Upon the horizon the sun begins to sink as the dinner bell of the Jenivere sounds out. The ocean is calm, but over the last few days, an unease has settled on the ship that can't be entirely shaken. Various members of the crew have begun to mutter openly concerning the vessel's course. The first mate, Alton Devers has tried to quell the suspicions, but it is clear that he too is concerned.

As the bell finishes ringing, you see the other passengers beginning to make their way to the Captain's Mess.

Male Human Paladin 1

Since I'm in charge of some cargo am I supposed to head to the mess hall, or do I get a different meal?

Female Half elf Rogue 1

I'm heading to the mess hall

Female Elf Arcanist 1

I will also head to the mess hall.

Janrose, Knight of Erastil wrote:

You are still a passenger and eat with the other passengers.

M Gnome Animist 1

I will go also towards the mess hall since those in charge of the cargo eat with the rest.

The food is not yet on the table as the various passengers begin to file into the Captain's mess.

Not surprisingly, Gelik Aberwhinge, a gnome out of Magnimar is already there. Of all the various passengers, he seems the most sociable, particular towards the other two who boarded in Magnimar.

Ishirou, a gruff man of Tian ancestry takes his seat. Taciturn and dour the man has said fewer words than any other passenger the entire long voyage.

Sasha Nevah sits nearest to Arinka. The red-haired woman boarded in Ilizmagorti with Arinka and early latched onto her as a conversational companion.

Last in is Aerys Mavato, who as usual, says nothing to anyone, but takes her seat and sits stiff-backed. The half-elf boarded in port peril and that same day beat one of the sailors senseless. You know from experience that she will likely drink too much at dinner and then immediately retire to her bunk.

"Well, all here," says Gelik, "except Ieana. I wonder where our quiet scholar has holed herself up this time?"

Each PC may choose a single NPC if they wish, to try and befriend them via diplomacy (or some other means). Such an effort will represent many weeks of work on board the ship to get to know the individual better.

M Gnome Animist 1

As another charming and obvious Magnimarian gnome i would like to be friends with Gelik Aberwhinge. I feel we have something in common.

How do roles work online? Do we just say we use it or do we still role the dice in spite of the fact you can't see it.

We are going to be using an online dice, you'll post your result on here using an out of character block, at least, that's what Dad told me.

I head off toward the mess hall, I'll be attempting to befriend the first mate, if I can convert him, maybe the crew will follow...

Female Half elf Rogue 1

i will try and befriend Ishirou.

Male Human Paladin 1

diplomacy on the first mate: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7here is my attempt on the first mate

I was told by dad that the first mate wasn't considered a passenger, so while I could do him, I needed to pick another passenger

So I guess, I'll talk to the gnomes about the church at thistle top, since they live in that area, maybe I can convince a gnome that Erastil has a lot to offer, against the Bleaching
diplomacy on the two gnomes: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10

Male Human Paladin 1

oof- Low twice! And I don't have a bad diplomacy score!

M Gnome Animist 1

Very well here is my first attempt. Diplomacy on the the gnome: 1d20 +11 = (11) +11 = 22
I know words better than you Janrose. :)

Male Human Paladin 1

Did you use the dice on paizo?

Female Half elf Rogue 1

here's my diplomacy role to try and befriend Ishirou. hope i did it right :)
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15

Female Elf Arcanist 1

I guess I will try to befriend Sasha Nevah
Diplamacy: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13

Arinka:
Though Sasha will talk to Arinka, she is very reticent to share much personal, though you get the feelings that she has some sort of grudge against her mother, who she won't talk about.

Klania:
Ishirou remains unfriendly, despite Klania's best efforts to get to know him better. Klania has picked up on the fact that Ishirou finds Aerys Mavato fascinating, though the half-elf woman has as little to say to him as to any other man.

Janrose:
Janrose, despite his best efforts, can't seem to get close to Gelik. The more Janrose tries, the more unfriendly the other becomes.

Malchi:
Malchi gets to know Gelik rather easily. Gelik is a Pathfinder, though he has admitted to Malicho that he is currently on bad terms with the association; and he left Magnimar rather hastily over some "misunderstanding."

The first mate enters the mess. "Good to see you all here," he says smiling, and more cheerful than he has been for any days, "except of course for the delightful and charming Ms. Ieana. Still, I wanted to assure you that I have talked with the Captain, and now understand better our course. Everything is just as it should be. I will be speaking to the crew shortly and allaying their fears also. Please enjoy your meal."

