I suppose you're right. I'll stick with barbarian and leave everything as is then. This character would lose a lot if she was anything other than a barbarian. Just a skill in tracking, killing, and tactics (a la, profession: soldier)

Inquisitor with the Rage Subdomain/Inquisition?

Wait, what about the Hateful Rager Archetype for Barbarians or the Wild Stalker for Rangers?

I"m actually thinking of choosing the human racial feat that allows me to act as another type, of humanoid (half-orc) so that I can take that archetype. I wouldn't actually go as a half-orc since... Hellknight...

But that's all second level ^_^ (except for the feat which I will select now)

If that's the the only thing keeping you from going Half-Orc just a heads up that there are non-human Hellknights. Castles of the Inner Sea has a Centaur and Inner Sea NPC Codex has a Half-Orc.

Huh, I knew about the Mistress of Blades being a Centaur, but always figured she was an exception, that Cheliax was generally too racist to take any non pureblooded humans at their protectors. In that case, I might just go half-orc!

Cheliax is, but only one Hellknight Order is actually aligned with them, the rest are kinda annoyed by them.

Silver Crusade

Order of the Scourge, which goes after Criminal Organizations, is actually very antagonistic towards House Thrune. So I could this one working fine.

Order of the Rack are History "Correctionists" and work for Thrune. So that's a no.

Order of the Nail, which goes against "Savagery", are a bunch of sadistic, torturous bigots and as CotIS shows they have given fully into Diabolism for the sake of pure evil and sadism, at least this goes for the ones in the Citadel Vraid. So that's a most definte BIG effin no.

Order of the Godclaw has a vast majority of its members as functioning Paladins. So this could work too.

Order of the Chain, which deals with Slaves and Slave owners, is a special case. While they chase down escaped Slaves and go after abolishes they also equally go after cruel or abusive Owners and Slavers. "The Chain goes both ways". The Lictorbis even a former slave. So a maybe?

Order of the Gate, deals with extra planar threats as well as serving as Internal Affairs for the other Orders. So don't see why this couldn't work either.

Order of the Pyre deals with cults and foreign religions. Maybe.

Hm. I figured she'd be a part of Order of the Chain. Ah well, I switched everything up in my character sheet, so now I am slightly better at survival and perception. At the very least, I'm glad my flavour could stay exactly the same.

"I would like to trade rolls with Lord Foul II's antipaladin. He won't be needing them anymore," Lisbeth says as she emerges from the darkened bedroom, chuckling momentarily. She then drops the bloody knife held at her side and strolls down the hall, whistling to herself.

Check the post again, added the main orders and now I'm going for the minor ones :3

Silver Crusade

Order of the Coil is based out of Sargava and tries to put down natives and their traditions while going after anyone who tries to help them or explore. Bunch of rascist Chelaxian supremacists. Big NOPENOPENOPE.

Order of The Pike, monster hunters, are technically disbanded. Maybe.

Order of the Scar, protects noble and goes after Assassins, very small. Another maybe.

I think a former Order of the Scourge would work just fine. She could see the Law before the reign of House Darius as the correct and official 'Law' and thus will be working to restore Talingarde to it's former glory, as well as going after the Mitrans who murdered her husband. The guilty will suffer her fury...

Had a major spark of inspiration and if possible I'd like to switch out the idea of a kitsune swashbuckler with a goblin empiricist investigator, change my focus to intelligence and keep wisdom as my foible.

GM, what are your thoughts on a Necromancer build? I was debating upon either going a Necromantic Wizard or maybe a Cleric of Urgothoa(with your permission and a good reason of course.) However, I know that going "MASSIVE MINIONS" may bog some things down especially over PbP. If you would rather not deal with that, I have a few other options but I would think a necromancer of some kind(cleric or wizard) would fit an evil campaign. For what it is worth, I would probably more focus on "kill the largest guy then raise his dead corpse" so a huge number of minions may be rare. I was also wondering what your stance on Leadership was considering the idea behind the campaign.

Thanks for the answers!

If you can keep it from bogging things down, then yeah. That'd be great. Worst case scenario we work through anything that's slowing down the game.

Going with a cleric of some kind for right now. My final choice sorta depends on my rolls.

Focus: Wisdom
Foil: Dex

Str: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17

Cha: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13

hmm not exactly great for a necromancer....though a battle cleric wouldn't do too bad....hmmmm

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Been shopping this character around, I hope you like her

Ardra:
Meet Lady Ardra Pain de Veau, she's a Tiefling Alchemist: Preservationist who's been convicted of murder. Prior to her arrest, she was a kingdom famous chef and brewer at an acclaimed restaurant and tavern. She dedicated her life to the pursuit of the culinary arts, and though she was a horror to work for, her skill by itself was enough to draw would-be students and apprentices from across Talingarde and beyond. So meticulous was she that she sourced and raised her own livestock on a private farm. Ardra has even had the honor of preparing a meal directly for the members of the royal house Darius, who in turn bestowed upon her titles, if not lands, commensurate for the gratitude they felt to someone whose talent is surely a gift and blessing from Mitra herself, and no wonder, that night's tour de force menu included such specialties of hers as Warm Rocket and Soilent Green Salad, Long Pork Stew, Le Nourrisson Joues* with braised mushrooms and fennel and Honeyed Sweetbreads Pie.

