Colvyn and Kellek, there's enough time here for you to return and regroup with the rest of the team on the second floor.

Guiness leads the way up the stairs and arrives on the building's third floor. To the north sits another staircase leading even further up. On this floor are two simple wooden doors, one to the east leading to a corner of the building and a second to the south leading to wherever those chutes must've been connected to. As you arrive on this floor, you hear the sounds of saw blades begin to whirr. The sound seems to be coming through the closed door to the south.

Unfortunately the noise covers up most other minor noises, making it difficult to tell if there's any more footsteps or movement. (Perception checks based on sound take a -4 penalty)

Bet they're going to try the same trick again. Flo heads up the stairs and past Kargas and Guiness. Then she does her best to listen for signs of movement within the saw room.

Guiness hangs his warhammer on his belt and draws a potion, quickly quaffing it. He then heads to the door and prepares to open it, leading with his shield just as before downstairs. (If Colvyn would like to check it for traps, etc., he will wait for that first.) When the others are in position, Guiness gives a nod and opens the door.

Grabbing the note, Colvyn runs back to the mill. He takes another second to look at the bottom door to see if anyone stepped out from there. If everything is fine, he walks over to the other entrance, seeing if he could find the rest of the group. Unsure of what await, he sneak in and keep an ear out to locate his friends.

I've moved Colvyn and Kellek to the second floor.

Outside, Colvyn notes that the bottom door to the mill continues to remain closed. It doesn't seem like anyone or anything has come out from the lower floor. He's reaches the rest of the team on the second floor, and as he does, he notes the sound of someone moving around nearby... somewhere to the south.

Flo doesn't hear anything over the sound of the saws, nor does Kargas notice anything unusual. Guiness opens the slightly stuck door and feels some kind of wire attached to it snap. As it does, a sawblade is flung from an improvised trap straight at the dwarf! Luckily, the rusted blade bounces off his armor harmlessly and falls, embedding itself in the wooden floor. Seconds later, a shout of "Now!" filters up from the second floor.

On the second floor, Colvyn and Kellek see a trio of cultists rushing out of the southern room that Guiness, Kargas and Flo just cleared. They wave their razors menacingly and rush in!

(They don't get a surprise round because Colvyn heard them approaching, but unfortunately they still got a nat 20 on initiative :<)

In close quarters, only the red cultist is able to close with Kellek. He delivers a quick slash of his razor that cuts shallowly into the arcanist's shoulder. (Dealing 5 damage) The other two move up and cast spells at Kellek and Colvyn. One commands Colvyn to "Drop your weapon!" and the other commands Kellek to "Flee, coward!"

Colvyn Will: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26
Kellek Will: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20

Both of you manage to resist the commands with aplomb.

More cultists rush down from the fourth floor to the third floor for a pincer attack. They close with Kargas (Kargas, since you can't be caught flatfooted, they both provoke AoOs from you) and swing razors at him. He instinctively dodges the first slash, but the second catches him shallowly. (Dealing 6 dmg)

From the top of the fourth floor landing, you see yet another cultist (This one is light blue) who points their razor at the bloodrager. "Fall." The cultist's command attempts to compel Kargas...

Kargas Will: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9

and he throws himself to the ground! And must stay there for this next turn

Kellek steps back from his attacker and whips his hand down while touching his ring and middle finger to palm. With a word of magic a jet of webbing launches from his hand and into the room their foes came from before spreading over the hind-most pair.

He casts web and uses his arcane pool to increase the reflex DC to 18.

Flo darts back to find Kargas on the floor with two cultists over him. "Guiness, they're over here!" Hoping it is enough, she funnels some divine aid over to the Half-Orc.

"Heh, good one!" Kargas calls to the cultist who had ensorcelled him. "Hold still a moment, I'll be right over!" His eyes and scars light up as the attempts to cut the nearest enemy's legs out from under them.

Grunting as the saw blade scrapes off his shield and shoulder armor, Guiness is glad that he led through the door with his shield at the ready. At Flo's warning, the stout dwarf turns and moves to engage the nearest cultist, drawing Dragonfist as he goes. Bringing the hammer down on the cultist with a vicious arcing swing, Guiness goes for the quick strike as he moves up.

The sudden burst of webbing immediately ensnares the red and yellow cultists, while the blue one remains (somewhat) free to move.

