With Strange Aeons Even Death May Die

Game Master Synxol

We each dwell upon an island forged by our ignorance amidst the black seas of infinity. Should your feeble mind correlate the seemingly disassociated contents of your skull, thus affording you an opportunity to leave your island behind, terrifying vistas of reality will entomb you and you will never know peace.

It was only a matter of time...every species can smell its own extinction. The last ones left won't have a pretty time of it.

Dandelion (Half-Orc Oracle of Nature)

That sucks. I've done it, and I don't like it.

btw, Dandelion's init is now actually +4. And, he's dead. Like the others.

+23 on visual Perception.

Yeah, I've done it too, far too many times for my liking.

Damn, the rogue is at + 31 to perception. He puts Sherlock to shame

I have to post this one, just because Mike will find it funny

Happy Canada Day!

Dandelion (Half-Orc Oracle of Nature)

First one was blocked, but the second one was... interesting...

Ima be in Edmonton tomorrow, just for less than 24 hours.

Sorry if my posting is slow, I'm traveling all around and stuff.

Yeah, that's what I found funny. It' s a Canadian song, really only interesting to Canadians (and possibly not even them), but it's blocked so that only people in the States can see it.

No worries about the posting, have fun in Deadmonton...I lived there once upon a time.

Well at least someone will enjoy Canada Day, for those of us that live in the US Happy July fourth!

Cthulhu-Spawn DM/crazy person

Happy 4th!

Now, onto gaming matters.

So, Grendel's thoughts are on helping the paladin, hitting her with Endure Elements / Energy Resistance and snagging a couple of holy items and bam! we have another ally in our quest to close the portal!

Of course, he doesn't know that it is the paladin, and just thinks it's some Cal knows, or soomebody with information.

Thoughts?

Male Half-Orc bard

Better plan then what I was going to do which, is mercy killing her and perhaps that would close the portal.

Argon hates churches now, but he will do a 180 on that before he reaches adulthood. Just as we'll need our children to be shaped into our characters' adult selves.

For now, should we update the sheets with the "young" template? I assume we don't have any class skills either...

Xthian Shadowcaster Conjurer / Gestalt Druid

There's some fluidity in character sheets as it's an organic process.

If you find that the character makes some turns you had not expected, or simply decisions you had made during character generation don't appear to make sense with the perspective of play, feel free to make the minor changes on the fly.

Xthian Shadowcaster Conjurer / Gestalt Druid

Love this and a great read for everyone

Male Argon Gestalt Slayer-Cleric 12

Russ, are you going to introduce your character at some point? Maybe when we meet each other?

It would be good to get to know him!

Cthulhu-Spawn DM/crazy person

Yeah, I was aiming to do that when I get everybody together.

And sorry about the late post, didn't mean to hold us up.

Also, Loki, thanks for that link :)

Cthulhu-Spawn DM/crazy person

Oh, EJB throw me a Perception check in your next post.

Cthulhu-Spawn DM/crazy person

BTW, I hope you guys enjoying the game so far. I know I'm being a little heavy handed as I attempt to get you guys together. I'm trying to avoid a cheesy "and thus they where all together" thing. Plus, I'm kinda erasing the last vestiges of a childhood in any of the characters. Something to begin their first steps towards their chosen classes.

Xthian Shadowcaster Conjurer / Gestalt Druid

I am enjoying it : )

Male Argon Gestalt Slayer-Cleric 12

Yes, so far so great!

I'm so proud of myself. I've almost gotten the party together and I haven't killed anybody yet!

Now if I can get the part together before the weekend is out, I'll be all sorts of awesome.

Yes, my ego is totally out of control :P

Okay, so super big favor from you guys. When you post and characters are talking, would you mind making it bold? My eyes are getting a bit worse and it's kinda hard to see it when reading from my phone. It helps make a bit of a contrast making it easier for me to read, if that makes any sense.

Surely.

It might be a bit of an issue to format on my EyeFon, but everything that comes from a computer box will bolded.

There is, it's just even typing on my lil keyboard feels like a giant trying to split the atom with its fingernails. It's possible, but there is profanity.

lol, pass, thanks!

