Alton swings at the priest between himself and Sarah, but when he misses, his follow-through causes his blade to become lodged in the table beside him. He just barely wrenches it free in time to avoid a cut from a dagger.

Priyya nods to Alton. "It never crossed my mind to listen to him. As for doing his work him... I think not." She looks to the dark knight. "If you want this 'Sorsha', try to take her yourself. I'm busy annihilating your pathetic priests."


Mal growls out rustic words of power has he steps into the fray, his skin thickening as he takes up a defensive stance between Darkmane and the new warrior.

"But you'll have to go through me first, big guy."

Cast Barkskin on self then 5' step to I-19.

I'm having the hardest time deciding whether to go offensive or buff while the fight is at a temporary stall... i guess since i won't get another chance to buff...


Buffing is good. Buffing is wise. If this guy mauled an Erinyes, he probably can whack the crap out of stuff - so every point of AC is goooooood. And if you keep protecting Priyya like this, she might develop a bit of a crush on you. ;) You... Manimal!


Lureene assesses the situation before her. The Coil is fighting minions of the Demon King? What does that mean? How does Sasha fit into this…or is it Sorsha?

She looks at the Dark Knight, ready to move in and engage Mal, and decides to slow him down. Quickly she casts a spell, gyrating her body movements to match, and a puddle of thick black viscous liquid appears in front of the knight.

Cast Grease in squares I16-J17, DC 10 Acrobatics check to move through squares.

The knight nods to Priyya and responds. "Death is the fate of all who are born. I shall instruct you on this universal truth personally."

When Mal issues his challenge and steps in his path, the armored man replies dispassionately, "Regret plagues only the living. Your choice shall not burden you for long."

When a stream of grease from Lureene's hand suddenly coats the floor before him, the dark champion shakes his head. Turning toward the ashen form of the slain devil, he steps forward unperturbed, his movement causing her remains to crumble away into a pile of soot.

With a steady, unhurried gait, the knight walks around the grease and up to Mal, sword in hand. Gazing past him at Sarah, the knight's eyes glow red and shadows begins to play across the surface of his blade and armor.

Beads of sweat roll down the hunter's back and even Priyya knows fear as her aura of courage is shattered like a glass sphere by the man's very presence.


"Thanks Sarah!" Sasha calls out. She promptly inflicts another cut on the man in front of her. With a hint of annoyance when he does go down, she slashes at him with a dagger she had concealed in her left hand but misses.

"Hey big guy, I hate to tell you, but you've got the wrong red head. My name's not Sorsha, it's Sasha."

Priyya whips around and attempts to shear the skull from the assassin standing between Sasha and herself...

The sound from the summoning portals intensifies and three large, red wasps, as big as Gelik fly thru. Each one makes a furious dash toward the nearest black-robed cultist, their saw-bladed stingers dripping with venom.

Sasha stiffles a curse and drops to the ground just as the creature flies over her. At the same instant, Priyya wheels landing a terrific blow against the man behind her that splits his throat wide open. He staggers for a moment, eyes wide and mouth agape before the nearest wasp swoops down and pierces the back of his head with its stinger. Instantly the eyes roll back in his head and he vanishes into the same black fog.

Barely 10 feet away, Alton gives a surprised curse as another of the infernal beasts whisks its way past him to gouge the cultist by him in the shoulder. Although he seems otherwise uninjured, you note that his movements become slightly more clumsy.

Finally, over by Aerys and Alis, the third wasp's sting forces that cultist to his knees, but it's the crack of Aerys' fist that snaps his neck and sends him tumbling down into the water below. Like those slain before him, his body turns into fog though only the dark knight is close enough to reap the man's dying boon.

Working another spell into her song, Alis leaps into the air. She soars quickly but gracefully past Aerys descending upon the dark knight, her thin blade drawing blood from a narrow gap in his armor. Upon alighting next to the oil slick on the floor, she does something you've never known her to do and takes up a defensive posture.

Alis is now close enough for everyone but Lureene to benefit from the effects of her bardic inspiration.

Ignoring the poison that slows his defense, the last priest drives his dagger at Sarah's back, his blade sinking deep into her left shoulder. Once again, its unholy energy wracks her with pain sapping away her life-force.

