I saw a deficit in the group with Knowledge skills and nonlethal options. Nilan will bring both of those to the table, as well as Healing in both the form of his Doctor Bag and his "Electro-Static Scanner"

Can I just say that I love your choice of delusion? It seems extremely cool for a mad scientist focused on medicine.

Thanks. It seemed like an appropriate minor delusion.

Alright, so we've experienced our first fallen comrade. I would be remiss if I didn't take the opportunity to invite everyone to press F to pay respects. [F]

...That said, I should note specifically how we're doing things when this happens, since I don't think I actually mentioned it before this point. Whenever a PC dies during the 1919 campaign, the player is encouraged to bring in their replacement as soon as possible, potentially acting as them as early as the very next round of combat. Just draft up the soldier as soon as you can and pop in Discussion to let me know you're ready. Assuming there aren't any gross issues, you're good to go!

(In terms of equipment, I can post what you have each time you make a new character, but they're fairly generic so I'll just try and get up a sketch of each of them in the Campaign Info tab. I'll also include notes on how many soldiers are alive and available, and a tribute to the fallen in another spoiler.)

Soonest I can get my next piece of meat to throw in the grinder is... an hour? Got everything figured out, concept, skills and stuff.

Everything but a tiny bit detail I'd like to ask about: would it be possible to request a piece of equipment, namely either a claymore or a basket-hilted scottish sword?

Thing is I thought I could bring a Trench Gunner to the group, one based in one of my favourites Recent History figures: Mad Jack Churchill

Preliminary idea is for the new soldier to be a Scottish chap, upstanding and hearty fellow indeed. Onr that favours close encounters, be it with shotgun or sword, and the glory of defeating your enemy from cutting distance if possible.

Hmm... At the risk of making the character particularly odd, I'll allow him to have something of that nature in place of the primary gun he'd normally have as a trench gunner (a shotgun or SMG depending on nationality). Of course, actually using the sword is going to be dangerous at best, considering most people have guns.

Emissary here, renamed Little Harry's profile so it can suit the next poor men that come after him.

In the end I decided against the Mad Jack idea, both because I like him too much to let him bleed to death in the trenches and because Inspiration stroke me.

So dive inside the profile to meet Old Sasha, Russian cossack enlisted with the American Army, now killing germans once again in Europe.

I think I hadn't missed anything, onky thing left would be Trench Gunner's gear.

Hey all! I felt I owed you guys a quick note on what's going on since I haven't updated recently. I'm in my final week of classes as an undergraduate, and it's at least as busy as that phrase suggests. I've got projects due, papers to write, tests to take, and a decent chunk of a novel to write and revise and polish up. Add in extracurricular stuff--two shows over the course of last weekend--and going over essays for the students I'm TAing for... and I'm a little pressed for time.

I'm not abandoning these games by any means, but I don't know how well I'll be able to post for the next week or so (until finals are over and everything's turned in). My hope is to have time to post on this Thursday at least, and perhaps over this weekend, but I can't guarantee anything. So please bear with me for a little while, and we'll get things going again as soon as I can!

Sean, you've got an ace to re-roll on your Wild die.

But I can't get higher than a 6 on a roll right? And I hit on a 4? Should I still re-roll my wild?

Human (Native American) Soldier | Wounds: 1/3 | Bennies: 2/3 | Grit: 1 | Parry: 5 | Reason: 6 | Toughness: 6

You can still roll a raise (4 above the target, so in this case 8) on attack rolls. And a raise on a Shooting roll adds an extra 1d6 damage.

Ahhh okay. I'll do that now.

Male Human Soldier
Spoiler:
Wounds: 0/3 | Bennies: 3/3 | Parry: 4 | Charisma: -2 | Toughness: 9 | Pace: 6 | Power Points: 9/10

Just as a head's up, you don't take a -2 on the additional when you roll on an exploding die. You only take the penalty once. That still leaves you one short of a raise, but it's good to know for the future. They continue to add up although for things like attack rolls there's no mechanical benefit to raising more than once. However, contested rolls such as Persuasion may have a target number higher than 4 so getting as high a roll as possible is useful.

And with that post I realized I never actually gave Alexander his equipment! My apologies.

