Tolus glances around for any easily searchable foodstuffs before heading out the door.

Once outside he outlines the plan he has. He suggests finding a secluded part of the garden and planting the window low on the wall, hopefully causing a flood of sea water to inundate the compound. Then, while the guards suddenly have more important things on their minds than a few escapees, they will all make a swim for it.

Anyone have any better ideas?

"Works for me sweetie." Lusk happily quips with a crooked grin on his face.


You exit the unblocked door and find yourself in a garden at the southeast corner of the grounds. Sixty foot tall battlements interspersed with guards towers ring the compound. From the smell, one of the southern towers is a privy. You can also hear the sounds of two patrolling guards around the corner of your building. They don't appear to have heard any of the escaping prisoner ruckus yet. No map at the moment. Lots of options right now. If you're sticking with the Window Floodgate plan, let me know where you're planting it

Knowledge(nature) or Survival DC 15:
You notice a shrub separated from the rest of the garden plants. It appears to be belladonna/nightshade. If you're careful, you can harvest up to 3 doses of this poison. (If you're unfamiliar with it, belladonna deals STR damage and is worth 100gp per dose)

He moved towards the corner of the building crouching low and removing the second dagger. Hopefully the others would find a spot on that wall to make a window, but in case they decided to dally well...Perhaps he could end them quickly with surprise.

Tolus heads into the tower (if it's unlocked) and checks to see if he can access the outer wall from here and where the stairs leading up are.


The smelly privy is, in fact, unlocked and currently unoccupied. With a little work, the squatting platform could be removed - allowing you to drop into the ocean below. Unfortunately, that would be an approximately 40ft drop, and you can see rocks below the surface of the water. The tower also has a staircase leading to the battlements and (thankfully unoccupied) guard towers. From your elevated position, you can see that a drop from this height would be almost certainly suicidal (the towers battlements are 40ft tall, and the towers add 20ft to that height. Then there's the water and rocks). However, the battlements provide easy access to the gatehouse (north of your position) and the keep (southwest of your position).

Tolus ties the rope to a sturdy support and tosses it down the hole.
There. I have given it some thought, and swimming against the tide wasn't my best idea. This will throw them off the trail when they find it and hopefully send a good portion of the guards out the front door looking for us. Now, we need another way out of here and, more immidiately, someplace better to hide. Perhaps we should go back and see if the ogre is dead.
Whatever we decide, it has to be done now. We have been lucky so far. We would be wise not to press it.

Tolus nods and makes his way quickly back indoors.


You sneak back inside the kitchen, unblock the other door, and carefully go searching for Grumblejack. In the main hallway, you find him lying on the ground covered with wounds. Three dead guards are there, and you see two more bandaging wounds. Watch Sergeant Tomas Blackerly (the man who branded you and threw you in your cell) is with them but seems uninjured.

Heal DC 10:
Grumblejack is badly hurt, but you can see his chest faintly rising and falling as he breathes shallowly. He doesn't appear to be conscious.

Ekkehardt detects no auras in the area. There's clearly no Good Outsiders or Mitran Clerics in the vicinity. Standard Action detect good functions like the spell, so 3rds to pinpoint stuff. Of course, there's still the 5HD threshold. Move Action detect good gives you everything about a single individual in 1rd (just in case that's what you were wanting to do instead).

With a malicious grin Lusk will charge the sergeant (or the next nearest guard if the daggers bring him down).

The ogre eyes Tolus suspiciously - then beams a gigantic toothy smile. "You right! Grumblejack owe you his friendship! Hah! Maybe someday Grumblejack save you right back!" He laughs uproariously at the idea. "What you need Grumblejack to do?"

Just a reminder that he only has 2HP right now, so he won't last long as a sacrificial lamb again. :-)
