In other good news, the Destroyer's Handbook was just released, adding lots of new options for the Destruction sphere.

Of note - a talent to increase blast damage, a talent to do profane damage (+50% damage to Good), and a build-your-own-talent bit. This is gonna be fun. XD

It's my understanding that opening a lock is actually just a full round action, per the Disable Device rules under the Action section:
"Complex/Intricate Device: An intricate or complex device requires 1d4 or 2d4 rounds. Attempting to open a lock is a full-round action."

It's in sort of a weird place, they list all these other tables and stuff first, but if you hunt, there it is. I'm gonna proceed as if that's how it works, but if you're ruling differently, just assume Sholano's not functioning very well under the pressure. If it's gonna take multiple rounds, I would definitely move down to one of the melee fighters first, but otherwise, it would take me an extra round to get over there and set to work, so it makes just as much sense to me to try and get anyone into the fight.

Edit: Of course, it didn't work anyway, but I tried. Sorry, folks, 55% chance isn't working out in my favor just yet!

Hmmm... That section's definitely not the best-written area. A clearer differentiation between Devices and Locks would have been helpful. Still, you're correct. These locks aren't nearly complicated enough to warrant more than a full-round action.

No joke. Once they're up in his face, though (which I kind of expect to be, y'know...now), Sholano is going to have to turn to fight them, so at least there'll be something resembling fighting back. Just not a whole lot of it. I'm a lover, not a fighter, and I don't even have my main trick yet (Improved Feint) working for me. If it does come down to me stabbing folk, I'm gonna have to try and get them in a flanking position, which is somewhat difficult in this situation.

Entangled and pinned in place. Somatic casting is impossible, and nonsomatic abilities require a concentration check DC 15 + spell level.

People with natural weapons and/or Improved Unarmed Strike threaten the squares within their reach and can provide flanking. :-)

In other news, I personally find the window to be the most interesting item in Sholano's veil. Incredibly versatile but single-use.

Yes, I agree on no metagaming as I have also not looked at any spoilers. This is merely from Hal showing us the veil. Between the picture of a large window in it and him visibly pulling two items that are pictured on it from the silken veil I am only to assume a window would be one of them.

The Incanter is one of the classes introduced in Spheres of Power. It's the most pure caster-type in the book, and basically a build-it-yourself character that relies almost entirely on spells learned instead of class abilities, which is why it has so many of them.

(It can also specialize in various ways by trading out its bonus feats. So you could grab Domains, specialize in a Sphere, get a familiar, whatever.)


Methinks this next round will be very entertaining ... for the PCs. You've successfully lured both of them into terrible positions. Also, they've left the cell door wide open.

My work schedule changed, and my gaming availability has decreased significantly.
