A note on medical treatment: while not completed done, you still got a nice long rest under medical supervision, so I'll rule you recover a third of the wounds you would have during a complete treatment. So if I get it right, thats 4 wounds for Monia and Thud'dr


@Cel: First a Intelligence +30 test to remember the EXACT layout of the mines you placed. Then an Agility +30 test to move through the field CAREFULLY. Finally a Tech-Use test to disarm the mine. You will have to beat the amount of DoS you had when setting the mines (guess you had 2) to successfully disable it. 4 DoF+ on that test will set the mine off.


@Monia: You don't know shit about such things. But recalling the finding of Ashora in the burned truck you may think it as a possibility. BUT the power explicitly states that you need line of sight on your target and the target is the pilot NOT the walker he sits in. Would work for a open-topped type of vehicle like bikes/trucks but not for something enclosed like a walker or an actual tank.

Leni had the extra frags distributed when they were found and ordered double
nades to Thudd since he got the arms to throw them straight into the eye of
terror from where he stands.

No idea if they went flying on the impact tho but anything fastened to the
person like nades or mags in the combat webbing of the uniform would probably
just fly along with the person?

Am I playing with some very dangerous and daemonic fire? Yes.

Will it be worth it if I can push the Killa Kan over, even for a turn for us to shoot its butt or something and/or not get murdered for a little while longer? Yes.

Don't worry. Driving cannonfodder(note: that includes all of us) insane while nuking some baddies is totally within your job description. Might even be the center part to be honest =D
And you'll even get your WP back - statistic damage is never permanent unless specifically stated - usually only from Crit Damage

You might want to note that you can FP reroll both phenomena and perils tho.
You can even reroll both if things go really shitty and you have 2 FP(like rerolling phenomena but getting perils again, then get a BAD perils roll)

Yeah, I wasnt sure on the FP reroll to perils and I considered it but having gotten something that wasnt instadeath, greater daemon possession or massed possession, I can live with what I got.

But yeah, even with 12 less WP I can still play it fast and loose if I need to, though hopefully the KK does get knocked down kraks to the ass will hopefully do something.

FP reroll is freaking powerful as you can force a reroll of any test made by,
for or against you - that even includes forcing the gm to reroll his to-hit
rolls of that lascanon aimed at your face or the scatter test for that artillery
that happened to land on your head =3

It is somewhat balanced while on the table because you have to declare you want
something rerolled before the effect hits - no waiting to have a shot rerolled
until you're sure the damage will kill you.
Doesn't really work thay way in PbP since the gm posts all rolls and events in
one go.

Also: I think you just gave away that we're playing in a universe with Malal, since the whispers are talking about 5 true gods =D

We're also looking at its front armor right now, maybe Thud could strafe around it? I think most Walkers have equal Front/Side armor but maybe it'll get dumb/angry enough to show us its ass?

Also @GM: how are we doing the Called Shots on a vehicle? With my post before I was assuming the vehicle targeting rules worked as written, with "Weapons" being one of the four vehicle categories and Size still applies--but that also includes having to fully bypass the Armor of your facing so as-written my first shot wouldn't have done any damage (second might've if the missing third d10 was a good roll).

I'm fine with whatever, but it'll help make calculations in the future if I know how to assess my chances.

@Group: the execrable xenos use lots of vehicles it seems, we should invest in the Tank Hunter talent (from Hammer of the Emperor) when we get the chance.


@Ashora: Usually you would be right ... But these ARW Orks and the weapons are really just slapped on the hull, little bit covered with armor so there is a reasonable chance to hit the barrels. No chance to do so on a proper vehicle weapon with good armor plating and stuff though. Same if you would target the melee weapons of the walker.

I agree that the talent is good. What we faced so far should be enough reason to
get the talent for Ashora and Simmins(IC) but our not shooty focused specialists
will probably have to grab specialist focused talents first.

Looking over the Hammer Talents, Abiding Resilience looks awesome for Thudd.

I still have half a mind to grab +5 agi and sprint as first advance tho because
running twice as fast every 2nd round sounds like a real life saver.

For Leni I'll probably spend the first EP learning a lot of skills - medicae
+10, Awareness, Dodge, Navigate Surface, Command(Maybe), Tech Use(Maybe) because
not having them brings me down to like 6 for their tests and thats a little TOO
low for comfort.

Talents I'm gunning for:
- Sprint
- Master Chirurgeon
- Shooty talents (Called shots without penalties, No penalties for long range.)
Probably going to be eaten by other talents that become important during the
game before we get to that =3

All assuming we survive that far - and even if we do the characters might be
rotated off duty when we get ep and we start with the next batch =3

Abiding resiliance would be better if I had more than one fate point. Alas, I only have the one so I'm tempted to delay that one until I get my toughness ridiculously high.

