Only one lady in white comes to mind, and she's currently working in the lab. But to the best of your knowledge, Cala can not be connected in any way with an orange blob with black stripes and a white dot.

Anyone else hazard a guess?

Well it isn't me! Maybe Elise, who also wore white? I'm guessing these crude paintings have been with the Lizardmen tribe awhile though, so that's probably not it. Hmmm, well the orange blob with black stripes... that's probably our dire tiger friend, so my other thought is that the woman in white is some sort of companion to old one eye, or maybe One-eye is a demented human Druid, and the woman is her human form like Talon had suggested earlier?

Back at the Horn...

Perplexed by the lack of reports coming in from either Heitr or Venorik Rah operatives, Caladwhen gets up from her antechamber desk and heads towards the third level balcony, but not before casting invisibility over herself to prevent her being seen.

Gazing out over the Caer Byr, the calculating mind of Caladwhen tallies the possibilities in her head. Perhaps they've been discovered, but both organizations at the same time? Somebody would have made it out to report one would imagine. Locking her gaze on the jungle below, Caladwhen scowls, still lost in thought Something out there might be intercepting them; maybe another group of interlopers, or "local heroes" perhaps? Maybe it's One-Eye hunting? Or perhaps even something more primal in the woods we haven't rooted out yet?

Turning on her heel, Caladwhen re-enters the horn and appears visible again when safely out of view from the outside. Impatiently, Caladwhen calls out "T'larryo! Summon Gabriel and Nariel to my antechamber, we have a problem."

IB - I'd like to eventually send out a search party, see if there aren't any dangers lurking about the Horn that are killing our operatives right under our nose, but not randomly... first I'll send out some flaming Skeletons at night along the routes the operatives typically enter, and watch from up high in the Horn... if the fire of the flaming skeletons gets snuffed out in a certain area, we'll take a closer more guarded look at that area in morning.

F Banshee Banshee/and then some

A whispering voice, sweet as honey, dripping with sarcasm, asks Caladwhen:
"Trouble, honey?"

It never rains, but it pours...

Cala, honestly those fiery skeletons are a great idea. They stand out in the night for easy monitoring, and no forest create goes near fire voluntarily. If one is eliminated, you can find out while enjoying the view! Now let's see how they fare:

As dawn approaches, so do your fiery skeletons.

Following your instructions to the letter, they have covered the path to Farholde, and back, without getting attacked.

knowledge(nature) DC25:
Not everything eats undead. Or fire. Let alone fiery undead.
For all you know, one of them may have walked right by whatever is causing the trouble without geting attacked.

Gabriel and his elite squad take pride in their work for you. He reports to you expecting to be reprimanded, because they have seen no suspicious behavior in the night.

The elder lizard visibly relaxes.

"good!"
He orders his kin to bring out some food. Slowly, the lizardfolk return about their normal business.

"At dawn, we show you where She was."

Most of the meal turns out to be fruit and fish, but all of it is bitter and, frankly, disgusting.

--- fast forward to the next morning ---

Two of the bravest warriors stand ready outside your huts. They point at more of the disgusting fruit and nervously, impatiently, hobble nearby until you indicate you are ready to go.

They take you along a path, into the jungle; clearly you're heading in the direction you were already planning to go. However, the lizards of the Hazorzaht lead you along a hidden(*) undergrowth highway, which is a far quicker route than your original plan.

(*)well, hidden until Grubmlejack comes through, that is. where a path once lied, now is a full-blown road XD

I see :)

Cole chokes down the food, thinking more to himself the need to invest in learning how to hunt and track things.

This way is letting us move much faster. Perhaps it was fortunate we came upon this tribe.

Just past noon, you arrive near a lake. Talon and Cale look at eachother and nod silently - yup, this is where we were a few days ago; and there is the lair of the dire tiger.

The lizardmen who led you here stop suddenly, and speak, hesitantly:

draconic:
"You seek White Owl. Please, we need Wise White Owl help, too?"

They point towards the tiger's den.
draconic:
"We bring you to her. Theere - White Owl lives. "
As politely as they can, they ask you not to keep this white owl to yourselves.

well, here you are; back at the tiger's den. There's no trace of the animal. The lizardmen were clever enough to approach against the wind - meaning the wind is blowing in your face, so the Tiger can't smell you from its lair. How do you proceed?

Talon casts shield on himself, stepping forward but waiting to see if Sindran has any ideas.

Soon enough, you see One-Eye dragging some sort of fox-tailed deer. He disappears out of sight for a second, and you hear the *thump* of a dead animal dropping on rocks.
One-Eye then comes back out, retracing his steps until the edge of the forest.

Then, he turns around to face his den, and starts to push sand over the trail of blood, slowly working his way back to his cave.

"We'll see," Sindran says to Cole noncommittally. "For now, stay beside me and do nothing. Grumblejack will do the same. Talon, be prepared to block off any escape routes should he flee."

We must always endeavor to find uses for LOLcats. Cole, you're listening to a cat and Sindran meow at each other.

Sindran remains in the same position, not holding eye contact for long to show they didn't come to fight. He gauges One-Eye's response and finds him caught off-balance.

He waits a few moments, letting the cat tense in the wait, considering his words and muses on using one of the lizards as an offering if they continue to get on Grumblejack's bad side. Reasonable doubt.

Finally, he speaks.

Kittyspeak:

Sindran's words catch the big cat somewhat off-guard. It visibly relaxes, and sits down. It's still very ready to move, but no longer threatening.

kitty:
"Green things loud. Green things rude. Green things stupid. They were yours? I did not think anyone would miss them. You are a good keeper."
keeper, as in person-who-deals-with-needs; cats have words for 'owner' that don't really translate well.
"What do you use the green things for?"

