Very sorry for my absence, but the house has been a freezing and dusty nightmare for the last few weeks. The builders have been very slow in getting things done and the trying to live a normal life under these circumstances has been nigh on impossible. At last the roofing in almost complete, as said most walls are down, but we are waiting for the weather to improve enough to have the rendering at the front done, before we can get the front of the house watertight. It goes rendering, balcony then windows and doors.
At the back of the house we are running the kitchen out of boxes as we wait from the kitchen room to complete its build and the kitchen installed. We have no work surfaces except for the top of the fridge and cooker. Hopefully we will have a kitchen installed by the end of February, the floor is down, just waiting for the water from the mains to be connected to the new pipework, which is being dug out now. 1st fit electrics done, now for plasterboards and plastering to be done, including the ceiling etc.
So life has been a bit rough, (not to mention my wife's car was written off when the wind blew my son's motorbike into it, looking to get another car very quickly).
It meant I stopped posting in all games and haven't been on the Paizo boards at all.
We are coming out the other end.
If you are still wanting me to continue in the game, I can start posting more regularly after the weekend.

If this monster is what I think it is, we've got a tough fight ahead.
Still, it should be about 28 down.
Lym Blackhand |
Nice damage output on that Scorching Ray...! Unfortunately, we are approaching the end of my offensive spells. I still have a Burning Hands and two Magic Missiles left. After that, my only damage option is Black Tentacles and Force Missiles...
Lym Blackhand |
I don't think they do. :-\ If Rhianni can get out of there somehow this round, I can set off the spell next round.
Lym Blackhand |
The black tentacles have probably failed to grab hold. >_< On the upside, they should make it very clear what's an illusion and what is real.

The first item is the longspear, sized for a large humanoid. It's a special magic item with ties to ancient Thassilon known as an Impaler of Thorns. It's a +1 weapon that, once per day, as it strikes a foe, can be activated as a free action to cause a 30-ft-radius burst of despair that affects anyone not wielding an Impaler of Thorns. All creatures affected must succeed a DC 16 Will save or become overwhelmed with sadness and despair, taking -2 penalties on attack rolls, saving throws, ability checks, skill checks, and weapon damage rolls for 6 minutes. The target struck when this effect is triggered must also succeed at a second DC 16 Will save to resist becoming nauseated with despair for 1 round.
The second item is a Medusa Mask- This intricate mask is made of gold-plated iron. Writhing snake tails radiate from a gemstone upon the brow, almost as if they were medusa-like hair. The mask grants a +4 bonus on all saving throws against visual effects, including gaze attacks and sight based illusions. Once per day as a standard action, the wearer can cause the central gemstone to glow with pale green light, at which point she may target any one creature within 30 feet. The targeted creature must succeed at a DC 15 Fortitude save or be petrified for 1 minute, as if by flesh to stone.
The third item is a silver medallion engraved with the sihedron rune, just like the one you found on Nualia, that you can now identify. While worn, the Sihedron medallion gives the wearer a +1 resistance bonus on saving throws, and once a day, as a free action, can be activated to bestow the wearer the effects of false life at CL 5.
The fourth item is a Snakeskin Tunic- is a tight, form-fitting shirt crafted from the scales of a giant snake. When worn, it grants a +1 armor bonus to AC, a +2 enhancement bonus to Dexterity, and a +2 resistance bonus on saving throws against poison.
The last item is a ring of protection +1.
The lock to the one chest opens. You find four potions - three of which you identify as cure moderate wounds and the last remaining a mystery, a +2 kukri, a ring of jumping, and a beetle-shaped pin.
The pin is a golembane scarab.
Lym Blackhand |
My home internet has been down since yesterday evening, and I am only posting now by the good grace and hospitality of my sister. ^^; Until this problem is resolved, I can't post every day.
Dax Thura |
I suggest Lym for the Snakeskin Tunic and a potion of Cure Moderate Wounds. She'd give up the Cloak of Resistance +1.
The Kukri +2 would make a good back up weapon for Praxim and the front-liner should have a Potion of Cure Moderate Wounds.
Rhianni could make use of the Cloak of Resistance +1 from Lym, the Ring of Protection +1, and a Potion of Cure Moderate Wounds.
Tomaru can take the Sihedron Medallion and the Mystery Potion.
This leaves the Impaler of Thorns, the Medusa Mask, Ring of Jumping, and a Golembane Scarab.
Thoughts?
Rhianni Verdani |
Yep makes sense Dax,
I think that the Medusa Mask is something we should keep, not sure who it would be benefitting most.
The Impaler of Thorns, doesn't seem so helpful for the party, but useful as a+1 spear. Probably sell it .. ?
Golembane Scarab, either Tomaru or Praxim or sell???
Ring of Jumping, might be useful to save on other magic, until we no longer need it.... Whoever would benefit most.
Praxim |
The golembane scarab would be good to hang on to, and probably best used by Praxim, since his smite evil is useless for bypassing the DR of golems except flesh golems, and he's the one most likely to always be using weapons in such combat.
I would agree to selling Impaler of Thorns, probably to the same temple that bought the masks.
Are we waiting for something in particular, or have we just lost all momentum in this game at the moment?

