@Unruly: Interesting idea; I never considered the possibility of medieval gangsters in WotW, but it's a nice twist. You would be looking at a pretty long time of just establishing a decent power base with the party before you could set up a racket, though.

I'd like everyone who plans to play a divine character of a deity who isn't Asmodeus to just give me a quick rundown of how/why exactly they plan on playing nice with his servants. At one point you will be recruited in a group whose primary goal is the service of Asmodeus, and while I'm not going to exclude people based on that, I'm interested to see how they intend to reconcile that difference.

Also, current recruitment closing time will be based on how many people in the next 16 or so hours post saying they aren't finished yet. If someone dotted and made a general "I want to play X" post and hasn't followed it up for four days, I'm assuming unless they say otherwise that they dotted and then lost interest/found themselves too busy/etc. It happens, and it's cool. If you do not have at least a backstory submitted, please try and remedy that. If enough people could actually use the extra day, then recruitment closes Thursday. If I'm waiting on one or two people then sorry but I'll probably move on. Crunch is a much smaller issue; I don't select based on build, so all I need to go by is backstory. That's the important part.

Regardless, her powers coming from the infernal plane is what i had in mind.

Even the Cosa Nostra got their start as simple cattle and crop thieves. I'm fine with that.

Raymond isn't going to be a divine caster, but Mafiosi are typically Catholic in real life. I could see service to Asmodeus as similar to that. In fact, it would fit so much better with their style of doing things. Keep your word, uphold contracts, be loyal, but do everything you can to benefit yourself? Yea, I think that sort of philosophy pretty much epitomizes the stereotyped Mafia.

My background isn't done yet but should be done within 16 hours.

As for how I plan to play nice with Asmodeans: They suit Aelena's goals. She wants to get rid of the Mitra worshipping House Darius and so do the Asmodeans. In addition, she likes the trickery Asmodeans tend to employ and also like their general predictability (as long as you always assume they have a trick up their sleeves). That and Aelena can get along with anyone as long as it furthers her goals.

As a Whore Queen Ardad Lili may stand outside the standard hierarchy of Hell but she still is very much a creature of Hell. She is one of the angels that fell together with Asmodeus, following him, and as such is pretty loyal to him (as much as any devil is truly loyal).

Delayla on her part seeks revenge against the Mitran church, as do the minions of Asmodeus. Being shunned for her powers she'd appreciate any1 who can value them instead.

Now oracles aren't tied to a deity as you asked, but they would eventually come to discover where their powers come from. At least i can imagine some do.

I have all the ideas in my head, just trying to figure out how to accomplish what I want. I should have the backstory done by the end of the day. If I do not have it in by tomorrow morning, just drop me from the consideration.

Looking forward to selection. I'll probably lurk around even if I'm not selected.

Ok, so I got around to fixing things up for this campaign. Really wasn't a lot of work, but I wanted to make sure I got the numbers right.

Here's Molasbar for markofbane. His background is included in the profile. I just need to finish spell selection for him to be complete.

I too wasn't thinking about becoming a lich. In case his own centuries of lifespan wouldn't be enough, Molasbar would inevitably discover the secrets to immortality, taking that discovery at 20th level so his reign of terror could be eternal.

Weird. I posted this last night, but it isn't showing up in the thread for me.

Lantern Lodge

Had to finish up some last minute changes to taxes last night, so I was busy all night. I'll have my character finished up and posted when I get home this afternoon.

So, I'm not playing a divine caster, but seeing as Cynthia's deity is an important part of her character, I suppose I have to clarify things.

Lamashtu's goal is also that of tearing off all of the "fake goodness" and show people how the world is: a terrible fight where only the stronger, more cunning or lucky wins. This could be somewhat conciled with Asmodeus, like a PF version of Social Darwinism.

Cynthia's second goal is that of finding more followers for Lamashtu: maybe uniting all of the monstrous tribes around Talingarde. Maybe I could strike an aggreement between Lamashtan and Asmodians, later on? They take political control of the city, me and the tribes get some territories around the city and serve as Talingarde's army?