"Bastard!" Alton thrusts at the black-robed man again. His attack just barely connects, the wasp's poison already taking an effect on the cultist. Even so, it is a telling wound and he looks to be in just as bad of shape now as the woman he just attacked.

"Hang in there, Sarah!"

Lureene puts thoughts of the previous encounter with the servants of the Coil out of her mind, and slips her newly acquired wand into her hand. She chants a magical phrase and points the wand at the Dark Knight where several white glowing lights fly at him!

Once she has unleashed her magic at him, she steps closer to Sasha, ready to back up her friend against their common foe.

The battle fervor reaches a crescendo as another wordless roar fills the room, claws blazing swaths across the knights body.

Theme: Sin

With a deafening roar, Mal spins and rips the head off the last cultist showering Alton with a spray of blood. Once more, the man's body dissolves, healing the knight.

Maintaining his momentum, the blood-crazed soldier tears at the their leader. While it surely would have been a grievous blow against any other man, the knight drops his stance at the last moment so Mal's claws impact the thick metal of his helm rather than his gorget. Even still, the blow sheers clear thru the bone faceplate leaving bloody gashes across the man's clean-shaven jaw.

In a hollow voice, the knight says, "Commendable."

With suprising speed for a man of his size, he rushes forward catching Mal under the chin with the top edge of his shield and hurling him backwards a good 10 feet. He moves forward with the attack bringing him face-to-face with Priyya. His black blade erupts with shadowy blue flames and the blade screams with unholy fervor as it descends upon her.

In an instant, Priyya knows that this is the end. Even were she still uninjured, there is little that she could do. At least she was able to take many of the cultists with her and walk the path of the Surya-ka-Vahaak this long. She takes one last breath, knowing that she will soon be with Alíta in the after-life.

She can see Alis and Alton shouting for her, trying to reach the anti-paladin, but their words are too slow to distinguish...

A deafening impact shakes the entire tavern as the unholy blade cleaves downward even sundering the floor below. Priyya feels a flying sensation, feel herself falling from a terrific blow. She strikes a hard object and hits the floor...

To her surprise she is not looking down at her body from above.

Somehow she sees and with her own corporeal eyes. Looking around she sees Lureene standing above her, mouth agape at something on the other side of her. Turning quickly, Priyya questions whether she hit her head or is delusional. Towering over her, wearing red cuirboilli over a skin-tight black cat-suit is a tall red-haired woman with intense green eyes and a saw-toothed blade in each hand. Beside her hovers one of the over-sized wasps.

Sasha?!

Raising her head, Priyya sees the blackguard standing a good 15 feet away, his sword having just demolished a large hole in the floor where she had been standing. A gasp to her right turns her head and she finds that Sasha is still lying upon the ground from where she ducked the incoming wasp a moment ago. The look on her face is one of astonishment, and hope tinged with more than a bit of apprehension.

The woman gives Priyya a wry smile. "Please forgive the trouble my idiot cousin has caused you."

When she turns her head to keep the blackguard in her sight, you can make out the tips of pointed ears poking thru her wavy red hair. "Also, you have my appreciation for not handing her over to save your own neck. I'm not used to saying this, particularly to members of your order, but... thank you."

She slips on a wasp-like helmet and says, "Now then, shall we send our grim guest to meet his master? It took some time, but I've taken care of his lackeys outside."

Priyya pulls herself up and nods politely. She looks at the hole in the floor and says, "I'd say any debts are settled. Thank you." Her eyes drift to Sorsha's cousin, "As for Sasha, there was no choice. She is an innocent and we don't bargain with evil, not even to save our own lives."


"You're welcome, and yes we can consider it settled."

At some silent command from the woman who summoned them, the three wasps streak towards the blackguard. Miraculously, two of them manage to sting him thru gaps in his armor, one on the face where Mal broke his visor.

Sasha gets back to her feet, mouth agape. She looks about to speak when Sorsha cracks her in the solar plexus with her elbow, dropping her to the ground like a sack of bricks. "Sorry, but you'll be safer if you sit this one out. Go crawl away for now."

Gasping for air, the evidently younger cousin scrambles away coughing as she hurries towards the bar.