Ardra's rise in fame and status seemed to have no limits until her private farm received a surprise visit from the king's clerk along with an entire regimen as an honor guard for the king wished to gift the land to her, a tax free estate. But when the clerk arrived, train in tow, he found the entire compound abandoned as though every hand had had simply vanished in the middle of their chores. Upon investigation, he found gardens and green houses full of every edible imaginable, but upon checking the stockyards, abattoirs, and smoke houses, the clerk began vomiting uncontrollably at one horror after the next. Hundreds of horse stalls housing not horses but humanoids, mostly humans, wild-eyed, naked and filthy, their teeth broken out and tongues removed (he would later find evidence that the tongues had been ground and used to make a sort of potted meat). Where the veal pens should have been, he found children and halflings bound to the floor, tubes attached to bladders forced down their throats so they could be force fed. He discovered sausage and bologna obviously made from the meat and organs of sentient species, and on and on...

Once he reported to the king that in all likelihood the Lady Ardra had fed him, his family, vassals and retainers and anyone who'd ever been to her establishment on the meat of sapient humanoids he was incensed and disgusted. He voided her titles, had all records of her visits to the palace destroyed, sent out proclamations announcing her crimes and immediately signed warrants for hers and all people associated with either the restaurant or farm's arrest.

Definitely still recruiting. I'm thinking to keep recruitment till Friday, but I'm not really sure yet. For sure, it will not close any earlier than Wednesday.

But either way, I refuse to close recruitment until I have at least 2 applicants per spot to choose from.

Man, Focus/Foible is so restrictive. I guess the intent was to make "interesting" characters by having people have low stats in something other than charisma...but really all it does it screw with peoples ideas and make some things "unplayable" or atleast highly suspect.

•Race: Human

•Alignment: LE

•Deity: Asmodeus

•Class: Skald

•Traits: High Treason (campaign), Criminal

•Starting Wealth: None.

•Background Overview (more on character page): In his youthful years Anchard struggled with mental illness which manifested as voices and a dark spirit that lingered in the periphery always distracting or trying to persuade, but when ultimately his family became desperate on how to protect Anchard from himself and others, the dark spirit was the only one that did not betray him. Anchard has been in and out of prisons, on the run, and a career criminal ever since he escaped the asylum his family put him in. The dark spirit guided him to the worship of Asmodeus, and eventually down the path that led to his judgement of guilty for three counts of high treason; espionage, assassination, and sabotage.

@Anchard: First, this one doesn't matter much for you since it ended up the same anyways, but make sure you don't switch around stat order (specifically, Con comes before Int). Secondly, I'd like a little more detail in your background about how specifically you got charged with high treason (and the other charges mentioned).

Got the crunch down, working on the background.

Considering how many melee there are I'm withdrawing my antipaladin for a sorcerer
Dhampir, shadow bloodline going for the vampire feats, I'll even start with one,

1d10 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13dex
Con 8
1d10 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16 int
1d10 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16 wis
Cha 18
And he appears to be something of an Adonis anyway
I'm using a few bits and pieces of the backstory pretty much nothing but the personality of a previous submission (we barely made it out of the prison, and it was months ago, I don't remember much of what happened) mixed with a sudden flash of inspiration
Warren Powers was born in a small town a day's horse ride away from a bustling metropolis. Born of rape, by one with so called "cursed blood" (a vampire) he always tried to hide this fact, and due in no small part to his good looks and charming way of speaking was largely successful. Warren was always a bright, charming lad, that everyone said was going places.
When he unlocked magical powers everyone said that it was only natural that the gods would favor him as well. Unfortunately not all would go as planned.
One night Warren snuck into the temple of the local sun god, hoping to steal a powerful magical item rumored to be capable of allowing vampires and their kin to walk in the sunlight unharmed, this being a contingency for in case his blood were to strengthen further as he believed it would once he pieced together where his magic came from.
Unfortunatly as fate would have it he was caught by one of the fledgling acolytes cleaning the temple. In a panic warren struck out with his magics and killed the man scared he would be caught. Within hours of his first kill he was captured and sentance to death for the crimes of murder, attempted theft, trespassing and blasphemy.

Character story:
Corvina Veehal ,or Coral as she prefers to be called was one of most talanted students in the Talingarde's academy of arcane arts.

Her natural charisma quickly made her unofficial leader among the other students.
Her admirers would follow her every reckless whim, from wild night parties to cruel pranks against students she disliked.
Most teachers were willing to turn blind eye to her mischiefs, because of her unquestionable tallant in the magic art and her personal charm.
At least until she finally crossed the line.