Alexander's Gear:
Winchester Model 1912 pump-action shotgun (Range 12/24/48, Damage 1-3d6, RoF 1, Capacity 6, Shotgun) and 42 shells (12-gauge);
Mauser C96 automatic pistol (Range 15/30/60, Damage 2d6, RoF 1, Capacity 10, AP 1, Semi-Auto) and 30 rounds (7.63mm, in stripper clips) OR
Nagant M1895 revolver (Range 12/24/48, Damage 2d6+1, RoF 1, Capacity 7, AP 1, Revolver) and 28 rounds (7.62mm);
Shashka saber (Str+d8) (to make up for your sword idea);
Hand Grenades (Range 5/10/20, MBT), 2;
Uniform (with holsters and pouches), steel pot helmet, trench shovel, and mundane gear.

As I said previously, I'll try and get a rough sketch of each of the equipment packages in the Campaign Info tab soonish.

Hey all, just posting in to let you know that I probably won't be updating things until Sunday evening or Monday morning (EST). My great-grandmother passed away a couple days ago, and some family I haven't seen in a while is visiting, so I don't expect to have the opportunity to post. Sorry for the delay, and thanks for your understanding.

Human (Native American) Soldier | Wounds: 1/3 | Bennies: 2/3 | Grit: 1 | Parry: 5 | Reason: 6 | Toughness: 6

No need to be sorry. You just lost someone. I hope things are okay with your family.

Answering in discussion so I don't fill the gameplay thread with too much rules discussion.

Okay, so Sean became Shaken, then took a Wound from a second shot. The Wound inflicted a condition that lowers his Agility die by one size, but will go away once his wound is treated, so that's not a big deal right now.

There are a couple of options here. First, you can decide to Soak. This means spending a Benny, which does not replenish due to the special house rule for our soldier characters so need to be spent carefully. You then roll Vigor and every success reduces the wounds received by one. Sean would need to roll a 4 on a d4 or his wild die in order to succeed, including the wound penalty I believe. If the wound is soaked, it also removes the Shaken automatically, and it removes the injury.

If you want to save your bennies, your next option is to simply roll to unshake. This is a Spirit roll, including the wound penalties (so a -1). If he succeeds, he can act as normal, though he still takes the wound penalty until his injury is treated. If he fails, he can spend a benny to remove the Shaken condition anyway, but that still costs a benny so be careful.

If you decide not to spend a benny and fail the Spirit check, your actions are very limited. I think all you're capable of doing is moving unless you unshake, but I might be misremembering. You definitely can't attack or use powers while shaken though, and you're more vulnerable to wounds.

Male Human Soldier
Spoiler:
Wounds: 0/3 | Bennies: 3/3 | Parry: 4 | Charisma: -2 | Toughness: 9 | Pace: 6 | Power Points: 9/10

You don't take a wound penalty from wounds you're trying to soak. If you had already taken a Wound and now have a -1 you take that penalty to soak further wounds, but you wouldn't have a penalty when trying to soak the original Wound.

My deepest apologies for the delays; between being busy IRL and the site having troubles, I haven't been able to post for the last few days. That said, I should have more reliable access and enough time to post in the next couple days, so hopefully I'll get things going again as early as this evening!

Hey, We are having some weather related issues here (I have satellite internet so...) and I'm taking my family on a mini vacation from Thursday-Sunday. The Hotel should have WiFi so I'll try to post daily, but if I don't you know why. If this is a game I'm GMing, I'll be back on Monday for sure. If this is a game I'm playing feel free to bot away.

Sorry for falling behind again so quickly--work is neverending, and as soon as it seems like one thing's finished another pops up. Updates tomorrow, hopefully.

As far as noting the mortar team, though, they're just setting up--at least a round or two before they can fire.

Hey all, posting in to let you know that I'm going to a summer camp with my family for a few days, starting tomorrow. I won't have Internet access or my laptop with me, so I don't expect to be posting at all while I'm there, but it's only a few days--tomorrow afternoon through Friday afternoon. Feel free to take the time to RP, discuss things out of character, or anything else you like--I should be back and updating things Friday evening or Saturday morning to keep things moving as soon as I can.

And with that in mind, now that I think of it, we'll handwave the actual initiative draws here. The whole party is up, including Niles if you get a character together while I'm away--just insert yourself wherever and post away!

