With a look of utter loathing on her haggard face, Malikadna points at Darvesch and shrieks, "Haaaiiiryyy Raaa-aat!!! Aaah-ha-ha-haaa!!!"

Instantly, Darvesch drops his axe and look of surprise flashes across his face as his nose becomes pointed and his hair grows ever thicker. A moment later, there is the clatter of metal striking the ground as he shrinks to about the size of a small dog within his armor, a long hairless tail behind him and whiskers protruding from where his beard was a moment ago.

Well, better than an eel... Darvesch thinks ruefully, his mind still his own. It does occur to him that he's going to be in a bad way if he doesn't get away from the wasps though. Still, at least he can tell where the witch is if only because of the sweet smelling oils Alis coated her with. What is that, strawberries?

Her spell cast, Malikadna then points her staff at Priyya and another bolt of lighting shakes the village as it impacts her. The witch cackles loudly as she begins to take flight, yet her laughter is soon squelched when she witnesses that the bolt had little more effect than frying the wasps still clinging to the priestess' robes!

In Priyya's hands, the giant blade reverberates with anger, desiring to strike but finding its wielder perhaps too weak to properly fulfill its lust for vengeance. Or is she...?

Seeing the changes overcoming Darvesch, Priyya decides it is time to risk unlocking what the sword can do... whatever that is.

Saying, "Skaythur and Fragarach!" she drives the sword at the downed hag.

Theme: Sin

Priyya raises Skather on high to strike and calls out its true name. Yet even as she seeks to drive the blade home, she feels an overwhelming surge of vile energy emanate from the blade like the heartbeat of some fell creature from beyond the lower planes.

Unholy power scorches her hands and the blade falls from her insensate hands, a burning red eye now glaring up at her from the large star ruby mounted in its pommel. Beneath her, Priyya feels her legs go limp, just barely holding her up, unable to will her body to move.

With a shrill laugh, Malikadna rises into the air not noticing the flying serpent hovering above her.

What in heaven's name?!

Alis looks in shock at Priyya wondering what just happened.

The lightning didn't seem to phase her and it can't be the poison unless Mal's spell failed. Was it that sword?

Looking back to the witch as she flies up past Grak, she grits her teeth.

Dammit, don't you botch my shot, Grak...

Back indoors, the burning webs and oil cause the first wave of the spider swarm to break up and flee, merging with another wave still pouring thru the door. The last of the web burns away leaving just a burning grease-spot on the floor which the spiders flow around as they head straight for the buxom beauty before them.

Seeing that they have bigger problems though, Sasha lets go of the priceless bottle of Shadow Liqueur and instead murmurs, "Well, looks like we've got bigger problems right now, huh?"

With that, she tears into the zombie hoping to sever tendons, weaken joints, or anything else that might take it back out of the fight. Her attack strikes true, but rather than retaliating, it instead turns tail and runs back towards the direction of the others!

"HEY!"

Perturbed that her quarry is getting away, she slashes at it again leaving a fairly inconsequential mark on the back of its knee as it races away. Pissed off, she runs after it shaking her fist.

"BASTARD, you're not getting a– nooo WAY!"

Eyes big as saucers, Sasha blanches at the mass of giant zombies all trying to squeeze their way thru the gap between this building and the next.

She turns, looking back at Lureene who is on the verge of being covered in spiders and calls out, "Holy hell El, something's going on over here! That witch b&#!~ is laughing her ass off!"

Glancing away from the oncoming tide of spiders, Lureene finds that the doorway is now clear although she can see at least four zombies giants all jammed-up not 30-feet past Sasha. That's when she hears Grak's communique...

Lureene:
Misssstressss, the dwarf jussst disssappeared from hisss metal ssskin. Priyya ssswung at the witch, but she dropped the sssword and jussst standsss ssstill. The greasssy witch fliesss right at Grak, what should Grak do?

Priyya has a great deal of time to curse herself as her motionless body watches the press of encircling undead. She should have followed her first instinct and tossed that damned blade off the cliff. Priyya considers her mistake, she assumed that a blade so evil would have hammered her as soon as she picked it up. Well, I only have to live with this mistake until these bastards get around to killing me - that shouldn't take too long.

But the idea of dying under the fists or teeth of these undead bothers Priyya a great deal less than the thought of her singular failure in Alita's service. For Surya-ka-Vahaak, this was unforgivable.

