Leni slowly deflates from furious-unhappy to just a little anoyed and feeling the length of the night.
"Not bad sarge, they're getting their asses here at full speed. I'd honestly prefer to give the medical report myself tho after they SPECIFICALLY ask for it."
She counts on her fingers:
" First of all the commissar is not stable. He's just not currently busy dying from bloodloss. And you forgot to mention the two flame troopers who need a new set of skin. Oh, and yourself of course. Which reminds me: You have 30 seconds to get into one of the beds. You're directing this outfit via combead for the forseeable future."

Female Human Rank 1 Sergeant

"Well, private, if you want to communicate directly with their Sister Hospitaller and properly update her on the Commissar's situation in a manner that won't cause undue panic, you are free to do so. Also, while they are a bit crispier, the [flamer bros] aren't dying...are they? Nor am I for that matter, I am perfectly fi-" she interrupts herself as her knees buckle from under her and almost cause her to smash her face against the vox unit.

"O.K, maybe not all THAT fine, but come on, Leni, I can't be bedridden!" she states, trying to stand back up with very-noticeably shaky legs.

In stark contrast to the Sergeant, the three Ogryn have started disposing of the dead orcs and burying the dead humans in rapid fashion.

Leni Tivnan Medic BS32 WS25 S29 A28 T25 I63 Will32 Fel30 Per26 Hp15/15 Fate2/2+1 Ins0 Cor7 30/30 4spare

"Na, not going to call them back after they hung up like some overdue boyfriend. The flame troopers actually ARE stable... right now. See the 'crispier' part is actually their skin flaking off in black ashy snowflakes. You know what the skin is for? Keeping all those bad viruses and bacteria out of the body. So while they are not currently burning to death they have set up business and are currently inviting all the bad crap that is in the air. See how this will turn out badly for them very soon?

As for you... You're not exactly bed ridden. I'd probably let you stay up if this was some kind of one time mission. But you're not going to get any better like this and you'll have to command us tomorrow. And the day after tomorrow. And the day after that. And you know what? No commissar either to do all that anoying commanding business so you'll be twice as business."
For each day she mentions she pokes Faye in the chest, slightly tipping her over backwards so she'll have to take a step back to rebalance on the shakey legs. Unless she does something to stop this she'll end up with one of the field beds just behind her back by the end of the list.
"So. Bed rest for the next one or two days or would you prefer to spend the rest of our time out here like this? That is unless you find something ork-ish to finish the job early. Maybe the sister has some super secret method to help there but I kinda doubt that. Feel free to ask her tho."

Female Human Rank 1 Sergeant

Being way too proud to fall to her knees as the medic pokes her in the chest, Faye will keep backing up since her legs buckling once was embarrassing enough.

Once her legs touch the field beds behind her she quickly nods in a 'well played' manner to Leni before straightening herself up as much as her body would currently let her and replies "Alright, fine, you're the doc. But, I'd better well be appraised of ANYTHING suspicious or even REMOTELY green and living that pops up in that no-mans-land. We've already lost too many men and I'm not losing any more while I can't actively do anything about it. Also, while we're on the subject, I've heard that the Sisters can get a bit...crazy...so...try and keep an eye on her if she insists on checking up on everyone, alright?"

Leni Tivnan Medic BS32 WS25 S29 A28 T25 I63 Will32 Fel30 Per26 Hp15/15 Fate2/2+1 Ins0 Cor7 30/30 4spare

"Indoctrinated nuns with lots of sharp and pointy things they fully intend to stick people with. What ever could make you think they might be less than normal?" Leni grins.
"They are supposed to be good with burns too. No worries sarge, you're still in command. So you might want to just make that part about being told about everything an order to everyone" she taps her combead to indicate it, not to activate vox traffic.
"Anything bad enough to get us moved out from the bunker will force you up anyway. Just not the day-to-day shooting of orks from max lasgun range."

I will move things forward now.
@Leni: Please give me a set of ... 5 medicae rolls for the wounded found in the southern bunker by Ashora (or if your brain kicks in in a silent moment and you remember the reason for moving towards the southern trenches in the first place). Consider the wounded to be @-6 critical, mostly from shrapnel wounds. Every success is a soul saved, every failure a dead greenhorn.
@Thud'dr: Give me a Toughness -10 roll for burying the dead into frozen ground, which is rather tasking for even your body after such a night... Otherwise your comrade might remind you that vehicles are coming to bring supplies and surely will take back the imperial's dead for actual burial.

The third day in the trenches dawn with a red sky that looks like blooded whool. The snow slowly melts and appears like an endless stream of blood due to the red sky. The trenches becomes so muddy, that you try to not walk through them to not get stuck or loose your boots halfway. Everyone and everything stenches like it just passed through a swamp, with a little note of burning promethium, burned flesh and decomposition mixed in.
Around 7 o'clock you hear vehicles closing in from the east.

