I'll be ready.


Casting the appropriate spells and moving into position the tactical squad of Beck, Sheelah, and Venja with support from Duardlara approaches the front of the clock tower. They are arriving a bit later than the witch usually does but they will have to see how that plays out.

Moving in through the front area to the porch the front three feel like someone somehow is watching them closely. Yet for all of that they see nothing amiss and nothing happens as they knock on the door. It opens up to reveal an ice troll standing there. Looking at Venja he growls out, A little late today aren't you. Getting soft and comfortable are you in your job. Perhaps we should inform them of your actions.

Beck are you hiding Sheelah or just making her look like a pup?

Map assuming that Sheelah is a pup. There is suppose to be a large troll at the door but forgot to make it visible to players.

Venja just shrugs off the chastisement, and coughs raspily... pushing Beck before her with just enough vehemence to appear rough, even though she isn't really.

if Beck has the spell, he might want to pocket Sheelah rather than pup-shape her


Please everyone update their profile with spells prepared so I know what you are doing. In this case I can't see what Beck has prepared for the day or cast to this point.

Yes Duardlara you will have the +20 to stealth for being invisible.

Duardlara sees the door open and casts her glamour to hide herself temporarily. Moving quickly she ends up next to Beck but no one realizes that at the moment.

At the same time Venja doesn't take the bait from the ice troll and just shoves Beck inside, moving the troll slightly out of the way. The troll allows the child to enter and when Venja doesn't answer verbally he chuckles evilly. I thought so. Just remember who is in charge here and that we were tasked by the queen herself. Now scram unless you want to be added to the menu as well.

D'lara would be trying to slip in with the 'boy', crouching to avoid an accidental contact with the troll.

I didn't go back and look - what do we know about ice trolls?


This is assuming that Beck does not attack the ice troll as he is currently unarmed and unarmored...I would permit a concealed weapon/item though as they are not checking you outside of just a visual inspection.

The ice troll chuckles at Venja's attempt to get past him. Not a chance there. I don't care what this boy did to you. You're not getting in. Now scram!!

Venja is rebuffed by the troll but it did buy enough time for Duardlara to slip into the room unnoticed. She is running out of time though before her spell expires to find a hiding place to lay low. Luckily the troll slams the door closed on Venja and takes the child gruffly farther into the clock tower. She does see a set of keys on the ice troll's belt that the troll is grabbing for as he takes Beck away.

The door to the north is closed, the double door to the west are closed. The troll went through the east doors to bring Beck to the holding pens..

L5 description: Weapon racks line the north and south walls of this room while two armor dummies stand in the northeast and southwest corners. A long table sits near the middle of the rrom covered with weapons of various sizes. The only occupant is a troll hound dozing in the corner.

L6 description: Three prison cells line the north wall of the this chamber while a fourth is set in an alcove to the east. Towards the northeast corner stands a large butcher's block covered with old blood stains. A cleaver, too large for human hands, is imbedded in it. A bare table rests along the west wall. 6 children occupy the 3 cells to the north while Beck is deposited in the cell to the east. An albino bugbear, 7 feet tall, is terrorizing the children in the cells as the ice troll enters.

Duardlara unlatches the front door as soon as the ice troll is out of the room, leaving it open a crack, and quickly moves to listen at the door to the north.

Venja curses herself for a fool, until the door unlatches itself, which she attributes to the invisible 'Lara. She sends Snow to fetch the others and slips inside as quietly as she can.

Back with the rest of the party, Snow does the whole Lassie bit without the whining, since bunnies don't whine... she wipes her nose and runs a few steps... turns back and looks at them... wash, rinse, repeat until they start following her and she leads them to the tower, where...

Venja leaves the outer door barely ajar for the others to let themselves in and listens from the foyer for what is going on elsewhere in the tower. She changes her disguise to that of a small girl with dark hair, dressed in rags, so if caught she might look like an escaped child.

Venja:
The foyer door remains slightly open as Venja slips in seeing nothing in front of her. The door to the right is open with light coming from within. You can hear the sound of children crying from that direction along with the sound of the ice troll and another large creature. To the west and north the doors are closed.

Duardlara:
After unlatching the door you move tot he north and take a listen there. You hear nothing coming from the other side but that is not unusual considering the clock tower is so loud it is hard to hear anything at all. That helps you though as you feel more confident moving around unseen. The problem you realize is that you only have another 6 seconds to find a spot to hide till your glamour wears off.

Beck:

Are you willingly letting yourself be locked in the cage? The ice troll and bugbear are staying put for the moment. The bugbear is tormenting the children and the ice troll is poking you in the ribs to see how juicy and tender you are.

Duardlara sees Venja move to the corner T24 and realizes they will both be exposed if she moves to that side, so she moves to the opposite corner Q22 and hopes the boys show up quickly, drawing her rapier and holding it point-down.

The ice troll moves back into the main room leaving child Beck in the cage. He moves over to where the troll hound is located and after giving the hound a boot he starts to 'attack' the dummy there. It is plain to see that he is skilled in tactics and quite powerful.

Duardlara I will need a stealth check vs the troll's perception if you are staying put as now the glamour is gone. Venja you are fine as he did not spot you this time and until you make further actions there is no need for additional stealth checks.

Is the double door between D'lara and the ice troll open, then? I should have asked earlier. Assuming it is based on your description:

Feeling very exposed, Duardlara moves very slowly and carefully across to the other corner next to the double doors (Q24).

Does the bugbear appear to have a ranged weapon or just that nasty axe in the pic, ad can he reasonably attack me through the cage?

Beck gets locked up, not really able to fight, but does move to P:36 to check his LoS out the room he stands in into the room with the troll Should be able to see [R:29] and [S:28] with cover, and to the lower of the double doors. can't see the troll but if he moves one space then i will.

He also watches for what the troll does with the key when he locks beck in the cage.

The troll puts the key ring back on his belt to keep with him at all times. The albino owlbear has claws that look like they could reach into the cage Beck if he really wanted to cause harm. At this point though he is just terrorizing the children and getting some sadistic glee from it.

The troll startst o hack away at the dummy when from the corner of his eye he notices a flash of color and movement that did not exist there moments before. Turning his head he looks carefully and Venja and Duardlara see him start to move over tot he doorway growling at the troll hound to accompany him. Beck can just make out the growling as well.

Earlier I asked what, if anything, we know about ice trolls from previous experience. I am afraid that might be very important information right about now.


On my iPad so no map update but I can move things along...Venja only a single action so you wouldn't be able to move in the surprise round as well.

Will save troll 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
Will save Hound 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 1 = 12

Blindness imparts a -4 to Init so since combat hasn't really started with round 1 yet the penalty applies. Good guys up for round 5. Helgash and Jetro are active on round 8..

The ice troll bangs into the armored dummy as the dust settles int othis eyes. Not being able to see anything he calls out to the albino bugbear, Bonepick, get out here we are under and attack.

The troll hound lets out a howl as the room fades out to nothing but white light as the motes prevent it from seeing anything.