Grak does his best to follow his mistress' imperative. He snaps at the witch as she flies past and she seemingly pays him no heed. Flapping up after her, Grak gives it his all and clamps down on the witch's index finger, yet his weak jaws is unable to do more than crack her fingernail.

"Eeeh?"

Malikadna looks at the curious little creature and shakes him off. Frantically he tries to swat at her with his tail but it unable to connect.

Lureene:
Sssorry misssstressss, I bited her, she didn't bleed...

From the rooftop, Alis's jaw clenches as her shot just got that much harder.

For the love of... DAMMIT GRAK!

Groaning inwardly at Grak's lack of martial prowess, Lureene races outside hoping to catch a glimpse of the flying witch. Angling herself somewhat northward as she runs out the door, she is just able to spot her scraggly head. Without delay, she snaps off a spell with her wand, hoping that it's enough to finish her off.

Three missiles streak forward towards her and Malikadna grunts in surprise as they collide... with her shield spell.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Alis sees Lureene's magic missile streak towards Malikadna and she feels a flicker of hope.

Hang in there Priyya, I'm getting you out of– NO!

A simple shield spell, one of the most elementary defenses Alexis had ever learned. While Alis had scoffed at ever learning it, trusting instead to the sacred defenses learned thru her time at the temple, she recalled her sister shaking her head. 'Do not dismiss it so lightly, Alissariel. It is a simple defense, true, yet impervious to another simple spell — one that strikes without fail. Even simple spells have their use...'

Alis cannot hear Malikadna's laughter as she hovers, gloating and belaying her army of zombies to revel in the moment, she cannot hear the wasps as they continue to bite and sting at Darvesch, now a rat stuck within his own suit of armor. Looking down, she's not sure if she'll have time to save Priyya or not.

If the witch lives, we're all either dead or worse...

Narrowing her eyes, Alis takes a step back to ensure nothing can strike at her and raises her twin sister's unlikely weapon, flaming bolt protruding past the end of the stock. Sighting past the flapping wings of Grak, Alis whispers quiet prayer, "Luck be a Lady," before raising her left hand to steady the shot.

"Hey Malikadna!"

The witch's laughter abates as she turns in mid air. Her look of contempt is like a cliff regarding a pebble, the eldest and wisest of her people, she whose memory was nearly as old as their civilization itself. What nerve this insignificant little woman with her long tresses and lusty curves had!

Ehh? That face!

Recognition finally dawns in the witch's eye upon realizing this is the same woman responsible for the massacre of her people. Pointing at Alis she screams in bloody rage, urging her zombies to stand up and tear her limb from limb. Yet the din of the undead is not loud enough to drown out Alis' parting shot.

Burn in hell... WITCH!"

With that, she squeezes the trigger and a fiery trail traces thru the humid night air, storm clouds and lightning churning high above. In an instant, the flying witch realizes her error. While the ability to fly absolved her of falling a second time, she was still soaked in flammable oil! Contorting her old frame in mid-air, Malikadna tries to pivot her shield spell around, but the tiny magical projectile just barely penetrates it, lodging in her thick calloused hide.

In a panic, she tries to smother the tiny brand but even in her youth she could not have moved quickly enough. Nary a split second after she is struck, the conjured grease ignites.

Screaming like a banshee, the old witch flails about trying to extinguish herself, but it is too much. Although in no danger of dying before the flames would normally be spent, combined with the lumps from her earlier fall off of the roof it is too much. Consciousness fade as does concentration on maintaining her powers of flight. The old with plummets like a stone, her head striking the corner of the building on the way down, leaving a red steak all down the side of the wall.

As the witch suffers her fiery fall, Alis has time for only a short sigh of relief before all around her, the zombies begin clawing their way up the side of the the building.

Well, I guess that was one way to rescue Priyya...

From all over the camp, the giant zombies push and shove, tramping anything in their path as they seek to climb up onto the room to fulfill their creator's last command. Darvesch's armor gets kicked around as one zombie runs right into the swarm of wasps

Priyya can feel two more rush past her even as one of the undead harem girls stumbles within a few feet of Sasha as she is shoved out of the way by the larger, more powerful males.