The dire tiger curls its tail.

Caladwhen:

A Bane-Wog tribesmen named Juko Five-Smiles has mastered enough of the Common tongue to approach you.
Juko says that the hunting has been bad and the tribe has suffered much with all the monsters and raids. He conveys the tribe's need for food and better weaponry. The Goblin delivers a 3500 gp shopping list to you (3000 gp covers 10 masterwork spears and the rest is for food).

Listening to Gabriel’s report somewhat passively, Caladwhen sighs as she leans back in her chair. "This is fruitless; if something is out there, it certainly has been selective about choosing targets." Stepping out onto the balcony, Caladwhen surveys the surrounding area and shakes her head, it could be anywhere between here and Farholde.

Suddenly, her solitude on the balcony is disturbed by the appearance of the goblin Juko. Listening to his grievance, Caladwhen scowls with an air of disgust and annoyance. Glancing over at Gabriel, snaps her finger at her loyal servant and points towards the goblin

Elven:
"Toss this meddlesome creature out, Sindran can deal with him when he gets back."

Stepping aside as Gabriel prepares to hurl the creature out of her antechamber, Caladwhen suddenly appears to second guess herself and places a hand on Gabriel’s shoulder

Elven:
"Wait, I have an idea. Set him down in that chair... and pour him a drink."

Sitting down, Caladwhen changes her demeanor instantly as she waits for Gabriel to set Juko up with a drink. After a moment, she smiles at the goblin and addresses him perfectly in his native tongue

Goblinoid:
"Juko is it? Relax and have a drink with me. Listen, I know you would preferred to have spoken with Sindran, but you were right to come to me; believe me when I say I have your tribes best interest at heart."

Looking over at Nariel with a nod, Caladwhen continues to speak in her currently pleasant demeanor in the common tongue "Nariel, be a dear and collect some for Juko." After her cohort presents the money, Caladwhen smiles lightly

Goblinoid:
"Juko, gather a small group of your comrades and take this coin to Farholde and procure all the weapons and food you can. Use the road to Farholde that my operatives employ, it will be the fastest method of travel. When you reach the outskirts of Farholde, my operatives will meet you and make the purchases for you in town so as not to raise the alarm of the townsfolk. Now, I can only offer you 1,500 gold at this time, but with my connections in town, that should be enough to get at least some of what you need."

Yeah, so basically Caladwhen sees an opportunity to kill two birds with one stone, appease the goblins while using them as live guinea pigs to see if something is out there. T’larryo will follow, and see if the goblin troupe gets attacked and where. If the goblins make it, then we’re only out 1,500g and we’ve appeased them at least somewhat.

Sindran's last question stirs the big cat into action.

meow:
"White Owl. I mourn her every day. Come."
He suddenly looks very, very sad.

One-eye slowly stands up and walks towards its cavern. When it reaches the entrance, it patiently looks back to where Sindran is standing.

Juko's eyes nearly pop when he sees the money. The resulting grin is threatening to take the top of his head off!

Caladwhen:

Not an hour later, Gabriel relays a report he received from the goblin sentries who are too scared to report themselves:
Juko and his mate have left the caves. Juko was carrying a bag and shouted something like 'so long, Lame-Wog suckers! Masters make me rich!'
Giggling madly, they ran off into the jungle, in the direction of Farholde.

That is just such a cool idea, Sindran!

On the banks of the Lake of Skye, One-Eye has cleared out a den. The lair is a shallow cave right in the side of another spire of stone not dissimilar to the one that the Horn was created from. The tiger keeps the entrance to the den free of bones and dead things so that its lair is not easy to smell from a distance.

The inside of the den is littered with bones, fresh kills. Amongst the bones are animal remains of every sort, at least three dead Goblins, and a half dozen skeletons of other sentients including humans, elves and dwarves. Against the northern wall of the den, a jumbled pile of relatively ungnawed skulls. This pile looks carefully placed, and there are only humanoid skulls in this pile; these are One-Eye’s trophies. On a ledge in the back of the den, a surprisingly crude piles of fur, pine branches and grass are spread about. It is almost as if the tiger has made a comfy bed for itself!

The tiger leads you on, towards a mysterious luminescence that reveals a roomy cave down a small corridor. Old One-Eye nods for you to follow.
The cave turns out to be a large hall where several areas have been marked with branches to form crude chambers. Fresh air and light come in through a few holes in the domed ceiling. A surprising mass of plant life and flowers decorate the walls, while hundreds of insects and even a few little birds dance around create the picture of a beautiful indoor ecosystem.

The only dissonance to this pretty picture, is the smell emanating from the corner, where a cloud of fat flies writhe about over a humanoid shape, wearing shreds of a white dress.

One Eye runs at the cloud of flies, snapping at them as they try to flee. He sits down and gently nudges the obviously dead elf with the tip of his nose.

He releases a growl, which sounds eerily like "...White Owl."

Male Strix Magus (Bladebound) 9

Talon can't help but be impressed at the collection. Competent, strong, intelligent. No wonder he managed to take down that fool human so easily. He looks a the animal with a new found respect.

As the walks into the back area and sees the elf corpse he even feels a hint of sympathy. A druid's dead companion. He tries to see how long the elf has been dead without being disrespectful.

Cala, your strike team shows initiative once more.

That evening, Gabriel comes back in a foul mood. He is carrying the exact same bag you gave to Juko; it yet jingles with coin.

As he puts the bag on your desk with more force than you expect of him, he bursts out.
"Juko is gone!"

Not much is left of his normally solid attitude and calm behaviour. You can clearly read in his eyes that he is on the edge of ...something.

"And SO is Delana!1!"

Obviously, a Hangman Tree did this.

It took all of their combined strength, but she was dead by the time they managed to pull her free.
