Forget the "doors" comment. Many of the doors are locked, those that aren't are closets, cleaning supplies, etc. I'll factor in the look-and-see to how fast you progress.

Male Human

Whispering intently - "Hey guys - did you ever stop to think that SHE WORKED HERE???"

Female Human Adventurer

"I would have thought of that.. eventually."

To the girl

"OK how about you show us wherre we need to go?"

Somewhat snippily, Karen shoots back "Sorry, that's on a 'need to know basis'. Besides, how should I know where you need to go, you *still* haven't told me what the f*ck you're doing here!!! But I'd be glad to tell you where *I* think you should go..." she ends syrupy-sweetly.

Female Human Adventurer

Whispering to Karen,

Listen, Sweety, there is obviously something sinister going on around here. You may be part of it or you may be a victim of it, so forgive us if we're a bit tight lipped about why were here.

So, what was it that you did for these clowns? And why do you think they want to kill you?"

Waiting for answers, then...

"Ok, so where is it you think we should go, presuming you don't mean back out the door we came in?

What is it you think is going on here?"

Karen looks at you, a mixture of confusion and exasperation on her face. "I didn't *do* anything! I'm an executive secretary, and this morning a couple of goons got in the elevator with me when I went to go for lunch, and brought me down to this basement and roughed me up, demanding to know how much I knew. And, how on earth should I know where you should go, when you still haven't told me what it is *you're* looking for! I'm getting fed up with the lot of you!"

Female Human Adventurer

Looking at Nate, and giving a wink where Karen doesn't see it..
"You know, Nate, if they check on her and she is gone there gonna know somebody is here, maybe we should just put her back, tie her up and gag her and move on without her, she doesn't seem to to have anything usefull to tell us and she will just slow us down."

Looking at Karen "Unless you have something helpful to say, like maybe the layout of this place."

Bennies: 3/3 | Wounds: 0

Nate looks at John and rolls his eyes. "Women,"" he says simply.

"Though I give you credit," he grinningly says to the girl, "at least you admit that as an 'executive secretary' you don't do anything. Most insist they actually perform useful work."

To Astaria he says, "I think taking her back and tying her up and especially gagging her is an excellent idea." He finishes with a meaningful look at the girl.

With surprise and indignation she says "Oh! Well, then, since you still haven't told me what you're looking for, good luck finding it - I'll take my chances on my own, thank you very much!" as she turns and walks away.

Female Human Adventurer

"Leaving is no longer a choice, sister. Either you help us or you go back to the place we found you, and the way we found you. Nate, do let her go!"

Bennies: 3/3 | Wounds: 0

Nate isn't holding her and has already pointed the way out. Good riddance, as far as he's concerned.

-Posted with Wayfinder

I think maybe Astaria meant "DON'T" let her go...

Female Human Adventurer

Zoiks, thats right. Type. DON'T let her go.

Male Human

"Hey! Everyone calm down!" Looking at Nate and Astaria, John continues "Do you guys realize that you're asking her where we should go, when you haven't told her what we want?!???"

Turning to Karen, "Sorry lady, my...companions can get a little lost in their work sometimes. If we tell you what we're looking for, would you take us there, or at least give us directions?"

Looking back at Nate and Astaria, as if to prompt them...

Bennies: 3/3 | Wounds: 0

Nate shakes his head at Astaria, then turns and jabs his finger into John's chest. "First of all, Shorty, keep your voice down. Second of all, I'm already calm. Third of all, don't accuse me of things I never did, alright?"

His piece said, Nate turns and strides ten feet further down the hallway.

Nate never, ever said anything about Karen showing (or telling) us where to go. In fact he's repeatedly suggested she either leave, or they tie her up again. He sees having Karen along as a liability, not an asset. But if you want to stop her, by all means go ahead.

Astaria, what's your reaction to John's statement?

Female Human Adventurer

"OK, as you wish"
Following Nate down the hall.

All - please see discussion.

Female Human Adventurer

Astaria turns to Karen

"Look, Sweety, ignore the G.I. Joe over there. We're paranormal investigators. There is something strange going on here. We could really use your help. You know the layout of this place right? So, you can help us get to where we need to go, and at this point we're not sure where that is. If you could tell us of any unusual stuff you may have seen or heard, that would be of great help. What was the last thing that happened before you were "captured". Did you see something or hear something that would spook you boss? Have you noticed anything unusual?

Do you know where we are in this facility? Were you aware of this "basement " or is this a place that was off the map, so to speak."

Karen stops, with a variety of expressions crossing her face. Finally she speaks :

"Hmph. Well. That's more like it, I guess. I can't tell you anything more than I told those brutes, I didn't see anything. That I know of.

But I think I can take you to the elevator that brought us down here.

So tell me, what is it you're looking for?"

Female Human Adventurer

"As I said, were paranormal investigators, we know something is going on here, but we don't know exactly what we're looking for until we find it. It would be something "unusual" to a mundane persons point of view.

Have there been any "unusual" people come through here recently, has anyone acted strangely, have you seen anything that made you say "Hmmmm"?

