The Journey Through Ustalav

The Hunger:

Hunger Rules

Where the living suffer physically from starvation, undead suffer mentally. After long enough without a “meal,” even the most arrogant vampire becomes a bestial creature of instinct. Withdrawal weakens the monster, and as its natural defenses fail, its behavior becomes irrational, particularly when it’s around sources of what it is denied or has denied itself.

A carnivorous or otherwise life-draining undead may safely go a number of days equal to its Hit Dice without a dose of its preferred meal before it starts to feel the effects of hunger. Each additional day after this grace period, the undead must make a Will save (DC 10 + 1/2 the undead creature’s Hit Dice, + 1 for each previous check).

If the undead creature fails its save, it enters withdrawal and begins to take penalties according to the Withdrawal Penalties table (see page 23). It must continue to save each day until it feeds again. Additional failed checks increase the penalties as shown on the table. Feats and abilities that affect mortal hunger (such as Endurance or a ring of sustenance) do not apply to vampire hunger.

An undead that is suffering from withdrawal grows increasingly drawn and gaunt (or diaphanous and tattered, for incorporeal undead). Any attempts by the creature to conceal its undead nature with the Disguise skill are penalized as noted on the table.

An undead that suffers withdrawal is acutely aware of its unfulfilled addiction; if presented with the chance to feed, it might be compelled to do so, regardless of the consequences. Anytime it comes within 10 feet of a helpless creature that can sate its desire, it must make another hunger save at the current DC. Failure means it falls upon the helpless creature—whether friend or foe— and attempts to consume or drain it. Until the undead has fed, it can take no action other than to feed from this helpless creature or to enable itself to feed (such as a moroi grappling a creature so it can use its blood drain). During this feeding frenzy, the undead creature takes a –2 penalty to its AC.

Withdrawal Effects

An undead that hasn’t fed recently suffers from withdrawal, depending on the number of hunger saves it has failed.

As shown on the Withdrawal Penalties table on the facing page, an undead creature suffering from withdrawal takes penalties to channel resistance, on Will saves, to Strength and Charisma scores, to damage reduction, to fast healing, and on Disguise checks. The withdrawal penalties apply only if the creature has the ability in question. For example, a hungry moroi’s damage reduction decreases, but a hungry ghoul ignores that column because it doesn’t have damage reduction. All penalties are removed when the creature completes a single feeding. This only ends the withdrawal penalties, and does not grant the creature any feeding bonuses beyond those granted by the creature’s ability associated with feeding.

If the undead’s Strength or Charisma penalties equal its Strength or Charisma, it becomes inert, helpless, and wracked by nightmares of hunger; it only revives if fed by another. An undead creature’s channel resistance, damage reduction, and fast healing cannot fall below 0.

Shadow's Status

There are places not for those of the world of light. The infinite darkness seething in Golarion’s depths hides terrors untold, abominations that stalk the realm of legend and depraved races praising foulnesses best left unnamed. Never does the searing sun turn its scouring eye upon the monstrosities of this tenebrous abyss, and for millennia untold horrors too foul to face the day have gathered and flourished below. This place is not for those of the world above, but peril and desperation sometimes force tragic souls to face the bleakness below. Those who pass into the dark rarely return, while those few who do are forever changed, their souls seared by the shadow of an endless night.

But what if, what if, the same could be said of the surface? In such a world would Vampires rule as Masters of all of the living? Would the living envy the dead their rest? But such a world exists only in the dreams of Vampires and the nightmares of mortals if such creatures even dream.

But what if... what if... that nightmare could become a reality?!

Shadow's Status

Prologue – 4708 AR

The impact was felt as far away as southern Cheliax and as far north as Kalsgard. A flash in the sky then the earth shaking. Then the waves, a Tsunami the likes of which Riddleport had never before seen struck the city. The streets were awash in salt water and the bodies of the dead. An island in the Varisian Gulf known as the Devil’s Elbow was obliterated by a falling star!

=

Drakina – Riddleport - Veldrin d'Shraen & Murza:
Riddleport has been ablaze with activity since the Starfall. Drakina herself though has been strangely absent. Business as usual has continued. Business for the Drakina Family of course is murder and misdirection.

During her absence the Drakina Seneschal discover that the Starfall event was no mere happenstance, something did this. Rumors of the involvement of the dark skinned cousins of the elves, the Drow were whispered about in the halls of power. Whispers that the Families have heard for who else has their ears and eyes as close to the shadows as the dead of Drakina? It seemed that a band of adventurers had uncovered this particular set of facts and their wagging tales brought it to the ears of the Drakina Family.

One month after Starfall it was not clear where Drakina had gone but her Seneschal, Robillar, received a missive from the Mistress. One that he shared with only Veldrin and Murza.

”The Mistress of Night has summoned you. You are to attend her at Court in Virlych in the Country of Ustalav. Your travel and arrival must be secret from all others in this Family and any you may encounter on your travels. Bring none of your toys with you Veldrin as they will only bring you unwanted attention.

It appears that your work for the Family has not gone unnoticed. See that you do not fail her in whatever endeavor she sets you upon”.

