"Excellent deduction Kemnebi, I agree, we would play right into their plans."

Kemnebi smiles back at June. "Yes, Aahz did say that, didn't he? Perhaps we should ask them to go and hug the snake-men? That would solve several problems quite nicely, actually." He responds with a wistful smirk.

Astinos wrote:
"Excellent deduction Kemnebi, I agree, we would play right into their plans."

"Exactly." Kemnebi replies a little more soberly, although a small smile still plays on his features. "And under the circumstances, I am loathe to do their job for them. I think though that, despite our,... frequent personality conflicts, we are an impressive and varied force. And we were selected for this, through a variety of means. I am certain that we have the ability to perform the rescue." He looks thoughtful for a moment.

"There is one advantage we have, they don't know that we won't call for assistance. Let's face it, most beings would! If they are keeping a force occupied standing by, ready to try and seize the flaming chariot, then that is that many less opponents we have to face!" He adds grimly but optimistically.

Well said; and their best are probably at the top near the surface and we will be at the bottom; if we do it quick enough; we can scoot before they bring their greatest strength to bear.

Male Dwarf Cleric 6 (Earth and Protection Domain)

I smile broadly at the banter from the group, before chipping in with my own piece of wisdom.

"Bah, I'm a dwarf. Ye dinnay always need the Sun ter achieve what yer after. The right tools applied at the right moments with a good dose o' dwarven muscle behind it can achieve nigh on anything. I believe we have a bit o' everything with us that satisfies that sayin'"

I continue to trudge forwards, following the new rogue and our gruff dwarven fighter. While not the front of the collumn, I want to be close enough to offer support when the time comes.

Silver Fox and Durr fall in just ahead of Kemnebi.

Male Efreeti, advanced manthing 45HD

Who is leading the way and what is the marching order?

Male Dwarf Cleric 6 (Earth and Protection Domain)

ooc - My understanding was that Caerwyn and Kosan were leading out. The fighter to do what fighters do and the rogue to lead us through the obvious dangers of the rogue stronghold and this city.

I was contemplating being third in line, to provide support for the two in the lead and an extra heavily armoured buffer for the softer targets.

I believe Kemnebi, Fox and Neb are next, followed by Astinos, the two girls and Ahaz.

That gives us a spread of fighters and healers at both front and back of the group, with the mages being safely ensconced in the centre, with Fox's bodyguard with them as well.

As far as I can tell, that was the plan that Kosan put forward. If everyones ok with that, are we ready to roll?

Male Human (Celt) Rogue 6

Sounds like a good plan, I'm ready to go.

Male Efreeti, advanced manthing 45HD

hehe; do you really want to risk having nothing but npc's in the rear? well; maybe Kalona will ride along with Aahz so you dont get taken; always better to have a pc to make choices you know.

also; the two skeletons stay with the two cats.

<narrative>
Mr Dom leads the party down several twisting tunnels and through several door; dissarming the traps as he goes; warning of them resetting after a given time period.

The tunnels he leads through end up in a long dark hall that goes goes two ways; this tunnel is old, dark; ancient cobwebs and the scent of long death pervades; this is the end of Mr. Doms knowledge of the guild holding which you now have left not seeing a soul.

Following some guild sign marking on the wall.
Dom turns left leading the clinking and clanking party; who is circumspectly quiet for once; each lost in thier own thoughts with an occassional quip from Kalona as she swoops to eat an interesting bug or spider and collects a few shiny bits from here and their that perhaps sparkled in the dust.

Yes; dust; the dust of age old death and bones; the flakes of long dried flesh and rags that cause the eyes to waters and the nose to run; an occassional sneeze now and again as you walk down the long hallway passing every 100 ft <7 times> a mosaic <picture of Hades symbol I sent out earlier> and funnerary rites carved on the walls; that of glory and infamy both; lose and gain all for naught ending in the dusty procession of the dead.

Thus you come to a Door; mystic and ancient; warded and heavy, barred and bound; the door is white and fairly glows in the darkness even before you reach it; a single solitary spot of white that finnaly materialized into a door as you approach; the light you carry with you seeminly at war with the oppressive gloom.

<Dom you know this enters the Crypts proper; but know not how to safely open the door>

Finnally, Mr Dom stops before an age old door; warded with magic and mystic symbols

Kemnebi

Spoiler:

You strongly believe that this door can only be opened by clergy of Hades or suffer the dieties wrath, but usually these type things are specific; perhaps it is not so well warded against the dead; perhaps a non thinking dead might be able to slip past the wards discernment and open the door - one you figure out how; its probably one of those hidden door latch things...

Astinos:

Spoiler:

You know Hades to be a very very powerful diety; and very petty and self serving; often evil in his unforgiving pursuit of what he considers his domain; but if your information about the nakes and what are correct; the the crypts are being desicrated <just the thought of heroes and great statesmens tombs being desicrated by those scaley servents of Evil and Chaos makes your hackles stand up in rightous fury>

surey you must be in Hades Favor; Is not Athena his neice? should not a servant of a master help the masters kin if their house is on fire; is not Hades under attack? Surely a Prayer of admittance of desire to pursue this enemy into the sacred realm of heroes would be accepted by Hades; but then; he is a distant diety and cold in his wrath to intruders.