All along the eastern wall, giant zombies begin pulling themselves up onto the roof. Two make it all the way to the top. The first two receive black leather boots to the face as soon as they shows their faces and falls back to the ground. Beneath the one in the middle of the wall, there is a loud crunching sound as the one-armed zombie's rib cage is crushed in the fall.

Not far in front of Sasha, the harem girl nearly reaches the top as well.

Looking around to see if there is anyone else nearby who can possibly help, Alis spies the glow of a light spell and sees Lureene just beyond it.

"EEELLL!!!" She waves as she gives the first zombie a boot to the head, "Priyya's paralyzed and Dar' got turned into a rat!"

Damned persistent bastards! She kicks the second one back down.

"Use the dryad's charm and get them out of here! I'll keep the zombies distracted!" As an afterthought she murmurs to herself, "I hope..."

Dwarf Lightbringer

Darvesch, now a big rat, enjoys the show of the witch burning. However, his bloodlust isn't satiated just yet. He realizes that what he's about to attempt will be dangerous, being surrounded by zombies, and dealing with a burning body. He looks for the the best spot on the neck to rip a chunk from her flesh, and tries to sink his teeth in her still burning body.

Coup de Grace:

If she's alive from that damage: Fort DC 10 + Damage, or die anyway ;)

Lureene nearly cries out in despair when she sees her missiles strike the witch without effect. She feels a sense of hope as she watches the witch fall, but curses when she sees the zombies swarm Alis.

When she hears Alis' command, she shakes her head in exasperation. I am out of spell energy, how in the Nine Hells does she expect me to do that? Still, she calls back, "I will do my best 'Lis!"

Male Sky Elf Game Master lv 20

Not content to leave anything to chance, Darvesch darts out from his armor, escaping from the swarm of wasps only to dive into the flames burning the witch.

Right before her eyes, Priyya sees the giant rat sinks his teeth into Malikadna's jugular and tear it free, bathing himself in her blood. Yet before he can revel too much in his victory, the smell of burning fur reaches his sensitive nose and he realizes that his fur has caught fire!

On the far side of the battle, the swarm of spiders begins to break up now that the will urging them onward has faded and their prey has fled. From within the lighthouse arrise screams of horror echo as hundreds of vermin flee under the front door! The wasps however, continue to sting and devour the zombie closest to them...

Ignoring them for a minute, she asks, "Hey, you don't suppose Alis would give me a reward or something if I save her, do you?"

Without waiting for a reply, she runs up and vaults off the wall delivering a slash to the female zombie climbing near her. The zombie stumbles a bit, but doesn't fall. "Hey, do you think that wand of yours would work on these guys?"

Looking up at Grak, as he flies over, she says, "Be a dear, Grak, and make some noise to cover my escape, would you? OH, and tell Lureene I'll help Priyya."

With a tip of her head and a few words of magic, Alis disappears from sight. Snapping her fingers to dispel the grease-slick, she races along the edge of the roof and leaps off towards Priyya. With Malikadna's guiding will gone, some of the zombies begin to revert to their intrinsic state. The harem girl slashed by Sasha and the warrior who shoved her both turn at the sound of combat. The woman drops down attempting to slam Sasha into the ground but the redhead narrowly dodges the attack.

Next to the female zombie, the former berserker looks around at the sound to combat and sees a short, voluptuous blonde and charges. Lureene cries out in pain as the zombie strikes her, and also feels the pain Grak suffered as he is also struck. Well, at least we have their undivided attention now.

She calls out to her friend, "Sash, see if you can lead these zombies away from the others! We need to buy 'Lis some time here!"

Male Sky Elf Game Master lv 20

Darvesch hops off the witch, careful not to provoke the ire of the giant zombie that's right next to him. As he runs past Priyya, he would swear that he can smell his old friend, the princess, although he doesn't see her anywhere. Putting the thought of mind, he concentrates on rolling in the dirt as soon as he's out of harm's way until the flames are extinguished before escaping into the undergrowth.

Sasha frowns a bit, clearly irritated. "You know, these guys were a lot more fun to kill the first time around..."

At Lureene's distress, she notices her curvy friend clearly isn't built for taking a whoopin'. She points to the north and says, "Get back in that alleyway and back up a bit and I'll cover you. We'll make these guys come at us one at a time."

Sasha delays until after Lureene has withdrawn.