These brutes, did they work here or did they just show up and bind and gag you and leave you down here? Tell me the details of how you were captured, what were you doing, where were you, what were you working on etc...?

You said you know the way to the elevator, please direct G.I. Joe there if you would be so kind. Oh, and ignore any rude comments he gives you, it's just his nature."

"Lady, my whole *day* has been 'unusual'. I was just processing the usual stack of papers and emails at my desk when I was grabbed.

Here, it's this way to the elevators, I think". And she leads you all down the halls, slowly and quietly.

Bennies: 3/3 | Wounds: 0

Nate mutters something unintelligible as the girl moves past him, then falls in behind the others.

"We should take the stairs," Nate says to John quietly. "An elevator's a death trap dangling in a shaft of doom. Plus they usually have surveillance cameras. Enemy territory like this, it's way too easy for them to shut the lift down between floors and bam, they've got us. We should take the stairs. Definitely the stairs."

Uh oh, gonna miss Wapner...

"Well...ok, but I'm not sure exactly where they are. Hope you're in good shape pops, I work on the 24th floor, and I don't know how far down below ground level we are."

Female Human Adventurer

"I'll try the elevator. If I make it I'll let you know."

Male Human

"I don't care which way we go, but the one thing we should definitely not do is split up. So - elevator or stairs?"

Female Human Adventurer

"Ah Sh!t, Stairs, Lets go!"

After about 10 minutes (with a few short rest stops), you finally reach the 24th floor. Karen takes you to her desk, and tries to log in. "Looks like we're in luck, IT hasn't erased me yet!"

Female Human Adventurer

"OK now were getting somewhere. Look around the files and see if anything looks out of place, I hate to say unusual, I've overused that word enough for one day. Where is the bosses office?".

Searching her office while she searches the computer. Then moving on to the bosses office.

Bennies: 3/3 | Wounds: 0

Nate frowns. "Wait a minute. Why would IT 'erase you?' Didn't you say you were just doing your job and some goons grabbed you?"

Nate subtly moves to a position behind her chair where she can't see him.

Maybe just an unexpected turn of phrase, but it sounded suspicious. Nate has his weapon trained on her behind her back, just in case.

In a *very* exasperated tone, Karen says "Well for heaven's sake! I didn't think I was going to get out of that basement alive, so I kind of figured I'd been 'fired' - wouldn't you???"

Notice: 1d6 ⇒ 4 -2(back turned) = 2

You should be glad she didn't notice the gun...

Female Human Adventurer

Not sure if you saw it, but Astaria is searching the room.
Smarts, Wild: 1d6 ⇒ 61d6 ⇒ 5
Smarts Ace: 1d6 ⇒ 1
Search / Smarts = 7

If there is anything to find she problably found it.

Sorry, just noticed this (no pun intended), but searching is done with the Investigation skill (house rule). Just paying attention to things in plain sight is one thing, but knowing how and where to look for hidden things is another.

Also, why were you rolling Smarts? You roll the die value for the Skill itself...

Karen points with her thumb over her shoulder to her bosses' office, while she looks at things on her computer. "Let's see, I looked at this file today...nope...this file...nope..."

Female Human Adventurer

Oh Ok then. What should I roll.
After searching the room. Astaria will head to the bosses office and begin another search

Bennies: 3/3 | Wounds: 0

Yay, O/T has ended and I'm digging myself out from beneath the backlog! It's great to be back!

Good heavens GM, Nate didn't spread his feet and sight the gun in both hands at arms length as if he were about to yell, "Freeze, punk!" He already had his sidearm out and in his hand, all he did was step behind her and point it at her "casually" so he could get a snap shot off if she made a sudden bad move. Hardly anything to notice in that.

"Lady, if that's how they fire people, I'm glad I don't work here. Find anything?" he asks the others.

Let's say he's watching the screen over her shoulder as well. He's not a computer guy but if she does something obviously suspicious he should spot it.

Notice & Wild: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 81d6 ⇒ 1
Boom!: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4+8=12, 2 Raises

-Posted with Wayfinder

Sorry for the long delay.
For searching, roll Investigation if you have it, otherwise d4-2 if you don't.

John doesn't have it, but what the heck...
'Searching': 1d4 - 2 ⇒ (2) - 2 = 0
Oh well.

"Nothing so far. How are we supposed to know when we've found 'it'???"

Female Human Adventurer

I used Notice last time I was looking for stuff, so I'll do it again. Not sure what + the trinket gives, looked back but didn't see the numbers.

Astaria will wander around searching, noticing anything in her office and the bosses office.

Notice,Wild: 1d8 ⇒ 71d6 ⇒ 2

Notice is a 7 + ? for trinket.

Ok, as long as you realize this will just find stuff in plain sight.
I think the trinket was +2 to Notice.

Nate, she's just looking at files as far as you can tell.

Female Human Adventurer

If I had known that house rule, I would have taken the search skill

Astaria, please let's take this over to Discussion where it belongs...

Female Human Adventurer

While Karen searches the computer, Astaria will "Search" the bosses office.

Investigate, Wild: 1d4 ⇒ 41d6 ⇒ 2
Inv. Ace: 1d4 ⇒ 2

Search is a 6.