Tell me the route you will take upon your trip and whether you will travel together or separately. If you feed, you must make a Stealth or a Diplomacy check to ensure that you are either not detected or convince your victim that what too place was simply a rough dalliance. No taking 10 on this one. If you choose not to feed, you will arrive at Virlych Hungry.

==

Jair - Druma - Kisara Vulpina & Zelic Hook:
Absolom is far away right now, as far as can be based on what just took place. The job was supposed to be simple travel to the city of Kerse in Druma and assassinate a minor Noble who had uncovered evidence of the existence of the Families. The confusion came when both Kisara and Zelic arrived and there was no nobleman to be found but instead a Nercomancer. An elven Necromancer! The bastard took control of both Vampire Assassins and secreted them in his bag of holding.

When they were finally released it was in the middle of a fearsome battle among surface elves! The battle was over relatively quickly and the aggressors forced to flee, including the pair of Jair assassins’ and their new “Master” Angol Ceredir. Some sort of victory was achieved though as the woman who appeared to be leading the uprising struck down the elven leader before she escaped through a darkness enshrouded portal. Never before had either of the Jair seen an elf with such a wretched look of hatred on her face as that one had. The elves’ magic was enough to allow the trio to return to Kerse to lick their wounds.

After an unknown passage of time, the Jair Vampires’ were released from their imprisonment during the day, ”More work to be done my minions…” the Wizard murmured. As night passed into day, the magic binding the Jair to their new Master began to fade. However, between the Hunger and the daylight hours, neither of the two made a move. As night approached, the Necromancer seemed pre-occupied with a note he was transcribing from a magical sending he was participating in. His note was cut short as Kisara and Zelic, now freed of the control of the Wizard, slew him and feasted upon his blood.

The note indicated that “they” would be entering the Darklands to infiltrate a Drow city. They unfortunately are not named. After pocketing the note Kisara was able to establish contact with his Cohort who was luckily still in Druma. He delivers to both Vampires a missive, ”Master, Jair himself has requested your presence at Court in Virlych in the Country of Ustalav. It seems Norgorber was with you both as the missive just arrived yesterday! Where have you been?” Such a missive is not to be ignored lightly.

===

Zura - Virlych - Thulmere Harzhor & Allizsah Dravonie:
Thulmere frowns at the High Priestess of Zura as she eviscerates another mortal looking through the entrails to find a sign of something… Allizsah participates with glee in the ritual, it is in her nature to be so violent as Thulmere has long known. Ever since the death of her mother at the hands of mortal adventurers a decade ago, the Tiefling has become more and more perverse.

There are even rumors of this paticular Thrall having tasted the blood of other Families. Callistra Volinwrath though favors the young girl and so persist her flaunting of the rules of the House.

The assembled Vampires look on with interest or boredom, the six others in the room are the other Eldest of the Family. All look at Callistra as a usurper, less than a century old and the Matriarch for those whose combined years would span the whole of human history. But, the girl had the favor of Zura herself, demonstrated when she took the mantle of leadership from Auraxis Aurilious by turning him human and feeding upon him until he died once more. A fate no others wish visited upon themselves…

Callistra stands and sighs, ”I can divine nothing of this Starfall. It must portend nothing for us Thulmere”. Before Thulmere can respond an Acolyte, another of these Living Thralls that Callistra is so fond of, enters the room, ”Mistress, Drakina herself has arrived at Virlych and wishes to confer with you”.

Since that fateful day weeks ago, Callistra has not been seen. Rumors swirl that the members of the Eternal Council have all been arriving at Virlych, unusual as it is a full eight months before the next scheduled session is to be conducted. Not mere representatives either, the actual heads of the Families have arrived. Including the Mazeflesh Man himself if these rumors are to be believed.

Soon both Thulmere and Allizsah will have their curiosity satisfied as Callistra has called for both to enter the Council meeting this night!

Neither of you need to travel as you both reside at Virlych. A Tower, an abandoned village, and an underground stronghold comprise Virlych. Feel free to RP with each other until I move the group along.

====

Malkistra - Deepgate - Helt Vhis & Lener Wardwaver:
Choot Othul cackles at the two brutes before him. If the Seneschal of Vahnwynne Malkistra is anything like his God Zagresh the Destroyer, the Destroyer must be a demented being indeed.

”Our Founder has seen fit to journey to the cess pit that is Virlych. It seems that, as I predicted, the Starfall is a sign from the Destroyer himself! He has asked me to select those who I believe worthy of the honor of serving. What service you will provide I do not know as our Master has not seen fit to tell me this secret. You will discover what that is when you arrive. Travel as inconspicuous as you can. None must know you for what you are though soon the world will tremble beneath our might and die beneath our fangs if all goes according to the will of the Destroyer! Ask me nothing further for I have nothing further to offer you, return to the Hold victorious or as the ash you are fit to be if you cannot…”

Tell me the route you will take upon your trip. Lener you will need to take the leads here as Helt is a Pathfinder noob. If you feed, you must make a Stealth or a Diplomacy check to ensure that you are either not detected or convince your victim that what too place was simply a rough dalliance. No taking 10 on this one. If you choose not to feed, you will arrive at Virlych Hungry.

