Honestly, with how Orks are in the fluff, I think anything short of a Space Marine stabbing them in the head while in full power armour is unlikely to instagib them so the above seems fair enough:
It more or less instakills a regular human or weaker as one would expect so Human-Like xenos would also be affected like Eldar (if by some miracle you sneak up on them), Tau, etc.
Stuff like Space Marines, Orks, Necrons (I mean..theyre metal), Tyranids, etc I feel shouldnt be instagibbed in this manner; probably SEVERELY injured depending on the roll (assuming basic knife).
It also makes weapons like the Power Dagger more interesting to have as a stealth-kill power weapon.
So yeah, the above seems fair enough to me and good to have clarified beforehand since we're all Solid Snake for the next while apparently :p

Check out the 'Ambush' talent Kalemis has taken - if helpless target = automatic success then it would probably provide DoS along the lines of your WSB+3(Thats maximum DoS rolled against unaware without further mods)
Once you hit 40WS thats 7DoS for 3 extra damage, or 6 with the 2 attacks
Not helping here and now but if you want to go down the backstabber road that should help quite a bit.
The Ghost of War |
There's lots of awesome talents for that (read: Catachan Skilltree).
Like Streetfighting (Ork get this for free those bastards!): If delivering Critical Damage, increase damage by YOUR WS-B! Usually enough to bring the ol'boring 1 level of fatigue effect up to the "Test Toughness or die messily" region.
Add Crippling Strike on top for additional +2 Critical to instagib people once you reach critical region.
Push up the damage of your knife with the 'creative killer' talent to d10-1.

Hmmm I was typing while Keen posted already.
I was under the impression you would take the distraction also with you, because no one was sent out to place it 'a click to the north'. You just asked for a distraction, Gyver Vyger told you what he has in stow and then you decided to move your ambush further towards the camp?
Cmd-Keen Commissar |
The distraction and the ambush are 2 different things.
The distraction was ment to be set _before_ we even move into the spotlight range because as it is non-lethal it does not actually need to be too close to the camp, only be very much loud enough to draw attention.
- Group goes 1km north
- Specialists set distraction
- group goes 1km south(back to original)
- Specialists prepare Ambush explosives
- group moves forward
- Specialists only have to 'drop' the trap while going forward
I don't see why we would be taking any more risks than that willingly.
And on that note: In my mind the distraction is timed - first the first smoke goes off, then the crackers start simulating shooting, so not all of them at once but bundle by bundle. After a while the 2nd nade goes off (roughly when the first would stop blocking line of sight)
-> A very crude impression of someone firing out of the smoke. Maybe enough to catch some ork brains.
Since there is no risk involved and the group does not split up for it I assumed it was compressed in the 'going forward' timeskip. 1km is 13 minutes according to google maps at a leasurly walking pace so being military trained going somewhat stealthily shouldn't be too much longer and 26 minutes for safety doesn't sound so bad when 4 hours are left.
=> use as much time to prepare while safe as possible. sounds familiar? =3

Pretty sure its more of a case of 'over specifing' as I was trying to brief about the plan in-character rather than writing it out as 'we do something'
This post lines out the plan as stated -> http://paizo.com/campaigns/WelcomeToTheGuard/gameplay&page=24#1197
Anything after that was refining the plan by taking the input from others into account.
I'll make sure to put "We get X done, then Y" in so there's absolutly nothing left open for interpretation ; P
The Ghost of War |
Sure, that would have suffice - if you stayed there and prepared the ambush, sending the others in.
But then there was a change of plans, to set up the ambush closer to the camp.
So I thought: "Yeah pretty much that, but some 300m closer to the camp."
Anyway no harm done, no one died and the IN-Team is at the 500m mark!