Corvina has always been intrigued by the dark power and forbidden knowledge and extremely annoyed that some dull zealots, without even a hint of arcane tallant are allowed to hamper her education.
And when she find out information about secret vault inside the academy ,that contained scrolls and books forbidden by the church of Mitra, the temptation was too great.
She dig up as much as she could and with her gang of admirers devised a plan to get in the vault.
Alas one of her "friends" proved too pious ,and in the last moment alerted the authorities.
Normally the students should be under the jurisdiction of the academy , but since the vault contained not only scrolls, but also artifacts and relics of the asmodean faith, the wizards choose not to confront the church . Corvina was expelled and judged by the clergy.
Found guilty of high theft she is sent to Branderscar prison.

Stats and some description soon. The story assumes a lot about Talingarde i don't even know if they have magical academy,so let me know if something contradicts too much.

Nope, that's perfect. I would rather adapt the campaign to your backgrounds. Which was why I didn't give a whole bunch of info on Talingarde. Once again I'll say, if anyone wants more information about any particular part of Talingarde though, feel free to ask. I do have the info.

This campaign sure seems to be getting plenty of interest. I suggest six of us make an alliance for now and fight off the others! My expertise in war tells me that is the best way to survive the selection process!

Well, despite the awful rolls, here we go!

Ashmoniel Augmirina
Elven Wizard (conjuration, teleportation) 1
Barred schools necromancy, divination)
Lawful Evil Female Medium Humanoid (elf)

Spoiler:

It’d seemed so natural, at first. My research had led me through ancient elvish libraries, and gnomish ones too. I’d spoken with sylphs and communed with celestials, all to no avail. All because I felt, at the waning of my teenage decades, the cold eye of death beginning to turn my way. But the heat that came with summoned devils… that brought the promise of warmth. Of life truly everlasting.

Such a pity the knowledge I needed was lost, burned in the Mitran purges that drove Asmodeus’s worshippers from Talingarde. A mere eight or so decades ago. Had I but the foresight as a younger woman, I could’ve visited those libraries freely - rather than digging through the embers and scraps, tombs and scrolls saved in the vault of decadent noble families too foolish or shortsighted to realise what they held.

Still, at least such company maintained the comforts to which an elvish mage becomes accustomed - at a certain expense. The risks of a little light slave-trading seemed so small, further reduced by judicious enchantments, when one daily risked the wrath of Talingarde’s divine advengers for ‘consorting with the dark powers’, when Sir Balin of Karfeld himself sought one’s body for the fires…

Yet it was the mere city guard who caught me, and the headsman who’ll claim my scalp, and slippers for his wife, and the few hundred years I’d expected to have… lost, wasted… Brandescar Prison is inescapable.

Ash’s crime of slave-trading was to serve as the interface between the decadent noble ‘buyer’ and the foreign slave-trader, whilst studying their secret libraries and stashes of Asmodian material for the secret to eternal life. She has links with (but sees herself as socially above) the black-market underground, and closer ties to decadent noble families, who she looks down upon for their shortsightedness and lack of academic drive and rigour.

It having been made clear to her that leniency would only involve a slightly less-traumatic death, she’s avoided naming the particular noble family she was working for, both out of honour and because she’s no desire to burn for the more serious crime of ‘consorting with dark powers’, though that family’s influence over the justice system might also have something to do with it. The foreign slave-traders she was working with were long gone before the net closed around her, and the few hirelings she’d bothered with - the task, after all, should’ve posed no great difficulty for an elven mage - were streetwise enough to scarper before her capture. Once again, both loyalty - and the lack of value the small-fry possess to the guard - prevented her from turning evidence against them. Not that it would’ve done much good in Talingarde’s harsh-but-fair justice system. She’s guilty as sin, after all...

Spoiler:

Just to check - the Dimensional Agility feat works with the arcane conjoration-teleportation school ability ‘swift’? It seems like it should, but if not, I’ll take a different feat.

I wish I could let you re-roll for a different concept, but it is too easy for others to take advantage of the system like that. I'm afraid I'm going to have to stick to my guns on this one. Especially since if you change the focus/foible on the stats you rolled before, you end up with:

Str: 15
Dex: 12
Con: (Foible) 8
Int: 14
Wis: 10
Cha: (Focus) 18

Which is still completely viable for a sorcerer as well as a good 29 point buy.

Meh fiiiiiine

If the character dies, can the next character have those stats?

I have a story, but it gives character a chaotic feel, but i was going NE.

I did not roll stats as i want to develop the story first.

As far a crime goes well my lava gnome idea has commited most of those crimes but was actually sntenced to arson. Though has committed fraud and murder, just never convicted.

Going lava gnome summoner multi class into sorcerer with fire elemental bloodline.

We'll talk about that if it happens. I will say now (since I haven't before this) if you get below a 15 point buy, you can re-roll.

Jonahkan, everything I've looked at says no, shift doesn't work for Dimensional Agility. However, I am willing to houserule that, as I see no reason it should need to be the way it is.

Since we begin imprisoned, how would that effect someone who depends on alchemy for extracts?
I haven't picked any out because I imagine, as an imprisoned investigator, I won't have access to a formula book or any components. Would I end up picking some along the way?
