and states "It will do one supposes."
Disguise: 1d20 + 11 + 10 ⇒ (18) + 11 + 10 = 39 I'm assuming some fairly hefty penalties to appear human ish, as the disguise self spell only allows for 1 ft taller.
Morthos "the Malevolent" |
Morthos looks genuinely impressed. "Impressive. It appears you have quite a talent. Very well," he then turns to the others, "let us become guards for the time being. At least until they figure out that we are not what we seem." Morthos then dons a guard uniform himself.
Alazandaru Viorec |
Alazandaru was a little more sceptical about the plan but he saw no harm in trying it. He donned his disguise with a degree of expertise despite the fact that such a skill had never been one that Sir Balin had insisted he add to his repertoire.
1d20 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 1 = 20 Disguise
We should quickly search the other rooms in this building before we move outside he added. Perhaps they will even be as helpful as this one. If an alarm had been raised, we'd be seeing its effects by now.
GM, all the extra chain shirts and longbows etc. come up to quite a large sum of money which Alazandaru is reluctant to leave behind (hes sure the group will need cash as ex-cons). As we are without sacks/backpacks etc., are you comfortable with us taking them or does it stretch verisimilitude? We easily have the carrying capacity between us to take them without anyone going into a medium load.