=====

Jerusen – Daggermark – Saban Wright:
A missive to meet in the dead of night in Daggermark can only mean one thing, a new assignment. As you watch the crowds go to and fro in the largest city in the River Kingdoms, you feel a presence behind you which can mean only one thing. A Jerunsen Vampire.

”Greetingssss Saban Wright”, the creature states. As you turn you see that it is a Vampire of the Nosferatu bloodline, these encounters can be dicey as they do not always respect you the same way True Vampires do, their beast is a bit closer to the surface.

”It has come to our attention that the Council of Eternal Night or Darkness of whatever these pretentious blood suckers call themselves are requesting the presence of all members to a Council meeting. No information is being provided as to why or what will be discussed. Therefore, we have decided that you shall represent Jerusen. You have the powers that all Councilors have. Should they not respect your authority it shall be up to you to gain such authority. Consider this a test Saban Wright, if you pass we shall induct you into our ranks, should you fail, no matter your abilities you will perish. Go and now to Virlych, the full council shall be assembled soon!”

Before you can ask any further questions, the creature shimmers and is gone.

Tell me the route you take to arrive at Virlych in Ustalav.

======

Ruithvein – Almas – Murnau Ruthven:
If any being not a spider could be considered the epitome of the spider, it is Murnau Ruthven. Seneschal to Blood Emperor Kalus himself, Murnau has long been a primary schemer behind the success of the Ruithvein Family.

However, the Mesmerist took notice of the news of the Starfall, something seemed different about the event. The destruction resulting from the event was something not seen since Millennia before he himself was born! As Murnau pondered the event in his daytime Reverie his suspicions were confirmed by a visit from Blood Emperor Ruithvein himself!

”Greetings my Childe. Long have I watched you bring power to my name and Family without the glory that such powers an accomplishments should bring. It is as I wished it to be, our greatest power is our anonymity. That anonymity may well be threatened by the action of the Council. Kalus even now arrives at Virlych to meet with the Eternal Council in a meeting so secretive he was directed not to even tell you about it. It is [i]my wish that you journey to Virlych as well volunteering yourself as an agent of the Council. While you may bring Caligo with you, you must leave your other Thralls behind. Your travel must be as discreet as possible. Tell no one you are leaving or why but do make haste”.

Tell me the route you will take upon your trip. If you feed, you must make a Stealth or a Diplomacy check to ensure that you are either not detected or convince your victim that what too place was simply a rough dalliance. No taking 10 on this one. If you choose not to feed, you will arrive at Virlych Hungry.

=======

Rogavia – New Stetven – Grym Slade:
Audbrey Aldamori sighs as he reads for the 10th time the request from the Eternal Council to attend an emergency session. ”It would be like them to call me away when a new campaign in the civil war is about to break out. All that bloodshed and me not a part of it… Ah , that’s it Grym! I could send you in my place.

Only then the Council may indeed decide something important and I would have to assume that you would vote the way I wish for things to be. I suppose there is nothing for it, I must go. That of course does not mean I need to go alone. You and your “Knight” can accompany me “Squire” Grym. He shall be excellent cover in aiding us to get south to Virlych in time”.

It seems that Audbrey was asked by the Council to travel light as he brings no other retainers or retinue just the three of you to this oh so important meeting. He offers very little in explanation for asking you along. Truth be told, you have had little interaction with the Patriarch before this so perhaps this will ne a good thing…

========

Thuvia – Elidir - Rosalind:
Rosalind is simply too kind hearted and so are her little “pets”. No, Voracia Thuvia does not like it, not one bit. It’s time to toughen you up and so Voracia has taken you on a “road trip”. The aim, to cause terror and fear and panic among the mortals and bring you another step closer to utter darkness. Of course, Voracia has chosen to do so among the mortals of other Families and not her own in her stronghold thus the trip.

As you stop in Elidir, far from Voracia’s places of power she receives a magical missive.

”Summoned to Virlych? Who are they to summon me anywhere!….” She pauses and looks to you, ”Yes, that’s it, you’ll come with me my dear, I’ll make a true Vampire out of you yet or I’ll leave you at the Council performing menial tasks literally for the rest of eternity…”

It comes as no surprise she does not tell you why you will be going and what for but this would be your first Council meeting and perhaps an opportunity to get out from under your Mistresses’ thumb!

Let Darkness Fall:

"Of course, my master. It will be my honor. We have stayed in the shadows for so long, it would be a shame to be burned away with a new dawn. It shall be done as you command, my Emperor. The Eternal Council shall find in me a willing servant, yet I will remain utterly loyal to you. We shall leave at nightfall. But, my Emperor, what of our coffins? If I have found favor in the sight of my lord, might I have such funds as to acquire a bag of holding, that my servant and I may be less vulnerable as we carry out your commands, and avoid the Endless Night for another century?"
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 20 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 20 + 1 = 30
Just trying to convince the Blood Emperor himself to provide a bag of holding to carry our coffins in. No biggie.