With Flo's aid, Kargas swings his falchion in deadly arcs without even getting up from the ground. His first slice cuts through a leg and immediately causes the green cultist to pitch over and down the stairs. His screams abate in moments as he loses consciousness. The second slice cleaves up into the pink cultist's chest and powers straight through their armor. They cough a stream of blood to the ground and collapse.

Guiness is left without a target to strike (feel free to instead take another move action). Meanwhile downstairs, Colvyn bludgeons the red cultist in his masked patchwork face.

Trapped by the webs, the red and yellow cultists struggle to free themselves. Only the yellow one manages to peel himself off the sticky strands. The dark blue cultist draws a hidden hand crossbow and fires upon Colvyn. The bolt gets stuck on a strand.

The light blue cultist at the top of the stairs fires down at Kargas with his own crossbow and scores a lucky, but minor, hit. (Dealing 2 dmg)

As Guiness steps past him to run up the stairs, Kargas pushes to his feet and gives Floredana a nod. "Watch the dwarf, I'm gonna check on the other two," he tells her, moving down the steps and coming to a stop next to Colvyn.

"Look like you have things handled," he observes.

Kargas, looks like you accidentally moved yourself through a wall on the 2nd floor. I've put you back on the stairs.

After a spot of healing, Guiness heads up the stairs to the fourth floor. This floor has a low ceiling, little more than six feet. Sawdust lies piled up in the corners of the main room on this floor, but the most striking element of the room is the circle of lit candles in the center of the room surrounding a razor embedded into the floor.

Guiness spots another cultist (purple) and also notices a shimmer in the air and the sound of an incantation midway through completion. It appears to be coming from a spot to the southern side of the room, though Guiness can't see anyone actually spellcasting in the area. (I've added a small circle to identify where this spellcasting seems to be coming from.) Only Guiness' headbutt connects with the light-blue cultist.

Back on the second floor, Colvyn swings in with his longbow and connects with the grappled red cultist's face. The cultist responds by spitting out a broken tooth and calling out "Silence take you!"

On the second floor, the red cultist focuses and releases a rippling haze of negative energy. The field engulfs all three heroes downstairs as well as Flo at the top of the stairs nearby and his two allies.

The other two cultists load and aim their crossbows at Kargas, picking the deadliest seeming threat as the biggest priority. One bolt hits while the other one misses, embedding itself in the railing of the stairs. (Bolt deals only 1 damage)

On the fourth floor, the light blue cultist slashes with a razor but finds Guiness' defenses impregnable. He carefully backs off. The purple cultist sees an opportunity and closes in, but his swing is easily knocked aside with a well positioned shield.

The spell being cast to the southern end of the fourth floor seems to conclude, only for the ground near Guiness to ripple alarmingly. Two grotesque mounds of roiling flesh emerge to flank the dwarf! (Pic in handouts) They immediately begin clawing at Guiness' arms and legs, but they have no luck against his armor.

"We've got a spellcaster up here," calls down Guiness, glad he guarded the flank so these monsters would focus on him and not sweep down on less well-protected members of his party from behind.

Determined to not remain flanked, the implacable dwarf focuses his attacks on the monster downstairs from him, striking down at the creature with his hammer and following up with another fierce headbutt from his helmet (if he is fortunate enough to take it down with attacks remaining, he will shift to attack the other flesh monster before him).

Tactical dwarf is thinking tactically...I thought about having Guiness 5 foot step down the stairs, but that gives them a bonus to hit him and removes the space where another melee combatant could come up and attack around the corner. If he takes a lot of damage he will likely back down to limit the number of attackers, but for now he is in a decent position as combat speed bump, his intended role. When Kargas arrives to be the hammer, Guiness is quite content to be the anvil.

Guiness delivers a one-two strike of his hammer into the flesh creature to this west. Each blow seems to be partially absorbed by its grotesque yielding form, but the resistance fails to protect it enough in the face of the dwarf's wrath. Badly bludgeoned, it evaporates back into the realm it came from. His headbutt connects with the purple cultist and injures the fellow.

Flo's blessing surrounds Guiness in a wave of butterflies. I've moved you back one square Flo, as you and Kargas were in the same position.

Downstairs, Kargas' slash takes out the red cultist while two arrows from Colvyn thud straight into the chest of the yellow cultist. The yellow one sways for a moment and then falls limp against the web strands. The red cultist topples to the ground into a pool of blood.