I'll just squint more, it'll be fine. One day, I'll get a larger screened phone, and it will be moot.

Hello all,

Thank you for being patient. I shall post a backstory tomorrow after work. Where should I post it?

Dorian "Grey" wrote:

Backstory is something that will be developed with those provided character-generation questions that you keep private for now. During play they'll slowly come out more than likely.

Fine-toothed combing, this will seem overly picky (it is), but it will make easy for the multiple DMs...

  • If you're 12 as a level 0 character, then you'll be 20 at the start of play (the level 0 character should not be reflected in the Myth-Weavers' character sheet to make life easy on the multiple DMs)
  • Need a family heirloom
  • Needs 1 Hero Point (find the box under CHA on page 1)
  • Need a character picture for Myth-Weavers
  • Needs Hit Dice
  • It doesn't look like you're getting credit for your Deft Dodger trait for your Reflex save
  • Needs weapon and armour proficiencies listed
  • Please note somewhere that your favoured class bonus is going to Hit Points
  • Your two languages do not appear to be listed (bottom of page 2)

Otherwise it looks great! I'm really interested in how a vamp became a monk honestly.

Give us a heads up when you've done the character generation questions, description (of your adult self) and disposition. Have a child description ready as well, and in short order you'll be thrown a tag to post your description and you're in.

Look forward to playing with you.

Thank you for the advice, but, unfortunately, my laptops hard drive crashed on me last month. I am using my fireHD.

I am a bit confused as to the story, thus far. I assumed that we are in Caern. I also assume we are alone, having survive our personal backstory. We are meeting in the "speak easy" because...?

I may have missed something. I will re-read the game thread again.
It has sounded really chaotic, frightening, and setting is strangely LC....nice!

    Sovereign Court

    Male Human Unchained Rogue 1

Oops, I didn't go back far enough. The game thread starts two pages late. Happens. Nice story, thus far! Trying to rework Dorians a bit in my head to more seamlessly merge with the great story you guys are spinning. I do have a brief history on his profile page, but I can change some, if needed.

    Cthulhu-Spawn DM/crazy person

Well, the first bit of the game thread takes place thousands of years ago, when the world is new. The realm eating monster shows up, and long story short, the PC's are slain and souls tortured by a nameless horror for all eternity (unless they signed a deal with the Prince of Devils). But they did succeed at stopping the Space Horror from eating their world. Go team!

The game starring our characters is taking place eons after that event, which is why the characters hear it as a bard's tale that doesn't seem to have an ending.

Basically, your character has been surviving in the port city of Caern. Your monk's training had been going quite well, until something causes your rather sudden banishment from the temple you are training in. I'll leave that up to your imagination as to why Dorian was kicked out. Perhaps one of the elders found out what he was, perhaps Dorian went all fanged out on a student that beat him in training. Regardless of how you decide that he was kicked out, at the moment, Dorian is templeless. He has been wandering the streets for the past tenday. While he has been raised within Cearn, rarely was Dorian outside of the temple walls.

The "speak-easy" was the point in where I finally gathered up the PC's to begin forging them into an actual group. I'm not full on forcing it, but the PC's are pretty much a group individuals banding together for survival. And yes, the adults that have remained alive and named will be providing avenues for further training ( i.e. your class level).

And thanks for putting your back ground up. It gave me a few more ideas (evil smile).

    Argon Alma wrote:

You pretty much have to be a noble, mid to high class merchant, lawyer, cleric, or sanctioned magic user. The tyrant kings aren't big on the unwashed masses becoming educated. That never ends well.

In Caern it's not as heavily enforced, but still exists, same with the attitude towards magic. The rumor of the ruler being a magic user herself, plus being right next door to the Umbral lands, it takes a back seat. Argon has basically been told to play dumb when it comes to reading and writing. Now, just speaking a different language shouldn't get you into trouble. But there are an awful of humans running around with the mentality of drunk hillbillies ("Its different, let's kill it), so keep that R/W skill under your hat around strangers :P

And Dorian, let's see what you got for your favorite Tentacled Monster. Thou hast been tagged. Get in there killer, show 'em what you you can do!