Regardless of the outcome, Murnau and Caligo set off as soon as they gather their possessions (trying to fit their coffins into handy haversacks, using a pair of scrolls of shrink item if that didn't work), transforming into a wolf and a swarm of bats, respectively, and traveling using the shade, using Murnau's Umbral Shield trick as needed. They travel underground when possible, or at nighttime, making their way through the Dwarven tunnels under the Five King Mountains, crossing Kyonin through Tanglebriar (resting for the day and feeding in Razmiran, disguising themselves as Razmiran priests), then flying over Lake Encarthan from Thronestep to Caliphas in one night (traveling at full speed), until they finally arrived in Ustalav for the Council's meeting.

It's official. The dice hate me in this game.
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (7) + 20 = 27 (If needed)

The two arrive dramatically, the first sign of their coming a subtle yet ominous melody heard in the minds of those present. Following this, wisps of smoke and millions of skittering spiders made their way into the middle of the arrival area, where they coalesced into the noble-looking moroi and his black-armored menacing companion.

The Priestess and The Ancient Knight:

Thulmerë watches the ritual with curiosity, observing the way the Allizsah slices through the mortals skin like a hot blade through fat.

Covered in mithral Hellplate, taking the form of some unknown demonic figures and bare flesh, with bracers made from the scales of some mythic serpent of legend. Armour that is perhaps as ancient as the vampire donning it. Engraved upon his armour, from his waist is a depiction of Zura as a demonic snake slithering up towards the middle of his chest, feeding upon a human heart in which takes the form of her unholy symbol. Truly a sacrilege to the faith of Zura.

Thulmerë approaches right up to the alter, pushing down his a mouth guard in the demonic visage to reveal his mouth. A long snake like tongue, moving quickly to taste the victims blood. As quickly as the tongue came out, it was gone.

"Ah, this mortal was afraid. Excellent work Allizsah, Callistra does well to keep you alive. Your work reminds me of Queen Zura when she was a mortal. It is not often I bestow grace upon the living, consider it a token for your work."

Thulmerë glares at the acolyte as he finishes,Cutting off Thulmerë."You dare interrupt me?! I served Queen Zura for years, if it were not for Lady Callistra I'd have you resting on a pike as drain the last bit of hope from your pulsating neck!"

Thulmerë will wipe the blood from his lips."Forgive me, my Lady. I've served this house generations, before it was founded. After nearly a century, I'm still not use to these mortals walking around these unhallowed. When the first starfall occurred it was for our malice, our arrogance, we challenged our Aboleth overlords after defeating the serpents. This time it's not a punishment, perhaps a rewards?"

Thulmerë will press in the heart in his armour, his helmet transforms into a beautiful circlet, the cumbersome plate becomes a silk gold trimmed toga over his ancient Azlant robes, depicting some Azlant motifs and iconography.

Thulmerë resembles an azlanti, even after thousands of years. His hair long and ebon, his skin now a pale olive colour, yet his eyes remain ever purple, as if they were cut and polished amethysts.
"We have guests." he said, with sickening glee.

i will wait and react to Allizsah Dravonie

So it begins:
Allizsah looked up to the Azlant man and grinned. Her arms where covered from fingers to elbows in the blood of the of her most resent victim and the top of her dress was wrapped around her waist, her thin small bat like wings wrapped around her chest. This allowed her to show the mark Zura herself bestowed upon the tiefling, but also kept it clean.

"Ah, Thulmerë my thanks." Allizsah said as she brought her left hand to her lips and licked some of the blood from her skin. "Such a flatterer." She commented before cleaning the remaining blood from her arms as the Azlant man snapped at the acolyte. "Calm calm." Allizsah sighed softly as she returned to his side. "It would seem so, I look foreword to seeing how this goes hmm."[/n] She said smiling eerily as she removed her wings and unrolled the top of her dress. She linked the silver chain that held it together in the front then adjusted it so that the split that ran from neckline to navel was just so. Ensuring her birthmark was showing.

[b]"So, Thulmerë, what shall we do with the time we have? After all the meeting is not till this eve." She stated as she gracefully folded her arms. "Would you be willing to allow me to pick you brain over lost lore?" She asked, her smile returning.

Old Bonds and New Blood:
Having murdered the Necromancer and drunk her fill, Kisara had taken her first bath in what felt like an age. She emerged from her bath smelling of lavender, squeaky clean, just in time to step in to the green silk dress that Angelito offered to her.

"Ah Angelito, whatever would I do without you?"

"You manage quite well on your own Miss, you do not need me when you are out hunting after all!" The man smiled brightly at her, leading her to a chair and sitting her down, before beginning to towel her hair dry, as she began to affix her jewels in place.

"Yes, I do!" She smiled, brightly as she turned her head to glance at Zelic.

"Well dearest brother I am flattered you leave the decision up to me. I suggest that we make our way to an Inn near the docks and my dear Angelito finds us a ship destined for either Caliphas or Thronestep, whichever he can find. We can indulge ourselves in a night of fun while he does this. Then I suggest we use this bastards trick and we secrete ourselves in his bag of holding while Angelito takes ship. He will let us free when we are underway and we will have our run of the ship in no time. Do you agree mon cher?"

