Wouldn't hurt to have some divine I don't have any cure spells on my list, but I have a good UMD so as long as we have access to wands I can heal. UMD is currently +9, and will get higher as we level.
Lord Bramwell |
I'm saving for a wand of inflict light wounds, it's my first time playing a dhampir and the healing restrictions are rougher to deal with than I thought. Goodberry can only get me so far, and I don't want to burden the rest of the group.
But really, I wouldn't mind having another full divine caster. I find that druids don't really shine in the healing department, and overall don't fill the same niche as a cleric or oracle.
However, a full arcane caster is always useful, and the Whispering Way is all about arcane lore. We're likely to need someone with those abilities further down the road.
I'm torn. Maybe we just let the applications roll in and see what shines. :)
Imperia Albus |
Are we waiting for a new player or did we need some RP at the house?
Imperia Albus |
No worries. With the site he way its' been, I wasn't sure what was happening.
Imperia Albus |
I'd do a new one. It will get more interest than a recruitment with a lot of posts.
Imperia Albus |
I think so.
Imperia Albus |
You want us to comment in the recruitment thread, give you our thoughts on the candidates or both?
Lord Bramwell |
I've got a few favorites but I'd rather wait until recruitment closes to share my preferences. Applicants often check the discussion threads and I don't want to discourage anyone from working on their characters. In any case, characters are still rolling in, and the pool seems varied enough (except for the lack of divine casters, if we don't count the rangers).
It seems to me it's shaping up to be a martial frontliner and an arcane spellcaster (either full or partial), a composition that would also suit the party. A warrior-type would allow Khardan and Bramwell to step back and use spells as support instead of having to go full melee.
Also, I don't want to be unfair to new PbP players but I think it's always worth checking posting history.
Imperia Albus |
Agree with Lord Bramwell. I'm reviewing. I'll PM you with my thoughts in the next couple of days.
Imperia Albus |
I've PMed you about my thoughts.
Imperia Albus |
I thought we were looking for half giant, cleric, sorcerer, ranger, bards.
Dr. Audubon Cawthorne |
Thank you very much for the inclusion! I'm attending a concert tonight, but will check in tomorrow morning with my updated half-drow magus/monk/summoner!
Filiana Longsong |
Greetings all, thanks for letting me join in your game.
A quick introduction then:
My name is Chris. I live in New Zealand. I have been playing RPGs for a long long time now, starting with Basic D&D about 40 years ago and including all the various versions over the years as well as Traveller, Shadowrun, Call of Cthulhu, Runequest, Rifts ... the list goes on. Mostly D&D though, and then more recently Pathfinder. Some of my group really really didn't like 4E so we made the jump to Pathfinder and have never looked back really.
I have tried and enjoyed this PbP style of game quite a lot in the last 18 months or so, although I have to admit every other game I've been in has come to an untimely end, usually around 2nd level. I have high hopes for this game though - finally, the curse will be broken! :)
I should be able to post pretty much every day, although of course the fact that I am in New Zealand may mean that I post at odd times from the perspective of some of you.
Looking forward to gaming with you all :)
Khardan, The Spear of Arqueros |
Hey, guys. Welcome aboard!
Chris, you and Dr. Audubon are taking the place of my friend Suzy, who also hails from your general part of the Antipodes (Sydney, in her case), so we're used your crazy Moon-Schedule!
Dr. Audubon Cawthorne |
A little about me: I live in the US in western New York state, which puts me in the EDT (currently) and EST (come fall & winter) time zone. I've been playing tabletop rpgs for several decades and pbp for two years. For me the ability to do internal monologue is one of the greatest strengths/draws of pbp. Sitting around the table folks generally just want to know what your character's doing, not really the reasons why; I find the internal monologue allows for a greater depth of character than traditional gaming.
I'm good to post one or more times a day during the week, and at least one post over the weekends. During the week I check the boards several times a day between 8:00 and 19:00 local time.
I've enjoyed reading your campaign thus far and am very excited to be on board!
Lord Bramwell |
Welcome, Filiana and Dr. Cawthorne! We look forward to joining forces with you, and we've just returned to Kendra's house after briefly exploring Harrowstone. This is a good moment to introduce new characters... I imagine you both arrived later for the funeral due to unforeseen circumstances? Whatever the case, I have confidence our GM will know how to introduce you both quickly and seamlessly into our merry little band!