Priyya debates what to do... His principle target is Sorsha but he's focused his unholy power on me for the moment so I must be a ripe choice as well... I'd be a fool to close with him.

Priyya rises, lays a healing hand on herself and then blasts the area with Alita's healing light, Oh, I'm gonna have to atone for this... including Sorsha and the wasps, trying to heal ALL their allies.

With the enemy hopefully distracted, Alis holds back and casts a spell upon her self instead, disguising it within the lyrics of her song.

Alton backs up to get a running start and then charges the knight clearly hoping to push him backwards into the pit of water. Unfortunately, although all the priests have vanished, their robes yet remain and he slips depriving him of most of the power he attempted to muster. He impacts the knight's shield hard with a resounding *THUNK*. As he attempts to stagger back and get clear, the knight reciprocates. He slams Alton so hard with his shield that the big man goes flying into the door behind him nearly knocking it from its frame.

Lureene knows she is clearly outmatched here by this Dark Knight, but she is unwilling to yield the field completely. She sidesteps over Priyya and proceeds to run interference with the Dark Knight’s expected attacks.

Mal circles the fight, looking for an opening, when the dark warrior throws wide his shield to rebuff Alton, Mal strikes like a hunting cat, massive arms wrapping around the man to restrict his options.

Circle around and close to J-20, then grapple.

Eric: Remember, you need to be in a position to make a melee attack against the enemy you are aiding against. That means unless he is in J21/23, you won't be able to AA.

Mal leaps forward hoping to restrict the blackguard's options and grabs onto him. Unable to move but still quite capable of using his weapons one-handed, he makes his displeasure known.

First he attempts to skewer Mal on his sword but is unable to do so effectively with the equally large man grappling him. Undaunted, he raises his shield into the air and brings it down in an arcing swing that sends Mal flying backwards into Alton knocking both men to the ground as the door behind the sailor bursts inward.

Not wasting the opportunity for a follow-up attack, he rushes forward, and thrusts his sword into the soldier's side unleashing a burst of destructive force that seems to damage even himself.

Laith, what is the -4 penalty to Mal's AC against the 22 damage attack? Bull rush doesn't make you prone or give you any other conditions that I know of.

Ben: Regular bull rushes don't, however those initiated by the Shield Slam feat knock you prone if there is an obstacle in the way. In this case, Alton and the door.

Retcon: I misunderstood what Ben meant when he said he was circling. I thought he was coming around from the opening left when Alton got knocked back. I'll edit it when I get home in a few hours unless I can find a wifi hotspot in the meantime...


Using same rolls as before for the actions that would remain unchanged (i.e. those directed at Mal). Making new rolls for the actions that did not occur previously.

Mal shoulders his way past the women to come at the blackguard on the sword-side, hoping to restrict the man's options by grabbing onto him. Unable to move, but still quite capable of using his weapons one-handed, he makes his displeasure known.

Although the soldier makes a valiant effort to stay on his feet, between the collapsed tables on the floor and chairs strewn about, he is unable to keep his feet and hits the floor not.

Knowing an opportunity when he sees it, he rushes forward thru the opening created by Mal's flight placing him alongside the aging priestess. With a look of cold determination in his eyes, he thrusts thru her guard plunging at least two feet of adamant thru her chest, the icy grip of unbridled evil driving the life from her.

Her fiery aura fades as she slips into unconsciousness, perilously close to death's door.

Justin: No AoOs when you are moving as part of a bull rush if you have the feats.

Stifling a curse, Sorsha springs forward, hoping to hip-check the blackguard into the watery pit. Her attack could scarcely be more perfect, but even so, she pays a heavy cost taking a hard hit in her abdomen.

Unable to withstand the desperate rush, the heavily armored man plummets into the water below, sinking like a stone.

Holding her side, she gasps, "I have no idea if that will stop him or not. Can any of you heal your cleric friend? If he gets out of there, she's the only thing keeping us alive..."

With a mental command, she sends her wasps to hover over the water, ready to attack if the man somehow surfaces.

Scrambling to her feet, the younger red head pulls it out from a hiding spot in the base of her scabbard and pours it on the deep wound in Priyya's chest, closing the wound.

"Don't you die on us, Sarah!"

