The stag nods and vanishes into the trees
The party heads down the snow trail. After a few minutes of trudging they see a frozen stream up ahead. Just before the stream is an odd sight: A snowman in the middle of the trail. It looks like any child's creation, but it has a placard placed about its neck the reads,
Trespassers turn back
Dungeon Monkey |
As Gaelin and Jeydavu approach the snowman it lets out a piercing scream
you each take 1d8 ⇒ 1 damage. Please roll me a DC 18 Fort save as well
The rest of the party claps hands to ears as the cacophonous shriek splits the frigid air. As it dies down there is a crackling sound, like icebergs rubbing together. Two lumpy forms emerge from the edge of the frozen stream next to Gaelin and Jeydavu. The forms look like ice chunks sintered together into a vaguely humanoid shape
I'll need a group initiative

Penelopy looks over the river
"I think there is something on the far bank."
The red-head starts striding across the frozen stream. Suddenly, there is a resounding *CRACK*. An entire section of the stream ice crumbles under the barmaid's feet. She screeches as the fast-running cold water hits her. She plunges in, and the current sweeps her under the unbroken ice. The last anyone sees of her is a trail of flame-colored curls being sucked beneath the ice
Well, she sprung the trap for you guys. Do me a solid and don't be heroes and try to save her.
Gaelin Northvein |
Gaelin runs to the bank as he sees her go under. "Penelopy!" he calls out. He looks at the churning frigid water carrying her away at great speed beneath the ice. He pounds at the frozen earth helplessly.
"We cannot separate. This is a perilous place and we cannot run off by ourselves." He shakes his head sadly. "So senseless."

Jeydavu of Hellirinn |
Jeydavu turns his back for a moment to tend to his moose. He doesn't notice that something is wrong until he hears the crack of the ice and turns around just in time to see Penelope's curls disappear. He goes up to the shoreline and sees that going after her is futile. He murmurs a prayer in druidic and then looks across the bank to see what could have caught Penelopy's attention.
perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7
He does not see anything. He leads Chtonthoth over to the others. "This unnatural cold has claimed another victim. We cannot let her death be in vain, we must press on and rid this forest of this curse before it takes another life."

Intro:
A pained noise comes from the pile of clothing on the other side of the river. They move as a form sits up
Athromar Karthis |
Athromar shakes his head of cobwebs and attempts to gingerly stand up, he looks around and sees several figures across the ice.
Drawing his mace he issues a teeth chattering challenge, "Ware the ice strangers, many good men perished trying to cross. Who are you lot?"
Athromar looks a bit dazed and staggers slightly as he calls across to the group.
Gaelin Northvein |
A tall man with strong Ulfen features stands at the bank. While his ancestry is clearly Northern, his speech, manners, and grooming are unmistakably Taldane. "We seek to root out whatever corrupts this wood. How did you come to be here? Are you hurt?"
Athromar Karthis |
Athromar keeps his mace before him but looks down and checks his body for wounds.
"It seems my pride and my heart are wounded but my body is secure. Perhaps rest on the bank has allowed me to overcome the extreme cold radiated by the guardians? I take it your and yours have defeated them?"
Athromar looks around warily now, suddenly remembering the creatures that brought his former companions to doom.
Athromar Karthis |
"There were four of us. My companions sought to avoid the snow trap on the road by crossing the ice. Little did we know that the ice would be guarded by the frosty fiends. An area of the ice broke open as we battled. I dived off of the ice after taking a solid blow from one of the creatures. My companions fell through the ice struggling with the creatures, the blow to my head was enough to knock me unconscious. Now here you are. I think you. Were it not for you, the cold may have taken me. It was the commotion of the battle that woke me from my stupor".