The door itself probably has a hidden latch; probably at the right side with bolts in the top and bottom turned by some figure on the door.

Dom; do not touch that door!

My Lord; that door seeks to eat his soul with powerful negative energy; only one warded should proceed; ah; now I see why the Wize Baelinor had chosen a cleric of this pantheon to attend.

I have seen something like this before; fall to that door and you will serve the door as a guardian for evermore. Beware my comrades!

Kalona

Spoiler:

with your special vision; you also can see the tendril like fingers of death full of negative energy reaching from the door as Dom gets closer to search for traps and a opening device.

Dom

Spoiler:

so far you have not touched the door; but you do see a couple figures on the door that seem odd; like the priest figure says a prayer; looks like some scratches are there like his hands move; then you probably lower the dead wrapped figure into the coffin and slide the door closed; looks like some small scratches there as well; other scratches on the door seem less used and weathered; they are probably traps; your fairly certain this has been used quite a bit and is probably the trick to open the door; how to get around touching it; looks like turning, poking and sliding is needed; hard to do without touching the door even with special tools; you admire the craftsmenship...

Hmm...I would suggest a defence against evil spell be cast upon the one who approaches that door. Also, based upon the design of the door there is probably a hidden latch somewhere on the right side of it. Do you see a figure of some sort to turn the bolts?"

I pause thoghtfully then slowly approach the door and go down to one knee, head bowed and fist to the ground.

"Lord Hades, mighty and powerful ruler of that which lies beyond life, I come before you as a servant of your kin Athena. Long have I served her and your pantheon as both warrior and defender. It is in this capacity that I come before you requesting that you allow me and my allies to enter your sacred realm, to strike at those that would deign to defile that which is of the Dodekatheon.

The skelton, under Kalona's relayed intructions, is able to get the door unlocked. Erkholt and Namaste watch down the hall of the area your currently in; The dwarf and paladin pour through first going to either side, with grace the drow moves between then looking for enemies; the two catpeople and their skeletons move across the doorway as well, then Aahz and Kalona and the two girls.

Namaste: "I was warned, due to my contact with darkness, I cannot enter here; I can feel it; I will join you later if possible; will try to hold this passage for your escape; go; go and save us all.

Erkholt: "I'll not let yea stand alone; will hold here with you; just enterin the crypts of Hades would defile me sanctity; go with Moradin's blessing"

Erkholt grimly pulls the door closed and it locks; their appears to be no handles on this side.

You feel the somber mood and the heavyness in the air of the weight of thousands of entombed souls, a foul energy pervades this place as well and restless dead.

Three halls present themselves; the marker on the floor depicts the hand of Hades over all; but that you are in the area of White; thus those souls of the heroes of Zeus.

Crypts of Hades are jealously guarded by his priests; with traps both magical and mundane; paths safe and paths treacherous and misleading; which way will you travel.

from what you can tell of the map given you by the Guild; it seems fairly accurate.

Spoiler:
If you have a problem with my decision you could have said it. I think it is a major slap in the face to put your NPC's and Kaluna in the front. Also to take away Caerwyns duties as scout. Not to mention the remark from Aahz stating that kaluna or Iunious should be the leader instead of Llevonic who has no experience or wisdom. Yet a flighty ex-evil demon who was imprisoned for eons and acts like a slighted 12 year old does. I picked him, It was between him and Nebbit, because he currently has no ties with any of your NPC's and thereby is not swayed by your intent rather by a players intent. Which is as the game should be. Please answer back quickly so I can decide what I need to do.

Kosan

Spoiler:

not at all; you left them out completely so I just inserted them according to their characters bio in places that would appeal to them. Their all pretty rogish with no armor; Aahz of course wants to see everything; Iunius wants everyone to look at her and advise the group's rogue; Kalona <who you guys have been slapping in the face leaving out the entire game> is just riding along with Aahz, but as she is tiny and dark; hardly noticable and can of course relocate whereever she wishes; Decidio of course, would rather stay next to Astinos to advise the heavy warriors; so really it is just an expansion of what you did; with the quiet people up front and the heavy/noisy peeps in the back The rogue can check for traps; Iunius has superior eyesight; Aahz is small and fearless; Kalona has bunch of animal senses and can see magic; so; dont see a problem. You have a Pc leading in the front; pc leading the heavies; pc in the rear which gives the pc's dominance over all actions and hopefully will generate a little side play with Kenembi having Iunius in the front where danger is likely the greatest.

As for what Aahz says; well, he is eight years old in appearance; really only about 3 weeks old; of course he is gonna like pretty girls and want his "friends" leading; any one of the party could have cozied up to him; talked to him or anything; but only Kenembi and Kalona have really talked to him at all.

If you feel so strongly about it; just start including them in your lineup rather than ignoring them and making me insert them somewhere. After all; they are all here in the group for specific reasons. I play my npc's true to their characters as I have written them up; not by any arbitrary thoughts or for any personal reasons; they do what I think a person with their talents and backgrounds and goals would do. If you want any more specific details; send me an email; I dont want to give away any of the npc's goals or motives or background until it is proper to do so.