With a smile, he curtly nods and heads out, no doubt to talk further with the Captain. The cook enters, here hands full of a tureen. With a pleasant smile she ambles awkwardly to the table and begins ladling soup into bowls for each.

Aerys pours herself a large mug of rum and immediately begins drinking. Ishirou gives her a hard to read look and then focuses himself on his soup.

"Well, if you can't handle your liquor, others won't take you seriously - and they would be right not to," whispers Gelik loudly to Malchi. It is not the first time he has thrown a barb towards the besotted half-elf. Aerys merely glares at him, but she does take a moment to eat some of the soup.

"I wonder where Ieana is," says Sasha to Arinka, "I have not seen her all day."

Male Human Paladin 1

I wish to try again on the gnome, If that is okay.

Female Half elf Rogue 1

can i try again to befriend Ishirou?

Janrose, Knight of Erastil wrote:

Klania Kerisash wrote:

Not at this time.

Female Half elf Rogue 1

can i try some one else?

Very well then, I shall turn my attention to Ishirou

"Have you ever been to Varisa, my friend?"

Klania Kerisash wrote:

Maybe later. :)

Janrose, Knight of Erastil wrote:
"Have you ever been to Varisa, my friend?"

"Aye," is the taciturn reply, "a time or two." The gray haired man returns to eating his soup, his conversation done.

Female Elf Arcanist 1

I will answer Sasha
I do not know.

What dice? And how do you use it?

M Gnome Animist 1

i am worried about Ieena. Is she usually late?

"So," says Gelik to Malchi, "What do you think of the first mate's change of heart? He was none too happy this morning, I can tell you."

Malchi Shua wrote:

The lady keeps to herself a lot, but she is normally present for meals.

Female Half elf Rogue 1

who is Ieena?
if it isn't someone i know i want to ask the question to Malchi

Male Human Paladin 1

@Malchi check the how to format your text.

Female Elf Arcanist 1

Has anyone seen her at all today?

Klania Kerisash wrote:

Ieana is a Varisian who boarded in Magnimar at the beginning of the voyage. She says she is a scholar, but does not talk much. She mostly keeps to herself, except for a few brief times when she talks privately with the Captain. This has led to some muttering among the crew (Diplomacy to verify which rumors have been heard, if any) about who she really is. In conversation she is normally polite and reserved, but after much time on the ship with her, you don't actually know her that well.

Of course that is true for most of the other passengers, non of them really like to talk about themselves.

Arinka Talathel wrote:

She was at lunch.

Male Human Paladin 1

I will offer to look for her since every one is worried about her.

M Gnome Animist 1

He said something about finding the correct course." I tell him, "But it does seem odd he seems to have just changed his attitude now...One would think that such a change would have happened just like that."

i do not trust the first mate, can i make a sense motive, though i am going to have to do it untrained. Also you say a diplomacy check to pick up rumors? I like to try my hand at that.

Diplomacy: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (15) + 11 = 26

"I'm sure she will be here," says Ishirou, "Unless she's seasick again."

Ieana has claimed to have been seasick a few times during the voyage, so its a possibility.

Malchi:
You have heard some of the crew speculate that she might be the actual owner of the ship, while others think she is the captain's woman. Still others whisper that she is a Chelish agent on a mission to Sargava.

You can try Sense Motive if you want.

Female Half elf Rogue 1

can i try and listen into peoples conversations without looking like i am eavesdropping?

Klania Kerisash wrote:

It's a fairly small room and its easy to hear what most everybody says.

Everyone needs to make a Fortitude save please. :)

I... sit somewhere in the corner, attempting to appear unapproachable while listening to the general chatter.

Female Half elf Rogue 1

ah yes fortitude . . the old poison the players trick . . *sigh*
fortitude: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (3) + 0 = 3

Female Half elf Rogue 1

and i probably didn't make it

Male Human Paladin 1

@caasi jecir, heh
fortitude: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Let's hope this works...

Caasi Jecir wrote:

Welcome to the game...

You still have to make a Fortitude Saving throw. :)

Female Half elf Rogue 1

Caasi Jecir to make a dice role go to were it says how to 'format your text' right below the area in which you write it will show you how :)

Female Elf Arcanist 1

I want to make a diplomacy roll for the rumors.
diplomacy: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10
fortitude: 1d20 ⇒ 3

M Gnome Animist 1

Fortitude: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7

M Gnome Animist 1

fortitude already? Was our food drugged? Man i really have a bad feeling about first mate...
