Male Half-Elf Rogue (Charlatan) 5

Sholano barely restrains the urge to retort something sarcastic at Shendalyn about that last remark, but he manages and smoothly continues on, nodding. He considers for a moment, then edges back a step and responds, "Pink ones help Hears-the Father, do good service. Then help pink ones through Horn, yes?"

Minor Crab-beast

The big one scowls "Slays-Nine-Men is chief... talk me not him"

The smaller one nods sagely through his afflicted mind "Yes yes pink ones... Slays-Nine-Men chief... Hears-the-Father his second..." giving an exaggerated wink.

Male Gaav (52/52 hitpoints) Inquisitor

Mi'Dre simply sighs as they continue to entertain the foolishness of the frog-people. Much simpler to kill the leader and take his place. He could hardly be much challenge after Jurak.

Male Half-Elf Rogue (Charlatan) 5

Sholano gives Slay-Nine-Men a little bow, using the movement as an excuse to take another step back away from the chieftain, casually reaching back for his pack as he does so. "Of course, mighty chief. Me show you special shiny, gift for great chieftain from our lord. Same gift we bring for everyone who stands in our way."

Emphasizing the last few words for the rest of the group's benefit, Sholano withdraws a small bag from his pack and holds it out to the chief, waiting calmly for the frogman to take a step forward and claim it.

Come and get it, you simpleton.

"Uh huh" Gurthock says flatly. "Mammon's testicles I think 'is bloody arm just flew off!"

"That would be Mi'Dre I think. Little devil tries to make up for the other hundreds of brothers that would be ripping apart their victim. Good effort on his part. Jethryk's charge is brutal and murderous, his sword cutting an arc through the air and being rewarded by the spray of blood in the air. The boggard croaks with shock and pain mixed together and recoils. The charge of his companion and the rapidly recovering wits of the boggard are just enough to foul the aim of Sholano and the tanglefoot bag is ineffectual.

Mi'Dre's charge draws blood, but the assault of the others including Shendalyn's summoned companions is ill-coordinated and ill-aimed - opening no new wounds.

Slays-Nine-Men snaps his head up and hisses with burgeoning rage before croaking loudly. The greatsword upon his back is brought from scabbard with an oily hiss before cutting an arc of it's own...

I'm fairly certain there's a space somewhere in there for Sholano to get a flank in - if I'm wrong, then amend this to drawing and firing a shortbow.

Minor Crab-beast

Mi'Dre - your crit didn't even come close to laying him out.
Jethryk - recheck your math on the haste strike, you don't get the benefit of Furious Focus there.

Surprised at the boggard both resisting the sucker punch, as well as being able to lash out effectively in return - the villains of the piece redouble their efforts to quickly bring Slays-Nine-Men to the mud.

He bears the strikes of the devilish and mortal with aplomb before the twin scything blows of Jethryk are too much for even him to bear. Coughing blood the boggard lurches to one side before trying and failing to return fire. He falls with an unceremonious thump...

Hears-The-Father is not displeased, though the other boggard is shocked at the ferocity of the inflicted death. The shaman gestures "Pink ones come with Father's strength... will make Bane-Wogs strong..." looking with tilted head and expression towards you.

"Hey! I was gunna eat that." Mi'Dre says indignantly as Shendalyn stabs into Slays-nine-men's chest. He glowers at the man for a few moments--he hadn't intended to when he started, but the boggard had acquitted himself well, he'd earned it!--before looking back to the shaman. "Yes. Long live the new Chiefs of the Bane-Wogs!"

He looks back at the chest wound spurting the frog's last and sighs, heading over towards the shaman. "Let's see em then, the Bane-wogs..."

Albina unless I'm mistaken you can choose to give fast healing 1.5 for 1 minute or fast healing 1 for two minutes every time you use it, so out of combat the latter will result in more hit points. Or am I mistaken VoV?

With a wholly unnecessary flourish, Sholano whips his rapier to one side, flinging most of Slays-Nine-Men's blood from the glittering weapon. He checks to make sure someone with magical talent is pulling anything useful from the chief's corpse, and then, pulling a small cloth from his sleeve, he wipes down the blade, eying Hears-the-Father. "Yes. Hears-the-Father makes wise choice to help pink ones, bane-wogs will be stronger for this. Now."

Dexterously sheathing his blade once more, he smiles a predator's smile at the shaman. "Take us where we want to go."

The wizard lurks as Albina's magicks discern anything worth recovering from the brute, ready to cast an identification incantation should it be required.

Minor Crab-beast

The dead boggard bears no magic upon his form, his only possessions the armor on his back and fine greatsword lying beside him.

Emboldened by the pink ones affirmation, Hears-the-Father grunts at the other boggard - who turns and bounds into the caverns behind him. After he goes the shamanistic boggard slinks closer "Tribe will come... listen to those who come with Father's blessing... Restore the Horn, yes? Plan of the pink ones, yes?"

"The sword seems of fine enough quality, but nothing shines with special interest..." Albina says, turning back to the boggard shaman.

Male Half-Elf Rogue (Charlatan) 5

Sholano nods to Albina, inspecting the sword himself as he contemplates how to answer Hears-the-Father's question.

Not bad, not bad at all...matter at hand, Gale, matter at hand.

"We shall be restoring many things to their former glory, not only the Horn," he says grandiosely, dropping the boggard's speech patterns. "But to do that, we will need to delve deep within. If your tribe proves to be a help, they may share in the rewards we reap."