The dark blue cultist doesn't like the look of how things are going and tries to go through the web and over the railing down to the floor below. But he just gets tangled in web strands.

Up on the fourth floor, the light blue cultist reloads his crossbow and fires down at Flo. The shot skims past her leg and delivers a minor wound. (For 2 points of damage) The purple cultist slashes once more at Guiness, but again earns little more than a dent on his war razor for his trouble. The blue flesh monster swings in with meaty fists, but Guiness is able to interpose his shield to block both blows.

Just as you're wondering where the mystery spellcaster might be, you hear a voice from nearby "My friend, you are outnumbered. It is ever so clear that you need reinforcements. I suggest you head immediately to the nearest guardpost to look for them while your ally holds the line." As the words are spoken, a tall figure cloaked in an extravagant orange and red robe appears at the railing at the top floor. (Marked in orange) He points toward Kargas.

Trusting that his ally will throw off the absurd suggestion, Guiness continues to swing his magic hammer and pound the enemies with his thick helmet. As tempted as he is to go straight for the spellcaster, he doesn't want to leave Floredana exposed if for some reason Kargas is magically compelled to follow the enemy's dictates.

Dashing down the stairs, she starts to catch up on the swift man. "Desna, free him from his shackles!" she beseeches, firing a line of pure magic at him.

The assumption here is that we know it was a spell that was just cast. She'll move the minimum amount to get line of sight on him. GM, if that isn't cool, instead of following and casting Dispel Magic on him, she'll cast Shatter on either the caster's component pouch or holy symbol (depending on what they're doing to cast).

Kellek just uses any previous actions to move up behind Flo and get a feel for what's up. How high is the ceiling up there? If he has the time to step into Kargas's or Flo's place and cast--even better.

Up on the fourth floor, Guiness lands mighty blows of his hammer against the fleshy monstrosity. After two swings, it too squishes under the assault and dissolves back to where it was summoned from. His headbutt collides with the purple cultist to good effect.

Kargas runs out of the building in search of 'allies', but Flo is able to move down fast enough and shatter the enchantment controlling him with a well placed dispel. As the suggestion fades, the previous thoughts about going straight to a guardpost seem somehow extra ridiculous.

Colvyn's twin shots pincushion the remaining cultist on the second floor, leaving that floor clear of foes. Higher up, Kellek's stinking cloud engulfs all the remaining enemies. You hear the cultists hacking and coughing, overwhelmed by the magical gas.

The light blue one pitches himself over the railing and down to the third floor. He lands on his feet outside the cloud. The purple one follows after him, stumbling past Guiness and pitching over the railing to land acrobatically on his feet. (Purple provokes from Guiness)

The purple one is currently right next to Colvyn btw, since the "stair" squares overlap between each floor.

The remaining cultist, likely the leader from his ornate robes, swears at the sounds of his retreating allies. You hear him moving, walking across the wooden floors, and then calling out "Come dwarf. Your silence waits for you."

Flo pumps her fist a little as her magic seems to have freed Kargas. Unfortunately, cultists now block her way back up, but she has a Colvyn on her side, where the cultists don't!

How the tides have turned! Thanks for moving me, GM, wasn't sure where she needed to be! Flo moves 10ft south (hoping to provoke from the cultist), and luck on Colvyn. I think she is on the edge of the web spell, but she'd still move the 10ft even if that means she's in the spell (Colvyn not getting smacked for shooting is worth a little damage!). GM, does Agile Feet have any interaction with the Web spell? I don't think it negates the grapple.

Flo dashing past earns little attention from the two cultists. They're both rather preoccupied with coughing out the putrid gas they inhaled. Guiness doesn't manage to catch the purple cultist as they're running past, but follows after them and lands a powerful blow (but doesn't confirm). The light blue cultist holds to their feet, but looks rather badly injured.

Down the stairs, Colvyn solidly cracks the purple cultist with the haft of his longbow. The cultist wavers for a moment but remains standing.

Kellek's spell takes effect, though for now it doesn't reveal anything more than he could already see. The two cultists are still too overwhelmed by nausea to fight effectively, but they attempt to flee by tossing themselves over the railing and down to the ground floor. (Purple provokes from Colvyn, Kargas and Flo. Light blue provokes from Guiness and Kellek) Purple manages to land with a roll, assuming he isn't taken out mid-fall by opportunistic attacks, but light blue tumbles and lands prone.

There's no sign of the leader.