As soon as Lureene has run past her, Sasha follows suit. She nearly runs into her friend, however, when the winged-woman stops short. "Uh... why'd you stop for? I'm still exposed here!"

She looks behind her to see Grak leading the giants on the rooftop on a merry chase. "Well, get that wand out or something, we're gonna have company..."

Theme: The Words

With their prey having climbed to safety, the angry swarm of wasps shifts direction and once more encroaches on the softer and more flavorful targets of Priyya and her unseen rescuer.

Ow, OW, OW!

Even as Priyya is certain that she's done for and will have to answer to Alíta in failure, she feels someone or something stick their leg inbetween hers then grab her right hand pulling it straight up into the air before being draped across... someone's shoulder?

While her nose is nowhere near as sensitive as Mal's, she still recognizes the faint traces of lavender that most of Alis' clothing carries. A moment later, she feels the tiny girl's head below her armpit and her shoulder press into her mid-section, arm wrapped around the back of the priestess' right knee and grabbing her sword hand.

And in an instant, she feels her weight shift as she is hoisted off her feet, the ground bobbing up and down below her as the invisible girl totes her off. Once out of the swarm and some distance beyond the battle, she can hear the princess whisper apologetically, "I've got you Priyya... that's no way to be sent to the afterlife."

She jogs in silence for a bit before adding, "If it's any consolation, the priestesses of my order are taught this technique in order to save men of high station so don't be offended. Gods know you've picked me up plenty of times on this path we've been set upon — the least I can do is reciprocate as I'm able."

For a moment, Priyya wonders if Alis is talking at such length to comfort her, or just to hear herself talk. Either way, the warrior-priestess realizes she may yet have a chance to take up the sword in Alíta's cause yet again...

Gibbering incoherently, the undead harem girl that Sasha killed earlier runs up and tries to clobber her but just can't seem to land a hit. Further back, two more giants come running attracted by the noise and movement. The first one to get there shoves the woman out of the way and up against the side of the tower.

With a laugh, Sasha takes advantage of the opening to score the she-zombie's ankle with a deep slash. Her crazy laughter continues as the over-eager ex-berserker slams its fist into the wall in a vain attempt to squash her pretty head. Behind him, another zombie bellows loudly, enraged that it cannot reach whatever the other two are after.

Judging by her manic laughter, Lureene can only presume Sasha is either about to crack, or she's having the time of her life.

Up on the rooftop, Grak flaps his wings frantically, trying to keep ahead of and above the level at which the three zombies pursuing him are capable of reaching. The first one runs and jumps, swatting at the retreating serpent like a child trying to bat a butterfly out of the air.

A thick, meaty hand whallops the frail familiar knocking him out of the air and rendering him unconscious. Miraculously he avoids getting trampled into oblivion when another zombie runs up, slavering in hunger, and bowls the first zombie into the prisoner pen below.

Back in the alley of death, the last zombie gets back to its feet only to notice the limp form of Priyya levitate and start bobbing away behind the nearby shack. Heedless of the wasp swarm, the slavering undead cannibal plows thru their midst and finds the tasty morsel flying away from him at a taunting speed. It turns the corner and begins to give chase even as wasps burrow into its flesh!

Lureene nearly sobs aloud as her faithful companion is knocked unconscious. She knows she could provide him with some of her own life energy to keep him alive and on this plane, but she decides against that action...for now.

Rest easy, Grak, you will be OK, I promise.

She knows Sasha is having the time of her life fighting these giants, but she would still need some assistance. Seeing her eagle banished earlier, she decides to summon another of the flock that hunt and swoop in the skies in the Celestial realms. Once she has finished her summoning, she retreats further down the alleyway.

After seeing Priyya get hoisted and hearing a faint whispering voice run past, Darvesch breathes a small sigh of relief. That is until he sees a giant zombie cannibal berserker coming straight at him! Jaws clenched, he pulls back and races up the wall of Malikadna's hovel with all the speed and finesse he lacked in his natural dwarven form.

As he watches, the giant turns the corner and runs past chasing after whomever it was that passed him by just a moment before. Far in the distance for his little legs, within the glow of a light spell, he sees another scintillating eagle appear and dive to attack. Noting his rather small size now, Darvesch is suddenly keenly aware that cover might not be a bad idea.