You do realize that while devils have a strong dislike for angels and other "good" folk, it is more of an ongoing family dispute, after all, Asmodeus is a fallen anger. On the other hand, devils hate demons and their pure chaotic and destructive natures and will do all in their power to destroy any demon on sight, and that Lamashtu was once a demon lord?

Shh! Don't tell her that until after we've used her for our own purposes!

Well, she's a Neutral Evil worshipper of Lamashtu, there may be hope yet.

As long as they're for the time being working on common ground, I think we can consider the mission more important than the Blood War.

Edit: Also, since I haven't said this yet, we're not going to be measuring XP numerically; you'll level up when you're supposed to, plot-wise. Any time the book says "If they do X give them more XP for good roleplaying" or something I will just make sure to throw a little more extra onto the next bit of treasure you guys come across/loot for completing it.

I very well know the mutual hate between demons and devils, yes.
Tough, I want to try to find a common ground where voth sides could benefit. Obviously, both will think they are the ones that uses the other. We'll see about that :)
On Cynthia's personal side(s), one personality would never betray someone he started to aknowledge as 'family' or 'pack', while the other only cares for the spread of Lamashtu's cult, wichever the means.

EDIT: I also think that the Blood War is not a part of Pathfinder lore, if I'm not mistaken...

Dark Archive

Selina cares little for religion, she'll pay lip service to any god who aids her acquisition of wealth and power.
She also has a fondness for snakes.

It's not, but it's a handy way to refer to Demons and Devils hating each other that much.

Selina, Aelena, and myself... quite a bit of snake affinity in here.

I should roleplay as the descendant of a were-mongoose just to mess with you. :P

I actually ended up having less time than I thought so here's Aelena's background in short

Background:

- The women on Aelana's mother's side have been followers of Ardad Lili for many generations, predating the rise of Mitra.
- Aelena's mother had an arranged marriage with her father, an heir from a wealthy farmer, minor lord and follower of both Mitra and House Darius.
- Her husband, Aelena's father, was a weak willed, gentle and loving man and one of two men Aelena truly loved. He was physically abused by his father, who was a stern Mitran and a violent man. The abuse extended to Aelena's mother after the marriage.
- The first born was a son and was taken by grand father to raise as what he called a true man.
- Aelena was half of twins, the other half being her brother Leandric. He's the only other man she loves.
- They had one more child, a girl.

- As her eldest brother gets older he takes after grandfather and becomes a nasty man and devout Mitran.
- Eldest son abused his father who he deems a weakling, just like his grandfather does.
- Father interferes when the eldest son wants to beat his youngest sister for some perceived slight. Son is angered that his weakling father dares act against him and beats him to death in a fit of rage. Grandfather arranges the thing to disappear.
- Remainder of Aelena's family tries to run but they are retrieved by people loyal to her grandfather.
- Aelena's twin brother is sent to a military academy while she is sent away to marry a much older man. Mother and baby sister stay behind.

- Aelena moves to Talingarde's capitol, where she comes in touch with women who are equally dissatisfied with their situation. They start to come together to talk but as they mostly talk about their frustration Aelena slowly introduces them to Ardad Lili and they turn into a small cult.
- On the night before her wedding Aelena organises a gathering where she ritually sacrifices her husband to summon a servant of Ardad Lili.
- The ritual is interrupted by Sir Balin of Karfeld. A female servant had talked and ratted them out.
- Most other women were sent home as their families were too influential and it was made to look like they didn't quite understand what was going on, as if Aelena tricked them all.
- Aelena was arrested and set to be made an example off and as such was sent to Branderscar before she'd be burned at the stake.

@Molasbar: I didn't notice your post last night either, but now it's there for me, so don't worry. Even if you aren't in the roll call, I have seen your post.

I've made some preliminary judgements I won't be sharing, but I'll leave a few more hours for people to get their stuff in before I close recruitment. Good luck.

