Zask moans gratefully as the healing words washes over him, still unable to move.

Ref Save: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19 Dodged. Not that it matters. Monks apparently do a lot of damage.

Zask wails on the slimy, rubbery hide of the foul creature. If it feels pain, it makes no show of it.

With a vile invocation, Vhaezil unleashes his infernal power. The bolt whizzes above Zask's head and slams into the abomination. The creature shudders at the impact for a moment before splitting apart like an overripe melon. Vile fluids gush forth, dousing Zask and roiling down the hallway in a flood of filth, Everyone make DC11 CON save be paralyzed and take an additional 1 pt of damage a round. Save again at the end of each or your turns. before subsiding.

The globes that had been suspended inside the creature's gelatinous bulk pop like delicate bubbles, releasing silvery tendrils that seep into the stone work. The main bulk of the monster subsides into the room it projected from, draining into a large pit in the floor. A faint tremor runs through the complex as the creature's song ends with its demise.

The room beyond the doorway features 30’ ceilings arching above a giant carved skeleton on the west wall covering an intricately carved waist high altar upon which rests two golden goblets, a large and an ornate book. There is a golden inscription in the tongue of the Duvan'Ku on the front of the altar.

An eerily warm ten-second wall of air heaves up from the exposed pit, followed by ten seconds of air being drawn back in like a vacuum, in an endless alteration.

Vhaezil or whomever is using the eyepiece from the library:
The inscription reads, "We hail the Nothing and offer this one unto it."

Dolgrin:
There is something out of place with the stonework to either side of the altar on the western wall.

Yea that damage was absurd, made me laugh when i saw the numbers. Paralyzed --- what removes the condition? Zask failed a save so is he just paralyzed for x turns or free with a save?

Zask finally manages to shake off the rigidity in his muscles. He moves into the room that the blob blocked and stands in front of the golden goblets.

"Fancy looking book here Vhaezil. Seems the very earth itself is breathing too. Dolgrin what do the dwarves know of it?

The monk will keep his hands off anything... for the time being...

His infernal gaze flicks toward Zask as he emphasises his final work, before flaring like a furnace as takes in the ornate book and its inscription;

"This complex. I never suspected it held so many treasures of knowledge... Touch nothing until I deem it safe to do otherwise."

Zasks eyes flit through frozen eyelids toward Vhaezil and lets out a weak moan.

That wont be an issue given Zasks current state :)

moving into the room he quickly notes the stonework isn't quite right surrounding the alter.

"At the delve near the sea we have holes such as these where the waves upon the sea causing this breathing type of occurance. Not sure here. We should check the walls"

Dolgrin will move to investigate the walls.

@Vhaezil: The book is titled The Million Violations. A quick look inside reveals that it is a detailed list of every crime committed by Duvan'Ku against man, beast and the gods. Reading the whole thing will date 1d4+1 weeks.

Finding a loose rock cleverly concealed behind the hip bone of the skeleton, Dolgrin activates the lever, releasing the doors that flank the alar.

"Zask, you ready for the next bit of scouting?"

"Always ready for a bit of foolishness Dolg. Someone should grab those golden goblets, unless their evils are better off left here."

Zask makes his way through the hidden passage. Searching for any valuables or further hidden things in the new room.

Investigation: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (5) - 1 = 4

If there is nothing new or no new passages Zask will head back out and head down the other unexplored hallway. Unless his comrades object.


The secret doors open onto a pair of parallel hallways. There is a connecting passtrough 5 feet in. The northern pathway extends 60 feet to the west before turning north out of view.

The southern pathway extends 60 feet to the west ending in a door and turning to the south out of view. About halfway along this path, there is southern alcove with another door set in it.

Hope that description makes sense.

Zask will head along the northern pathway, follow it to it's end then turn north. He will do his best to search for any pressure plates / trip wires along the way, poking with his quarterstaff as he moves along.

Just how big can this place be on the inside? Lichen muses. What possible original purpose was it build for way up here in the middle of no where.


After the passage turns to the north, it continues on for another 90 feet or so before opening up into another room. Set into the center of the floor is a larger circular opening that glows eerily. The wall on the far side of the pit has an inscription in the Duvan’Ku tongue.

