The Exchange

I believe Carran and Scaramanga will bump heads on party trapspotting and general rogueness. Perhaps I could trade to Group B if Figwidget wouldn't mind being in Group A? That would add more diversity to Group A without taking any from Group B I think.

First off, thanks for doing this double GM, It's always nice to be accepted into a campaign.

I can see Uncle Taco's reasoning, especially because we both could disable magical traps and group B might have a shortage of a (magical) trap disarmer.

I'll be making my alias tonight after I get back.

What about ranged attacks? Should Black Bragi swap with Major Luke Rand?


looking at people's builds, I think we can classify people thusly:

melee:
tychi, rand, finnian

ranged weapon:
carran, black bragi

ranged spells/bombs:
scaramanga, figwidget, twylla

so I think we would want kinda the following:
1 melee, 1 ranged weapon, 1 spell/bomb character per group

that would leave 1 spell/bomber and one melee person per group.

while I would of course be more than happy to adventure with any of you, I think we might get more balanced groups if we do something like this:

group A: rand, carran, figwidget, tychi

group b: finnian, black bragi, twylla, scaramanga

that would split the alchemists, give group a a unicorn and fig's extracts for healing, as opposed to group b getting an oracle (assuming that twylla can heal).

as an exception to the above, I could definitely see switching either me and finnian, and/or carran and bragi. does anyone have questions about my thinking on this?


I'll be unsteady posting the rest of the week. My wife's grandmother died this morning. This is the widow of her grandfather who died on new years eve. Also, I have to travel for work Thursday and Friday. Yay 2014. :(


Sorry to hear that mdt...Family first.....we'll be here when you are back...in fact, I expect this week will be mostly taken up with set up, intros, some early RP, etc...and we will start in earnest on Monday.


I like the split that Vrog has proposed...any other views on it? Both groups have at least 1 healing, 1 melee and 1 ranged...plus the alchemists are in different groups.....


I can heal. More specifically, I'll probably be taking the "heal" spell, but ideally the group can pitch in to pick up some CLW wands for out of combat healing, as the heal is more clutch-healing.

Here's Carran's alias, I'm happy with the split Vrog has proposed, it seems to work.

Carran would be ranged and melee though, if close combat is engaged Carran will close in as well, so our group would have 3 melee characters at that point.

I'm good with any breakdown. FYI, I will need very little healing support as a tank because I will be more of a "not get hit" fighter as opposed to a "high hitpoint" fighter.

I'm in the same boat (more or less) as finnian...cause shield bashing is a thing. that being said, however, it's still good to have healing instead of wishing you had it when you eat a maximized, empowered fireball to the face. just sayin....

Could you please spend a little bit of time going through your sheets making sure that everything is set up and ready to go - I also find it very helpful if PC's have AC, Fort, Ref, Will, HP, Initiative and Perception in their profile header (I am not set on any particular format…it just helps if I don't have to dig too deep into your sheets for the basics).

The ‘Crunch’

  • All Paizo created classes other than Summoner, Ninja and Samurai are acceptable; all characters will begin at level 14 with a 15-point ability buy.
  • Maximum HP at Level 1 for your class (and average HP per level thereafter; 3.5 for d6, 4.5 for d8, etc...round up at level 12.
  • Core and Featured races from the Advanced Race Guide are acceptable (Uncommon and Custom races will not be considered).
  • Two traits maybe selected
  • Starting gold is 185,000 to be spent how you wish.
  • Non-evil alignments only.
  • All character options must originate from Paizo published Pathfinder products; No 3rd Party Materials.

Recruitment will be open for a while during which time I will try and answer any questions.

Which group am I joining? Just to get an idea of the group dynamic to make a character that would fit.


The two characters left are Tychi, the tengu monk (who is partnered with Nike, a unicorn), and Figwidget, a gnome alchemist. Figwidget is an Alkenstar native, and a tinkerer. He enjoys building things, not only alchemical, but also clockwork. This is what drew him into the exploration of what was going wrong with Alkenstar's clockwork guardians.


Yep, just for clarity - it's the 'Wardens of the Reborn Forge' thread rather than the 'Clockwork Protectors' thread (an alternative game I set up when the initial recruitment was oversubscribed)...

Just a question, will you be allowing called shots?


Called Shots sounds fun – I suspect I’d be a bit more hesitant in an IRL game as the extra complexity could slow things down – but for PbP, that’s fine.

Would it be reasonable to exchange the free gun that bolt ace still gets for proficiency in all Crossbows?


That seems to be a reasonably common solution to the perceived logic gap in the Bolt Ace - sounds good.

It's pretty much a single level fortress - quite a big exploration (not far off the size of Paizo's old 32 page module adventures) - the adventure will be totally constrained within the fortress - no wilderness exploration or anything like that...

This seems interesting. The setting and that it's a high level PbP, which is a rarity in itself. I have two questions: 1) You don't say anything about a background, what kind of fluff (if any) would you like to see? 2) I see a suspicious lack of healers, even considering Cr500cricket's submission (awesome name by the way). Would a healer like a cleric be welcome choice?

All - some amount of backstory (linking your character to Alkenstar) will be required - not a huge amount but enough to get a feel as to how to weave your character into the story...

CampinCarl - There is a limited amount of healing with Tychi's unicorn companion but I am sure additional healing would be welcomed by the group.

I'm going to get to the drawing board now. My idea is for a front line battle cleric. I'll keep you updated on my progress.


I know you said no evil alignments, but would you entertain the idea of a LN cleric of Zon-Kuthon? He would be somebody who takes the "necessary evil" route, doing dark things because somebody has to do them for the world to continue on.

Edit: I decided to make a cleric of Gorum instead. Such a great deity for battle clerics, and so fun to roleplay.