Thanks for confirming that for me. :)

A full Divine and a full Arcane caster is good for any party. A full divine caster means you have someone who can cast the spells to get rid of those crippling conditions as well as lower the amount of healing items you need to stock up on. A full arcane caster provides the versatility control the battlefield. Still an Inquisitor is still good as they can be secondary tier healers and jack of all trades.

That's fine if you're running an all-hard-roles party, but you can also get good balance with divine-ish, arcane-ish, and martial-ish classes, such as the inquisitor and magus. In addition, the bard and witch make for good pseudo-divine arcane casters, with both having some heal magic access.

I've decided to pull out. The rest of you are super good together and I don't want to be a drag on the group. Plus, I'm going to be running a homebrew campaign soon and I'm in two other campaigns. See you in other times, I guess!

Sucks to hear, Zach, but good luck.

I don't like parties of all hard roles, partly due to my rampant Bard fanboyism. Unless it's a group of four where that's all sorely needed, I like the idea of some flexibility in things. A group of six means some give, and if nothing else allows for four full roles and two mixed ones. In my mind a balanced party of that size is one that has a mix of both sorts. That way there might be a dedicated healer in the Cleric, but you'll have an Inquisitor or Bard with CLW on their list for when the Cleric's down or out of spells.

Ok, finally finished the background and got my character modified.

May I present:

Morossa

Dirty Trick specializing monk/fighter and intending on taking Shadowdancer. Also planning on taking the Path of the Vampire. Probably qualifies as melee, but more of a support fighter/flanker with lots of class skills.

Good luck with the reviewing. I will look Morossa over in the morning, it is a bit late here and I need to get some sleep. Background is first draft as I have not had the chance to go back over it, so hopefully there are not too many typos and mistakes.

Okay wow f&~* it, lot of words, too tired to tackle that. I'm going to sleep and I'll make final selections tomorrow as originally planned.

I'm on vacation this week, and didn't see this thread until today.

I'm hoping you might consider my character from another WotW PbP that folded before we broke out of prison.

I'll need to drop the equipment I added during the breakout attempt.

Thanks for considering!

Morossa

The beaten and bloodied woman looks out through the cracks in her mobile prison.
I can smell the salt and hear the waves. Waves are good. They cover the noise of throats being slit. The sound of necks snapping and calls for help.

She then feels the road smooth and hears voices as the wagon goes from the rough dirt road to the cobbled road leading to the prison.
Just play it simple. They will make a mistake. These are prison guards, the ones who were not good enough for the army. They are lazy and bound to leave an opening. The only reason nobody has yet escaped, is none were brave enough to try, and more importantly patient enough to wait for the guards to get lax. Well, that will all change. And if it does not, well, the look on my father's wife's face as she was told of her prize daughter's death is worth whatever happens to me.

At this though the woman begins to laugh and cackle inanely, which elicits a smash on the side of the prison box. When Morossa does not stop, the wagon stops briefly and the lid of the cage is opened. All Morossa sees is a fist coming toward her and then all begins to fade to blackness once more as she hears: The Sergeant is not going to be happy if . . .

Alright, so after a while of trying to match everything up and come up with a cohesive party at the end of it, I settled on the following group:

Lily Steelsong, Human Antipaladin of Asmodeus
Morossa, Human Clusterf~+~
Zinbah Boreol, Human Wizard
Megirege Ahiorebi, Human Cleric of Asmodeus (Hidden Priest, Separatist)
Amanda Malburne, Human Inquisitor (Infiltrator) of Asmodeus
Raymond K. Hessel, Ifrit Summoner (Master Summoner)

All six of you, please check in to the discussion thread.

It wasn't easy to do, and thanks to everyone for sticking around and applying. Good luck with your future game applying.

Gratz to all who were accepted. You guys are in for a treat; Spooky is a great DM.

Ssssssssso long! Enjoy!

Congrats to everyone who made it!

Have fun in erasing all the goodness of the world :3

Congrats.