As for rotation, Thud will be rotated out when the chance comes. He's taken an absurd amount of damage and I really want to bring my explosives trooper against these vehicles. :)

Ok, so I'm no longer sure how to make a mortar crew or explosives trooper within the basic rules. Are they their own group? Can I switch proficiencies? Or do I just make a standard trooper and just use XP to fill in the holes?


Demolition trooper would be an operator as he got tech use skill and matching aptitudes.
For mortar probably a heavy weapon guy would be matching.

There is dedicated demo trooper called breacher as adv speciality in hammer of
the emperor but that only becomes available once we hit 2.5k ep
There is also a weird specialisation called master of ordinance who can call in
artillery strikes and actually can have his comrade fire a mortar from out of
sight.
Only war lets you do anything with anyone tho - build a trooper that can use it
and grab the stuff via logistics tests.
Only difference is how much ep it costs to get that far ->aptitudes =3

Well there are 2 ways you can go about it.
If anyone wants to specialise in getting equipment then you can make an opposing commerce Test with an Npc the GM throws at you depending on the kit.

The normal way is pure logistics which works like this:
Squad logistic rating: starts at 10
Rank asking: Fresh Recruit +5, Trooper +10, Sarge +15, Commisar +50
Just arrived at the Front: -10
Front active: longer than 3 years: +30
Item availability: Rare for a Mortar, multiple Regiments in the war: -10
War condition: Violent impasse(might change with the push?) -10
= 20 By my count
Might want to try for a grenade launcher instead. Pretty much a direct fire Mortar by the rules but average availability which gives +10 rather than -10 for a total of 40
Just roll a test against that number and you get the weapon =3

Typically only once. But you can try to find some black market trader or try charm or commerce skill

Or, since that roll means this particular weapon is not available, try to get other anti-tank weapons =3
(Book does state you can annoy munitorum clerks with asking for too much stuff but something like 'this anti-tank wep?' 'no' 'that anti tank wep'... would probably be only a single visit where you ask until you hit gold?)

As I had argued with Ashora's sniper, I can't see why a Weapon Specialist would not be issued a grenade launcher as his specialist weapon.
I can see that they are not typically deployed with plasma weapons or thelike, but a grenade launcher is of a AVERAGE availability where a flamer (which is a RAW choice for Weapon Specialists) is SCARCE thus harder to get.

So I'll rule that (if you pick a weapon specialist) you can start with a launcher as specialist gear instead, just as I did with Ashora's Longlas.
Don't know which class you're looking at, maybe the specialist doesn't fit into your expectations? Here's the ruling anyway.

@Everyone else: Keep your next character ready (or create a new one if you want/don't have one) as we will switch focus for the next mission, whether you all die there or get your behinds recovered by the relief force. You can spend 1000 extra XP on that character. The character is no novice anymore and had some fighting as dirty as your current ones. Feel free to come up with a little battle report for them if you wish but don't over do it - there still very green behind the ears, but mixed with their first-blood now. They are all part of the spear tip of the great imperial push on Hive Spire.

I will hold a veto for anything to crazy (no fully psyker squad for example, they simply are to rare and dangerous to be used "en masse")

Its a shame OW doesnt have Wyrdvane Psykers since that would be a more...fair...way of doing psykers. Otherwise, I agree.

@Simmins: Nice, and that's right.

@Monia: Sure. But make sure to insert the mechanics into an alias in the end. Most of it can be copy&pasted from your previous one's after all. It's easier to take a look into that alias if I have to look something up quickly, than search/download that pdf of yours before doing so.

@Celephix: You probably want to do a Tech-Use test next to quick-power up the turret. Take a situational +10 on the test since the machine spirits are REALLY with you on this.

Are there any interesting options in the supplement books? I only have the core Only War book and wouldn't mind something different. Not up to be a psyker though!

What's everyone else rolling? Looking for inspiration here really.


The supplements really are for advanced characters only. Every 2.500xp there is a "milestone" where you can multiclass or take an advanced class with various flavour. But they did not introduce any really new base class in the supplements.
You can for example take up an operator to drive your transport and shoot stuff with it. Or a flamer weapon specialist to roast Orks alive? Try another heavy weapon guy/specialist with some cool weapon due to an awesome requisition roll? Maybe a plasma weapon user for example? Or mortar crew. A priest with flamer&chainsword?
Currently there are Commissar, Storm trooper, and an explosive expert/grenade launcher user of not-yet determined class.