How many times do we need to feed? Could I realistically just have Kisara feed on Angelito without it having an adverse effect on him?

I'm sure you're aware of what happens if one of those things were to rip...not pretty, from what I've heard.
Zelic shakes his head slowly, with a frown, then continues. His frown turns to a wickedly handsome smile, and he gestures behind Kisara, pointing towards the young man drying her hair.

"Now here's another idea: flying by night. Of course, we'd have to carry poor Angelito, but if he can stomach the trip, and if we all are willing to hide from a day's worth of sun on the Isle of Terror, then I think we might fit most of this voyage inside the week." Zelic stops to give Kisara a chance to reply, then quickly adds one final addendum.

"And for what it's worth, as much as I'd like taking the ship, I don't know that we've the time to plan the proper story to explain away why all the crew and all the passengers save one had disappeared, or seen vampires, even. Expedience is good, but evidence of our passing won't earn us any favor with the Family. What do you think of that, my dear sister?"

As a Dire Bat, Zelic has enough Strength to carry Angelito and still be within a Light Load, meaning we can fly through the night and probably cover ~90-100 miles while the sun's down. Should be able to do Ustalav in maybe 5 days moving that way. I'd hate to keep Dad waiting :)

Jair:

Kisara tilts her head to the side in thought, frowning slightly. "Oh brother Angelito would not let me die in such a way, would you pet?" She looked genuinely hurt that the man thought so, but continued on before her retainer could answer.

"I can see your point however and I even agree with you on the ship. I was planning on us turning them in to our play things but we probably do not have the time to do such completely!" She sighed slightly before standing, moving to stare out the window.

"And you think we can make the Isle of Terror in one night? Because if not, then we will be lost in the water with nowhere to go. If you are sure we can fly, you in all your gigantic majesty and I in my many forms, then yes I agree to your plan!" She turned back to the man and smiled brightly, moving to take his arm in her own.

[b]"But brother we are finally free, let us have some fun before the sun rises and steals us away. We will need a whole night to begin our journey and this one has already begun!"

To Serve:

Angelito listened to the conversation with a careful ear, waiting for moments when he must answer a question or a request, but also listening for moments when he must advise. When the conversation turned to him being carried as they flew, he frowned slightly. He was not afraid, more worried for the logistics of the whole affair.

"If I may interject Miss, Sir, I believe your idea to be sound but beg one tiny, but potentially embarrassing, caveat. To carry me all that way will leave both you and I functionally unable to defend ourselves Sir. Would it be too much to suggest that we purchase a saddle? I appreciate how embarrassing that may be but... Only we three would know!" He reasoned.

A wisp of smoke drifts in on the wind, and there is the faintest skittering of spider legs as the two ancient vampires approach, and in the back of those present's minds, there comes the barest hint of music, growing stronger as the two vampires coalesce into solid shape.
(The Ruithvein representatives are present) The voice appears in the mind of those present, unsettling, echoing, and ancient.

Jair, home to the boldest cohorts:
Zelic smiles at Kisara's response, and then raises an eyebrow at her as if to comment on the boldness of the suggestion put forth by Angelito.

"Yes, my sister, I think we should manage just fine. Quite a beautiful --and last-- sight we'd be, were any poor soul to see us." He grins, ominously.

"And Angelito: if you're able to find a saddle fit for a bat, in this city, by sundown tomorrow, and without raising suspicion, I'll wear the damnable thing, if only so I needn't take the time to fish you from the Lake if you fall. My sister is very much attached to you, and I'd hate to displease her. But do well to remember, human, I will be anything but defenseless. Fear is my greatest weapon, and I can leverage it regardless which form I choose to take."

We should both be at a 40' fly speed, putting us on par with Overland Flight, which gets you 64 miles in 8 hours. Looking at the map and considering we're immune to fatigue etc., I think we can comfortably make it 10 hours (equivalent to 80 miles) in a night and still have time to find somewhere to hide for the day when we get there. Distances check out too, if we pick the shortest paths to and from the Isle.

History untold:

Thulmerë scratches his neck, mildly rubbing the bite marks on his neck.

"So it's knowledge you seek? you fancy forbidden lore?"

Thulmerë paces the back and forth through the chamber.
"I am no scholar, they may serve you better. However, I've seen many events unfold in my time, the fall of the Serpentfolk and their God, the destruction of my homeland, the rising of Zura and Tar-Baphon. That Fool Aroden his disappearance."

Thulmerë folds his arms behind his back.
"What do you wish to know? Come to my study if you wish to discuses more, there are secrets even the clergy would like to remain hidden. I found a peasant from a village not too far from here, I grow hungry and have little patience to dine with our guess when they arrive."

Thulmerë makes his way out of the chamber, retreating to his chamber.

To further knowledge:
"Forbidden is the most tempting."
Allizsah said as her steps fell in line behind his.

