Duardlara Frostborn |
Duardlara you don't know what it was that she cast. If you would have been abel to see the hand gestures you think you would have figured it out though.
Does the glittered child respond to my whisper?
Beck Tavis |
I trust Sheelah's nose, D'lara! Careful, that may be the witch, using magic ta hide her form!
perception: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (20) + 14 = 34
If I think it's the witch can I have sheelah grab her?
Helgash |
"Be careful!" - Helgash adds when he listens to Beck's words, moving as close to Duardlara as possible and, without a word, linking his own life force with hers.
Move: Towards Duardlara (not sure of the distance)
Standard: Life Link with Duardlara
Beck Tavis |
grapple: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23
Sheelah tears up and wraps her arms around the "child", which does provoke an AoO if the unarmed child is actually armed, or the witch is near enough.
Duardlara Frostborn |
Duardlara shares your suspicions.
"Come now, we are not novices here. Drop the pretense."
Duardlara does not approach the child close enough to be touched, circling quietly around to the side in hopes of cutting off her escape.
Stealth: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (3) + 12 = 15
She draws her light mace and weighs the results of clocking the child if he is genuine and not the witch. Wincing, she darts in, sending the head of the weapon out to smack the 'child', attempting a knockout rather than a kill.
Nonlethal attack: 1d20 + 7 - 4 ⇒ (19) + 7 - 4 = 22
Damage: 1d6 + 2d6 ⇒ (1) + (5, 3) = 9
DM Variel |
Will save 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
Still blind the now grappled boy still has its arms raised towards Venja's voice. I don't know what your talking about. Please help me! Stark terror is in his voice as he begs for help. There is no sign of the witch still
Bluff 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (16) + 9 = 25
You guessed it the boy is the witch under an alter self spell but hopefully no one makes the DC.
Good guys up with the boy found and helpless.
Duardlara Frostborn |
No reaction from getting clobbered with a light mace? I would expect that much damage to put a child out like a light.
DM Variel |
wow, sorry Duardlara. I completely missed that when i was typing the update. my fault.
The child starts screaming and thrashing wildly in sheelah's grip as he is pummeled from out of no where. The blow was solid but it didn't knock the boy out. Clearly this lad is a tough one and has been in trouble before.
Venja |
not gonna roll sense motive since i can't make the dc even with a 20
know arcane: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (18) + 11 = 29
I'm hoping that's high enough to agree with Beck
"She could be hiding her form... keep him bound and gag him too if you can..."
Duardlara Frostborn |
If Venja or Helgash makes the aid roll, Jetro has a sufficient base roll - if Variel allows that to count.
"Relax, my friend. I don't think this is a child. That tap should have knocked the child out cold. I have a pretty good idea what it would take."
Venja |
Venja turns her own witchy senses to the idea of determining if the child is actually a witch, conferring with Jetro as she does so... musing softly about taps to the head and that's where she heard movement to, and so forth.
sm assist, dc 10: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
However she fails to make any headway in such endeavor... sigh
Helgash |
SM: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
Hehe, no chance...
"Where is the woman boy? Did you see where she went?" - Helgash begins to ask, but stops short when Duardlara hits the boy across the head - "Jetro is right" - he adds with a stern voice - "Are you sure of what you claim? Would you find acceptable harming a children for such a confirmation? Do not do it again please" - but the paladin again focuses his attention, now on the child, trying to pierce the veil, and finding if there is evil beneath.
Truth be told, he actually never stopped Detecting Evil, right Variel?
DM Variel |
Just saw this rule Duardlara that you can not sneak attack while doing subdual damage with a lethal weapon. It is fine for now but something to remember in the future. might want to get a sap for such purposes.
Helgash detects no evil in the child before him and with everything else it seems like the boy is indeed nothing but a boy who happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. Perhaps the witch teleported out somehow and the boy was unlucky enough to be in that spot when Venja cast her spell. as it is the boy still thrashes at Sheelah as she holds him tight.
The boy hollers out to Helgash while sobbing, I can't see anything. Who is there, why won't you help me? Please?
will save 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
bluff 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (1) + 9 = 10 You realize that the boy would not be invisible and only be seen because of the glitterdust. As you saw/heard the witch cast a spell to disappear it is a decent assumption that the boy is the witch. Of course if the boy found a potion of invisibility that would explain why the witch was having to sniff him out in the first place. If you found the other boy that would clear matter sup quickly as well.
please roll low everyone. this is fun watching some of you squirm and take some possibly evil acts.
Venja |
sm: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11 haha gotcha by 1
"The witch was invisible... and the 'boy' was only revealed by spell... why would the boy have been invisible, a child would not have such an ability. Self-disguise IS a witch's perogative either by spell or hex."
Beck Tavis |
SM: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6
But, don't hit the child, we don't know for sure... Beck says. SHeelah Hold! beck orders, and the cat cuddles the child thoroughly.
Grapple: 1d20 + 5 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 5 + 4 = 14 to try to pin
Perception: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (5) + 14 = 19 to find the real kid/witch in the room.
Helgash |
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17
"Beck is right" - Helgash agrees, moving closer to the child - "Even if this is all very strange, we need to stop hurting this child" - he adds, standing close to him, looking around.
"What is your name boy?" - the tiefling asks.