Looking around, he can see that just to his south-east is a chimney leading down inside the building — the same one the chimps were looking in earlier...

Back within the radius of Lureene's light spell, her eagle attacks the giantess who just barely manages to avoid it raking talons.

Sasha grins broadly at the new flanking buddy her curvaceous friend was thoughtful enough to summoned. "Thanks El," she chimes.

With that, she weakens the giantess' other ankle, while still making certain to keep her defenses up. After landing her hit, she goes to tumble further into the opening, but a divot in the weeds trips her up. She just barely manages to avoid getting slammed up against the wall of the lodge by the berserker, but the giantess lands a slobberknocker on her and she bounces and crashes down the alleyway only just barely managing to rolls back to her feet, brains addled.

"OOF!" she spits out... something before licking a rivulet of blood running down the corner of her mouth. "Dunno of that was part of my lung or what, but I don't feel anything missing... well, nothing important anyway."

On the south side of the camp, the wasps pursue the zombie that just ran thru their midst even as it chases after Alis and Priyya. The princess gives a soft curse and hurries around the corner racing along the wall. Yet when the sound of commotion reaches her from further west, she halts and kneels lowering Priyya to the ground.

A few arcane words later and Priyya finds that she can see neither herself nor Alis. She does hear the princess' angry whisper though, "I've had it with all the gods-be-damned giants on this gods-be-damned island!"

The atrocious-looking giant zombie harem girl shoves her way past her male counterpart and charges headlong at Sasha hoping to trade one death for another. The huntress easily avoid the attack, however she just barely has time to shout a warning as the male behind her comes barreling down the alley way, knocks over the giantess, forces Sasha to press herself up against the lighthouse to get out of the way, and runs over the unsuspecting succubus, before running headlong into a tree with a loud *CRACK*!

Lureene hears the cracking of wood and bone before the giant and the crown of the tree come falling towards her. Quickly, the rolls out of the way just as the giant thuds to the ground. She briefly sees that it crushed its skull and neck into its body cavity before the top of the tree falls upon it with a sickening crunch.

From around the corner, Lureene can hear Sasha screaming her name, trying to figure out if she's OK or not.

Sasha has little time to fret over her though before the next zombie runs up, stepping on the harem girl and swinging at the nimble redhead, whom he thankfully misses.

Further south, the zombies push and shove, fighting over Grak's body. One zombie squats down to pick him up while another tries to slap the first away desiring Grak for itself. He is unsuccessful, however, and the first one scoops the white serpent up in both hands.

Angry and hungry, the other isn't satisfied and grabs onto the other end, pulling hard as he tries to rip Grak free. Mercifully, Grak is already unconscious for the strain on his frail form is too much and he gets ripped in half in the ravenous tug-of-war leaving both zombies empty-hand and enraged as their prize vanishes back to the plane from whence he came. One of the two falls back heavily on the roof of the guard room, the other staggering backwards yet keeping his feet.

Staggering from around the corner, Alis sees the warp-infested zombie finally clear the building and turn north following the same path along which its white-robed treat floated just seconds earlier. It runs roughly along the path from the skeleton pen, perhaps force-of-habit from its very recent prior life.

Unable to sense the lurking vixen protecting her friend, it runs right past Alis who lashes out delivering a solid kick that dislodges a vertebrae resulting in a terrible rending sound as the zombie's body, unable to support its own great weight, and already weakened by hundreds of wasps stripping away muscle and ligament tears apart and falls to the ground raising up a small cloud of wasps that hover over its corpse.

Glad that worked, the spell I cast on Priyya was the last of my magic...

Breathing hard, Alis drops to her knees next to Priyya, both of them now able to see one another. She gives her a lopsided grin. "And Mal says I hit like a girl! After we're done here? Not a problem. I was just doing some 'color commentary' from Priyya's perspective. :)

In his present form, Darvesch find climbing to be child's play. He descends the chimney into the late witch's home and immediately wishes he had been turned into a creature without such a sensitive nose. Upon reaching the bottom of the flue, the polymorphed dwarf finds himself looking at a large, cast iron cauldron half-full of a thick, bubbling gruel. To say the stuff is noxious would be an understatement. The pungent vapors wafting up cause his eyes to water and his head to reel and he quickly scurries down to the hearth lest he pass out and land in either the witch's brew or the low flames beneath it...