Hah. Not likely, but I suppose they might.

Minor Crab-beast

The shaman's eyes roll as though he has a slight fit before he speaks "Raise horn, Bane-wog help... but horn raised... Bane-wog's home. Pink ones go when work done, leave home to Bane-wogs... yes?"

Male Half-Elf Rogue (Charlatan) 5

Sholano nods with a gracious air, the benevolent lord granting his subject a boon. "Most certainly, your home would be yours to claim." For a while, at least...

His voice turns stern for a moment, imperious and commanding. "But betray us before our work is done and we are on our way, and you will wish you had fallen with Slays-Nine-Men."

A bit over the top, perhaps, but then, I don't think subtle is this fellow's strong point.

Cruxcarr eyes the parley with a rictus saccharine smile, his full tongue playing across thin lips;

Mmmmm. Beautiful destruction indeed. Would seem my exquisite Blackhearts are certainly bolstered by the newcomers to the ranks... Master Sholano possesses a honey tongue to match his... lustrous complexion, whilst Master Devarre is most devastating with steel in his... strong hands.

The corpulent mage pockets more deviant thoughts for late when abed, then lazily nodding to himself he lumbers to where the forlorn treant lies.

Opening his fellmongering tools, the hemothurge-to-be beings the delicate task of harvesting the fallen giant’s bark for later use, knives and wicked hooks coming to bear...

As he does so, Cruxcarr repeatedly dips a fleshy finger into the treant’s wounds – licking it clean of the amber life sap with a depraved relish...

"Yes, yes. Restore the horn, kill the other pink-skins, then off to bigger and better things." Mi'Dre mutters, growing tired of Sholano's posturing. He had no real desire to do anything to the boggards now that their leader was dealt with and they had someone who would cooperate. As long as they did what they were told... "What can you tell us about the horn? Are there other horrible things that eat the little froggy-woggies?"

Minor Crab-beast

"Much to horn... much below... secret way can show... walking path yours to follow."...

The boggard then talks in a rambling manner as he leads you steadily into the caverns. You discover that the caverns actually sit below a temple complex that is hidden by both rock and brush from easy external view. There are twin stairs that lead above, but the boggards have not yet ascended them - instead keeping to their caverns below the temple proper.

Of note as you move through are:

  • A cavern that sweats acid from the walls.
  • A set of boiling mudpits.
  • The boggard village bears nineteen... well, now eighteen fighting weight boggards including their shaman.
  • A pool that contains weird pale blue blind cave fish with delicate thread-like spines on their forefins.
  • A cavern covered with a vibrantly colored blue slime like mold. Hears-the-Father looks reverently into this one.

More details later on, but also give me a Perception check and any Knowledges that you might think appropriate.

The boggard shaman leads you into a large and high-vaulted cave that drips with water so constantly it seems as if it is perpetually raining. Fetid pools and luminescent algae combine to give the chamber an ominous greenish glow and a lingering stench.

The chamber is dominated by a large and impressive mud and stick hut that is surprisingly sturdy. The entrance is decorated with bones and leather strips cut from dozens of creatures. Soon after you enter the chamber, the other Bane-Wog boggards begin to assemble... eyeing the new pink ones with some trepidation, and looking to their shaman for assurance.

Wow that's some bad rolls there Shendalyn :s

Minor Crab-beast

Compiling information:

Based on the iconography, the Father that is worshipped is Dagon, a demon lord.

As for 'Hears-the-Father' Mi'Dre gets the distinct impression that the older boggard is bat-sh1t insane. Raving mutterings to no-one and furtive twitches also suggest an addiction to substances similar to those that Shendalyn sought within the forest. Trust him? - never, but within his delusion there seems to be enough sanity to allow the boggard to be guided... of a sorts...

In the room of blue slime, there isn't much to suggest religion... but there is a miniscule little tunnel that leads from the base of the southern wall. It would take a significantly smaller frame than any of yours to fit through it though. Tiny size.

Later on I'll give you all the details of the rooms and floor-plans... you'll need it, when it comes to... well... you'll just have to wait and see...

Once assembled, Hears-the-Father croaks at the assembled crowd in the gutteral tongue of the boggards. Even without kenning the language you can follow it as a pantomine sermon, lauding the pink ones and your arrival. Equal parts pleading, threatening and rambling, the words finish with croaks of support and affirmation from the crowd.

After that, two female boggards slink forward and prostrate themselves before Jethryk - clearly making themselves submissive to him. Hears-the-Father croaks and gestures "Killer of Slays-Nine-Men... take what was his..."

Male Gaav (52/52 hitpoints) Inquisitor

Mi'Dre's body slowly tenses as he observes the shaman on his way through the caves. It doesn't seem like they were in immediate danger, but they might have to be a bit more cautious with how they treated him, and keep their true allegiances a secret. He bites his tongue to stop himself from muttering, and hunches over when the shaman starts croaking at the assembled massed.

When the boggards prostrate themselves he can't help but grin "Well aren't you lucky, O mighty warrior."

Hears-the-Father smiles and nods, jowls shaking as he does so. The two prostrate boggards reach up and begin pawing at Jethryk, attempting to drag him towards the hut... and based on their fairly direct intentions towards his anatomy, their intent is fairly clear.

Apart from Jethryk's little adventure - what's the plan? Secure the caverns first, or going to move towards the second level immediately?
