It occurs to me that none of us have any social skills.
I was going to grab them but I figured it wouldn't be appropriate for the bear to be the party's face.
Kyriel of the Whitecaps |
How silly of the Whitecaps to send an envoy without any skill at Diplomacy. Whoops.
For what it's worth, I wouldn't mind having a bear or a drunk be the face of the party. Both are equally entertaining to me...
Kyriel of the Whitecaps |
Heh, yeah. And Kyriel might have shown a little more restraint if the dude hadn't been so obviously guilty, evil, and in the middle of executing a big old fashioned murder plan. Still, he knows enough not to undermine efforts unless things get really unpalatable.
GM Snowe |
Unfortunately, my grandmother passed away today. I'll be out of state in New York until Sunday, April 3rd. No need for condolences, she was almost 90 and lived a great and full life. For those who pray, please do so for my mother. I will still continue to make posts, but they won't be as frequent.
On a lighter note, Happy Easter, I hope you all enjoy the holiday weekend.
Kyriel of the Whitecaps |
Glad to hear you're handling it well, hope the rest of your family is too. I hope you enjoy your time in real New York as much as you can, given the circumstances.
Bonus Recommendation: Check out Wolf Hollow Brewery on 5. It's relatively new-ish, and a cool place to relax and decompress on the weekend. Nice big round tables and they encourage board games etc. Beer's really good if that's your thing, and they do BBQ too.
source: I live pretty close to Amsterdam
Kyriel of the Whitecaps |
It's pretty much exactly halfway between Schenectady and Amsterdam. Definitely a bright spot. Though Schenectady is doing AMAZING (downtown especially), particularly if you haven't been up here in a while. The last decade or so it's improved about a hundredfold.
Cal Concord |
Ah! Wonderful! Our party of not-paladins can descend into the secret passage to casually terrify the rest of this conspiracy with the fact that we are willing to lower ourselves to unconscionable tactics like threats and lying.
I'm tempted to pop over to the paladin game and see how they handled the uncooperative prisoner.
Cal Concord |
Going to pester with questions here for the sake of speed and cleanliness.
Would I be able to meaningfully damage the bridge with fire?
Are the various watch posts still relatively intact?
GM Raine |
There's no way to meaningfully damage this bridge that would delay them anymore than an hour, since the iron framework goes on both the sides and underneath the drawbridge.
Karl has done what could be.
As for the watch posts, nothing is very intact at all. For the most part, there is only one tower and one gatehouse in Balentyne. In the, there was a room with arrow slits and tons of arrows, but they were all burnt down. In the gatehouse, the arrow stores were burnt down, the scalding sand was dumped out.
Anyone with knowledge engineering could tell you that this place is pretty indefensible now. The intruders did a smash up job of sabotaging it.
GM Raine |
There will be some time to do that over the next few days, so feel free to preemptively do it now for Kyriel.
This is going to be a pretty long list. I'm sure you won't be taking all of these items. I'm going to continue with the gameplay thread while we discuss here who takes what items and how you want to manage your party inventory.
I am not overly concerned with coin weight unless we're talking something like 30,000 copper.

We're finally coming into magic items. I'm going to make a slight change to the existing magic weapon and armor rules with ABP.
The rules as is allow you to create a magic weapon at a discount, because the bonus of the item comes from your ABP bonus.
Example.
Flaming is a +1 special ability.
If your total ABP for a weapon is +2 Enhancement, then when using a flaming greatsword, it would be considered a +1 Flaming Greatsword.
New Rule: When attuning to a weapon with a special ability, you may choose not to attune the special ability. So for the above example, you could use it as a +1 Flaming Greatsword or a +2 Greatsword.
GM Raine |

Kyriel of the Whitecaps |
@Sundakan - I highly doubt it. Kyriel specifically needs a free hand for rapier things, bears + shields = ????, and I'd expect Cal would rather keep his hands on Mathilda. You might as well take the Champion Fullplate too, I think. With Attunement and GM's new rule for ABP, you can ditch the 'Champion' ability and call it +2 Full Plate (if I'm interpreting that correctly).
I'll snatch up the spellbooks and the Dispel scroll, unless someone else needs them, and enough gold to pay to copy spells into my own book. I'd take a bow if they're not wanted, but the strength rating is too high for me to use now, so I'm not super attached.
Probably a good thing to give everyone 2 or 3 of the CLW potions, and a front-liner the CMW.
Nukilik |
I think the shield's all yours.
Nukilik doesn't necessarily need the potions but he'd be happy to lug them around if it's a carrying capacity problem for someone.
Cal Concord |
Yeah, I'm sticking to Mathilda and actually ditched my armor this level as my monk AC is better at this point. Between Mathilda and the Masterwork gastraphetes strapped to Hester, I've got all my weapon concerns covered for the immediate future.
The Cracked Dusty Rose Prism Ioun Stone would be a nice toy for Kyriel or I since we are a pair of initiative monkeys.

Just so you know, GM Snowe, your game actually inspired me to run my own alternate Way of the Wicked Game, although of a different premise. This is an alternate history where the Barcans won the Civil War and turned Talonguard into an Asmodian ruled nation. The survivors of the Darcans instead fled north and received aid from the Elves and Dwarves of the north. Adrastus Thorn has more recently taken the rulership of the Asmodian Church and is having slave labour build large infernal pillars in different places across Talongarde. Thus the Darcans warned by portents from Mitra decided now is the time to retake Talongarde from the Barcans before the plans of Adrastus Thorn come to fruition. The PC's on the other hand are characters who are in Branderscar Prison, for committing crimes against the Barcan regime but are currently trying to escape and play their part in the events to come to liberate the land from the Asmodians and free the land from evil. Of course I call the game "Way of the Righteous".

@Darkfire: Awesome! Do you run it here? I'd love a link to look over it. Always wondered how people like Baron Vandermir would have gotten along had house Barca won that battle.
@Party: Things get more sandboxy here, guys. I've given you several plot hooks your group can look into. Most of it's been subtle clues, and if you all are feeling lost and want some direction, don't hesitate to let me know here.
