GM Zed |
Just to clarify, this is the board for Group A from the recruitment thread....
Tychi - Tengu Monk 12 played by mdt
Major Luke Rand - Human Brawler 12 played by Vrog Skyreaver
Carran - Catfolk Ranger (Urban Ranger, Skirmisher) 10 / Fighter (Archer) 2 played by Rocan
Figwidget - Gnome Alchemist 12 played by rknop
Carran |
Checking in, hey guys.
Hope to have a good time playing together.
Tychi |
Hello, checking in as well. Just a note, I'm travelling for work today and tomorrow, so I'm going to likely be a bit hard to find post wise until this weekend.
Tychi |
I hope the GM is satisfied that Nike has a very noticeable personality? :)
Tychi |
Tychi may be a Tengu, and he may not be welcomed on first sight. :)
But by god he knows how to kick ass and chew bubblegum, especially when he's out of bubblegum! :)
Edit : Figgy seems to be quite capable in the butt kicking department too. :)
Tychi |
It's always the same thing.
Tychi warns the locals trouble is coming.
The locals call him nuts, or throw things at him.
Trouble comes.
The locals scream and panic.
Tychi kicks major butt.
The locals blink.
Tychi makes new friends.
The whispers return.
Tychi leaves.

actually, fig, bombs don't work that way. you have to either target the creature, in which case all the squares adj. to it take splash damage, or you target a square, in which case creatures in that square and all adj squares take your splash. anything that targets creatures targets the whole creature. the rules about picking a square work for things like being in combat and cover. obviously it's Zed's game, but it's more fyi than anything else.
You're mistaken on two points.
First, as to which squares are effected, at least under RAW, see page 202 of the Core Rulebook:
If the target is Large or larger, you choose one of its squares and the splash damage affects creatures within 5 feet of that square.
Second, the "precise bombs" discovery lets me omit squares from the splash damage.
GM: do you want these kinds of discussions here in the discussion thread, or interspersed in the gameplay thread? My guess would be here, which is why I've responded here rather than where the post was first made.
GM Zed |
All - Please follow rknop's example for posting rules / ruling queries in the discussion thread...I appreciate that all of your 'out of character' chat has been highlighted (distinguishing it from 'in character' talk) but...if the 'OOC' discussions get long winded then it dilutes the game thread.....much better to keep such chat here....thanks.
Secondly, I would interpret the throwing of a bomb at a 'larger than medium' character / monster rules exactly as Figwidget has.....just as well he can omit squares as there is quite a crowd around the construct (it is still round 1 and the children, shown as smaller blue circles, hadn't scattered yet)......
Finally, unfortunately the only person who will be able to edit the map will be me...so please state in your post which square you end up in....so that I can update map for round 2, etc. However, in this combat - thanks to Carran's impressive attack, there will be no second round!!!!!!
GM Zed |
I am happy to go with edit rights but my maps are JPG's...can people really be bothered to edit these? I would have thought it easier for you to just tell me where you are atvthecend of each round?
Plus...friendly reminder to all...discussion in discussion thread please...a 3 post debate about rules, whilst worth having, is a bit jarring when reading the gameplay thread!!!!
mdt |
What I do is make a JPG or GIF or PNG image, upload it, then insert smaller icon files that are movable. Here's an example. As you can see, all the character icon's are just smaller graphics that have been inserted in and are movable.
Tychi |
With all due respect to the GM, if it's a 10 ft burst explosion, either the explosion happened before Nike was within 10 ft (because per the description, it exploded from Carran's hit?) which means Nike would have still been standing over the injured boy, or else it took some time for the explosion to happen, which means Fig had time to yell a warning?
EDIT : It seems we were still on round 1, which means Tychi/Nike were still up by the downed boy, having just healed him. So not within 10 ft to take damage.
rknop |
true, but it's a common enough mistake that I see that I like to mention, so that people aren't surprised when someone else brings it up when it truly counts.
Luke -- please see my earlier message in this thread. You are the one who's mistaken about how alchemist bombs work.
Tychi |
Man, I wish I'd thought about that before the game began. Nike would make an excellent Paladin, from attitude to healing. Would have worked much better than a fighter. oh well...
Nike |
Well, most Paladin's are grumpy grouchy types, so that part works. :)
Went hospitaler, for more healing. She loses a couple of feats she wasn't using, and gained 7d6 healing per day plus a Smite Evil that REALLY hurts.
Tychi |
Unfortunately,
because we don't know him, neither Tychi nor Nike can vouch for Figwidget. If asked, they'd only be able to say that just before it went insane, Figwidget was messing with it. Which is likely what the boy said. Not exactly a ringing endorsement of his innocence.
GM? Are you using Golarion gods? I need to pick out one for Nike...
GM Zed |
....and so we arrive at the start of the adventure (as published!!!) - hopefully the encounter with the Brass Guardian and the interaction with the grumpy Shieldmarshals was more fun than 'you get a letter asking for help...'?
Any feedback so far? Happy with the mix of RP / Combat? Anything you want me to give you more or less of? For my part I have enjoyed all of your characters interactions and am looking forward to see what happens next...
