Yeah, lost some tree limbs, and our rain barrel got blown across the yard, but nothing major. Tornado sirens kicked on for a few minutes, but local weather said it didn't touch down. Thanks for asking. :)
Morin Tidelock |
Ok, like the man said, I did the math. Our three strongest characters together can push 3250 lbs, which is pretty impressive:
Tekk max load = 300x5=1500
Corbyn max load =175x5= 875
Sarusa max load = 175x5= 875
Total = 3250 lbs
But if we figure the door is a foot thick, then the 6'x4' door weighs 3600 lbs:
24 cu ft door x 150# per cu ft = 3600#
There are recessed handles on it - if we could pull instead of push, we could have the horses help, or just do it for us. Or we could eat lunch, get on the horses, and go look for our lost taxman.
Tekkis Smalltooth |
I'm inclined to move on. Tekk isn't the type of guy to break into a tomb just for kicks. And with such a massive door, it's really unlikely that anything has made it out, and that's his main concern.
Morin Tidelock |
I was only sort of thinking of it as a part worth exploring, I mostly just thought it would make a funny visual to have Morin say the magic words up there. But when I got a request for a Climb check, it seemed like more than that.
You coming?
Morin Tidelock |
It is all happening fast - but that's so nice in a PbP. And thanks for your concern. I think.
And I've only just gone down the hole - Corbyn could reel me up easy-peasy lemon squeezy and you could ward me (the vanguard, I like that!) all you want.
Morin Tidelock |
You could just ask GMPM in OOC if he'd allow Chloe to have PFE'd Morin, TLA?
(All of those should be clear except the last one, which is a favorite of mine. Explanation will cost you 3 internets, but I'm curious if anyone knows it.)
Morin Tidelock |
Thank you for the quick thinking and nice roll, Karo!
TLA - from a Charles Stross novel - don't know if any of you are fans, but he does a nice line in light Lovecraftian horror/spy thrillers with a funny side. One of his characters works for an intelligence agency known only as TLA - which one eventually learns stands for Three Letter Acronym.

Guys, in the future, please roll saving throws in proper initiative order when we are in initiative. So, using Morin as an example, his first roll would have been his saving throw, since he got bitten before it was his turn to act. His climb roll would come second. Please let me know if there are any questions. Thanks.
Morin Tidelock |
Ok, sorry about that. I wrote up his action and then remembered the save, so I plugged it in, but I still could have put it in there in the proper order - and I see why it makes a difference. Why don't we switch the order of those rolls, and use my climb roll for the save and vice versa?
GM Psychic Machinery |
No worries man, I hadn't asked before, so it's not an issue. We can let it play out the way it is and move forward. Besides, now I get to drop you back into the pit for failing the climb check. *Maniacal laugh*
Anyway, regarding total defense, the climb skill says you lose your Dex bonus to AC, and total defense is a dodge bonus, so I'm going to rule that you can't use it while climbing, or falling, for that matter, because the dodge bonus states that anything that negates dex bonus to AC (except for armor) negates dodge bonus as well.
I hope that makes sense. I'll hold off on updating the campaign thread in case there's something I missed that you can point me towards that allows total defense in this situation.
Morin Tidelock |
@GMPM - your take on total defense makes sense, and was why I put it in as something I'd do if possible. I can see how hanging from a rope would limit my Dex. I don't think I should be falling back in, since I was tied in to the end of the rope, but if there's a check needed for that, let me know.
Morin Tidelock |
Yes, that's what I expected. Nice of you to ask. I feel your judgment on this kind of stuff is quite fair, so in the future you should just proceed with what makes sense to you. I don't want to hold things up for the rest of the gang!
Morin Tidelock |
What is the DC for the STR checks everyone is doing? We have 3 humans trying to lift a weight of 34 lbs., just trying to figure out whether Morin plays yo-yo for a bit or can expect to get hauled out of the dark, nasty hole soonish.
Chloe Havener |
I'm going to guess it was only harder the first time because Morin was in a zombie dog's mouth and therefore it was fighting back. And, I'm also theorizing that, unless he's well enough out of range, there might be something else that tug-o-wars for the little man.
This is why we don't dangle meat on anthills.
Morin Tidelock |
Well, I suppose as long as they aren't radioactive ants, we're not in any real danger.
But think how strong Morin would be! Except rather than in a radioactive anthill, he's in an undead mausoleum. Hmmm. Think how unsleeping Morin would be? Not as appealing.
Morin Tidelock |
why not dangle Chloe from, you know, such great heights, and have her channel death from above?
Just what I had in mind too. Though I guess it's life from above, which isn't what one typically rains on one's enemies, but it'll do nicely here.
Chloe Havener |
"Come down now," the zombies'll say, though it will just sound like 'bleargh'.
And I'd run with it...
S' long as y'all take better care of Chloe than they did Morin, damnitall(...that fickle dicebot). Though I have yet to lose any characters in the few pbps I've played in, not sure how long that can last with my track record.
Oh, by-the-by, Morin wouldn't get a chance to enjoy the insomnia of a new, mindless undead existence. Why? Let's ask our sponsors...
Morin Tidelock |
Wow, the musical references have moved about 3 decades forward since last week! I always wished I liked the music of "And You Shall Know Us..." as much as I liked their song titles. But their titles are brilliant.

I'm not sure I like where this comment seems to be heading. I'd prefer to think that the party are currently taking inadequate care of Morin, rather than think that they did take inadequate care of him, may he rest in pieces.
GM Psychic Machinery |
Uhm, Mr. Gm... would you allow the lifelink to go through before the death of Morin? Because... I think...
Oh ho! Look who knows so much! Turns out, your friend is only mostly dead, which means he's slightly alive. If he were all dead... Well with all dead, there's only one thing you can do. Go through his clothes and look for loose change.
Morin is dying, and by my count, he has reached a negative hit point total equal to his constitution score, so he's dead, but your life link is active, so on Chloe's turn he gets 5hp and is stabilized. If the turn ended before the life link kicked in, he would be dead-dead. In the future, please be more careful with your halfling.
Morin Tidelock |
I'd be very interested to hear the answer to Chloe's question, as my math takes me to the same point as hers: After these attacksm Morin will be at -12, with a 12 Con.
Edit: removed a barrage of questions for GMPM which were rendered irrelevant once I read his post more carefully.
And, uh, about that Lifelink?
Morin Tidelock |
Oh, best ninja moment evah! Thank you for the interpretation, and the advice for my colleagues on treatment of halflings.
Edit: my count was same, so Morin will be at -7 after the lifelink heals him. Now I can roll three Fort saves! Huzzah!
Sarusa Almanthis |
Can anyone jump down there safely (high HP person)? Gellig can. And curse it, I didn't prepare Cure anything. :(
I have no Sigur Røs puns today, although I am reduced to being a Starhalbalfur at the moment. (staring half-elf. What! I have no material.)
