Well a chimera is ment to carry 12 troopers + gear in addition to the crew. Depending on how many we will actually be (including comrades) there might actually be enough room.
Given the child like mentality of orgryns I'd think that riding outside on it might actually be fun for them tho.

An autocannon is not a dedicated tank hunter weapon but they do 3d10+8 pen6 damage with 3 shots per round - making that a range of 17 - 44 Damage per shot(using pen as damage here because all vehicles have more than 6 armor) before fury.
So while that's not exactly 'vehicles goes boom' levels of damage it actually has a chance to damage a leman russ from the front or severely wreck it from the back - thats as close as we'll probably get to a tank hunter since even krak missiles 'only' do 2d10+4 pen8 and those are a single missile per round.

I still think our best bet is to bundle krak grenades for a massive damage - if we bundle 3 of them we already have 9d10+24 damage Pen(6-18 probably 6 I don't think the pen stacks) in a single blasts since they go off at the same time.

A reminder. If we do get a melta or the sort. And I man it on the vehicle perhaps. Not the best option, then i get to add my INT to its damage and pen. There are a few others i can get the bonus on as well

There's a comrade advance called "Gunner" which let's 'you' fire a weapon manned by your comrade while you're driving.

Still a melta only gets its double pen at short range - meaning at less than half its range(< 10m) which means you'd have to suicide rush a tank to actually take it down.

Heavy taking lascannon for tank hunting and getting heavy bolters on the chimera for decimating hordes seems like a pretty decent setup. Can you get the int bonus on heavy bolters as well?

- and if you're tech-savy enough then you might just take one of the heavy bolters off the chimera for the heavy to use while the tech priests aren't looking? ^^

Unfortunately:
Melta. Plasma. Power. Exotic only. And only one round per combat. But still.

Well. Tech savi. If i have a MUI connection. My roll is up to 60

Just grab one of those for personal use then. It's not like we can only get regimental standard gear.
Squad logistic rating starts at 10 and squad level nco(so - our sergeant) adds 20 to it for a total of 30
Meltas and Plasmaguns are very rare, so assuming there are multiple regiments where we're going and the war has been active for a while(they had the chance to train us for the war after all) we're somewhere around -20 for very rare -10 for freshly deployed and between +10 - +30 for the time the war is going on already.
Oh, and +20 if _any_ (not just our) regiment has those as their favoured weapon.

All in all a bit hard to get up front but not totally impossible.

I was thinking in the line of melta bombs =^^=

And later maybe a plasma/melta pistol for personal defence. But all this for down the line. But i do love the idea of a melta bomb with extra pen and damage =^^= things tend to go away really quickly

Yeah I remember throwing one of those at a summoning altar in a DW game - pretty much evaporated the altar, the cultists and the ritual as a whole(they have 5m range in DW, probably an astartes-size thing). Shame about that enemy psyker rolling perils into summoning a greater deamon instead ~

But I digress - Yeah sounds like a pretty good shopping list - hard to get but worth going after as often as possible.

Drive me closer so i can hit them with my bomb! *maniacly waving an armed, crackling, melta bomb in the air*

At least weld it to a metal pole first - that's a tried and proven method of a _certain_ group of guardsmen xD

And get called copy cats? I think not!

Scarab Sages

Calling what they had a "pole" might be an insult to rail poles everywhere.

I think it's ok if we have a weakness as a regiment. Maybe our zenos threat has no vehicles to speak of when we are raised. Our maybe they are just overwhelming in number and we get outfitted for that threat?

And "drive me closer I want to hit them with my Anything" will totally NOT get use copy-catcalls ; D
I wouldn't mind having a weakness either but the current heavies will have to play with the weapon so I'll vote neutral on this so they can decide what suits them =3

*whistles while walking away with meltabomb*

Uhm. Yes. Let those who will be in front decide. =^^=

Scarab Sages

My vote is anything NOT AOE. Because my guy will likely be in the enemy's face crushing skulls. Other than that I really don't care because I don't know enough about this game to have an informed opinion. :)

I had originally ruled myself out of this, but a couple of my games seemed to have died off and this is too good an opportunity to not at least have a pop at. So in the hope that I can get 2 characters up and ready by tmrw afternoon, here are some rolls.