Alis takes in the situation, a pale gleam running along the length of her rapier. Seeing that things appear to be well-in-hand top-side and that she's likely the only one who can do anything about an underwater opponent, she finishes her song, takes a deep breath, and dives underwater like a kingfisher lancing the unsuspecting blackguard with her weapon!

"What the hell?" Eyes wide with disbelief, Aerys rushes to the edge of the pit. "Ellie, is your mom insane?!"

Looking around for anything that could be used to aid or harry someone trying to get out of the water, she points to the wall near Alton. "Devers, rip those oars down! If he tries climbing back up here, he's got another thing coming..."

She walks over the the edge of the pit, looking down anxiously at the bubbles rising up from below.


"Aye, aye, 'Rys." With seeming ease, the big sailor tears the oars free from the bolts securing them to the wall and delivers one to his lover.

Sparing a glance in Sarah's direction, he asks, "Will Sarah be alright, Sash'?"

Before waiting for an answer, he kicks the broken table with his foot and says, "We need better footing if we don't want to end up in the drink."

Hearing a loud voice just over her head, Priyya opens her eyes, groaning from the astral whiplash she just suffered.

Lureene stares at the pit where Alis disappeared to and responds acerbically, ”Yeah, that is totally insane of Momma!" She continues muttering to herself, "No wonder Daddy turned prematurely grey…he also had a spring in his step too when he left…

She hurriedly moves to the water pit edge M22 and peers into the murky depths, trying to see what happened between the two combatants. She calls to mind a spell...

She realizes something…and yells, ”Sash, the trapdoor behind the bar! We need to bar it again!”

Ready action to cast Grease on the ladder from the water pit should she see the Dark Knight climb up it, assuming there is a ladder or other way from there to the top of the pit..


If Priyya stands up where she is, she can't see the baddie or Alis, correct? So her channel wouldn't touch either of them correct?


Eric: There's not really any way to climb back up. The cultists were able to get back up because they helped each other back up. Same with the Khemyans.

Justin: Correct, Priyya has no visibility to Alis or the blackguard right now. She'd have to move to the side of the pit to have line of effect. Give her Perception and SM results, I'll say that she's figured out what has happened based upon taking stock of who's in the room, the relative quiet (save Gelik's fornications), the lack of singing, and the way others are looking into the water.

Seeing Sarah stir, Alton breathes a sigh of relief, "Thank the gods. I thought you were dead, Sarah!"

He casts a concerned glance towards the water, holding an oar as if ready to beat-down anything that might try and make it's way up from below.

This limp-d!c<ed, cock-sucking, horse-f#*%er is going to die right godsdamned NOW, if I have to escort his soul to hell myself!" Yet again she extends a healing hand to herself and the room.

Sasha winces a bit at Ellie's scathing remarks about her mother as she walks away. Upon mention of the trap door she says, "Oh, I can pull up the rope and lock it if you want, but didn't that dead guy in the red coat climb up something at the end of the pier while we were standing outside talking?"

Stepping over the broken chairs that Mal crashed into and pushing a round table aside, Lureene peers over the railing, her enhanced vision allowing her to see rather clearly what's going on in the dark waters below.

Lureene:
It looks like Alis is swimming about with relative ease while the blackguard is tripping over lobster traps, broken bottles, discarded netting, and other trash on the floor of the harbor. You can also see blood in the water and it doesn't look like it's coming from Alis either.

By the time Mal gets to his feet, Darkmane is already coming around and Alis is diving over the railing. Without hesitation, he launches himself over the railing, intending to help finish the knight off.


Ben: If you want to cast touch of the sea on yourself as your 4th 1st-level spell then go for it. Otherwise, swim checks will be necessary since Mal can't take 10.

The blackguard drops his shield and swings at Alis, both hands on the hilt as he tries to ward her off. However, the agile water child has no trouble at all evading the blow and counters with one of her own, but his armor negates the attack. When he sees someone else jump in, he starts plodding towards the pier, hoping to climb back out. Slowed down by his heavy armor, he is unable to walk more than about 10 feet.

Alis shakes her head and swims back to the surface for a breath of air then ahead of the man, above his path. She pauses for a moment to cast a spell and once again, her blade begins to glow with a pale light.