Tychi |
Very good so far. :)
Question, did they lead us in via a path that Nike could accompany, or did she need to wait outside. It will affect how I post.
Tychi |
Absolutely Luke, just pointing out how fast she is.
Of course, if everyone else had dumped some coin into horseshoes for mounts, we could avoid flying. :)
Nike is kind of like Mr. T when it comes to her feet leaving the ground. :)
Nike |
Are we waiting on someone specific, or did real life rage lance pounce the GM?
GM Zed |
Was just waiting on everyone confirming that they were done asking Eliza any pertinent questions....
This is probably the last chance in a while for you to 'freestyle' so, if you want, you could write something about your night in Akenstar (quite happy for you to make places up...or head to Maggie's!!!!!)....and then wind up at Pilot's Square just before dawn....there will ony be one airship (run by the Aeromantic Fleet) prepped to leave so that should be your ride....
FYI, I consider weekend posting a bonus from yourself or myself....sometimes it'll happen and sometimes it won't....I have been very pleased with the rate of posting in the week though...the other group were slower to start and have only just defeated the Brass Guardian.....
Carran |
Right, so Carran could survive a fall from that height, good to know. Thanks GM.
GM Zed |
Ummmm....yes....ummmmm.......errrrrr??? So Luke's attack on Figwidget, while very impressive and all that....has sorta insta-killed the Gnome!!!! Looking through your sheets, skills and abilities, I don't think anyone has got any way of bringing him back to life?
So, what I am thinking is...this being the Mana Wastes and all, that I will hand wave a primal magic event and Figwidget will return to life at the end of the encounter....thoughts?
Carran |
Well actually if one of the enemies would move close to Luke, Figwidget wouldn't be hurt, but that's metagaming.
Unless we all get a round of actions before those landsharks go, in that case I need to post mine as well.
Returning him at end of combat would be nice though, a new manastorm returning his soul back to his body or something?
Tychi |
Unfortunately we never got actions, or Tychi/Nike would have pulled both Luke and Figwidget back into the shelter out of the storm. And if they'd obviously been addled, probably tied them down until they were obviously better.
But things all happened without our interaction, so my assumption was there was literally no way for us to interact to change things, or notice any addledness on the part of the allies.
As to bringing them back, rather than handwaving it, I'd personally make it part of the plot to do so. I'd much rather see us try to find a reincarnate scroll and UMD it or something.
GM Zed |
Yeah, my bad....I honestly thought 'confused' would be a perturbation to the start of the combat....not cold blooded murder!!!!! I was also mindful that, with the Will saves and all, things had slowed a bit posting wise......so pushed on.....
I would prefer to handwave Figwidget otherwise he may be out of the game for quite a while......
Tychi |
If you're going to handwave it, I'd instead have Luke kill one of the visions he was seeing, instead of Figwidget. That way Figwidget can still engage in the fight.
As to slow posting, was on the road for 3 days, so was hard to post.
EDIT : And I never posted that, sorry, I got all my games I thought, but missed this one somehow.
Tychi |
On a separate question, GM? Tychi spends 1 ki point, and gives Nike 24 temporary hp. I had planned on just reducing my Ki Pool by 2 points per day to cover her having them for 24 hours (each ki point spent last 12 hours). Is that acceptable? Rather than me having to post all the time?
Figwidget |
Yikes... I'm 9 posts behind on the Gameplay thread, but now I'm afraid to go read it....
However, there is a way to bring Figwidget back to life. It'll have him out of the action for a while. Figwidget has the Doppleganger Simulacrum discovery. On his inventory is two Doppleganger Simulacrums. What I wrote in the notes on the inventory page is "UM 15 ; stored in the Vault. Figwidget often lives in one of these, and stores his body in the vault."
I realize I didn't explicitly specify this for this game, so the GM would be reasonable in using the default assumption that Figwidget was in his normal body. However, it could be that Luke just killed one of Figwidget's simulacrums, and the gnome has just awaken in his real body back in his vault in his house in Alkenstar. He'll be pissed if the rest of the party divides up his stuff... and there's the problem of getting him back out there. But it's a way built-in to the character to keep him alive. (He'll just be out the 1000gp and time it takes to build a new simulacrum. Since he has a second, he still has one "extra life".)
Tychi |
I like that better than handwaving. And given the simulacra would explode into bits of gears, I see no reason why Tychi/Nike would allow anyone to loot it. Heck, even if it was really Figwidget, they'd insist on returning the body and equipment back to his nearest living relative.
And I'm sure the client would arrange to have Figwidget's 2nd simulacra dropped off within a day...
GM Zed |
We can go with the Simulcrum story then...Figwidget, can you post a few updates that get you 'revived' back at Alkenstar, caught up with the Brass Guild (if you need them), passage to the Kargatt hills....
How should we reunite Figwidget with the rest of the party? Does everyone else want to start exploring the mines or wait for Fig v2.0 to turn up?
Tychi |
Tychi has decided that being within range of a Sohei, with Improved Critical, and an 18-20 weapon who also has Power Attack is not a thing to be desired. Yowch.
