Mara Bun Bun |
Mara hops up to the horse, bearing his tiny, sharp, pointy teeth, his eyes glowing with darkness and evil. As the woman steps from her horse to lock the gate behind tawner Or stays on? I wasn't sure there he launches himself from the grass to bite the horse's leg!
Stealth: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (2) + 10 = 12
bite: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Failing to even bite the horse, the rabbit starts growling at the thing, bouncing around and making a ruckus, trying to startle the horse into running.
Dangit bunny, I don't have a plan C!

Black Maiden |
The Black maiden growls.
WHO ATTACKS A RABBIT?!
Leaving the tapestry behind she steps out, drawing her blade and looking rather... upset as Mara tries to run to between her feet. Her black eyes glare at the horse who dare injure her rabbit.
intimidate: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (3) + 11 = 14
Move action draw weapon, Standard action intimidate on the horse.
Tawner Kelenfold |
Was that a neighing? Can't be sure.
Tawner decides to investigate anyway. He heads to one side of the metal fence and attempts to climb it. He stores his shield to do so.
climb + arm chk pen and dex pen: 1d20 - 5 ⇒ (2) - 5 = -3
He falls to the ground and silently curses the fence.
Lady Rhiannon |
Dominic steps out of the doorway. "Ok, I'm pretty sure she's not going to stand for that. Who are you? What are you doing here?"
"Ai could ask you zee samé."
The Black maiden growls.

The horse does not seem to notice the implied threat, but his rider does.
"Ai do. Zat 'aré must die."
Was that 'I do' or 'adieu'? The Black Maiden is not certain. As she crosses the field and reaches for her weapon the woman fires her crossbow, and puts a bolt in the tomb's door frame.
crossbow v Black Maiden: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5 damage: 1d8 ⇒ 6
And there. Now she is an actual 'woman in black'.

"WHO DARES DISTURBS THE HOUSE OF TULLIVOR - AND CRASH OUR *EXCLUSIVE* HOUSE PARTY?!?" Booms a dark wraith emerging theatrically from the crypt!
Intimidate Lady Rhiannon: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12 Admittedly, it's kind of a Bluff/Intimidate hybrid I'm going for here.
f*@&it, folio reroll: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22
Lydia Stillbourne |
While she's never been very good at it, Lydia's always had a curious instinct for frightening the weak-willed. It's certainly helped her a time or two. She tries it now....
I use my doom spell-like ability (DC 10) on the horse.
Just to be clear about my intentions, we are presently attempting to scare them away rather than fight them.

Is Fomalhaut going for the shaken (inflict the shaken condition on the woman) or stirred (do what I say or it will go badly for you) version of intimidate? The former is a standard action, the latter is a minute's worth (minimally) of banter that won't happen if a fight breaks out immediately.
Zephyr's will save: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 1 = 16
Lady Rhiannon |
Whether it is due to her own feelings, the obvious compromising situation she finds the party in, or the threat posed by the brutish lagomorph to the lawn and it's dangerous-looking, weapon-wielding master to herself, the horsewoman wheels about, moving deeper into the cemetery while reloading her crossbow.
"If you weehl not leave Ai weehl be fairced to usé dead-lee fairce."
Lydia Stillbourne |
Lydia tries her trick against Lady Rhiannon. The lady does seem reasonably headstrong, but sometimes, it works nonetheless....
Doom SLA, DC 10.
Black Maiden |
The black maiden growls.
We'll be happy to leave. Team! Grab what we came here for, let the the woman with the arrows deal with the ghost.
She gives Fomalhaut a intentional look and does not move from her spot.
intimidate aid another?: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (6) + 11 = 17
Lady Rhiannon |
will save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17
The woman's self-entitled arrogance seems to insulate her from magical harm.
"We'll be happy to leave. Team! Grab what we came here for, let the the woman with the arrows deal with the ghost."
"HA! Zen you found eet? Such clévair lit-tell grave robbairs! Eet belongs to mon family! Give eet to mé now!"
Intimidating the woman in black into doing what you want is currently not a viable option (it takes minimally a minute to accomplish). For whatever reason, she seems intent upon combat now. This might be for any number of reasons, but drawing a weapon and/or casting spells on her and her mount are perhaps the most obvious. So go ahead and restate if you'd like Black Maiden.
Black Maiden |
Okay, thanks, sometimes it's hard to tell.
The Black Maiden clangs her weapon against her shield a few times grinning maniacally.
Fine, you want to dance? Let's dance... Mara's hungry anyways.
The Black Maiden steps forward, her shield up, ready for another crossbow shot.
Full defense action instead.