DM Variel |
Sheelah is able to pin the boy down but only because he is blind and can not escape easily enough. The boy seems to realize that the creature holding him has not actually damaged him yet and is just preventing him from escaping. Hearing a few men's voices rebuking someone for striking him he strains in their direction for succor. please sir, I am... Jo-Thur. I can't see you but please keep them from hitting me again.
will save 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5 Wow
You catch that the boy paused before saying his name as you can tell he was trying to think of one quickly.
bluff 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (1) + 9 = 10 Double wow
Alright, three nat 1's in a row. You were meant to get this now and not draw it out any longer.
As the boy is talking Beck sees movement under one of the tables 20 feet away. moving over he finds another boy wearing little but rags with dirt all over his face. There are streaks on his face from where tears have washed that area clean. He shies away from your approach but eventually you are able to get to him if you want.
Beck Tavis |
1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
Hold that one SHeelah beck says to his kitten. C'mon out boy, it's alright. Don't mind me, I'm jsut a satry-lookin fella, see, i even got the pipes. I'll play ya a song if ya want when you come out, or now, i'm really pretty bad at playing... Beck tells the child. coaxing him out.
and what's your name?
the other "child" is still invisible then?
Sheelah snuggles the kid
grapple: 1d20 + 5 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 5 + 4 = 15
Venja |
"Come boy, we mean you no harm, we want to send you home safely to your family."
diplo: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22
Duardlara Frostborn |
Sorry, DM Variel, I should have remembered that. Consider it a punch, then, since she should not provoke against a blind opponent. The weapon only did 1 point of damage, so the total would be the same.
I have some catching up to do:
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15
"This is no child, friends. How long does it take you to think of your own name? She had to make something up - did you notice her pause? The lad over there is the one she sought - she's used some form of magic to appear to be an innocent. I wonder how long it lasts - maybe long enough that she will be nice and tender for the trolls to feast on."
She holds the mace at the ready, watching to see if the false child tries to cast a spell, but she waits for her friends to indicate whether they are convinced before she otherwise hurts the "child".
Venja |
Venja holds out her hand to Bjorn and smiles at him warmly. "We'll make sure you get back home, Bjorn. You will be safe now."
Helgash |
"Stand down - your illusion is forfeit! Surrender, or you will be cut down" - Helgash roars at the witch.
Ready action to attack in case she does not comply, or tries to cast. Attacking for non-lethal damage.
Bardiche Attack: 1d20 + 7 - 4 ⇒ (16) + 7 - 4 = 19
Damage: 1d10 + 12 ⇒ (4) + 12 = 16
DM Variel |
Giving up at last as she has been unable to escape or remove the blindness the witch sighs and loses the glamour that tried to make her invisible. What is it that you want? Can't you just leave me be. Who are you meddlesome people anyways?
Bjorn stands by Venja trembling in the cold wondering what is exactly in store for him and what his father will think. He is too scared though to voice anything at the moment as he watches with innocent eyes to see what you do to the witch.
Venja |
Venja removes her shawl and places it over Bjorn to help warm him, then puts an arm over the child's shoulder to calm and comfort him. "It's going to be fine, Bjorn."
Duardlara Frostborn |
Stepping back to let the archer and the paladin get in close to the witch to 'negotiate', Duardlara says, "Come, Venja, let us take Bjorn to his da while the boys talk to the good woman." Or at least out of this room. A child should not see what might come next.
"Bjorn, are there other children here?"
DM Variel |
N,n,n, no ma'am. I was the last one. I am good at hiding and was able to keep hidden as she came for the others. Something about an orphanage destroyed and the children brought here. Never really talked to the rest much ma'am.
Venja you and Duarlara are easily able to bring the child back to where Beck met the father. Knocking on the door the father comes out and says nothing before he grabs his son in a bear hug spinning him around. Bjorn, your home. Praise the gods you are home. I am sorry. Please forgive me. I didn't know what to do. He falls down and starts sobbing against his son letting all of the emotion go out that had been built up for the last couple of weeks.
Venja |
"I'm glad he's home... keep him safe, good sir... I wish you both the best in these dire times." Venja says, taking her shawl back when he's done with his bear hug of the child. She slips it back around her own shoulders.
Duardlara Frostborn |
Duardlara solemnly watches the reunion, saying nothing. When Venja indicates it's time to return to the witch's domicile, she follows.
Helgash |
"Now..." - Helgash glares - "It does not matter who we are. I want to hear the truth from you mouth - why have you taken the children to the tower" - he asks from her, plain and simple.
DM Variel |
The witch child looks at yours if you are daft. What are you some type of idiot fool.the Queen has declared that service to her by the ice trolls would result in fresh flesh and the most tender possible. This is nothing more than paying their dues for their allegiance to Her. I am simply the deliverer and get paid to do as ordered.
She speaks plainly enough that you would believe it to be at least mostly the truth. There may be an exaggeration of being a simple deliverer but what can you expect from a witch with a person who is deception.
Helgash |
"You are a monster!" - Helgash looms over her, eyes blazing in fury, his heart racing - "You deserve to die for the crimes you have commited" - he roars, staring into her eyes.
"I would deliver you to the authorities, but they are meaningless, and as foul as you are yourself" - he pauses, lifting his halberd, ready to kill her, and stands there for a few seconds - "We should end this here and now"
Any chance we can bind and gag her, delivering the witch to Solveig and his allies? If not, Helgash will execute her where she stands - he would never let such a monster live unpunished
Venja |
Venja gasps when she sees the dead witch. She may have been evil and done a lot of bad things, but she was still a sister witch and there is a connection. She does walk over to Helgash though and puts a hand gently on his shoulder..."I know that couldn't have been easy for you, but I know you didn't make such a decision lightly nor without good cause. Be at ease, holy warrior."