CHECKPOINT.
Every restores one fp.

The Captain arrives with his command Chimera and two civilian trucks that have clearly seen better days. The small convoy came to a halt on the street above the tunnel linking the trenches, a few meters before the minefield. You can see the Captain opening the top hatch of the Chimera through the top hatch, looking over the trenchline. His gaze wanders over the wreckage of Sledgehammer, the badly damaged southern bunker and the row of dead bodies, most of them from the 3rd and 4th. Finally he looks over the pile of dead Orks, still deeply frozen, that litters the ground some distance to the west.
The ramp of the Chimera slams open and his personal Stormtrooper Squad marches out, securing the perimeter with their hellguns at the ready. Behind them an older Sister Hospitaller leaves the APC, with two local nurses and a medical servitor in tow. Finally a priest and an engineseer makes their exit looking over the trenches, the later followed by three heavy duty servitors and a quickly dissipating flock of servo skulls.
Out of the two civilian trucks comes a flock of around two dozen guardsmen looking over the mess of the imperial line and the state of the defenders with blank and shocked eyes.
While the sister walks straight to Leni and asks her in a harsh, commanding voice to guide her to the wounded, the enginseer sets of with his servitors to patch the bunkers and the priest walks towards the fallen, offering a quick prayer for each soul before calling the new arrived soldiers to help him carry the bodies into the trucks.
Cpt. Knutr – who walks around in his normal uniform despite the still quite chill temperature – descends from the turret of the chimera and heads straight to Sgt. Marbray.
With his deep, growling voice - which is full of his still foreign accent - he starts to talk while still a few meters from her. "Yuv'bin hit hart, Sgt? Ya all luk lik shit! Kommandos I't guess." He spits out in disgust. "Yu'an yer men r'eiter lucky or 've more in yer gren bones than I't bet on. Bot'r goot fer te propr guardsmen. Let te white lady watch yer men and yerself. Tose who'r hit hardest will be rotated back for some days of sack-time R'n'R. Have brought some more green blood fer restocking yer trenches."

Sooo, everyone who suffered at least one critical wound gets a free RnR ride back to town (this to your character roster). If you want to stay - nobody really is holding you, but play that IC and I guess most are more than willing to leave that shithole?
If anyone who would have to stay behind (Ashora comes to the mind) also wants to 'save' her character for later and start with a new, we can work out a reason. Just let me know.
Those who swap out, will arrive with one of their backup characters - your choice (if you are quick and create a new one you can do that as well).

Female Human Rank 1 Sergeant

I kinda really like Faye and how she kinda-almost-but-not-quite died to Kommandos (imo pretty baller for some newbie guardsmen to have survived) so her and her bruised ass will very much take up the offer to GTFO since she took 2 Explosive Crit damage to her legs when the first nade hit us in the bunker.

Will post with him once I'm up and have made his Alias.

Leni will have to be 'reminded' by Ashora about the wounded in the southern bunker. In her mind the commissar deciding to come towards us ment he'd be bringing the wounded along so they could be treated faster - so she expects them to be long dead in the tunnel - not having shown up on the preysense on account of being trampled to mulch and covered in snow by the orgrynn stampede.

First up would be the 2 orgrynn thought who are at 1 or 2 crit according to the +60 med spoiler?

Leni works furiously on the wounded in the southern bunker but most of them are too far gone already. Only the very last one she treats is looking up and once she's done working on him she throws down her medkit, tells Aubray to watch over the patient and leaves the bunker. She doesn't go far, just around the corner of the bunker. Letting herself fall against the wall and slowly slide down until she sits deep in the snow and borrows her head in her arms, huddled up in a quite miserable ball of failure.
She's back up and looking after the commissar and Faye by the time the captain rolls up, just looking a little worse for wear with puffed up eyes and drenched uniform.
Not losing her streak of practicality tho she makes sure to scrounge up a bunch of ammo packs and 1 or 2 still working preysense googles from the dead who didn't die under her care.

I quite like the character but I'll keep her on the frontline until the regular rotation sets in. She still has work to do.
No ep for fighting/medicing off a bunch of wild kommandos tho? xD

Ashora watches the witch out of the corner of her eye, remembering the xeno's mind-warping weirdness from the night before. Struggling to conceal a shudder, she turns back to surveying the distant hills. Pointing at the charred vehicles out in no-man's-land, "So who's in charge right now? Before the xenos hit us day before yesterday we were talking about dragging all that wreckage over to this side to increase our cover & decrease theirs, probably still not a bad idea."

Malchior suddenly whips his head around. "Speaking of, where the hell did our Chimera and driver get off to? After such a close call I don't want to let that much firepower out of my sight."