"Are you sure you will not be offended by my questions? Surely you have heard from others that I can ask... odd and some times offensive questions. But it is all for documenting. Has anyone ever told you of the research I do?" She asked as she caught up and now walked along side him.

West wing of Virlych:

"Matriarch Callistra has kept me close by her side, busy chronicling events a bygone age, perhaps there is a pattern considering what has recently happened. History tends to repeat it's self."

Now that Allizsah walks alongside him he turns his head to address her.
"Matriarch Callistra instructed me not to harm you, she sees something in you. There will come a day when her or I properly bring you into the house."

He resumes looking straight as they make their way down the corridor.
"You perform rituals pertaining to vampiric blood, no? Regardless, ask away."

Secrets of my own:
"Might just be the mark Zura herself bestowed upon me when my father's blood burn her vampiric gift out before it could properly take hold." Allizsah said with a smile as her middle finger slowly traced Zura's symbol that was marked upon her upper abdomen.

"Oh Matriarch Callistra is well aware of my work. She knows that I wish to partake of the gift Zura has given the family. But upon my own terms. You see I wish to know which of Zura's gifts would benefit not only myself but the family as a whole." She explained as she turned to look at him. "I've already made several books upon the variation of vampirizum. Though my work is not complete... Thus the rituals pertaining to vampiric blood. So many of my question will be upon your own time as a vampire, how it has effected you, and asking for a small bit of your own blood."

Just a clarification:

Since he has a swim speed of fifty feet, Saban plans to travel under his own power so as to stay as under the radar as possible.

Routing as described by Rosalind:

"We traveled east. The old witch dragging us through the night, killing horses and buying new ones after butchering the corpse to hide our taste. I was daughter, lover, neice, sister, dull witted servant, and once even the distraught displaced woman. She didn't care what my preference might have been, she ordered, and I dare not disobey. Not after Thomas. She tore him to bits and fed him to us. Like we were animals too stupid to know how to eat."

Rosalind shudders, then continues.

"At Profit's Flow, we struck north. She produced fine garmets all in white, and told me we were now Profits of Kalistrade. To sneer and silently weigh the price of each good we saw for sale, and find it wanting. To stay all covered up, even to the eyes. What a trick it was to move thus hidden by her power. I was taken with wonder by it, the witch is a monster, her monstrosity has a beauty all its own, and she will not be balked. We boarded ship and sailed the gulf, not that she'd let me see the sea of course. I was confined, sick she claimed. My grip on the captain grew with each night, again at her direction. He begged for death at my lips. She denied him. When we disembarked, she'd painted the room with his blood, fed me choice bits of it like a dog in a silver dish, and then made me clean the place. She has a sense of humor, I 'died' for the fourth time in that room. Some nameless passenger made to look like me and left to rot. Shelyn have mercy on us all."

She collects herself then starts again.

"The true horror was the rush to this gathering. All of it by carriage, through Ustlav of all places. Two days and nights of Thuvia recounting all the ways in which a careless vampire could die here. All the ways in which a careless vampire might be made to wish for death. Promising them all to me if I disappointed her."

She grins, fully and without a hint of the horror that filled her voice a moment ago.

"So you see, hunter, there's very little you can do to me. Very little that has not already been done. The worst you can do is torture and kill me. Believe me when I say that that seems a childlike dream of candy and flowers. You are no Thuvia, and I? I will not disappoint her. Not for all the forgiveness in creation. I'm afraid our talk is over, hunter. Give my regards to Pharasma. I shan't be seeking her after all."

Didn't expect this to go this way, but I'm ok with it.

In the pursuit of knowledge:

"you may ask your questions, you may have my blood in all due time. I wish to know more of your work."

Thulmerë remains deathly quiet, focusing in on his hunger.

One piece for another:
"I have a grand total of five books on vampirizum. Each written by myself. Though the only completed book is that on the Nosferatu breed of vampire. This was the first I came across and was with him for a time. Till one day I returned from retrieving him a fresh meal only to find some up start paladin putting a steak through his chest. I was able to end the foolish holy warrior with ease, most likely because he had been weakened by the battle before. Though it gave me great opportunity to take apart my fallen master's body. I noted it in great detail as I worked." Pride leaked into her voice as she spoke about her past. "Out side of that I have one book that is a general understanding of all vampires, a compressed version if you will. The three that I've began upon the other kinds of vampirizum. My hope is that with this knowledge I can come to understand Zura's gifts completely, and thus help initiate those who we deem useful and worthy enough to have her gift into the proper type of vampirizum, most befitting us, them, and Zura." She finishes smiling, walking tall and proudly next to Thulmerë.

"Would you like to give me your input upon this?"

Research agreement or test subject?:

"Hmm the Nosferatu, they're a dying breed. How noble of you." A smirk sprang up across his face.

As the two continued walking, stopping at his chamber door.
"I will aid you in your studies, but know this. I am no ordinary vampire. Ever since my journey into the heart of the Serpentfolk's lair when I was a mortal, ever since I fell into the pool of cold black blood, I've been mired by death. Do you feel the auras emanating? it's palpable."