@The Ghost of War: What would be your thoughts on reskinned a Ratskin as a weedy quartermaster type? Nubby/SSgt crapgame from Kelly's heroes/Corporal Upham from Saving Private Ryan? Will make something else for now and can always create one as my next character if I get in.

person 1:

Char 1: 2d10 + 20 ⇒ (5, 7) + 20 = 32
Char 2: 2d10 + 20 ⇒ (3, 1) + 20 = 24
Char 3: 2d10 + 20 ⇒ (8, 8) + 20 = 36
Char 4: 2d10 + 20 ⇒ (6, 7) + 20 = 33
Char 5: 2d10 + 20 ⇒ (9, 3) + 20 = 32
Char 6: 2d10 + 20 ⇒ (5, 3) + 20 = 28
Char 7: 2d10 + 20 ⇒ (2, 3) + 20 = 25
Char 8: 2d10 + 20 ⇒ (2, 3) + 20 = 25
Char 9: 2d10 + 20 ⇒ (3, 10) + 20 = 33
Reroll: 2d10 + 20 ⇒ (6, 8) + 20 = 34

Ok going priest.
Wounds: 1d5 + 9 ⇒ (2) + 9 = 11
Fate: 1d10 ⇒ 10 =3

And

Person 2:

Char 1: 2d10 + 20 ⇒ (2, 3) + 20 = 25
Char 2: 2d10 + 20 ⇒ (7, 10) + 20 = 37
Char 3: 2d10 + 20 ⇒ (5, 5) + 20 = 30
Char 4: 2d10 + 20 ⇒ (8, 8) + 20 = 36
Char 5: 2d10 + 20 ⇒ (3, 9) + 20 = 32
Char 6: 2d10 + 20 ⇒ (9, 5) + 20 = 34
Char 7: 2d10 + 20 ⇒ (8, 8) + 20 = 36
Char 8: 2d10 + 20 ⇒ (4, 2) + 20 = 26
Char 9: 2d10 + 20 ⇒ (5, 4) + 20 = 29
Reroll: 2d10 + 20 ⇒ (5, 6) + 20 = 31

Ok going weapon specialist
wounds: 1d5 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13
Fate: 1d10 ⇒ 9 =2

@Wilhelm: By all means yes you can.
That's for all of you: If you have a fun char concept in mind that does not quite fit into one of the presented classes, keep it in mind and tell me later on about it and we'll work together to get it done if possible.

I don't think anyone here is under any illusions about an autocannon Chimera taking on a Lehman Russ or similarly heavy tanks, but it should be at least reasonably competitive against targets in its weight class. I don't mind us not being able to reliable crack heavy armor; most infantry can't and isn't expected to, that's a job for specialized infantry or your own tanks. We'll probably be excellent at countering enemy infantry and light fieldworks though! So it's more a matter of sticking to what we know and running from the fights we're not equipped to handle (and let the party face sweet-talk the Commissar!)

Just had a terrifying terrific thought: Ghost of War, would it be possible to house-rule a cannister-shot type of ammo for an autocannon a la the Stuart's M6? A gigantic shotgun would be a rude surprise for a pack of orks :)

EDIT: I did have some thoughts about using the Commissar specialty to approximate an Imperial Intelligence officer, but I don't have anything concrete there. I can PM you if I decide that's something I want to do. Basically would use the same chassis but without a Commissar's status or authority.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

First: Don't let the enginseer see you doing it.
Second: Might get ugly if you fail hard on a BS test
Third: Don't let the enginseer see you doing it.
Forth: You will ned the appropriate raw materials, especially the gunpowder for the shot (fragments are easy enough to find at least) and manufacture a shell fitting the autogun.
Last: Don't let the enginseer see you doing it.
;-)

Apropos shotgun: We will rule with the original scatter rules. The erreta'ed ones are just plain stupid and makes a shotgun as terrifying at close ranges as an overloaded Lasgun with a red-dot scope (aka not-at-all)

Scarab Sages

Are the original rules in the campaign tab? I don't see them. This is important to me as my main weapon is essentially a massive shotgun.

Will put them up if I find some time.

@Ashora
We're guardsmen. We're mostly excellent at dying just slow enough that enough reinforcement will _eventually_ be mustered to overwhelm whatever killed us =3
(Which is why we need to have at least 1 character ready for replacement)

Well that's one theory :p

'fix raises an eyebrow at some of these heretical suggestions, at least she would if she had eyebrows. Not that you can actually see any of her face beneath her mask anyway. Your not even entirely sure whether she's a she or not with all the robes. The tinted lenses do seem to be looking pointedly in your direction however.

We're not even in the trenches yet and we are already going all heretek.