Vhaezil or anyone who is using the magic eyepiece from the library.:

The inscription says: “I Will Drown In Black and Await The End of All Things”

Vhaezil follows the others, casts a wistful look toward the massive tome, that while full of macabre knowledge would likely not further their quest.

As they enter the pit room, the scribe's infernal gaze continues to glow balefully as he reads the translation of the Duvan'Ku words aloud in his soft, flat tone;

" - I Will Drown In Black and Await The End of All Things."

He mulls the words, allowing them to settle upon the group before offering his insight;

"What do I make of this indeed Master Quickhand... A threat? A promise? Instructions perhaps..."

Deep in thought, he fails to register Zask's intent until too late...


@Vhaezil: The book is big, but it can fit into a backpack with some encouragement.

When Vhaezil speaks the words written on the wall, the room resonates, as if it were a giant bell. The noise, while not deafening, is disorienting.

Zask wanders to the threshold of the pit staring down into it's depths.

"Whatever purpose this has... it's curiosity and location are oddly beautiful don't you think?"

Zask looks back at his friends, clearly engrossed in Vhaezhil's interest in the book. Muttering under his breath, but loud enough to hear.

"In the end it might not have been my own curiosity that was my downfall."

Knowing what is coming but unable to resist the temptation Zask steps over the threshold, plunging himself into the void.


Zask drops out of sight to drown in the black and await the end of all times.

Already talked to Zask's player about the situation and he is happy with how things played out. He will be rolling up another character for the campaign. While technically not dead, Zask is effectively beyond rescue for the party at the moment, but if the PCs are motivated at a later time, he may be recovered, or at least the minor artifact shield he just took with him.

Ahhh. Athletics - the forte of the infernal bookish smart-guy party leader types..

As he sees the priceless artefact disappear strapped to the back of the perplexed halfling, Vhaezil is uncharacteristically spurned into action;

"No! We cannot lose the bulwark!"

When Dolgrin fails to grab the plummeting monk, it falls to the scrivener who launches himself at the edge - grabbing the shield upon Zask's back with a steely grip reserved for his ink quill!

"I HAVE SAVED IT!"

As the rush of emptiness surrounds the Halfling the dread of what happened reveals itself to him. Moments before he can even begin to process whats to come he is wrenched backward by the surprising strength of the scribe. Once pulled back to safety he eyes Vhaezil with clarity,

"Thank you... I just couldn't resist the urge."

His eyes glaze over once again and Zask attempts to break free of the grip that Vhaezil has on the shield strapped to his back,

Perhaps the surge of adrenaline wearing off or a subconscious effort made against the will of the magic of this place has sapped him of his effort.

Zask continues to struggle to make it to the edge of the pit, to once again throw himself into the void.

I am pleased that Vhaezil was only interested in the shield :)

He says to Lichen in a glassy voice,

Zask kicks backward as Lichen tries to restrain him,

GMF:
Zask isnt trying to hurt them but still feels the compulsion strong enough to strike out. If the bonus needs to be added to the damage do so, but just trying to do a unarmed attack... minus the monkishness..

Zask continues to struggle to get to the pit and throw himself in,

Zask's kick misses the druid. Lichen steps between Zask and the abyss that is the monks goal. This path is denied you, at least until you sit and contemplate the choice. I will not stop you from taking your own life once I am convinced you do it of your free will. He shifts into a dire wolf, fully blocking the passage and bites at the monk but doing nonlethal damage if possible.

Bite: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 82d6 + 3 ⇒ (5, 5) + 3 = 13DC13 STR or knocked prone

Advantage from wolf.: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18

I believe in 5e when you drop an opponent you can choose if the last damage was lethal or not. Is that right?

Lichen in dire wolf form nods his shaggy head in agreement, grabs Zask by the armor at one shoulder and pulls him along, following the warlock.

Yeah you are right you can declare non lethal damage. I house rule at my games that a death save is made when you are knocked unconscious. So was just on auto pilot. I mean.. could a dire wolf knock someone unconscious anyway? heh.

Zask moans as he is dragged across the floor by the shaggy direwolf.

My daughter has a 120lb Shilow Shepard. That dog can knock you over just waling by you. I assure you it could head but someone unconscious without even meaning to. lol