The machine-man and his man-machine's are doing a good job repairing the standard-construct bunkers, ripping away the damaged parts with heavy duty arms, replacing them with steel stripes and multiple layers of plasteel sprayed from a tank on the back of one of the weirdest looking servitors any of you ever saw. One of the servitors walks along the razorwire line, drawing another line of wire right behind the first one. Doombringer pulls back the imperial wreckage on the battleground under the command of the Enginseer (via his servo skulls).
Meanwhile the Sister Hospitaller walks from injured to injured, inspecting the work of Leni, mostly nodding, sometimes stopping by to replace a bandage, spraying syntoskin from a small arm-mounded medical multitool on burned wounds and removing small fragments from open wounds. As she passes by Leni at last, she will wave her over for a quick talk.
Leni:

"You did a great job, Pvt. Tivnan. I recognize the work of my Sisters when I see one. You were educated in a proper hospital rather than in one of those meatball field curses, I guess?
Good for you - and ever better for your patients.
Take this, it should help your work. And now sit down, calm down and let me see to those burn wounds of yourself, girl. You have to keep up that good work by the Emperor. I cannot have you walk around like this..."

She first hands you a small baggage. It is signed with the symbol of her Ordo: a small burning torch on pitch-black ground.
If you later inspect it - or ask - you discover it to some kind of inflatable mattress, but including a roof and walls - completely surrounding the bed in the center and thus shielding it from the environment. The bed is large enough for an Ogryn - or three normal patient. Its made of a quite durable material and can be inflated/deflated within two minutes by an integrated mechanism.
Then she lays you down inside the currently empty command chimera, pokes you with a needle - causing your body to go all numb and your head to fill with some kind of whitenoise - removes your uniform and sets to work. At first you cannot guess what shes working (for you're face down) but later as she turns you around after ten minutes of work - you can follow her actions.
But you would have wished you couldn't.
With a small beam extracting from her multitool she removes the burned skin in large layers, then sprays multiple layers of bioplast and synthskin on the now open flesh. Despite the large amount of skin she replaces in such a way, the operation is done within half an hour - a time the best doctors on your hospital would not have met - in a full equipped operation room nonetheless.
"That should do it. Not my best work, but given time no one will see a difference I guess. Just keep it down for today. Thats an order Private!
Your new skin will tingle for a bit as soon as the narcotic wears off."

Then she turns to leave, waving two of your squad over, to help you stand up and lay down somewhere "clean".
You heal all damage points received from the fire incident - I guess that's all damage but the last 2-3 points from the Ogryn-incident?

Others:

As Leni is led away by the Sister to the command truck, she looks bad. Most of the skin of her arms and probably body is badly burned, covered with heat blisters and she was careful in her movements, clearly under pain.
As she returns, about half an hour later and steadied by two of you, her skin is all new and white and she has a slight, dreamlike grin on her face.

Leni smiles a bit ruefully at the praise and mumbles something vaguely sounding like "Not enough" but inspects the item curiously before being laid down.
She watches the procedure as carefully as the whitenoise allows - it is weird seeing it being done to herself but having seen so much it doesn't really bother her since she doesn't actualy fellt it(jaded)
She nods at the order of the sister and salutes weakly before letting herself getting dragged off.
Up to 11Hp, removing fire leaves only the orgrynn damage which was 10-6armor-2toughness = 4

Comming back to the group Leni seems pretty out of it but some things still seem to trigger a core of understanding - altho seeing her with a dreamy grin and no swearing at all probably seems a little creepy to the squaddies that know her from basic training.
She takes off her uniform jacket before sitting down on it cross-legged and sways left and right while sitting. She doesn't overbalance so that's probably intentional. She takes out one of the ration bars and lazilly gnaws on it until she focuses on the commissars black coat in the distance and starts rummaging through her backpack

Sir, Will Keep Head Down. Yes Sir! Olways does a crip salute as the specialists and the crack troops and armor that accompanied the captain and the commissar prepare to leave.

Well there goes are only chance of not getting swamped by greenskins Cort says bitingly as the convoy departs.

Shut it Cort, or you'll get a bullet to the head for insubordination. Olways chides his mate. Would rather it be used on an ork

As the drugged up medic comes back, Monia rakes her mind for anything she could do to abate the effect of the medicine on her but...looking at her go, decided it was a bit more amusing to leave her to it instead.

As the call for attention rings out, she snaps to it almost inhumanely quickly and is perhaps one of the first on the "parade-grounds". The less reason they had to question her, the better.
Since I have a telekinesis power, and thus training in the school, could I subtly use a minor manifestation to help Leni get past muster for the Captains departure? ie: negating any noise the ration bar falling from her mouth by catching it before it hits the floor and/or facing her in the right direction? :p

Once they are dismissed she heads back to the bunker to await orders but otherwise busies herself with centering meditation and, when not doing that, acquainting herself with the surroundings.

