Upon the horizon the sun begins to sink as the dinner bell of the Jenivere sounds out. The ocean is calm, but over the last few days, an unease has settled on the ship that can't be entirely shaken. Various members of the crew have begun to mutter openly concerning the vessel's course. The first mate, Alton Devers has tried to quell the suspicions, but it is clear that he too is concerned.
As the bell finishes ringing, you see the other passengers beginning to make their way to the Captain's Mess.

The food is not yet on the table as the various passengers begin to file into the Captain's mess.
Not surprisingly, Gelik Aberwhinge, a gnome out of Magnimar is already there. Of all the various passengers, he seems the most sociable, particular towards the other two who boarded in Magnimar.
Ishirou, a gruff man of Tian ancestry takes his seat. Taciturn and dour the man has said fewer words than any other passenger the entire long voyage.
Sasha Nevah sits nearest to Arinka. The red-haired woman boarded in Ilizmagorti with Arinka and early latched onto her as a conversational companion.
Last in is Aerys Mavato, who as usual, says nothing to anyone, but takes her seat and sits stiff-backed. The half-elf boarded in port peril and that same day beat one of the sailors senseless. You know from experience that she will likely drink too much at dinner and then immediately retire to her bunk.
"Well, all here," says Gelik, "except Ieana. I wonder where our quiet scholar has holed herself up this time?"
Each PC may choose a single NPC if they wish, to try and befriend them via diplomacy (or some other means). Such an effort will represent many weeks of work on board the ship to get to know the individual better.

How do roles work online? Do we just say we use it or do we still role the dice in spite of the fact you can't see it.
We are going to be using an online dice, you'll post your result on here using an out of character block, at least, that's what Dad told me.
I head off toward the mess hall, I'll be attempting to befriend the first mate, if I can convert him, maybe the crew will follow...

diplomacy on the first mate: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7here is my attempt on the first mate
I was told by dad that the first mate wasn't considered a passenger, so while I could do him, I needed to pick another passenger
So I guess, I'll talk to the gnomes about the church at thistle top, since they live in that area, maybe I can convince a gnome that Erastil has a lot to offer, against the Bleaching
diplomacy on the two gnomes: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10

The first mate enters the mess. "Good to see you all here," he says smiling, and more cheerful than he has been for any days, "except of course for the delightful and charming Ms. Ieana. Still, I wanted to assure you that I have talked with the Captain, and now understand better our course. Everything is just as it should be. I will be speaking to the crew shortly and allaying their fears also. Please enjoy your meal."
With a smile, he curtly nods and heads out, no doubt to talk further with the Captain. The cook enters, here hands full of a tureen. With a pleasant smile she ambles awkwardly to the table and begins ladling soup into bowls for each.
Aerys pours herself a large mug of rum and immediately begins drinking. Ishirou gives her a hard to read look and then focuses himself on his soup.
"Well, if you can't handle your liquor, others won't take you seriously - and they would be right not to," whispers Gelik loudly to Malchi. It is not the first time he has thrown a barb towards the besotted half-elf. Aerys merely glares at him, but she does take a moment to eat some of the soup.
"I wonder where Ieana is," says Sasha to Arinka, "I have not seen her all day."
DM Wicht |
who is Ieena?
Ieana is a Varisian who boarded in Magnimar at the beginning of the voyage. She says she is a scholar, but does not talk much. She mostly keeps to herself, except for a few brief times when she talks privately with the Captain. This has led to some muttering among the crew (Diplomacy to verify which rumors have been heard, if any) about who she really is. In conversation she is normally polite and reserved, but after much time on the ship with her, you don't actually know her that well.
Of course that is true for most of the other passengers, non of them really like to talk about themselves.

He said something about finding the correct course." I tell him, "But it does seem odd he seems to have just changed his attitude now...One would think that such a change would have happened just like that."
i do not trust the first mate, can i make a sense motive, though i am going to have to do it untrained. Also you say a diplomacy check to pick up rumors? I like to try my hand at that.
