Not many people know what really happened before the fall of Westcrown, an event now simply known as the Fall. Some have claimed it's judgement from on high - just punishment for a city overrun by chaos and sin. Others believe it the work of a sinister organization of killers and thieves known as the Council of Thieves. What really happened? Sometimes the truth is the worst of all...

Before the Fall, a group of vigilantes known as the Children of Westcrown, took to the streets on a mission to free the city of corruption and rid it of 'the Shadow Curse'. They were led by a man named Arael, a fugitive cleric of Iomadae, but came from all walks of life. As a group, they accomplished some amazing things and slowly built up a reputation as heroes among Westcrown's citizens. On the day of the Fall, that all ended.

It started with an explosion that leveled a sizable chunk of the city and filled its skies with hellfire but that cataclysm wasn't what began the Fall. The Children, lead by its most senior member, a priestess of Calistra went to investigate and stumbled into a Council ambush. The team of heroes was rocked, losing two of their members early in the battle, but just as they were rallying one of the fiends involved in the attack offered the priestess a deal. The Children could walk away with their lives in exchange for a document that she had - a document keeping a powerful Pit Fiend bound beneath Westcrown...

No one knows what was going through the priestess's mind at the time. Was it the lives of her friends and allies? The success of the Children's quest? Or something more personal?

Whatever her motivation, the Calistran gave in and surrendered the document. True to her word, the devil that had offered the deal allowed the surviving Children to go free - unmolested. Unfortunately, what followed next was worse than death.

No more than an hour after their retreat the Fall began...