(Also just realized I forgot to include in my post summing up the general unit's actions last round--Aaron, you did get a medic with some morphine over, so you're taking 1 less Wound penalty.)

Alright, everyone, I'm back from my trip and here for the week--I'll be away this coming weekend on a paintball trip, but until then I should be able to post fairly regularly (and I'll be back again after that). However, I am going to give this a day to wait before moving forward, because I'd rather not bot Sean twice in a row if need be. I'm not sure what happened to DarkestHeart, they may just not be seeing the game what with the issues the boards had for a while; I've sent a PM, so I'll wait a day for a response before moving on.

EDIT: Also, I forgot my own decision that I posted before leaving--the whole party is up, which means everyone but Aaron and Dances can take their turn. Are folks still around?

Hey everyone, I want to give yet another deep apology for my extended absence from the site. It started with a somewhat impromptu trip last week (my younger brother is looking at colleges) that left me with much less time and wifi access than I'd expected. I had really hoped to post regularly leading up to the weekend, but it didn't happen. Then this weekend was the expected absence from a paintball event, but I'd meant to start posting again as soon as possible after returning from that.

This week, I don't know that there's a tangible reason for my not updating so far, and I know that's really sh*tty but I'd rather be honest than come up with some other excuse. I don't know if it's just that I've been working on other stuff, or that I haven't had the mental energy, or what exactly, but I just couldn't get on here to update things. That's a really crappy place to be regardless, but it's definitely a bad place to be as someone running a game for other people (or playing in them).

In any case, it's come to a close, whatever it was, and I want to get stuff moving again as best as I can. I'm going to try and update everything intermittently throughout today, and tomorrow if I don't get to it all, so look for updates. If all the absences have killed the flow or your mood for the game, I fully understand, so just let me know, but I am really hopeful to be a better GM in terms of posting frequency. Thanks.

To Blanc: No worries, I understand completely. I'm still down to play.

As terrible as the timing on this is, I'm going to be camping out at at a festival through Tuesday morning. I can tether from my phone and I have my little baby laptop with me so hopefully I can continue to update, but it may be a little scarce.

Just letting you all know that I'm leaving for a camping trip for a couple of days with my family--I know, it's another short-notice absence, but it is what it is. My apologies, but if it's any consolation I may be able to post on this one. I'm not sure exactly what the situation at the campground will be, some have wi-fi these days and some don't, but if I get the opportunity I may even use my phone to get a hotspot and check in if I can. In any case, I'll be back on Wednesday, and I'll update as soon as I can. Thanks!

I also figure that now is as good a time as any to ask about recruiting new players. It seems we've lost a couple, so I want to put it to you guys: do we want to bring in one or two new players, or stick with our group of four? I'm fine either way.

Human (Native American) Soldier | Wounds: 1/3 | Bennies: 2/3 | Grit: 1 | Parry: 5 | Reason: 6 | Toughness: 6

I'm okay with either honestly.

Male Human Soldier
Spoiler:
Wounds: 0/3 | Bennies: 3/3 | Parry: 4 | Charisma: -2 | Toughness: 9 | Pace: 6 | Power Points: 9/10

I think I would prefer to recruit some new people, honestly. My main reasoning is that we've lost our party doctor for the Rippers game; not only does that mean we can't heal, but we also lose our access to Rippertech. At least one person who might be able to fill in for that would be nice, but if you find more than that who you like as characters I'd be fine with getting back up to 6.

Maybe ask around other SW games before going into an open recruitment? That may be easier when looking for a brand new person.

On one hand, less people means more baddies to gut with claw and saber respectively... on the other hand I'd rather not die.

Bring on more cannon fodder!

Also seconding the SW checking, could prove faster and useful than usual recruitment.

I'm still here...

Oh! My apologies, Niles. You hadn't posted in a while, and I know the game had been going slowly for some time, so I thought you'd left us. My bad, and no problem. I'm glad to know you're still with us!

So with five people, including our good doctor, I think we're probably set for now. I'll try and get us moving again soon--we've started to have some family coming in for a reunion that's happening in a few days, so things have gotten a bit busier for me. And I think someone moved the notebook with my plans for this game...