I do have his "who am I" speech ready when he is introduced to the group.

    Thats my line!....lol

    Game master

To be Batman as a player you would need: 20 levels as monk, 20 levels as Ranger, 20 levels as fighter, 20 levels as rogue and 20 levels as wizard. To get started level 1 monk, level 1 rogue, level 1 fighter, level 1 ranger, 1 level as wizard.
Or level 1 Slayer, that would give you rogue and ranger, a level as Magus as that would give you the fighter and wizard that you would need, and finally the class of ninja. I'm sure I could do the build on myth-weavers if you needed the Batman template. :)

    Fixed :)

p.s. I wonder if a character with crazy high stats and training would still be schooled by a feeble character of low level with nigh unlimited resources.

A ring of invisibility alone starts to make it interesting....

    The Lady in Black

Hey there, one and all! Scaffold Kane here presenting a (mostly) finished character!

I'll be continuously working on her until she's hopefully finished tonight. If anyone has an issue with what I'm rolling with, feel free to let me know.

    Premise:

What I have here is an alchemist archer who I plan to take into assassin and make use of some pretty brutal death attacks. She's a nerd. She throws bombs. She's not very nice unless you're helping her.

I've actually played this character (different class) a loong time ago and I want to explore her character a bit more. She's evil, but only because she doesn't value life that's between her and what she wants; knowledge. Specifically knowledge of her own past. When I played her the first time, she gave money to beggars. When the GM called out my Evil alignment, I just told him "And if any of these beggars tried to keep information from me, I'd slit their throats and have a cup of tea. And you don't want to know what I'd do to them if they weren't telling me something I wanted to know".

Anywho, thought you'd like to know.

For ease of perusal I'm going to paste everything into one post.

    Looks very interesting.

A couple notes out in the ether.

Any alignment is welcome as long as the character melds with the other characters, so as long as you see a NE-aligned character melding well into a trusting team with NG, CG, LN, NG, and CG alignments I'm happy. The goal is party unity, not necessarily full disclosure (smirk).

You're making a character that can get along with the other players, and has reasons to adventure and join this specific group. Our group rarely has prolonged tension between members (last time was over 4 years ago, and the other player was quickly sent back to char gen), and never does an argument fall into a true battle or PVP.

Alignments are played loosely in our group and aren't manacles, so feel free to explore your concept and feel free to let the character evolve as you see fit.

Lilith is not very tall, nor is she very strong in appearance, but what she lacks in apparent physical power, she makes up for in menacing aura. Most notable is probably the contrast between her solid black hair and pale skin. She also often paints herself with solid black symbols and runes that most people don't understand.

Love that pic and it fits the name perfectly.

    Lilith the Hearteater wrote:

    Background:
To understand and to comprehend. While the two seem almost synonymous with one another, someone who truly comprehends the meaning of the two words could spend days describing the differences. While this may be the case, the very idea of perceptions and viewpoints encompasses the concept of differentiating the words. Allow me to elaborate using one very specific example. Myself.

My name is Lilith. In that simple statement, my explanation begins. I understand my name. Essentially, it is a group of sounds that can be produced with a person’s mouth to represent me; just as any other word is used to represent some other object or concept. While this is understood, I should know better than any that it is not comprehended. When others refer to me as Lilith, all their minds are capable of doing is linking the word with the very idea of me, and my existence, with the words preceding my name and with the words following my name. However, in order to comprehend the word, their mind must encompass me. My ideals, my actions, my intentions, my hopes, my dreams.

When I was a child, since before I could remember, I’ve been living on my own in the city. I was left with nothing but my name barely in my memory. Only my first name, making any hope of finding out who I am or where I came from shot to the ground with logic and reason. Even logic and reason, however, are difficult to differentiate without the implications of perceptions and viewpoints. While living on the streets, I was forced to do things for my own survival. While most could see this as a viable course of action, it was one man by the name of Cornelius Blackwater, professor Blackwater as he was known, that had a slightly different course for me. He adopted me and, once he understood how intelligent I turned out to be, he put me through college. The people there were no more intelligent than the people on the street, but I was promised more knowledge. None of them comprehended me though.