Thulmerë Pushes open the wrought iron door, walking into his chambers. walking over to his desk, beside it stands an iron maiden where a muffled scream can be heard.

Thulmerë waves her in,"Don't mind Sir Baldwin, he's my guest from Vigil. Now come in, we have much to discuss and I won't bite." letting out a light chuckle

"Tell me Allizsah, what do you know about Lady Zura, her ascension into vampirism and vampirism induced by necromancy?"

Why not both? Or more?:
"You're asking a priestess of Lady Zura? One whom she herself has marked?" She smiled as she stepped in, slowly closing the door behind her. She did not heed the muffled screams, as Thulmerë bid her, and made her way over to the desk.

She leaned against the side of it as she began to go into what she knew of Zura. "I know that before she arose as Zura the Succubus vampire queen she was an Azlanti woman. One of their queens if I am correct." She grinned, knowing she in fact was, "She lusted for eternal life so greatly that she began to feel on her own kind and even bathed in their blood. Many even say she is the reason the Azlant empire began to fall." She shrugged at that as she settled to fully sitting upon the desk, one ankle tucked behind the other. One hand rested upon the desk to keep herself from falling completely on it and the other traced her mark as she continued. "When she did die, after taking her own life, her soul traveling to the Abyss and returned to this world as a succubus vampire. Then some time before Earthfall she became a Demon Lord and passed on her gifts of immortality." She finished, grinning wider than she had before.

dinner for one or two?:

Thulmerë wanders over to the iron maiden, removing the bound tortured knight and throwing him onto the desk top.

"Care for a taste or should I leave a little life in him for your rituals or desires? whatever they may be." Thulmerë gazes at Allizsah, but his blood lust turns his attention to the knight.

Thulmerë opens his mouth, forcing out his incisors. They appeared to be more akin to serpents fangs. Plunging his teeth into Baldwin's carotid artery, indulging on his life blood. Leaving just enough to keep him alive. Wiping the rest of the blood off of his face with Baldwin's shirt.

"Ah, that should be enough not spoil my appetite. You're going to be surrounded by other vampire families tonight, if Mistress Drakina is in our home. Stay by Mistress Callistra or myself, I don't trust some of the families." Standing upright, he focuses him attention to Allizsah now.

Thulmerë rubs his itching neck wound."You're correct, I had to ask. When such a figure as herself becomes of legend, facts get mixed in with mythology. She was ever the cunning serpent, after the war she brought our empire to it's peak. The envy of the world, overshadowed by that fool Aroden, years later mind you. My family served her's for generations, as an honour guard. I helped capture dissidents and political enemies, all were sacrificed in her rituals, blood orgies and bath as you know. On the eve of her death, I took my life on her request. I'm not sure what spell she casted on my, but as my life blood was draining, I fell into a deep sleep."

He points to the marks on his neck.
'These marks are not from a vampire's bite, I'm not sure what she did to me. when I was awoken, I knew I was different, invigorated. The first of her spawn." He said proudly.

"I agree to your research, ask what questions you need. I could use a chronicler." smiling revealing his reddened teeth."

How could one turn that down?:
Allizsah smiled when offered a meal. "Oh, how thoughtful. You have my thanks, but you should have your fill first." She answered before she leaned foreword, reaching her left hand out and gently with her middle finger wiped off a bit of blood Thulmerë has missed on his cheek. She brought her hand to her mouth and licked the blood from her finger, smirking slightly. "My body still requires far more... substance then that of ones such as yourself." She explained before she looked down at the knight, turning her head away from Thulmerë, and spoke to him. "Pray to your gods mortal. But they will fall upon deaf ears. You're in our hands now. You should be thankful."

When he pointed out the makes upon his neck, Allizsah leaned in close to look at the marks thoroughly. "Such a blessing." She told him as she leaned back. "Careful, you'll make me jealous." She grinned.

"Very well, I shall get myself a new journal and shall begin whenever you as willing to start." Allizsah said with a grateful nod.

=======

Virlych is situated in the far south-western corner of Ustalav and borders Lastwall for much of its western and southern reaches divided by the Path River. The former counties of Virholt and Grodlych were sacrificed to create the region now known as Virlych. The region, the epicentre of the Whispering Tyrant's burgeoning undead empire simply could not be cleansed of the taint that Tar-Baphon brought upon it.

It is a land of perpetual gloom where mindless undead and other horrors roam free to terrorize those living who dare set foot in these lands. The perfect cover for the Vampire Families of Golarion to place their stronghold, what was the Tyrant's loss became the Vampires gain.

While Renchurch, Ghasterhall, the Palace of Travesties, and the Garden of Lead continue to draw the attention of adventurers, twisted arcanists, and the Watchers of Lastwall, the Tower of Sidisi and the village of Sidstalav though are forgotten by all but the most diligent Sages of the history of Ustalav. Sidisi a half-dragon - half-orc, sought to usurp the powers that rightfully belonged to his Master Tar-Baphon. What he received in return was the gift of death from the Lich Lord and his tower and village were laid to ruin.

