Sorry about the delay, been busier than I'd anticipated. Should be updated tomorrow. Hopefully fairly early.
No problem I understand just wanted for all to check in to be sure how many we are ^^ and it seems I got the minimum 4 xD still need to dmnpc O.o this will be tough. My first campaign online also.
Backgrounds are fine so far I'm not so anal about a good background in a playtest but I don't like crappy ones either so you guys are fin last check before starting game thread tonight or tomorrow afternoon if I have no problems and random crap at work.
Oh I was just changing some wording and clarifying a couple parts. I hate seeing little issues or errors I could easily correct. Believe I'm done now in any case and barring any further issues I notice, he's pretty much finalized. May see about spending a bit more gold now that we have an ox to carry more supplies.
On further reflection, I think I like the glaive-guisarme.
Possibly the most inconveniently named polearm ever.
Maybe I'll just end up calling it a lance. If Kimahri Ronso can get away with it, surely I can too.
I think the only thing I still need to work out is encumbrance, which I tend to not care too much about. How diligently should we be tracking weight?
I only ask because "tough" usually corresponds with "realistic." Which tends to drive me up the wall. Not to be negative, of course! I'm still down to play.
Hah, that's why Zerig bought the ox I think. ;) We split it so I grabbed the tent and stuff like that, he grabbed the ox and the feed. Worked out pretty well.
Might be worth grabbing another honestly, this stuff gets stupidly heavy. I would have bought a masterwork backpack if I could have swung it but that 50 gold is pretty brutal (though worth it for the increased encumberance).

...Maybe I should just stop talking for now. :P
Will come in handy when you are climbing... er... doing dangerous things ere encumbrance might kill you. Yes add the penalties to your skills for encumbrance and such also as a parenthesis with the negative not in the normal total so we know what to subtract when used with armor/carrying stuff.

I'll learn ant Haul, spiderclimb, and other utility spells on the magus list, then expand my spell pool and cast them a lot. i spend gold and points. In so saving you calculations.
In actually creating my first character this way, it absolutely floors me how brutal the rules on encumburance and strength are. Even with a well above average score of 15 a breastplate takes up nearly half of my allocation. Toss in the shield and weapon...and it gets way worse.
Am I missing some secret or is anyone that tries to adventure basically need a pack animal to carry stuff around (ex. rations, tent, supplies, etc)? Or do they just put up with a constant medium (or heavy) encumburance?
It could be that a lot of non-essential stuff could be left at the inn or other base of operations. If the party knows their travel time and towns along the route, camping may not even come up.
I just need to nut up and stop whining. I'm probably fine, right? I mean, 18 Strength has to be good for something.
Usually it's medium encumbrance when traveling but when "combat" ensues player drop their backpacks and just use their gears leaving their other stuff behind for the fight or only carry the essential things when going into a dungeon.
Ok! After a horrible hang over from my b-day I actually just woke up, seems we are ready to roll unless there are some more questions this is the time to ask them.
Took a shot at the first post. Not a lot there to work with but assumed we were together traveling. Feel free to correct me if not.
I noticed it doesn't actually say our characters are part of the campaign yet and not sure how to apply or if the DM has to do it. Also doesn't say in my own bio that I am part of this campaign either, so I suspect it is something the DM has to do?
I think for ease of play and flow of story we should assume to be travelign together or part of the same contingent. I'll hold on my post till we know there is consensus.
All skills (except Use Magic Device) count as having a natural 10 for certain purposes.
For example a Perception check in this case is DC 15 (yes I should not reveal it but it's not that big of a deal), Deylons natural Perception is 11 and Alaire natural perception is 13. So anything that is DC 13 or less Alaire would notice it without an effort like a failed hide attempt that only got 12 or a 13 in his check or other noises.
Example 2:
Climbing a wall DC 15
Deylon would have no problems, of course he wont be the fastest climber he has 15 in his climb as a passive so if he wants to hurry he would have to roll the dice and risk falling or getting there faster. While Alire would have an 8 passive since he has encumbrance and would have to roll.
This is just to avoid unnecesary dice rolls as I like to think that if someone has a 10 in a skill they shouldn't have to roll for a DC 15 or 20 since they can take it.
The passive does not apply in combat, you must roll it.
Another thing I don't roll is initiative it's just a 10+ whatever your normal initiative is, so this at least guarantees fast players or players that want to invest in initiative are rewarded, because let's face it most of the time having high initiative doesn't mean anything in this game since anyone can roll higher than you and have better initiative.
Well I would like to see a bit more life in the campaign, then again I suppose you all have important things to do in real life ^^ so I'm waiting on what you guys are about to do.
Go ahead and DMPC me for a bit or NPC me. I had to do some training, and my job is sending me overseas for a while. I'll let you know when I have net access again.