We have 3 or 4 players wanting to join as well as a GM.
So please wander over Lym to the recruitment thread
Players hoping to join...
Kienyach Vonnarc: Half-Elf Brawler 7
Thordak Ironheart: Mountain Dwarf Barbarian (Titan Mauler)
Alex Martin: Fighter/Rogue
Sixteenbiticon: LG ranger (guide archetype)
So if Old Guy GM joins as the GM, we can if we want take one or two new characters, to add to the party.
Praxim |
Dax and I have played with Javell before, and so can vouch for him, plus a dwarven barbarian with a giant beef sounds like a fun dynamic to add to the group.
Rangers are always welcome in any wilderness campaign, so those are my two votes.
Lym Blackhand |
I humbly apologize for my unannounced - and entirely unplanned - absence.
You see, my home internet has crapped out on me once again, and I am waiting for it to be restored. Until it is, I can't come online every day. Please DMPC me as required... >_<;
Anyway, I'm in favour of Thordak Ironheart and Alex Martin, especially.
Old Guy GM |
So I have a question for the group, specifically Praxim and Lym. It appears that you have been using your Detect Magic and Evil as a sort of "active sensor". I might be persuaded on Detect Magic, as it functions like a cone, but Detect Evil is very specifically used on an object or a person as a standard action. Am I missing something? Is this how you all agreed for this to work?
Praxim |
The paladin detect evil works slightly different from the spell. Normally, detect evil works like any other detection spell, in that you can study an area or creature as a standard action each round.
Paladins get a second option, to study a single creature or object as a move action and learn all the information he'd get studying it for three rounds with the normal spell, at the expense of not noticing any other auras for that time. This ability doesn't negate the normal method of using detect evil, which is what I tend to fall on, scanning an area.
Old Guy GM |
Well, it appears that I was wron.....
I mean, it looks as if I may be wro...
It's possible that I am wr...
Ahem. I have SLIGHTLY miscalculated on the whole Detect Evil thing. 20 years as a GM, with Pathfinder since Alpha, and I never looked at it that way, as an either/or. Man, my RL paladin will be ecstatic!
So as long as the cone effect is used as a standard action, like the spell; and the object/person is used as a move action, all is well. The cone can "see through walls" as it were, the other option cannot.
Oh, and -10,000,000 xp for making me learn something new. Old dogs and all that.

A couple of other things:
1. You won't need to put all of your modifiers separately in your die rolls just for me. If it helps you to remember, fine, if not, I trust you to do the right thing. I'm in it for the story, and mods on your honor is good enough for me.
2. Unless you guys are really hung up on rolling to determine what magic items are. I usually assume that that you will -eventually - succeed. So I will normally just tell you what you have. HOWEVER, if you are in the middle of combat, and you just HAVE to find out what that sword is to use it, you are rolling.
3. I like Tomaru's posting of ongoing effects and such. Very helpful for me.
Javell DeLeon |
What's up, folks? Thanks for picking me up, I appreciate it!
I know Nazard and Dax but Deevor and Aebliss are unfamiliar to me. Although I have seen Deevor around here and there.
Okay, a couple things:
What point buy are y'all using? I'm guessing 20?
Are we using Wealth By Level? Honestly, even if we do, I'd rather build this guy around whatever the average wealth is for each of YOU. I don't really like coming in here with a ton of bling yet the rest of you only have, like, +1 armor. :P I'm sure that's not the case but I'll go with whatever you all feel is cool. It's all good to me.
Hit points? How do you do hp's, Old Guy? Or do we just roll with Half+1? Or possibly some other method?
Dax Thura |
I started doing the separate modifiers to help me make sure I was allowing for all of my bonuses and penalties. It also allows the gm (and other players) to double check my numbers.
You want to cut the rolls to figure out magic items. Ok with me.
Again, the list helps me keep things straight. If it helps you, good.