Lydia advances on the horsewoman and beckons the ambient lost souls to shield her.
Fomalhaut double-moves.
Tawner Kelenfold |
"At least no one saw that," Tawner mutters to himself as he dusts off the street from his mantle.
He stands up. from prone Sighs. And prepares to face his enemy: a fence.

GM heads up it might be a good idea to reread some or all of this encounter's posted information. Just sayin'. Now back to our regularly scheduled slaughter.
Black Maiden |
The black maiden blinks.
Grail? What grail? We don't have any grail?
Suddenly, her mind flashes.
HEY! WAIT A MINUTE!
She steps out, shield still at the ready but her weapon hanging loose.
You said a Grail? Like a cup? Maybe one made of Platinum? Are you... Are you a Sarvios? We don't have your cup, but I might know where it is! Lower your weapon, and nobody needs to get hurt! Maybe we can even figure out a deal for your Grail!

"Oh non mon dair, Ai think zumone does need to be 'urt. 'urt reahl bad."
The World's Most Interesting GM |
She seems well past the 'listening stage'. You might get her to listen if you can restrain her somehow.
Dominic Radzi |
Dominic races across the cemetery, finally taking cover against one of the mausoleums. "You're Rhiannon Sarvios? Did you kill that man, the Tullivor, to continue your petty feud?"
Double Move
Black Maiden |
Drat. Oh well.
Black maiden grips her weapon and dashes forward.
I gave you your chance.
She rushes up behind the woman, hoping to box her in.
Drat, just outside striking range. Move action and standard action for full defense.
Lady Rhiannon |
Lydiabot and Fomalhautbot rush to catch up to the action.
Tawnerbot considers climbing the fence again but receives a divine dope slap of inspiration and instead unlatches the gate and enters the cemetery again.
Lady Rhiannon fires her crossbow at the Black Maiden striking her in the shoulder. Then she rides off again laughing.

Dominic rolls his eyes as the woman rides away from them again. "Fine, don't complain about the dishonorable tactics then." He moves towards the woman, but focuses his concentration on the horse instead.
Cast Daze on the horse. Will DC 13 or lose his action.
Lydia Stillbourne |
Wait, WTF? How did I miss my...? Oh well.
Lydia and Fomalhaut move to intercept the horsewoman.
Another double-move.
Tawner Kelenfold |
LOL! Thanks for the slap. :) Tawner's not too bright, but at least this time he can blame his muse (JTDV) for thinking Lady Rhiannon "Locked" the gate, not "Latched" it.
Tawner heads straight for the centrally located statue to present himself as another target. double-move and map updated

Zephyr will: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 1 = 21 Now that is a good horse!
Rhiannon wheels and spurs her white charger again.
Dominic has the opportunity (if he likes) for an attack of opportunity when they pass.

Dominic has a look of utter rage as the horse shrugs off his spell. He whirls his whip and lashes out at the beast when it comes by. "Maybe after all this is through, we'll be making a trip to the sausage maker!"
AOO: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22
Damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Double move. Dominic's AC is still 20 with Shield.
Tawner Kelenfold |
Tawner pulls his shield off of his backpack and readies it on his shield hand. With his free hand, he grips the inornate symbol hanging from his neck.
At least I'm not climbing or swimming!
Is anyone hurt? Tawner yells out as the skirmish carries on.

Silly me! I thought Dominic had a REAL weapon in hand. I keep forgetting he's the whip guy. Whips do not threaten areas therefore there's no AoO. I'm tempted to just let him have it though. If I did, Zephyr the wonder horse would get the opportunity to clobber Dominic first for pulling his whip hand back to strike him. I'll let you decide. It was partly my bad for forgetting after all.
The whip is treated as a melee weapon with 15-foot reach, though you don’t threaten the area into which you can make an attack. In addition, unlike most other weapons with reach, you can use it against foes anywhere within your reach (including adjacent foes).
Using a whip provokes an attack of opportunity, just as if you had used a ranged weapon.

Getting real sick of this nonsense.... just gonna take the stupid tapestry and leave at this rate...
Seriously, I do not have the mobility to touch this woman, Black Maiden is just gonna grab the tapestry and run at this point.
Lydia Stillbourne |
Lydia hears Black Maiden's grumblings, and shrugs. "We could do that...."
She makes her way north while keeping her eye on the horsewoman.
Ready an action to daze the horse (DC 14) if it comes into range.
Fomalhaut |
"But...Lydia...she's dying to stick around, remember...?"
ready action to slam horse or rider (preferably rider) if they approach: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19

Sighing, Tawner draws his sword. He makes some clicking noises that he used to make when working with his father's horses, Tangle and Mangle, on the farm.
He then calls out, "Lady of the grave. I'm sober! Come find out."
