Nicat

You don't detect an aura of magic in the room. And aside from the ranseur that looks like it can be removed, the statue appears to be safe to interact with...

Looks safe enough...

Nicat grabs hold of the ranseur's shaft and pushes it out through the statue's hands, doing his best not to drop the unwieldy thing.

OH, FOR $#@¥'$ SAKE!

The ranseur comes loose easily when Nicat pushes it. Despite his reflexes, the ranseur falls to the floor with a loud *CLANG!* >:)

...

...

...

Nothing seems to have come running yet.

The ranseur, upon closer inspection, is intricately decorated with the same seven-pointed star that's engraved elsewhere in the dungeon. Its blade is surprisingly well-polished and its haft is carved from ivory. It's as much a work of art as a functional weapon.

"It looks in pretty good shape to me," responds Nicat, lifting the weapon and looking along the shaft to gauge its straightness. He shrugs, "Let's keep exploring, eh?"

Let's look down the hall that goes east, where Nicat is standing on the map.

Eostre was starting to get red in the face.

"It's the bloody principle of it, ya twit! You don't start removing things from a potent is dig site until the place has been mapped and sketched! If you do you're not an archaeologist but a sodding looter! Do you even know how to fight with a bloody polearm like that? Arrrrgh! I give up. Someone else try to talk some sense into him!"

The party explores down the eastern corridor...

The tunnel widens here into what appears to have once been a small shrine, for to the northeast, steps lead up to a platform of gray stone. Sitting atop the platform is an ancient altar, little more than a jagged block of black marble with a shallow concavity on top of it. This basin is filled with what appears to be filthy water.

A pair of grand double doors are at the other end of this room, emblazoned with the seven-pointed star as before. Unlike the other carvings here, these engravings are glowing red.

Detect Magic & DC 18 Spellcraft:
The water in the basin isn't simply filthy water, but waters of Lamashtu. Drinking from the basin will be hazardous to your health--you'll become violently ill and vomit if you're lucky. If you're unlucky, initial exposure will cause potentially permanent damage to your mind and body and things will only get worse from there.

"I didn't want to fight with it, Sis," Nicat retorts, "I thought it'd make a nice present for Sylvia, since she's got that other long weapon-thing she carries about. And I don't recall ever saying I was an archaeologist. I'm a Deputy!"

He heads off down the hall, shaking his head in wonder at how confused Eostre can get, and pauses as he sees the shrine and the dirty water on its altar. He raises a hand and appears to concentrate a moment, then says, "Hey, this thing's magic! But it looks like there's a leak or something somewhere, because there's nasty water in the magic bowl carved into that black stone."

Eostre grumbles under her breath at Nicat, but moves over to the basin to examine it. She casts the spell to detect magic and closes her eyes. When she opens them again, they glow bright green as she stares at the basin.

"Don't bother poking the water. It's got more magic demon flu germs than that ranseur ever could. It's the waters of Lamashtu. Drinking it'd be what we professionals like to call a really bloody bad idea. If you're lucky you'll just get really sodding sick and violently puke your guts out. If you're not...well, it'll start by scarring your mind, and then it'll only get worse."

Eostre crosses her arms.

"Unless you're planning on slipping it into someone's wineglass, forget it. Just throwing it at someone wouldn't achieve much unless it was an archon or something. I'm not opposed to poisoning your spearhead for a little extra bite, but pulling assassination stuff like poisoning drinks? That's low, even for me. Reminds me too much of what some of my colleagues back in Riddleport have attempted. Besides, what if the local priest detected it like I did? He'd think you worshiped Lamashtu or something, and then you'd probably be accused of aiding the goblin attack. Goblins ARE some of her most fervent worshipers after all."

Placeholder Until Her Rightful Player Returns

Having been nervously quiet until now, Sylvia speaks up. "It's a good point... if I could, I would have purified the waters here by now. I can feel its evil from here..." She shudders.

Eostre's Spellcraft, Pt. 2:
Upon further examination, you recall another detail about the waters of Lamashtu--although they're potency is greatest when imbibed, they could also be gathered up and used as a sort of splash weapon. A cruel splash weapon, but one nonetheless.

Essentially, if they're consumed, you take a -4 to Fortitude saves to avoid mutation. They can be used as a splash weapon if you gather them in a vial.

I kinda forgot to let you know this with your earlier Spellcraft roll. Argh.

Can the basin be knocked over?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

You can try... :) Anyway, for anyone going through the massive doors:

This huge room looks like nothing more than an immense underground cathedral. Stone doors
stand to either side of the main entrance, but beyond this, the walls are carved with strange, spiky runes. In the center of the room is a large pool, with a ring of polished human skulls balanced on stone spikes arranged in a circle around the deeper midsection. At the far end of the room, a pair of stone stairways leads up to a pulpit on which sits a second pool, this one triangular and filled with churning, bubbling water that looks almost like translucent lava. Yet while wisps of what look like heat and steam rise from the strange orange liquid, the room itself is deathly cold.

The stairways leading up to the triangular pool are guarded by another pair of monstrosities that greeted the party when they first arrived, both carrying ranseurs. A tiny, winged creature with horns and ragged robes is hovering over the pool, her head snapping forward when Conner & Ekan enter the room.

"Шумо ҷуръат гуноҳ дар соҳаи модар ҳаром ?! Шумо сазовори зону пеш аз вай нест!" The tiny winged creature snarls, raising her arm into the air over the pool. She produces a tiny knife from her robes and drags it along her arm, spilling black blood into the pool.

Thassilonian:
"You dare trespass in the domain of the Sacred Mother?! You are not worthy of kneeling before her!"

Immediately, the pool goes still before a blast of heat radiates from it. Something claws its way up from the depths of the pool--yet another of the monsters the party fought at the entrance. The glow the pool gives off dims considerably.

DC 20 Sense Motive:
The flying creature's face contorts into an expression of worry as it gazes upon the pool before glaring at the party again.

"Бикушед, онҳоро ба исми модар!" She commands the monsters, pointing at the party. The fight is on!

Thassilonian:
"Slay them in the Mother's name!"

The slight flapping of wings and arcane syllables issues from 10 feet above the party--the quasit has broken its invisibility and is casting a spell!

DC 17 Spellcraft:

Rubbing his hands together until a weird slippery goo appears between them, he tosses the goo over Conner's head and at the wrathspawns' feet. As he does this, he cries out, "Poor unlucky monsters, fighting Desna's favorites! Let's put 'em down!"

The newborn, however, is still unused to moving about on stone, let alone grease. It flails around and falls on its ass.

The remaining wrathspawn growls in frustration at seeing Conner's shield wall. It's forced to go around the north side of Conner, leaving itself wide open...

It manages to stagger through the grease, still wobbling.

"អ្នក ... នឹង ... មិនត្រូវបាន ... ល្អបំផុត ... ខ្ញុំ ..." It struggles to say before throwing itself at Ekan in a final desperate attempt to kill him.

Bite Attack *Flanking*: 1d20 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 + 2 = 20

Damage: 1d10 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8

The glaive sinks deeply into the beast's chest, and it gurgles its last breath as black blood streams down the weapon's shaft.

Sylvia glances at Ekan. "Please, help the others!"

Eostre swears in shock as the wolf materializes in front of her and brings Conner to the ground. She backs from the door into the hall, keeping her glaive in front of her.

Can Eostre attack? Or would that open her up to attack from the wolf?

She can attack without provoking if she takes a 5-foot step.

Will that work with Eostre's glaive? It's a reach weapon.