In the spirit of introductions, here's a little about me: I'm from Brazil and I live in São Paulo (EDT+1). I've been playing RPG regularly since 2002, I think... mostly D&D 3rd, then Pathfinder, and now we're back to D&D with the 5th edition. We've also played a series of other systems such as an assortment of old World of Darkness games, as well as Numenera, the Strange, Fiasco, FFG Star Wars, Mutants and Masterminds and whatever interests us. In the past years, I've also collaborated with Paizo and Legendary Games on a few published products for Pathfinder, but since the beginning of this year Im taking a break to focus on other personal projects not related to gaming. I really like the PbP format for much the same reasons as Dr. Cawthorne and usually check the boards multiple times a day, though I tend to be offline during the weekends.
Oh, and I'm older than GM_Carrioncat, too.
Khardan, The Spear of Arqueros |
Okey-doke.
I'm -way- older.
I began playing OD&D in February of 1977, the white box set. I've run a game more or less continuously for the last forty years. I've GMed every edition of D&D, as well as Pathfinder, Boot Hill, Top Secret, Hero System, Champions, WoD, Traveller (every edition), Arcana Evolved, Numenera, the Strange, and The One Ring. I'm currently GMing one face-to-face Pathfinder game, GMing four online Pathfinder games, one game of Traveller: The New Era and one game of The One Ring. I'm playing in two online AP's and in three other PFS games.
I'm a criminal defense attorney in Virginia. I'm married and have two young sons.
Filiana Longsong |
You saying that made me count back and it seems that 1977 would be the year I started too. No idea of the month though :)
Imperia Albus |
I guess it's my turn. I'm also older than Carrioncat.
I've been playing table top RPG's for about four years. I would have played as a youngster, but I grew up in an area of the country that still believed the D&D kerfuffle even into the 90's. So no D&D for me.
My husband's cousin invited us to play 4th Edition D&D, and we've been gaming monthly since. I tried PFS a large game convention three years ago, and got hooked up with the local society. I don't get to play in person as often as I'd like. Last year I took a chance on these boards, and haven't looked back. It scratches the playing itch quite well.
I live in the Seattle, WA area. I check the boards once in a while during the day PT, but I do most of my posting in the evenings. I do Research Administration for the Veteran's Health Administration at the Seattle Hospital. I've worked there almost 20 years after a move from Missouri to Washington.
GM_Carrioncat |
I've been more or less immersed in tabletop RPGs since I was a kid--I actually got my start on the computer game Dark Sun: Shattered Lands for DOS. I've played more CRPGs than PnP games growing up--now that I'm older, CRPGs have mostly lost their allure for me (with the exception of Darkest Dungeon & the remastered Infinity Engine games), whereas the freedom offered by PnP is much more appealing.
I'm an undergraduate university student planning to go on to grad studies.
--------------
On a game-related note, I was going to wait until Khardan posted but...
Lord Bramwell |
Re-reading Khardan's backstory, it seems like he would know Dr. Cawthorne and, perhaps, Filiana. Her link to the professor is still undefined, though.
Dr. Audubon Cawthorne |
It seems likely that Cawthorne has made the passing acquaintance of both Khardan and Imperia, the former in his service to the professor and the latter in her role as a Lepidstadt University librarian.
Filiana Longsong |
Filiana's link to the Professor is (to her mind at least) very tenuous. She was traveling with her cousin when they happened upon the Professor exploring a ruin in Odranto. They stepped in and helped when the Professor was being attacked by some undead. Although it was her cousin who did most of the heroic stuff (him being about 7th level) the Professor saw something in Filiana that she didn't see in herself. They traveled with him for a week or so after that, as they were all headed in the same direction, and then separated when he turned south to head back to Ravengro.
CariMac |
Yes I would have a passing acquaintance with the Dr. If he has a keen interest in occult, it might be more of an acquaintance. It could be a lively correspondence or research collaboration the past.

Dr. Audubon Cawthorne |
Sorry, folks - I promise I'm done hijacking the gameplay thread. I'm just excited for a chance to finally play Cawthorne, and I'm having an incredibly slow day at work.
Imperia Albus |
No worries. I'm enjoying reading your posts.
Dr. Audubon Cawthorne |
When their adventures are over, Imperia and Bramwell should open an establishment called The Lord & Librarian; I'm thinking an upscale bar/social club in Lepidstadt's university district catering to the educated and upper class. A sitting parlor atmosphere with book-lined shelves, a fireplace or two, second floor 'reading nook' sitting overlooking main room, and a dank wine cellar full of vermin and access to crumbling secret tunnels. If only Lepdistadt had a labrynthine Parisian sewer system the tunnels could connect to so Bramwell could skulk about under the city.
Imperia Albus |
Excellent plan.