This is where my concept of perceptions and viewpoints become a huge factor in my explanation. While I understand who I am, I do not comprehend it. My soul, my very being, wants no more than to know who I am. I have no name. I strive so hard to comprehend the world around me, yet my heart is blackened by ignorance. People around me perceive me as a genius just as well as they perceive me as evil, but they only understand what I do. They do not comprehend why I do it. However, telling the poor ignorant souls this information only reinforces their perception that they are correct. While you can explain to them anything you want, for as long as you want, such as the difference between understanding something and comprehending it, people will still maintain that they are the same. Everything in the universe, even coming down to whether you understand it or comprehend it, is a matter of perception. All I want is to comprehend myself, whether you understand that or not.

    --------------------

Lilith has no recollection of where she was born or to whom. She was abandoned on the street at an age no older than a toddler, her parents leaving her as a street rat. Quickly, she took to the streets and easily learned the standard protocol of surviving there. In fact, she proved to be more cunning and quick-thinking than any of the others. She taught herself to read and her genius quickly outran her as she began stealing books more than the food or money she needed to live, often taking them away from the city into the nearby hills to read and learn.

When she became older, about the equivalent of a teenager in human years, she was caught stealing a book from a library by a professor at the local academy. This man's name was Cornelius Blackwater. Finding Lilith's interest in reading despite being a street rat astounding, he decided to take her in. It didn't take long before he realized he had a brilliant thinker on his hands, but Lilith seemed obsessed with knowing everything. Even more so, she seemed dangerously obsessed with one piece of information. Who she was and who her parents were. "I can learn anything there is, but how do I learn something so... Abstract?" she would often say.

In hopes of satisfying her need for knowledge and understanding, Cornelius Blackwater enrolled her in the academy in which he taught. She quickly took to all subjects to a point of absolute boredom for her, but there was one subject that intrigued her more than any other; Alchemy. She would constantly recite her formulas, even coming up with new ones and brewing potions in her off time. Often this included potions she was not supposed make, but she had her ways of hiding her work. While testing components in class, even, she ate the still beating heart of a small rodent giving her the nickname 'Hearteater' among her peers. Considering it was the closest thing to a second name she's ever had, she started using it. It was preferable to Blackwater in her book, even though her adoptive family would claim Blackwater is her last name.

Her cruelty when discussing her heritage and obsession therein led to many problems in school. Eventually a bully within the college made the wrong remark to her about it and she murdered him then and there. She has since left the town in search of what she believes to be the ultimate truth, traveling all around the world.

Background-wise, like the questions I posed...

  • Possible family supports?
  • Why did your character get started in their chosen class?
  • Why is your family heirloom important to you and what is its story?
  • Character's goals/purpose?
  • Why become an adventurer?
  • How religious (the gods do exist, but do you care)?
  • How important is the accumulation of wealth and status?
  • Do you have any enemies?
  • Have you ever been arrested?
  • What is your view on other races? view on magic?

They're specific details I would just throw into your private notes, and not share with anyone right now. We have some insight into her disposition, which I would keep. Your writing is beautiful and a great read, and it's very possible that something very much like that will happen (talking here about any specific details of your youth), but I want you to leave it unknown for now. Perhaps something in the game will shift the way you look at your character, or perhaps the DM will decide to take you in.

As an elf, you're much older than everyone else (8 years will pass between the start and level 1, which makes you at youngest 102 years old), so perhaps Tentacledone (the second DM to run for this game, if you could the prequel) will just take it verbatim as what's happened to you to this point...I defer to him.

You are the unwashed, desperately clinging to life in the gutters of whatever city the fates have cast you. Clutched in your tiny child hands is the only remnant of your family. Your bones ride against your scarred skin beneath the rags that wrap around you, speaking to a short lifetime of poverty, disease, malnutrition, and an existence constantly on the run from those that would perpetrate against you for your meagre scraps of food, meting out beatings, slavery, and worse

Flexible to start, then the manacles of horror and pain will be applied.