"You want to do WHAT to my chimera!?! You shall do no such thing. This is the first regiment raised from our planet and by Terra I'm not going to allow men of my squad tarnish its reputation. And you, Bekonnen, if I catch you out of uniform again I'll deliver you to the Commissar myself."-Sgt Dom

Hehehe.
Recruitment will close in apx. 24h from now, so last chance for late comers to put up their chars.

A chimera is merely a tool =^^=

"Sorry sir! Been reading the memoirs of Commissar-Colonel Ibrahim Gaunt again, and I agree with his assessment: the best form devotion to the Emperor is effective service in His name!"

"Commissar what now? That like a notebook how many honest guardsmen he shot in the back? Stay away from the crazy guys in black they won't even let me patch you up if you mess with them. And if you're already messing with the car then add a bunk where I can put whats left of you."

"As long as she can move and shoot, and if you dont mess up the paint job, dont include me in your antics"

Meanwhile, the mountain of flesh that is your shock troop squad looks on like a child watching a government policy lecture. As most of the words flying about go clean over his head he picks up a blasted tire and chews on it absentmindedly.
His companion/caretaker/translator named Notch sits nearby cleaning his oversized weapon. He translates some of what's said into the Ogryn's rough language. The abhuman grunts and keeps gnawing on military grade rubber.

I've worked out the characters and their backstory, but I won't get a chance to type them up before the deadline due to family bits that I had forgotten about. I will post them up tmrw, because I have made them now and also because hopefully they can act as a marker to put me on the reserve list. Good luck everyone, I will be following what promises to be a great adventure and waiting for people to fall by the wayside.

The Emperor wouldn't have sent us the giant if he didn't want us to stand behind him and shoot the enemy. Praise Be. Simmins Olways sighs as he checks and rechecks to make sure his stubber is in good working order.

"Who died and made you a priest? At least make sure to give it some covering fire if you plan to hide behind it."

"How nice of my squad to volunteer for latrine duty. For the next month. Celephix can remind you of the proper Rites and alignment of our Chimera's Autocannon while you dig."-Sgt Dom

Covering fire is what I do Ms Leni. Olways nods at the Medic respectfully. He wasn't going to get on the bad side of the only person in the crew who could stitch him back to life.

To Dom he says Heck Sarge, Latrines are even safer than behind Ogryns. I've only seen someone shot in there maybe once o twice.

"Sounds like fun. Digging in some other kind of dirt. And on a serious note at least get the technophile to install a winch. I'm not going to be able to drag the big guy back into cover alone and I'd rather you guys keep shooting than help out."

After a quick translation, the Ogryn scowls at the medic. NEVER SUSPENDER. NEVER RETEAT. he says in a huge, gravelly voice. It's the most intelligible of the three things he's said all day.

I see my question had gotten missed in all the conversations.

Was there still room in this group ?

I thought it answered with my deadline being the end of this day - until my finish-post in about 8-10 hours. So yes you can still toss in a character, I will choose the group from all the posted characters then, as there are already more than the limit of 6 players applying.

"We are indeed all just tools, whether ones with souls or with machine spirits." 'fix caresses her mechedendrite momentarily. "Some of us are shaped into what we need to be, others..." she glances at the un-enhanced among the team "... get to live out their lives as they were created."

Well, as i am work, and cannot acess my books until the morning, i will pull out. However if there is space open up later, i will gladly set one up then.

END OF RECRUITMENT PERIOD
Thanks for the interest and all the nice characters to choose from.
It will take some time to select, so keep tight and have a nice Christmas party with your loved ones in the mean time.

Looking forward to see who goes out to die =^^=

So here is the summery of applications I parsed from the thread. Please all have a look if I missed someone ;-)

Simmins Olways - Heavy Gunner
Choon - Ogryn + 3 others
SpinningDice - Tech-Priest "Celephix", Weapon Specialist "Siar"
DeadTejon - Operator "Bekonnen" + Sargent "Dominique"
LizardWizard - Storm Trooper + 2 others Cant find alias' so I think your thread posts have to do
CMD-keen - Medic "Leni" + 5 others
CrusaderWolf - Sniper "Ashora" + 2 others
Slipstreams - Sargent "?"
Seth86 - Demo-Operator "Ren'Shaw"

Neato, thought I had posted the Characters name in the spoiler with Faye Marbray. Once I get some free time and Jetlag stops murdering me, I'll get the alias and backstory down ASAP. Sorry if I haven't been posting much but pre x-mas activities what with visiting the family and all has meant no real time to sit down and get everything done. D:

I'll also roll up some extra characters when I get to finalising the aforementioned Background and alias.

I'm there :)

Reporting

Scarab Sages