Stone though has a way of outlasting those who build it and the Zura Family found Sidstalav and the Tower of Sidisi to their liking and adopted it as their home. The security of the location was something no other Family could match and in time even the Urgathoa and Ruithvein Families had to agree that it was an ideal location for the Council to meet.

Sidstalav is home to numerous walking undead, enough to be a nightmare for all but the most dedicated of platoons or powerful of adventuring parties. Some of the homes are still in sufficient condition for visitors to the Tower to use as lodging by day though some troublesome Bloodsuckers have met their final fate by choosing the wrong location to sleep by day.

Even if such intrepid heroes manage to fight or sneak past the village the Vampires of the Tower would, and has, spelled certain doom for such worthies.

The Tower itself has been cleverly refitted to by functional while looking abandoned. Spells keep its peak in perpetual darkness even in the brightest day, which is overcast at best when compared to the rest of the Inner Sea nations. Its black and grey stonework with marbled inlays make it look ancient and foreboding as one nears it, especially after facing the walking dead of Sidstalav which encircles the Tower.

=======

Kicking the dirt off of the boots, Helt Vhis & Lener Wardwaver step into the courtyard of the Tower of Sidisi. The black roses are in full bloom near the Tower entrance. A Human stands at the front door wearing white gloves and hands a pitcher of warm blood along with a set of wine glasses to the Orc and Half-Orc, "Malkistra I presume?"

Before the Brutes can answer another man
Saban Wright
comes staggering into the courtyard. His weapon and armor are covered in gore as it seems he fought his way through the town. The Human at the front narrows his eyes at the heavily armed and armored human. "For your own sake I hope you were sent here by someone or you will not be leaving here, alive anyway".

Saban:
You ended up having to fight through some Zombies and Ghouls to get here, no one told you that these mindless undead would attack you! You saw a carriage in the distance but whoever was in it did not attempt to aid you in any way.

The sound of a cracking whip emanates from a carriage with several horses. The black painted carriage comes bearing down near Saban. The driver pulls the horses to a stop. Out steps a woman who epitomizes what it means to be a Vampiress, her hair, her clothing her demeanor would all set a Hunter on edge. The woman giggles at you Saban, "Impressive fighting, most impressive, when that ghoul bit your leg I thought you to be a goner for sure! Didn't I Rosalind?!"

Rosalind:
Voracia insisted on watching the man fight through from afar rather than helping as she assumed him to be a servant of some Family. You are quite sure he saw the carriage.

Once more, the flow of conversation is interrupted when of all things a man riding a giant bat and a smaller bat land in the Courtyard, "You see Master Zelic Hook, Mistress Kisara Vulpina, I told you that the saddle would hold..." as he makes a move to dismount the saddle slips around the belly of the bat and the servant falls face first into the cobblestoned courtyard of the Tower.

The Human at the door is at a loss as to who to approach first when a subtle yet ominous melody can be heard in the minds of those present. Following this, wisps of smoke and millions of skittering spiders made their way into the middle of the courtyard, where they coalesce into the noble-looking Moroi Murnau and his black-armored menacing companion. You all then hear within your minds a voice so smooth, so ancient and so sinister it could only belong to the dead, The Ruithvein representatives are present.

Thulmerë walks over to his western wall, parting the thick curtains and removing a wooden slab that concealed a window warded by shadow magic. opening the window, a strong gust of cold air begins to permeate throughout the chamber.

"Thank you, Lady Dravonie." Murnau's voice is silky and smooth, "Do you have any thralls, that we might be able to feed? Beyond that, where and when will the Council require us?"

As more vampires show up Helt will continue to scan them- perhaps a few seconds to long. This will be interesting with this bunch. I wonder who will be the first to perish.

After Lenar's comment Helt will let out a bit of a chuckle and a snort watching the reactions.

"Oh but of course." Allizsah said with a smile. "Why don't I show you where you all can rest as we await the meeting hmm? I can even fetch refreshments there."

Shadow's Status

Prologue - Virlych - the Seat of Power of the Eternal Council

The Living Thrall replies to Thulmerë, "A thousand pardons ancient one but Master Fennamir Urgathoa himself bid me to keep all arriving delagates outside of the Council Chamber until called upon by he and the Mistresses Callistra and Drakina...of course if you believe that Master Fennamir was mistaken I would be glad for you to take it up with him directly.

I can however, summon refreshments while the guests wait".

Before he turns to leave he addresses Lener, Rosalind, and Saban addressing each in turn, "Yes the lack of pretension usually signals Malkistra.

I shall send a stablehand for the horses right away!

A thousand pardons..." He seems at a loss as to what to call you as he does not recognize you. "Sir. But the mindless undead of Sidstalav have been painstakingly to slay anything that is not undead. It seems too much life still exists within you to be safe from their predatory nature".

He hovers for a minute before heading in awaiting responses or perhaps backlash.

Thulmere:
Master Fennamir Urgathoa is not one to cross, he is about as old as you and this is his first century leading his house. You had a good relationship with him over the Millenia until he became the head of Urgathoa...