Yeah, I'm keeping up. I just figured that the fight was ending so didn't mess around and make a new Soldier. (TBH, I'm mostly interested in the Ripper side of the campaign anyways)

Following this round of belated updates--this week had some craziness, including my phone breaking--I'm letting you all know that I'm going on another trip, starting later today. This is very short-notice, I know, but I didn't know I was going until last night myself. My younger brother is still looking at colleges, but this trip also brings us near my older half-brother who I only get to see once in a great while. (Incidentally, he's the person who got me into RPGs in the first place.) His schedule happens to be open for one of the days of the trip, so I'm going along to get to see him.

Like I said, we're leaving later today, and I'll be back on this coming Tuesday. We're staying in hotels the whole time, so I SHOULD have wi-fi and time to post, but in case I don't, that's the reason why.

I think that wad the final agreement, but because you mentioned "five souls" in the Maltese Agency and I can't remember how many we were I am not sure.

Also wanted to say that I am truly excited to explore the Ripper side of our story!

Yeah, I believe we had everyone as part of the Rippers (or at least the detective agency) at game start. By my count we have five players now, so five characters of note in the office!

Also, my apologies for another delay--my Internet's been in and out all week, which has prevented me from posting or even checking in. It's better right now, and hopefully stays that way for a bit.

Bad news guys. Our Marshal's having some computer troubles and his laptop isn't working at all right now. Hopefully he'll be able to work something out, but it looks like he's going to be off the boards for a little while.

So, our GM's computer is out of commission. He's looking for ways to post other than his laptop, but if they don't pan out he's going to be MIA for a bit as he doesn't have the means to fix the laptop right now. Hopefully he'll be back soon, but he wanted people to know where he's gone if he disappears.

And here's your Marshal back again! It was likely a false flag, just a crash of my laptop, but I've had bad luck in the past so I wanted to make sure you guys were aware in case of a worst case scenario. As is I should be okay, but if I go dark bear the trouble in mind. Also hoping to update today--I've had Internet issues until now, which is why this week's been quiet.

Hey guys, this is a blanket notice going out to all of my games here on the boards. While I am thankfully outside the path of Hurricane Harvey, current projections for Hurricane Irma are sending it barreling up the coast of Florida to sweep much of the eastern coast of the United States. As I live directly on the ocean, I'm already gearing up for a potential evacuation at the moment. While hopefully all I get is a lot of rainfall, it's likely that by the time Irma hits Maryland it will still be at least a Category 3 storm, if not worse. I will have my laptop and such in the case of an evacuation, but I likely won't be able to post with any real schedule or frequency. Moreover, given that I live more or less directly on the ocean, it's more likely than not that if I'm forced to evacuate there will not be a home for me to come back to after the storm passes. The island is not built to withstand that kind of storm, and the last time something anywhere near that deadly swept through, it made an inlet where there used to be a road. My point being, if I'm hit by the hurricane it's very likely I will be off the boards for a long while, or at least my posting will be sparse and intermittent.

I'm sure I'm not the only one following the storm on the news, but I'll do my best to keep everyone updated on my status. It's likely the storm, if it hits me at all, will make landfall here early next week. If you see on the news that the storm has hit Maryland and you don't hear from me, that's probably why. I just wanted to put this message up now as I'm prone to losing power during storms and I didn't want to leave anyone hanging.

Thanks for understanding,
Jon

Just want to let you all know in case you've noticed or are wondering: I've updated the other games I'm running on here, but haven't gotten to this one yet. Not to worry, because I certainly will get us moving again as soon as I can! And I'm looking forward to it. My absence and delays and all have happened for a variety of reasons, including starting work at a new job--which has added a hectic element to my life the last couple weeks, especially with training that's been draining on a few levels.

That said, I'm feeling much better now, and should be good for more regular and more frequent posting for at least a while into the foreseeable future. (That said, it's a retail job, so the holiday season may get crazy depending on things.) I'll definitely be updating this when I can, but one of the other updates I just did tonight took longer than I'd expected, and I'm feeling pretty tired and unfocused at the moment. I'm hoping I'll get this going again tomorrow, but if not it'll certainly be Thursday!

As far as I am concerned you can take as much time as you need.

I just started a new grade recently, so I can understand the hectic element.

And I gues that instead of congratulations I will have to say good luck, because I've worked retail during Christmas and Sales seasons and you may end needing it. May the patience be with you.