*rolls 100*
Your tiny grenade launcher and ~30 grenades all simultaneously explode and a Vortex appears where you once stood. Apparently in typical munitorum fashion, they mixed up some grenades and a Vortex Grenade made its way into your supplies despite having been painted and marked out as being a regular frag!
I can see it now...
The Ghost of War |
In fact jam's from launchers are *not funny*.
By raw:
- Jam with launcher / grenades / missiles / whatever
-> roll d10: 1..9 = dud, 10=BOOOM!
-> With launchers you're *somewhat* lucky, because they blow up inside, destroying the weapon and dealing half-damage to the user (and probably bystanders)
Just saying ...
Cmd-Keen Commissar |
Remember you can alway fatepoint-burn to make all orks in your way spontanously combust. Or their camp has been under tunneled by squigs and collapses, all except 1 square meter around you ;)

Sorry GoW, have been apartment/job hunting since getting back to the US, and have only locked in the former! A couple of my games' posting rate has suffered for it, sorry. I'll try to get back into the swing of things soon, luckily Adroit is the strong silent type.
The Ghost of War |
Added a 'Current NPCs' Spoiler to the campaign tab as a quick lookup of npc names that are around you - if feasable.
Also you are all free to come up with random grunt names if talking to some random guardsman - speed things up and keeps me from inventing more ridiculous ripp-offs or clichees.
Also note that I added a 'Battle Group Gamma-12' in the campaign tab with a list of vehicle (names), their respective armament and troops. Also the names of each vehicles commander/pilot.

Guys, I have good news and bad news. The good news is that I have *just* landed one of my dream jobs.
The bad news is that it is over 40hrs/week and so my gaming time will be severely hampered. I am sorry to say that Kalemis & Kail will have to withdraw from the game, but I've thoroughly enjoyed playing with all of you and I hope you have great fun going forward!
Death to the enemies of the God-Emperor.
Cmd-Keen Commissar |
Well, don't think a commissar is letting one of his charges off the hook that easily. You'd better do your best for the betterment of the Imperium in your new position or I'll have to find and... reeducate... you.
Just kidding of course. I wish you best of luck(and lots of fun!) in your new job. Come back if you ever see the chance =3
The Ghost of War |
Jup, smearing yourself with dirt certainly helps with stealth in this situation and provides a +20 on the roll...
... but, only against awareness rolls made by sight, making yourself a new skin-color does not help against hearing your fumble or smell your sweat, does it?
This demented Awareness-vs-Stealth-Game with Orks is really a "Who did worst" kind of thing, since they face a roll of ~15 or something before modifiers (like ... being distracted, drunken or dead), so even if you fumble your stealth by a few DoF, it does not mean you get noticed at all xD
Aurius Thantus |
Yeah, when both sides are pretty blegh at an opposed skill test, its pretty hilarious and usually is resolved by "Who sucked the hardest?"
Its like, walking around hitting a metal trashcan but the dude you have to avoid is somehow listening to music that incorporates that sound and doesnt realize anything.
Or whatevs.
Cmd-Keen Commissar |
Demented is right. Who's idea was this again?
Lt. Harkers actually. He thought flattening the sh!thole would take too much ammo and head we have some super stealthy storm troopers around.
And those storm troopers are supposed to be watching you and like... every now and again point out that you'd be much more stealthy if you stopped bashing those plate mines together like cymbals ; DThe Ghost of War |
Oh Choon, what are you doing? Was it not enough to sketch the imperial attack route on a paper and leaving it near an Ork camp ... why would you blow yourself up as well? Before the court that is? ^^
1. Where does that -20 come from? I can't remember enforcing that on you? Your sheet tell me that you are trained in tech-Use so you should not suffer the -20 from untrained?
2. The thing with roll d10 is for launcher weapons, so if you would have rolled that with your weapon, it would work that way.
3. Now ... if setting explosives with the Tech-Use ability ... if you suffer 4 or more DoF ... *Boom*
4. So you ... *may* ... want to spend a fate point on a reroll?
Cmd-Keen Commissar |
Okay ~ having that trained was the sole reason for sending you in along with them. Note the explanation: Lind should have access to your records so I looked through the character profiles. ^^"
OC: Sorry for getting you into that mess
IC: Well, the commissar had his reasons
^^"
Cmd-Keen Commissar |
I always remember the rule that you can ready a weapon during a charge when this comes up but by now it happened often enough that I'm sure thats from Pathfinder ^^"
I'll be at the Conquest of Mythodea tomorrow till sometimes sunday.
I'll continue to post daily as long as the laptop charge lasts but don't hesitate to bot if necessary =3