"I'm noticing quite a few fresher-looking explosion craters in and around the trench, how many Orks were there that they got into such close proximity?" She asks over the teams combead.

Leni, still sitting back with the group, shudders as she hears the word orks. Totally forgetting about the combead or the need to activate it she slurs: "Many orksh? Na not sho many. Tshusht stinky purple orksh. Untidy stinky purple orksh that leave their shtuff and their sthuff goes boom when you go closhe"

As the trucks gets smaller in the distance and the squads starts to chatter about past battles, the Commissar turns around to look at the present soldiers.
His eyes wander over the utterly muddy, partially destroyed uniforms and weapons of those soldiers who stayed behind, the worried looks of those newcomers and the swaying medic on the ground grinning mildly.
Out of a sudden he starts to yell at those before him in a oversnapping, shrill tune that seems to transmit solid disgust.
"Laziness gives birth to heresy, soldiers! Move it, there is work to be done!
You!"
, he points at 1d4 ⇒ 3 Ashora, "Your appearance is an insult to any proper guardsmen. Give praise to the Emperor that we are fighting Orks and not heretics, or I would have shoot you on first sight, deeming you an enemy scout! Try to look like a proper soldier before your effect on morale if worse enough for me to use your death as an example!
"

His icy gaze wanders over the still cross-legged medic of the group.
"Why are you grinning like a madman, woman?! Are you addicted to your own painkillers? I will have your head on stakes if that is the cause for this insolence!
You Marsian! Take the Ogryn and as many soldiers you need and construct trench roofs from whatever material you can lay your servo arm on.
These rat-holes you call 'Trenches' will do nothing against a heavy artillery strike!
Everyone else, form two groups. The first will be on guard duty, the others go to sleep. Swapping of guard shifts in 6 hours.
Now move it, and behave like proper guardsmen!"

Leni pouts a bit at the shouting before answering while slowly getting up "Not mine shire, no. Shishta gave me when putting all that new shkin on" she points at the line between the ashen-black only slightly burned skin and the snow-white sororitas synth-skin on her cheek, then on her arm, then her other arm. "Shomething went bang when we gone drag dat other guy in black back afta he got ouch'd by da orksh. Got 'im unleeky sho sho not sho bad done" She actually tries that salute again. Still looks sloppy but at least she's up now.

"As you direct, Commissar." Celephix makes her way over to find some salvage.

The vehicles got towed back while everyone was here, yes? If so start off by disassembling the xenos vehicles.

Only Imperials Vehicles were pulled back, for possible future collection and salvation.

Fair enough

"First task, let's see what we have to work with."

Inspect the recovered vehicles and if they look like they can be brought back to life, leave them alone for now, if not see if we can retrieve any armour plating for the bunker initially, can work on salvaging anything else later.

Commissar Heindl fixates Leni for some awkward seconds after her reply, then waves her away.
"Your part of the sleepers group for now.
If your still high on your next guard shift, I can only guess that you're a junky... and I will not tolerate that.
Not even on the only medic within two clics.
Now get out of my way!"

Celephix walks around the vehicles, scanning the damage they suffered. There certainly is nothing you could do to bring them back to live, but you have seen Magi reconstructing battle tanks from nothing but twisted, charred metal frames, so you cannot be sure whether you should salvage them or let them in their current state from purely technical point of view. Give me a Common Knowledge War+10 / Mechanicus+20 roll, to guess what would happen to these wracks
The bunkers were repaired by the servitors and the Enginseer accompanying the Captain. You guess, that they and the linking tunnel currently offers the best protection against all but direct artillery hits.

Jaw tight, Ashora snaps off a salute and moves towards the bunker to take a sleep shift--it occurs to her that it's been upwards of 20 hours since she rested.

"We literally just saw an action that took out half the units here, and he's pitching a fit about dirty knees? What a pompous ass." she mutters angrily to herself.

Will turn in and get some rest for 5 hours, getting up and putting a modicum of effort into making her combat kit presentable."

After a full day of nature and work the Ogryns are exhausted. They take first sleep and almost immediately pass out upon reaching the bunkers. Oddly enough, Ogryn do not tyoically snore. It's a liability in the quiet frozen wastes.

Celephix:

While theoretically possible, most complete destroyed vehicles are simply recycled or even left on the battlefield for civilians to collect the resources after the war is decided.
The efforts necessary to restore destroyed vehicles are simply too high.
Only were skilled workers and supplies are abundantly available (like on a forge world or other world with a high Mechanicus presence) will such an effort be undertaken on a greater scale.
